Why go to the movies?

The Facts:

I bought my unit from 6save through Amazon for about $690 with Free Shipping. The set arrived well packaged and was very simple to set up. The stand uses a few phillips screws and that's it.

I use my tv only with my Playstation 3 for a few games and my Blu-Ray titles and my large DVD collection. I don't watch TV in high def or standard def, there just is never anything on to bother, so I cannot comment on watching a TV signal.

I purchased a way overpriced HDMI cable as I forgot to get one off Amazon when I ordered the TV. I advise you to get a cheapie for the $2 or $3 Amazon has them for. My cousin has a cheap one and i see no advantage to my $35 robbery cable from Wal-Mart.

The Review:

For watching movies in your bedroom get this television. Don't bother going to the movies. There are no crunching popcorn eaters, no crying babies or people on their cell phones. This TV gets the job done.

For under $700 in the current market, I don't see how you can find anything better than this Panasonic. I shopped for a long time before settling on this 720p model. My cousin has the same set in 1080p and has been very happy with the Panasonic brand also, but I simply cannot find the difference between the two unless you are an idiot and sit 2 feet away from the screen. For this size TV save the money and go 720p, bragging rights are for suckers. The 42" size is perfect for my bedroom. I have a large window that gets a a lot of sunlight during the day, and this TV does a good job of maintaing a lustrous picture in my bright room. At night, the quality is really stunning. The black performance is excellent for sure. Audio is decent, but you'd want a surround sound setup anyway. The TV is nicely styled and the remote control is very good with large chunky buttons.

The clarity and depth of the image on this television are top notch. I watched The Dark Knight, Casino Royale, Wall * E and Transformers all on Blu-Ray to see how well the TV performed and I have nothing but satisfaction for my purchase. The Playstation 3 games never looked so good.

You can imagine going from a 10 year-old 28" Sanyo CRT, this is quite an upgrade. However, as is the characteristic with most CRTs, the color was much better on the old Sanyo compared to this, but i haven't seen any of these flat panels, LCD or Plasma that have the saturation of my old set. Ask graphic designers if they prefer the color on an LCD or CRT display for their computer, they'll almost always say CRT is better.

Some people have complained about the quality of the Noise Reduction, and I do see to a degree what they are talking about, but again how close to the TV are you sitting? And how perfect can something get? Some of what you see as "noise" really is just the actual image texture. Besides most of these flat TVs i see with noise reduction on have always made the picture look plasticky, I just leave it off all the time. No problem here.

To sum this up, the image has a deeper, richer quality than most of the LCDs I looked at and factoring in the price difference to other sets out there, I simply have to give a high recommendation for this plasma TV. If you are looking at something in the 37"-42" size and you can find one for a good price like I did, buy this TV.

Plenty of Set, for US

Ours was an early Christmas present. It was simple to un-box and set up.
Even after connecting it to our Stereo, Digital Cable, VHS player and a DVD/CD changer, we have inputs to spare.

The front panel input for Picture Chips got a workout when we hosted a Family Christmas.

We are "empty nesters", our sons and their wives made it here for the Holiday. They were delighted to share their pictures on a 42 inch screen.
Next Time; they'll bring along their Game Systems.

I doubt that WE will outgrown this set.

The best 42 inch TV overall, skip LCDs

This TV provides a great value for what your pay. I bought it on amazon for 700, and not only was it the cheapest option I could find, it has plenty of pros that put it over almost every TV.

I was pro LCD for a time (thought it was the way of the future). After looking, reading reviews, I honestly can't find a single reason to choose another TV. LCDs have a longer life span, usually weight a bit less, and possibly better color. Plasmas have a better speed (480 hz), darker black level, better contrast, better viewing angle, and better pricing. Therefore, plasmas have an overall edge in picture quality (especially if you go dollar for dollar on pricing).

I was worried about the heat a plasma may generate. My 26" LCD Olevia raises the room temperature a couple of degrees, my plasma doesn't. Big plus. Screen doesn't feel hot either. CEVA delivery was excellent, they take all the worry about you screwing up moving and installing the TV. Extremely timely deliver too.

Oh, 720p vs 1080p has been documented on the web to not matter in TVs below 50", just google it.

It was going to buy either this TV, the samsung 46" A750 Samsung LN46A750 46-Inch 1080p DLNA LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color, or sony 46" XBR6 Sony Bravia XBR KDL-46XBR6 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV. Save like 800 dollars and actually have money to afford cable HDTV or a blu-ray player with movies.

