Great TV
I ended up buying this tv at Best Buy (they matched the price that Amazon provided) 2 months ago. The image quality is great! I am a bit confused, I thought that the Xbox 360 was not able to produce 1080p resolution (I have the white one with component connections), but the tv says otherwise? The only other issue was with the sound(why it only rates 4 stars from me). When I first bought the TV I was using its speakers. After an hour of playing a Blu-ray movie the sound would sometimes start freaking out on me. I would start hearing echoes and robotic type noises that got progressively worse. When I would turn the TV off the Blu-Ray player would also turn off so i would have to wait 3-5min before resuming my movie. After rebooting, everything was fine. Once I hooked up the surround sound system I have never had any problems. Once reading the manuel, I learned that the Toshiba logo can also be turned off, it got annoying sometimes during films.
Beware surround sound users, some receivers downgrade the image quality. You will also need to buy another HDMI cable (Blu-Ray player to receiver, then the other cable from the receiver to the tv) and make sure they will support 240hz!

Black & Glossy
The screen, frame, and even the pedestal are so glossy and reflective that my next purchase will have to be dark curtains for the windows. The pedestal/TV assembly does not hide the frame which shows at the bottom of the screen. The overall aesthetics of this TV are plain ugly and I would return it if I could. It appears that Toshiba rushed this unit to compete in the "240" Hz market as I have an earlier model Toshiba that is beautiful. The picture is wonderful (at night).

Regza is good-za
I bought this TV online after going to Best Buy and taking a look at it. I didn't want to buy a TV without seeing it in person first...and not having to pay sales tax was a big plus as far as getting it online ;) It was ordered 6/5/2009, and it was delivered in perfect shape on 6/12/2009 (way to go Amazon!).
I was blown away when I went to see it at Best Buy, and I'm still blown away by the fact that there's one downstairs in my living room. The contrast is amazing: I just finished watching The Empire Strikes Back, and I was shocked to see Vader's mask and cape actually being totally black!
I also bought a Blu-ray player the day this TV arrived, and I got The Dark Knight (one of the new Batman films) to see how it'd look. In short: it was amazing. The color was crisp and the response time being 8 ms made no discernible difference to me. I was thinking that might be a downer in scenes with a lot of quick motion (Dark Knight was a good tester for that), but it was not a problem. It was just as clear on the fast-motion fight scenes and the flyover city-view panning as it was on the slower scenes with just dialog. I was impressed. 120Hz is just beautiful (silky smooth)! I believe the TV also emulates 240Hz, but I didn't really notice that if it was enabled; I figure that not a whole lot of stuff out right now makes proper use of 120Hz, let alone 240Hz.
One reviewer knocked the aesthetics of the TV, and I have to respectfully disagree with his assessment. The pedestal stand with which it comes is perfectly sized, and the charcoal-gray bezel looks good. The lit "Toshiba" at the bottom-center of the bezel is a nice touch, and it can be disabled in the settings if it becomes bothersome. I like it as a good power-on indicator.
The menu system is well-thought-out. Amazingly, it actually made sense when I was casually playing around with it. I was able to customize the picture settings to my liking without getting into the manual...and when I did get into the manual (just to see what it was like), I was surprised to find that it was actually well-written and easy to understand. I was expecting something that had been machine-translated from Japanese, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that was not the case...or else the folks at Toshiba have made a darn good machine translator.
All in all, I think this was a very good buy. You get more screen size and better features for less $$ than other brands, so it's a no-brainer. I know I initially had qualms with not getting a well-known brand like Sony or Samsung, but I can say without reservation that such concern has no basis in reality.
For those who want a quick up-or-down on this TV: two thumbs waaaay up!

Not so great.....
I have this 42" Toshiba TV as well as a 37" Toshiba LCD. The 42" developed audio problems just as the warranty expired. The first thing I found was that NO ONE in my area would service a Toshiba LCD TV. I called Toshiba, and they seemed cognizant of audio problems with this set. I was sent a memory chip with new software of some sort. The TV accepted and acknowledged the chip, did a download, the the audio got fixed for the most part. The 42" still has a very slight delay between the audio and video. It is NOT! a good TV. The picture quality has never been as good as it should be. The card reader on the side is ONLY good for "service issues" (to wit, the download provided by Toshiba), it WILL NOT accept the same card from one of my cameras (for picture display). My 37" Toshiba (not a "Regza",whatever that means) has a better picture than the 42", but still inferior to my recently purchased Panasonic TV. The Panasonic TV will display pictures using the card reader. In my considered opinion, Toshiba TVs are to be avoided. I've seen 'way less expensive Vizio sets that outperform my "Toshiba Regza". . My advice-spend a little more and get a Panasonic or LG. I'm pretty well stuck with a (42" "Regza") that guests sometimes remark:"Is that the best picture you can get?"

