Awesome tv
Have had this TV for 3 years with no problems. I love it. It is on all the time and it just keeps going.

TV looks great... some worries about reliability
I bought one of these in January 2004. The picture looks fantastic, and I love how little the TV weighs -- it is very easy for my wife and I to move it. Unfortunately, I've had to move it to the repair shop when, after a few months of use, the TV started making a buzzing sound sometimes when I powered it up. This sounded like the color wheel going bad, and the TV shop in Knoxville that Samsung contracts with to do their warranty service said that they would need to have the machine in the shop to replace the color wheel. They did offer to pick the TV up for no charge, but instead I took the TV in myself to speed things up. I had to leave the TV there for a few days, but the wait wasn't unreasonable.
Since the color wheel was replaced, I have had no further problems with the TV. (I've had it about two years now.) Bottom line: The TV looks great when it is working, but reliability is a concern (the TV repair folks indicated that the color wheel problems were quite common). Because Samsung uses a third party for warranty service, it is hard to predict what you might get if you encounter problems. I was fortunate because the local shop they use seems quite good. That said, the TV has worked with no problems since the first color wheel unit was replaced.

Quality picture, worst possible build quality and service.
I purchased the 46" DLP exactly 2 years and a month ago. 18 months or so after purchase the unit started shutting off by itself with the red lamp light flashing inconsistent times. On some nights it will barely stay on while it can go weeks without an incident. Again, very inconsistent. Called Samsung and the rep on the phone said "Sorry but that is not a known issue and you are out of warranty."
Anyways, it's a shame this problem is so common and deal breaking, because the picture itself is magnificent. I will not be purchasing another Samsung product after this mess.

My Samsung DLP- My love is faling me with a buzzing......
I never watched TV until a few years ago. When I do it, I do it big, so I bought a 52" Samsung DLP, 2005/2004. It was fantastic for awhile, but lately it began buzzing. I know they have heat problems (they no like), but I didn't think after 2-3 years it would start buzzing or humming. NOW, I am not sure it's the fan, but I think it is. I will try and examine if other products are creating the buzz (the stereo or PS3), but I don't think so. I love the product, just may have bought LCD if I knew about this earlier.

Best TV I have owned to date
Both non HD and HD programming looks stunning. I compared this unit in the store to Plasmas and LCD's and I also compared this TV to other brands like Sony and this TV absoloutly is awesome. I have it connected to my surround sound Infinity speaker system and my Harmon Kardon receiver which I think most people who purchase a TV like this would not use the TV's built-in speaker system. DVD's play crystal clear as well, as a matter of fact non-HD DVD's look flawless. The set-up was very simple and the ease of use is fantastic! Could it be better? I guess but it certainly is not difficult. I do plan on purchasing another Samsung DLP HDTV in the future. Samsung TV's are miles ahead of the competition in my opinion.

DO NOT BUY THIS
Got this from bestbuy with 3 year onsite warranty. After 13 months started making strange beeping noise. Got it fixed twice, problem still persist.
Picture quality is not at all that good, I see bright spot in the center.
Do not waste money on it. Sony SUCKS.

Terrible Product
Product and Sony support were absolutely horrible. After 3 months, no picture or sound with standby light blinking. I followed manual instructions and then contacted service providers. Sony had two on website, one with disconnected number, the other would not work on TV. Next step, onto the live Sony chat. Only thing they could tell me was to review the user manual and then gave me the same two service providers I had already tried to contact. Next step, onto the home service call in number at Sony. The service person was able to tell me that the number for one of the service providers listed on the website was the wrong number. Thanks. Could not resolve issue or find another service provider in Northern Virginia - outside DC???? Next step, placed TV on curb.

Outstanding Picture Quality!
For various reasons, I was not ready to go HD yet, so I checked this TV out at my local Sears store and was blown away by the picture quality. I paid $399 for it that day and haven't regretted it at all. The picture looked even better after I got it home and adjusted the settings. I have it connected to my satellite receiver with the S-video cable and it looks better than any TV I've ever seen, that includes HD TV's. If picture quality is important to you, you can't do any better than this Sony. Hurry and get it before they stop making tube TV's!