Great Plasma TV for the Money!

I purchased this TV during Black Friday. So far I have been extremely pleased with it. "Burn In" is really not an issue with newer plasmas, rather Image Retention or IR is what people need to be concerned with and even that not a terrible concern as IR normally go away fairly quickly. I have personally not had any problems with IR. I did turn down the brightness level below 50 for the first appx. 100 hrs to "break-in" the tv. I don't know if it is necessary to be honest, but I decided to caution on the safe side just in case.

Pros:
+Great value
+Great picture
+Viera Link (I can turn up the volume on my Denon receiver witht he tv remote and also when I turn off the tv power it also turns off the receiver)
+Convenient HDMI input in front of tv under flip-down panel

Cons:
-Not many "frills" such as PIP, etc
-Plasmas use more energy than LCDs

Neutral (could be negative for some or might not matter
*720p - While compairing the 1080p equivalent of this tv at the store I could not tell a difference while standing 6 or more feet away. If are sitting closer than 6 you may notice the "screen door" effect and it gets worse the closer you get. If you will be sitting close to this tv, for example - maybe playing video games, you may want to consider paying a few hundred dollars more for the 1080p model.
*Number of HDMI inputs - Just note that there are only 2 inputs on the back. The 3rd is in the front. I run everything through my receiver first and run only 1 HDMI to the tv so its not a problem for me.

I'm sold- I'll take a Panasonic Plasma over any LCD

I currently own a 42" LCD, but was looking to pick up a plasma for a relative. I had never owned a plasma before, so I was a little apprehensive about the so-called burn-in issues, and increased power usage.

I was debating between this Panasonic plasma, and a rival Samsung PNA450 set. Ultimately, after reading through hundreds of posts at AVSForum, decided that the Samsung only offered a swivel stand as the price premium over the Panasonic. Most users seemed to prefer the Panasonic for color reproduction, as well as reliability. Of course, don't take my word for it- I encourage you to view both TVs in-store at your local Best Buy or Fry's or HHGregg. I had a chance to view both TVs side by side at Best Buy, and I felt the colors were both brighter and more accurate on the Panasonic.

Out of the box, even with the settings turned down for the first 100 hours of break-in, the picture is incredible. The colors are bright, accurate, and the blacks are blacker than even the best LCDs, IMO. And this is all on a budget plasma. I haven't noticed any burn-in so far, so hopefully there won't be any issues on that front.

Power consumption-wise, the peak power usage is above 300 watts, but that's only if you're running at full brightness, in vivid mode, with a white screen flashing all day. With optimal settings, this tv consumes about the same amount of power as your typical LCD.

I'm definitely going to be looking at Panasonic plasmas for my next television.

Best Purchase of 2008

I ordered this TV on the X-mas sale for $1319 including S550 Blu-Ray player. I got my TV in good shape and timely-manner. I was little worried about Ceva carrier but they called me to setup the schedule and time. Ceva guy opened the package and made sure that TV Stands and other including accessories are in there. He put the TV on the Stand and turn on the TV. Boom.. HD picture Quality is un-real. My wife was liking Sumit are we watching 3D or what.

The picture Quality get worse from the Angle. Hey I don't watch TV from Angle my wife does :-)

This set is a perfect compliment to a bedroom.

Recently acquired this amazing lcd set for my bedroom. The XBR line is one of the finest Sony has to offer and I couldn't wait to get my hands on this beauty when a saw it on sale during this past holiday season. Let me tell you, it's more than I expected from a television set and it is the perfect accent to a bedroom or even a living room for that matter. Not just this tv but the whole XBR line has so much to offer as far as lcd's go.

If you're a movie lover, you will WANT to get your hands on a blu ray player. If you're a gamer, like me, this tv will make you drool incessantly. You won't be disappointed!

White Glove Delivery Service is a Joke!

The Sony HDTV lives up to its billing in every way; however, Amazon is advertising "White Glove Delivery Service" for 40" and larger TVs. All that happened when the CEVA delivery team arrived, which was within the window adverised, was that one person asked where I wanted the television. He then set the box down on the carpet, ripped it open and asked me to provide him a screwdriver to attach the base to the set. When questioned as to why he didn't have one, he said it was in the truck (located 20' from the door). He plugged in the power cord and said, "See, it has power. Sign the delivery receipt here." I found a pen, signed the form and asked where the checklist was that Amazon stated would be provided to guide me through ensuring the television was in working order. He stated he knew nothing about a checklist and left. They also said they didn't remove packing material. It was only after I removed the shipping box did I discover that the bottom of the box was extremely dirty and and left dark marks on the off-white carpeting wherever it touched. The carpet had to be cleaned to remove the smudges left by the box.

