Lying shipper--do not buy this product
I cannot review the product (originally listed for $1,000.00 dollars more), because Crates Direct pulled a switcheroo and sent an inferior, cheaper model whose true price IS $1,199.99 and not the $2,999.99 they charged me but refuse to alter. If you order this one, don't expect to get it.

What a view!
This TV is the best we ever purchased. Of course going from a 19 inch model to the 32 inch is a change, the clarity of televsion, video and DVD's is incredible. We read many reviews of Sony WEGA from many sources. Though we spent some bucks, it was well worth it!

Too much of a good thing?
This set is surprisingly good in the following ways:
After owning this set for four months, I am astonished at how BAD other televisions look. When my friend bought a 32 inch WEGA (non XBR) and had us over to take a look, I was appalled by the overdriven picture, extensive red push and large gap between scan lines. It was like watching television through a set of venetian blinds. The same with another friend's Toshiba flat tube set. Further, if you're a gadget-type person. you'll appreciate the fantastically in-depth service menu. Every conceivable internal setting of the television can be accessed through the remote. We have dropped the red push altogether and the picture is considerably more pleasing than when the set was new. Finally, the resolution of the picture tube is so much better than standard televisions that flaws, edits, and manipulations in NTSC sources can easily be detected with the naked eye. This could be a turn-off for some casual owners; other television sets are too blurry and inaccurate to reveal the flaws in a broadcast. Not the XBR! With this set, the difference between high quality and inferior broadcasts is as plain as day. To sum up, this television is superior in every way. In fact, its superiority makes some common NTSC programming look pretty bad. Some owners won't like it, preferring to hide the flaws in the signal by watching through an inferior set.

I Love My TV
I bought this TV last year and I love it. I have an elliptical satellite dish and a Toshiba HDTV receiver. The picture quality is what sold me on this model, whether you are watching the news or a DVD on a progressive scan player (with component video cables) Sony gives you the option of four different screen modes, from vivid to 'pro'...that is all picture adjustments in the default position. The control over every aspect of the picture is daunting at first but in no time you'll have the four picture modes perfectly tailored to your tastes. The "split screen" is very cool, you can watch a DVD and monitor a program, minimize or maximize the two screens and have the sound from whichever source you want Even the built in speaker system is sufficient for my taste, to me the picture quality is of utmost importance. I could go on and on raving about this TV. I only have one regret, the price keeps going down! j.nomograms

The best 32" TV you can buy
We've had our 32" XBR450 for about three months, and the whole family loves it. Coupled with a progressive scan DVD player (we have the Sony DVP-NS700P, also a great product), the picture is nothing short of amazing. Even VHS tapes look better with this TV, thanks to the line-doubling up-conversion process the signal goes through. The sound quality is also excellent--even has treble/bass adjustments--and has surprising bass output for a TV set. The picture-and-picture feature (scalable side-by-side twin views) is really cool; however, be aware that you won't be able to view two channels at once if you get satellite service. (You can still view different sources simultaneously, though.) The unit also has plenty of inputs, including two component video inputs (for high-definition sources) so you can hook up a DVD player as well as an HDTV receiver. While the price is high, for the quality, features and flexibility, you can't beat this Sony for 32" models. I would recommend this TV to anyone who can afford it.

Good stuff - look on eBay for great deals ... except shipping on 90# may be something for FedEx Ground ....

After 5 years, still works GREAT!
I guess it is the luck of the draw; after 5 years, it still works GREAT! Yes it is heavy as hell, and I've stayed in apartments longer than I wanted to because of it, but the HD picture is four star (being 720P).
Luckly, I had to need to service it to date.