I regret the purchase, this model has a known issue
I wish I'd read more reviews before purchasing this set. The minimum volume on digital channels is loud and irritating, too loud to hold a conversation, to use the sleep mode, to read a book, or browse the web with the tv on in the background. (In loudness, it's equivalent to turning up the volume to 50% of the full range while playing a DVD.) This happens using an ordinary indoor rabbit-ears antenna, not through a cable box, satellite connection, surround-sound system, or any other device or amplifier. It applies to all programming on all digital channels, not just commercials. Sony Tech Support seems to be unaware of the problem, but I've found it mentioned in several consumer reviews.

Best SD Picture Quality, but not without a few other drawbacks
I purchased this Sony in April 2007 from Circuit City (on sale for $280!). I work in video production, and when my old television died, I searched for a quality standard definition tube TV that I could use to monitor my standard definition work. Of course I would enjoy it as a regular television on the side.
After lots of research and in-store comparisons, I chose this Sony. The picture quality is simply outstanding. I think it is the best standard definition quality available in it's class. I compared it side by side to the Samsung Slimfit after adjusting settings, and in my opinion the superior digital comb filter of the Sony gives it the edge over the Samsung.
When watching television, I catch free over-the-air digital channels through a bunny ears antenna and the internal digital tuner. When the Sony catches digital shows that are broadcasting in HD, it downconverts them to standard definition and the picture is simply gorgeous!!! I don't even watch regular cable anymore because those free (yea, free) over-the-air HD shows are so much more appealing than the compressed, fuzzy cable channels. Call me crazy, but my standard definition television nearly looks high definition when watching HD broadcasts over the air. And when you're watching the digital channels over the air, you get a summary guide of the show info similar to what digital cable offers. And there is a menu option that tells you the strength of the signal. So you could move the antenna around the room to find the best signal. Very cool.
Note: In the menu, turn the picture profile to "Pro" or "Movie" instead of "Vivid". Make other minor picture adjustments according to your liking. I calibrated mine with Avia Guide to Home Theater DVD.
OK, now on to other qualities ...
- The TV certainly is heavy and takes up more room than the Samsung Slimfit. Picture quality mattered more to me than size of TV, so I chose the Sony.
- The lack of audio outputs that other reviews have mentioned indeed is a misstep by Sony. Not being able to easily hook up to a surround system or other better speakers isn't a huge issue for me, though. I am quite satisfied with the audio quality of the internal speakers.
- The volume level when watching digital channels over the air is too loud. As others have mentioned, even the lowest setting is a tad too lound when watching TV at night in a quiet house. But it isn't loud enough to keep me from falling asleep.
- The remote is a good one. It's small but has everything you need. The digital menus are neat compared to the analog menus. But there are a few stalls and kinks when switching through the menu items.
- The connections (aside from the lack of audio outputs) are adequate. I can't wait to hook up a DVD player through the component inputs. The controls on the front of the TV are useful as well.
- The Sony allows you to resize a show to adequately fit the TV screen ... for example, if you're watching a digital channel that is broadcasting a standard definition show in 16x9 with black bars on the top, bottom, left and right, then you can resize the picture to eliminate the black bars.
Conclusion: If you're priority is picture quality, I don't think you will find a better standard definition television than the Sony 27" Trinitron. It's especially impressive when watching free over-the-air digital HD broadcasts. The drawbacks are size and weight, lack of audio outputs, and loud digital channel volume.
But man, that picture quality is eye candy.

Answer:
A typical problem with Sony TV's. Biggest issue they have is the tuner goes out. Most TV repair guys can fix it pretty easily as they deal with it regularly. Dirt cheap huh Remember. Question : I have a Sony Rear Projection TV that is spontaneously shutting off. It flickers blue and then shuts off.HELP
We had it repaired last year and knew this day might be coming. Can someone point me towards directions to try to fix it myself I'm not dropping another $150 house-call into it. May have to bit the bullet and get a new one....ugh
Answer:
Could be the bulb. The most common problem with projection TV's is the bulb. Usually the TV will turn on and then shut off, in most cases a light will flash in the front of the TV.