Amazon should carefully re-evaluate customer (lack of) satisfaction with their choice of carriers. If there is no improvement in "White Glove" delivery, Amazon should expect CEVA to have a negative impact on customers reordering this type of merchandise from Amazon.

Great TV poor service by Amazon

I ordered this from Amazon and it was to be delivered on the 31 Dec. When it did not arrive, I called Amazon on the 2d of Jan as the web tracking was last updated 23 Dec and showed it in Sacramento. The gave me a phone number to call the shipper. Four calls later I finally located the TV at the shipper and had the option of waiting another 6 days for them to deliver or go get it myself. It was a 20 mile trip each way. The bottom of the box was open and after a quick (too quick) inspection the shipper retaped the bottom of the box and I brought it home. When opened the manual, batteries, and screws to attach the base were missing. I called Amazon and they said their TV department would contact me. They did and told me I should call Sony to find out if they would supply the missing parts. I said they should call Sony or send me a new TV. They sent a new e-mail saying they had called Sony and if I called Sony, Sony would send the parts. I did call Sony and after 1.5 hours on the phone, I got the parts ordered. Oh, and the said it will only take 7 to 10 business days to get the missing parts to me. I will try the TV when they arrive. In the mean time, Amazon's lack of service is a source of irritation.

Worth it if you can get it below $2000

This is not a comprehensive review-just a review of what features I personally use in this HDTV as of this writing (January 2009). I just wanted to post my support for Sony making a very nice LCD-based HDTV.

I'm not a high end video enthusiast, and I bought the unit on sale ($1700), as I thought the launch price of $2500 was WAY too much. Anyway, I mostly use it with my Playstation 3 games and Blu-Ray movies, and may use it for PC gaming later. The images are nice and crisp and the anti-judder "motionflow" is creepy, but cool. Watching Rambo 4 panning sequences makes it look like actual live action, so for movies that are shot natively at 24 FPS, the technology has a "wow factor" that has to be seen to be believed. Wipeout HD looks fantastic on it, and seeing Blu-Ray resolution images on something of this size (or bigger) is a noticeable step up in visual quality that standard DVD resolutions just don't have even if they are upscaled. I plugged in my wife's laptop and with a gold-plated VGA connector, the 1280X1024 resolution was good, but her laptop doesn't offer a 1920X1080 resolution so if you have the intent to use the HDTV as a giant computer monitor, check to make sure your video card has the option of 1920X1080. The unit includes some JPEG images hardwired to the Linux-powered BRAVIA system, and so the colors are really robust on a high quality still picture. The navigation menus are pretty easy to use including the network setup. The audio has a good volume to it, and there is just enough bass to balance everything out. The simulated surround sound also works nicely. The unit feels like it is under 50 pounds so it's easily movable and the chassis is very attractive (I like the "floating LED" on the front).

So far the only negative here is that the remote control cannot control my Playstation 3 Blu-Ray DVD functionality. I assumed that it would...

If you can get this HDTV under $2000, like the price I paid for it, it's still expensive, but I think it's worth it. Highly recommended.

Great TV

I bought this TV around Oct this year. Everything looks great! Had to upgrade my old Dell 32" LCD. Shopped around for a while. Did the whole LCD versus plasma thing. I chose the Samsung LCD because the of the price, otherwise I was looking at the Pioneer Kuro.

The "Halo" doesn't bother me one bit. I do have it, but only noticed it after I read a few reviews. I'm too busy watching the screen to notice. Watching Blu-ray / HD-DVD (yes I do have one) or my DVD looks awesome on this. Make sure you have the 120Hz Auto thing turned on while you use your up-converting player.

My ONLY qualm with this unit is the bezel. I bought the 750 because I liked how the bezel added a "touch of class." The only problem with it is that because it's "piano black," when the unit is off I can see that the panel is not flat. There are little "dimples" or imperfections in the glass. I'm used to looking at the body lines of cars so I see those flaws in almost everything I look at. Doesn't affect the picture quality to me, so "oh well."

Best TV on the market for the price

I purchased this same TV from Circuit City on Black Friday in 2008 and I paid well over the currently listed price of 1886 which I think is a STEAL. The TV cost me 2400 but it was worth every penny. Not only is the detail and picture clarity super crisp, but the 120HZ option turns your TV into a sideline window when watching any sports. Its just as if you are AT the game. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this TV!