I GUESS I'M ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES
I purchased this TV in August of 2002 and as of this day I have not had a problem with it. What is fustrating is when I moved and DirectTV sent one of their "contractors" out to install the TIVO DVR, they did not understand that the TV had a buitl in reciever. I had to explain this to two different techs. I am now looking for a newer modle with a built in reciever, but can't seem to find one with a slot for a DirecTV card. If anyone can help, drop me an email it would be appreciated.

no sound
A relative who owned this for a year using surround sound just gave me this unit. Unfortunately I can't get the sound to work. I am hoping someone will see this review and offer some suggestions or might be able to donate an owners manual to us. I can be contacted at racindave99@yahoo.com. Thanks

BEWARE!.......Read this 1st!
In keeping with the "whole philosophy" of consumer reviews, when I saw these for sale on Amazon I felt obligated to post a review of this product. To make a "long story short", DON'T BUY THIS TV UNLESS YOUR IN THE SALAVAGE BUSINESS.
I purchased one of these approx. 7 years ago for over $2,000........picture quality was OK but not as good as the new generation flat screens. Looking back, I would of had to have been "nuts" to buy a TV with a "built-in" DirectTV box. Not only was I then "locked in" to DirectTV, but the internal box promptly became obsolete!
Owners of these TV's have no options, plus, were forced to upgrade at their own expense by DirectTV to an new external box in order to continue receiving HD content! The set has no HD suitable HDMI, etc. jacks to run an add-on box through the "auxiliary inputs" and even with a new H-20 DVR, picture quality is worse than it was originally. There are 2 fairly loud fans inside the TV that run 24/7! "I literally tore/ripped the skin right off the palm of my hands trying to carry IT, IT weighs 250 lbs.!"
Then........IT broke! Even though the TV was rarely used, maybe once a week, suddenly about a month ago (1/10) IT stopped working; IT won't "power-up"!. The first repair shop I had IT at charged me $65 only to inform me that repair parts are largely unavailable, and if the suspected culprit part could be found it was likely to cost in the neighborhood of $500-$600. Oh, and also, they report that RCA has "gone away" so forget about any support, etc. I've taken the TV(IT) to a second repair shop just this afternoon, supposedly a RCA authorized repair center. RCA has a web-site w/links for service. This seems weird since years ago RCA became Thompson Electronics, and now is some other company.
Anyway, as a past loyal RCA customer I was completely disappointed by the concept/design, technology, and reliability of this TV. I'm also amazed by RCA, the company. (What's up w/that?)
Hope you've benefited by this "heads-up"!

Boo
After a few months of having the TV we noticed dark gray spots when it was a dark part. Luckily it was still under warrenty and Zenith came out and fixed it right away. Then just recently we got a blue spot in the bottom corner that grew across the bottom. We're still able to watch tv (for now) but not for long it sounds like. We got online and looked up the issue only to find out this is almost a guarenteed problem with this model of Zenith and cost more to fix than buying a new TV. We seem to be lucky having it last ALMOST 4 years, some people's didn't even last 2.

I was ripped off too.
I purchased the 44" version of this TV back in June 04. Within 6 months the dreaded blue line appeared at the bottom. An LG rep on another forum confirmed that excessive heat causes the plastic lens mounts to warp after awhile.(He has since deleted all his posts) I can't post a URL but do a search on E44W46LCD + TriodeGuy and you will find my posts on the other forum. There is a fix for the blue line problem that doesn't require light engine replacement. Please see my posts for details. There is also mention from another poster of a class action lawsuit in Jersey.

Blue Haze - In the shop also, for 2 MONTHS
After calling LG/Zenith I got the 'we're not responsible but we'll fix your set for free' certified letter. The local repair company began installing the new light engine in my living room but found after complete disassembly that the new engine was not correct and would not work. He loaded up my set and took it to get another engine, he claims to be on the 4th light engine from LG since each one is either wrong for the set or won't work upon installation. I hope they take care of this no matter if the problem is their parts or their choice of repairman or I'll be the one starting the class action!

T.V is currently in the shop and LG is covering the cost
6 months ago my T.V. started to show the blue haze. At first, I thought it was the satelite signal. How does a $3000 t.v that is 2 years old have problems so quickly. My family grew up on Zeniths; 2 Zenith's in a 25 year span. So I started to do some research on the Internet and learned about the famous LG/Zenith blue haze. I knew the one year warranty had expired, but I thought I would call LG to get their opinion. As soon as I told the customer service rep the model of my T.V., I heard this pause (as she was expecting me to complain about the Blue Haze) which I did. Immediately she told me that I had to speak with someone else in another department. It seem like they established a new unit just for these type of phone calls. To my surprise, the rep told me that they would cover all parts and labor. A week later, I received a letter from LG explaining that they want to cover all expenses to repair my T.V. and there was language in the letter that stated a disclaimer that LG electronic is not at fault for the the problems that have occured. I signed the letter, sented it back to them and they had a video service in my area come pick up the t.v for repair. I should have the set back by next week.