Love this TV
After studying LCD TVs for months, I decided to go with this model (from Beach Camera via Amazon) and could not be happier. I'm not a videophile so I can't speak to all its nuances, but I can say it has a beautiful picture, works great with my Tivo HD and Panasonic BD 60 Blu-Ray player. I was a little concerned about the glossy screen because it's in a windowed room with a slider but as soon as you turn it on I just don't notice any reflections. Delivery was quick (2 days) and setup was easy. In every way I'm thrilled with the set and Amazon.

Good Product- no extended warranty from Toshiba
This TV is as advertised an excellent product. When I contacted Toshiba to purchase an extended warranty I was told that Toshiba does not offer an extended warranty on ths TV because they cannot find competant repair people in the field to service this TV. This is very dissapointing and I am concerned about service after the 1 year warranty expires. There is a extended warranty offered by NEW but this is only a 1 year extention on the existing warranty for $299.99. Not acceptable.

TERRIBLE TELEVISION
My Regza was used as a secondary television and it only lasted 15 months before the backlight inverter panel died...leaving me with an expensive yet useless piece of junk...NO HELP FROM TOSHIBA!!!!! Buy some other brand...it cannot get much worse than this.

Best Bang for the Buck!
At the time I bought this, it was $708.00 with free shipping. It was the best deal around. Great TV with virtually no faults. Get the new version if you want full 1080P support, although the old model up-converts 720P to 1080P with no problems.

Sound but no picture after 1 year and 1/2 months
We had the exact same problem as some of the people here; we bought a 38" Toshiba Regza LCD with DVD last March (it is now May) and just yesterday, the screen went completely black although we are still getting sound, and the TV menus still appear. At first, we thought it might be a problem with the cable, but after putting in a DVD and getting a similar result (sound but no picture) we came to the conclusion that it was the TV itself. After only one year and one and a half months of owning this, we were in disbelief that such a new TV would go bad so quickly. We called the store we initially bought the TV from, and were informed that the best thing we could do to try and get it repaired. However, after calling the repair shop, they told us that even though our one-year manufacturer's warranty had expired, we should still contact Toshiba, as this was still way too soon for a TV to malfunction. After calling customer service -and telling them that we had unplugged our unit for five minutes, which we had done earlier- we were told that, if we got our set evaluated by a Toshiba repair center, we might be able to get the cost of repair and labor partially reimbursed, and that we might be eligible for an extended warranty. We were given the names and addresses of several authorized Toshiba repair centers in our area, and now, we're just waiting to see what the verdict is (they said it would take about one to two days). Hopefully, it will all sort out. After paying nearly $900 for the unit, it would be absolutely ridiculous to have that go to waste so quickly, when every other TV we've ever owned has lasted for five years, at the least.

Broke 6 months out of warranty - Thanks, Toshiba!
This TV has a tendency toward a fatal congenital malformation too costly to repair. Throwing mine out not only cost me 75,000 pretty pennies, but it gave me a huge carbon footprint for 2009. Uggh. Caveat emptor!

Worked for 18 months; no picture but sound
Purchased back in Dec., 07. Was a tremendous television up until the day that the picture went blank. I use this typically on weekends, its not a regular use type TV for me. Mainly suited for movies and gaming in my rec room. I called Toshiba who referred me to a authorized service center. This is the last Toshiba product that I purchase.

Question : Toshiba LCD 37" 37HL67 Won't Turn on
I currently have a Toshiba 37" Regza LCD TV that will turn on, flicker twice(One of them shows that the screen works perfectly), then will go to a black screen. Does anyone know what is wrong with the TV Any input would be greatly appreciated. Due to us not being able to find the reciept, Toshiba will not let us use our 1 year warranty. Thanks. It is impossible to obtain the warranty. As far as the balancer board, does anyone know where this is located Is it located right next to the screen Thanks.
Answer:
This could be a problem with the backlight or the power supply. Unless you are a qualified electronics tech there is not much you can do on your own. I wouldn't give up on the warranty. If you can go to the place of purchase they may be able to pull a record of the purchase. If you used a credit card you should be able to use the transaction record as a receipt. The serial number of the unit should indicate the date of manufacture and can prove the age of the set. No matter what, call their service dept. and ask for higher level supervisors until someone agrees to help you. Good luck.