GREAT TV! VERY HAPPY!

I purchased this TV from a local H.H.Gregg, but I got them to match the price when Amazon had it at $1,899.00! This was cheaper than the lower 650 series Samsung and it comes with extra content and, in my opinion is more astheticly pleasing with a wider glass bezel rather than the "rounded" plastic corners of the 650. It also has VERY subtle DARK red around the outside that is barely noticeable. CNET and others complained of the red, but I can barely see it, even when looking for it.

Others also complained of the extended bezel corners caused an annoying reflection/glare by reflecting the light from the screen in the corners and causing some distraction, I have also looked for this and did so on the store model as well and have not noticed ANY distracting light or reflections. I have heard that there are different screens and coatings that may have been used that could contribute to this affect. My TV says SQ01 as a version number which may tell those concerned some info about my specific model.

The complaints about the extra content are valid as it truly does feel "tacked on", however it is a nice feature that can be used to add ambient background during parties and to show off your TV at the same time, as the pictures that come with it are stunningly gorgeous. The fact that I got this TV cheaper than the 650 Series that did not come with this content (i.e. cooking recipes, wallpaper type pics, children's games, etc.) is really the only reason I can justify getting it.

I have also found the complaints about the remote "wheel" (like a cheap version of the iPod navigation wheel) to be true for the most part, as it IS NOT very responsive...BUT I very rarely notice b/c you can just click the bottom, top and left/right portions to have it act as arrows would, which IS VERY responsive. I find myself not even utilizing or missing the wheel feature.

I have set each input for the various accessories I have, being Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3. The PS3 input is set for dark room Blu-ray viewing per CNET's recommended settings. It IS BEAUTIFUL! I recently viewed my friend's 50" Sony DLP, watching Casino Royal "on below DVD downloaded quality granted" but noticed that the blacks were DARKER on HIS, but with the overall better picture quality and brighter picture I am still EXTREMELY pleased with this TV! Very little color adjustment is needed out of the box, I just left mine alone and set it on WARM 2! The "Game" mode for the 360 and PS3 when playing games is great!. The "Sports" mode is very accessible through the E.Mode button via the remote allowing a quick change from the dark room film settings for my cable box! I would only recommend (as many others have said) the 120Hz being turned on for SPORTS ONLY, unless you want to see cheap background sets and props in Blu-rays and DVDs! I noticed many of these in Pirates of the Caribbean, The Strangers, and The Dark Knight when playing with the 120Hz settings.

Overall great TV and got a great deal thanks to Amazon's pricing and H.H. Gregg's price matching policy! Love this TV it is great mounted on my wall in my bedroom!

Customer Review :

Not the best, but very nice.

I've owned the set for 4 months now, so its enough time to review the set and be objective about it. Firstly, I think the Sony XBR series sets and the Pioneer Elite series have the better picture, but it comes at a large jump in price. At the time this set was purchased at Amazon.com, the price was $1299.00 and represented one of the lowest prices you could find; there are other places that were less expensive, but for the price difference of $100.00 or so, I'd rather spend my money on a sure thing that Amazon.com represents.

The picture is very clear and the adjustments to the picture quality are available, though the menu for set makes you jump thru several screens to get there; once there, the adjustments are easy enough to do. I found the set to be too bright when set at the default settings, so I turned the brightness down to 40.

The red touch of colour seems to make the set stand out; yet, that isn't what I complain about this set. The piano black bezel seems to attract dust like nothing I've ever seen, it is necessary for me to clean the bezel several times a week to keep it clean.

The standard speakers are something of a surprise; they sound a lot better than I thought that they would, so if you're not into surround sound or home theater, it ought to be good enough. I have the set hooked up to a Yamaha 5.1 receiver, with Polk frnt speakers, Klipsch center speakers and Onkyo rears with a B&W sub for watching certain movies; though most of time I use either the tv speakers or just the front Polk's to listen to.

The 120 Hz feature does make a difference in high action scenes, but even with normal movement it does sharpen the picture and is not a distraction, so I leave it on.

If you must have the best picture, then this is not the set for you; having said that, you will have to make a large jump in price in order to get a better picture. For the money spent, this set represents an excellent value and a good comprise between price, picture quality and ease of use.