Great TV
I am thrilled with this TV. I have a small apartment and the screen size is just right. Even the non HD picture is fantastic which is important because there are not that many HD broadcasts yet. My only complaint is that the sound is somewhat muffled on HD broadcasts. I plan on purchasing a separate amp, etc. I have purchased a Panasonic HDMI dvd player and dvd's are fantastic. I also have the cable company's HD DVR service. Once I get the sound system it should be perfect.

Great Picture, Great Bargain!
I have had my set for about 2 weeks now, and I am blown away by it's contrast and resolution.
This is my second set...the first set arrived and when I plugged it in, all I received was a blinking power light---turns out it has something to do with the power supply---according to Panansonic.
I use Radio Shack 'rabbit' ears for my reception and receive all four of the major networks and OPB in HD---Monday Night Football in HD is amazing! With the 'rabbit ears' I also receive all four major networks in SD---but why go back?
DVD's seem to look better on the Plasma than on my last Mitsubishi tube set---even thugh there is only 480 lines of resolution. I haven't tried the HDMI input yet, but others seem to be impressed by it.
I am using component video for my DVD and run the sound through Yamaha Audio/Video controller, Adcom amplifiers, and Polk Audio speakers.
The only bummer is that when the speakers on the Plasma are turned off, you can't adjust the 'volume level' using the Plasma remote---you just get a message saying 'speakers off'---you should be able to turn off the speakers and then have the audio out from your Plasma become a 'line out' so to speak---so you can control the audio levels of your surround system, when watching TV by using the volume on the Plasma remote control---why should I have to 'select' receiver and then adjust the volume?---heck that was available on my first Mitsubishi set 16 years ago.
Anway, minor complaint....all in all a fantastic set, that I would recommend to anyone---and a great bargain too!

Great TV
Bought this TV about 3 months ago and love it. Super HD quality. No problems with setup. Image and sound are great, nice and crisp in both regards. Photos from SD camera cards are easily viewable. Overall very happy with the purchase.

Two years later and still going strong.
I realize this particular model is not anymore available, I only post this to illustrate the staying power of the Panasonic design which was lambasted 2 years ago as having a very short projected lifespan. Actually, this model was rated at 60,000 hours, so I wont need to replace it anytime soon.
The newer 8UK HD Panasonics are a drastic improvement over this model with higher contrast levels, deeper blacks, and richer colors. But you may end up paying for all the inputs you need. They were all standard features on this old model with the exception of DVI.

Underwhelmed
Plasma buyers beware. Before you plunk down the BIG bucks for a plasma TV, look for other ways to spend $ around your house or take a vacation instead. Plasma TVs are underwhelming when all is said and done. Wide-screen programming is virtually non-existent, and resolutions are awful when you try to watch converted analog signals or stretched screens, also very dissapointing to view the dead-zone sidebars when you can't fill the screen. I spent 4Gs on this Panasonic and two months later the entire image skewed off the frame, needed a technician to reprogramme the bios (on site), ughhh, after hours of wasted support calls to both Panasonic and to my cable TV provider (both apparently ignorant about the issue). Wide screen TVs look best in the store.

Questions & Answers
Question : Can I use a 1080p lcd hdtv as a pc monitor picture-quality wise?
I know that I can plug it in. But what about using say a 40" 1080p lcd hdtv as a montitor? Would it look as crisp as the 24" viewsonic I have now? Should I stick with lcd's that are MADE to be pc monitors? Thanks!
Answer:
I use my 52" Sony Bravia LCD HDTV as a computer monitor. It's connected to my computer using a DVI-to-HDMI cable, displaying 1080p HIgh Definition (1920x1080 resolution). And it looks fabulous. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f347/armchairaviator/computer/IMG_0880c.jpgThe text is razor-sharp, the graphics clear and vivid. I can't be happier with the result.A lot depends on the quality of the TV set. An upper-end set like a Sony Bravia or Sharp Aquos will look nice. Lower-end sets might not look as nice.Hope this helps.