Outstanding deal

I have had the Samsung 40" TOC Flat Panel for about a month. This is one of the best electronic purchases that I have ever made. This TV exceeds all expectations. As stated by other, the speakers could be better BUT, this TV deserves a home theater system to accompany its performance. The wheel on the remote can be tricky to manuever, but all I consider this to be is a tactile stimulation to master. After a few time with the remote---NO BIG DEAL. I highly recommend this model or larger to anyone looking for the best bang for your buck.

Samsung LN40a650 HDTV - WOW picture quality, 2 minor disappointments

We are thrilled with:
- the Amazon price of this TV compared to all other sellers we researched, both in-store and online
- our white glove delivery service experience, which was excellent as the TV came within a week of ordering and the gentlemen delivering and setting up the TV were efficient and courteous
- the quality of the picture we get. We watch a mix of digital (not HD) and HD programs as are currently available from our cable provider, and while the HD programs are definitely better, many of the digital programs are also very sharp and clear. We have a Panasonic DMP BD35K blu-ray disc player and the few movies we've watched, both blu-ray and standard, have looked great.

Other info:

We have found that keeping the 120 hz option on works well for all programming, especially sports programs, but do turn it off for blu-ray discs.

The TV sound is a bit tinny but we have a home theatre speaker system hooked up to the TV that we use for movies, and we also change the TV sound settings in the menu from standard to other options to make voices sound fuller and richer.

We find no problem with operating the remote as we ignore the wheel option and use all buttons.

Because the HD cable box we rented from our cable company was not calibrated correctly for our TV, it took a few days and a number of phone calls to the cable company (the name starts with C) to find a rep who would agree to tell us how to change the cable box settings at home rather than pay for a service call as the first few reps insisted on. Once we changed the picture setting to widescreen and the resolution to 1080, we started getting the amazing picture quality we saw in stores.

Two minor disappointments:

We have a Nintendo Wii system and have found that some of the games on the sports disc look a little jagged around the edges. We purchased a Wii HD Link Compnent Cable from Amazon but that has not eliminated the jaggies.

To use the TV screen to show digital camera images, we hooked up our Apple PowerBook G4 15" monitor computer to the TV with a DVI to HDMI cable, following the manual directions, but that did not work. After much digging for info on the Samsung web site, we discovered that our TV supports an Apple PowerBook G4 12" monitor computer, but not a 15" monitor computer. We have since switched to a flash drive which allows us to put images on the TV screen and access the options provided.

All in all, we are very happy we purchased this TV.

Great Tele

I bought this tele from Amazon 3 months ago. It's a great set. The color definition is really good, and it's an incredible value for $1450 - the price I paid for it. I took a month to decide between a 40 inch and 46 inch model. In the end I'm glad I chose the 40 inch model. I reside in an apartment and although the apartment is pretty big the 40 inch fits better with the decor.

I also purchased the Samsung extended warranty. Time will tell if I will use the warranty.

I would highly recommend this tele!

Awesome, Awesome!

I have had this now for a little over two weeks, and am blown away by the picture quality. The reviewer who complained about only one rf antenna input needs to get a new set top box from the cable company or change to a new provider. I am subscribed to Verizon FIOS in the Maryland suburbs, and their set top box for HD has multiple outputs including an HDMI. This TV has multiple inputs, including a single RF input for off the air or cable; three older yellow, red and white types; two component inputs, 4 HDMI inputs plus a PC and DMeX input. This should cover everyone's needs. The remote will control up to 4 devices including Verizon's STB, and you can program it tell you what device you are connecting.

Overall, I was pleased with the white glove delivery. The CEVA company out of Odenton said they would deliver it between 10 and 3, but the driver didn't arrive until 5. In his defense, he said that this was the last of his 22 appointments for that day. He came in and helped to move the older 32 inch CRT TV, and to set up the SONY. He didn't leave until the new TV was working properly, which was easily done.

So far everything is working perfectly, and if I could, I would give it more than 5 stars.

I have been an Amazon purchaser for almost ten years, and have never been disappointed.

non accurate primary colors

I own 46" XBR6 for about 3 weeks now, I use this as a monitor from time to time and find primary colors somewhat inaccurate. Though I have to say this display does provide POP people ask for. I have not played any blu-ray movies so can't comment on that but pretty sure it would look great. Black levels are much better than I expected from an LCD. Even SDTV feed from cable looks better than expected but not for all programming so I can firmly say that upconversion process is pretty good. I did not see any motion blur while watching football. My initial comment about non-accurate color is more evident when you have another TV/monitor side by side (i have 21" NEC Professional series CRT next to my 46XBR6), otherwise it would be hard to tell for most people as my wife and friends were not able to see inaccurate primary colors until i turned my NEC.

Spectacular Picture, Mysterious Sound Problem

The picture on this set is the most remarkable I have ever seen and I have been watching television since 1939. It does have one strange problem. When connected to Time Warner cable in New York City, the sound goes off for a few seconds at irregular intervals - it could be once every five minutes or it could be once an hour. If the same HDMI input is used for the Blu Ray player there is no problem. Nor is there a problem if the Time Warner box is connected to a 22 inch Sony High definition set. Sony has no idea what to do.

I've owned the Sony 46XBR6 for about a month and have nothing but praise for it. The TV was very easy to set up; within minutes I had the cable box, a Nintendo Wii and DVD player hooked up with HDMI and component cables. The TV remote is very easy to operate as well.

As for the picture quality, it is second to none. Sports, concerts, documentaries, and my favorite TV shows pop with amazing color and detail. I knew that the XBR series was known for its top-notch picture quality, but I am honestly surprised at how amazing the HD picture quality is on this TV.

If you are in the market for an LCD HDTV do yourself a favor and check the 46XBR6 out in person - you will not be disappointed. The XBR6 is worth every penny I spent on it, and I'm sure you will feel the same way once you have one in your home.

What is the difference between a Vizio LCD-HDTV with 720p and 1080p? I'm considering buying the 32 in with the 720p.

Answer:
You'd have to sit 6 feet or less from your 32" TV to see the difference between 720 and 1080 in terms of resolution. See the following chart...http://s3.carltonbale.com/resolution_chart.html

Question : For a 46" LCD HDTV, what is more important - contrast ratio or resolution?
I am planning to buy a 46" LCD HDTV. My budget only allows a choice of a tv with contrast ratio of 800:1 & resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 or a tv with contrast ratio of 10,000:1 & resolution of 1,366 x 768. So which one is preferable, solely on this basis?

Question : I have been looking at several samsung lcd hdtv for my computer room/office and i have a question?
I was debating on myself wheather or not to buy a 32'' samsung lcd hdtv or a 26'' incher. Its the same tv except one is smaller than the other. I really wanted the 32'', but i realized after measuring that it would not fit even if i took off the stand, so i went for the 26'. Both have a native fixed resolution of 720p( common in most lcd tvs) I was wondering that if by going smaller on the screen size would decrease the picture quality of tv as oppose to a bigger tv like a 32'. In other words does a 32' tv lhave better picture quality than a 26'? Does 720p look better on bigger screens? Also i mostly gonna use the tv for playing games, and using it as a pc monitor. And how would 1080i look a 26' opposed a 32'. Anything will be very helpful.

Answer:
The only difference is the picture will be larger on one of the screens(provided they have the same resolution as you say). This may make the image look more impressive, but each will have the same amount of detail. This could actually make the 26" TV look sharper than the 32" as there is a greater pixels/area ratio.1080i material is no different from 720p when displayed on your television as the TV will convert the incoming signal to its native resolution(about 720p) before displaying it. Because LCD's do not "refresh" their screens they do not display their image via interlaced methods.

Question : How can I find out the manufacturer of a LCD HDTV Not just the company that slapped their name on the product
I'm trying to figure out if it's better to buy a Name-Brand LCD HDTV or will a off-brand do fine? My guess is that alot of off-brand LCD TV's are off the same production line as the Name-Brand LCD TV's, just don't have the cool brand name stuck on it.

Answer:
You are basically incorrect. A few of the crap brands are owned by the big boys, but they aren't made or designed the same way. Most are independent Chinese junk.Nor is the warranty or after warranty support the same.To a large extent, there is enough competition with these TVs that, you get what you pay for. There's still a premium for, say the Sony name, but a good part of the price difference between an RCA and a Sony is paying for performance, quality, warranty service, and the repair parts needed for service five years from now being available.

Question : What is the easiest way to go HD on new Sony LCD HDTV?
We just purchased a Sony 40" HDTV LCD 1080p. We have a pioneer DVD surrond system and a phillips DVR. What is the easiest way to have this system setup in HD and what do I need to get this done. I am not sure if my DVR is HD but we just got it about 2yrs ago from Directv brand new. Thanks!

Answer:
Try to connect your DVD to your TV using HDMI cables, and make sure your Pioneer DVD have HDMI output, and about your DVR i think you can't go HD with it.