Question : Is there any way to get rid of LCD HDTV input delay for video games?
Hello!I have an LCD HDTV. When I play video games on it, there is a very small (maybe 0.33-0.5 second) delay between inputting commands and seeing a reaction from those commands onscreen. This is not too much of a problem for some games, but on more time-sensitive games, this can create a large disadvantage. Can I get rid of that delay? If so, how?
Answer:
No.

Question : What does hdmi cable do for a 32 inch lcd hdtv?
I just got a new panasonice lcd hdtv 32 inches 720p. What would the benifits of getting an hdmi cable be for watching dvds and cable
Answer:
HDMI delivers uncompressed digital video and audio to the TV from another device. Since the audio and video will be kept digital the whole way, this should produce the best picture the device (cable box, DVD player, etc.) is capable of making.Remember, even though the connection is HDMI, if the video is not HD to begin with and the device is not HD, you still won't get HD. Everything has to be HD from start to finish if you want an HD picture.

Question : Should I wait to buy a nice an LCD HDTV or go big now?
Basically I've done hours of research on different types of LCD's. I have came done to instead of spending the extra money not just buy a cheap 32in LCD HDTV on black friday then in two years sell that and buy a nice 37in.Do you think it would be worth the wait?
Answer:
nope been there done that, once you have your tv your going to regret going to small! and like they say go big or go home!

Question : How high should sharpness level be set on lcd hdtv?
We just had our LCD HDTV installed yesterday. It's a Samsung 40 inch. The HD channels look great. The non HD channels look good too but are a little blurry when up close to the TV. Will increasing the sharpness level make the picture more clear or is it the opposite? It was set up at 25% I increased it to 50% and I can't really tell if it's better or worse. Thanks
Answer:
It all depends on how noisy the signal is. If you have a really clean signal, you can run the sharpness up quite a bit before you'll see negative effects like edge ringing and graininess.I'm getting my digital signal over-the-air (antenna) and the signal is so clean that I can max out the sharpness and it still looks great. I generally leave it at about 75%. I'm viewing the shows on an older non-HD CRT. The situation might well be different on an HD set.

Question : What do you think of the brand LG when it comes to lcd hdtv's?
Im looking to purchaseing a 26" LCD HDTV, but i really dont know what brand to purchase. I looked at a LG and noticed the picture quality looked pretty good. It had good color, but dont know if its a good brand over all.
Answer:
the sd picture on your 26" will look good, maybe a little foggy. Use the S-video input for the best results. I would avoid the HD programming option on a set that small because the HD resolution doesn't really shine until a 40" screen but that's with my eyes your results may vary

Question : If you crack the screen of an LCD HDTV can you replace it?
My LCD HDTV 37" just fell off its wall mounts and has a cracked screen. It still powers on okay and when on still displays a part picture (except where the massive crack is) so everything is working okay with it.So basically Im wondering if it possible to replace just the screen? No, I dont have home contents to claim on and Im in the UK.An idea of cost of a replacemet, if possible, would be great thanks.
Answer:
it will cost more than the actual value of the TV, even at trade prices. Cant really give an approximate cost without knowing the model. Only suggestion is to find an identical model for sale on ebay that is being sold as faulty for a cheap price and use it for the screen, or just put your set for sale (you might get £60 - £100 for it). LCD's are not the best, the screen is very week, scratches easily, and even cleaning it with the wrong product can damage the screen.

Question : What is the easiest way to go HD on new Sony LCD HDTV?
We just purchased a Sony 40" HDTV LCD 1080p. We have a pioneer DVD surrond system and a phillips DVR. What is the easiest way to have this system setup in HD and what do I need to get this done. I am not sure if my DVR is HD but we just got it about 2yrs ago from Directv brand new. Thanks!
Answer:
Try to connect your DVD to your TV using HDMI cables, and make sure your Pioneer DVD have HDMI output, and about your DVR i think you can't go HD with it.
