Question : I have a 1000 watt Sony Xplod amp, and the Sony subs quit hitting. Help with whats wrong
I have my Amp hooked up to two 12 inch Sony Xplod subs (1200 Watt max output). They have been used, one friend had them for a year, another of my friend's had it for a year, and now i have owned it for just about a year. They never had problems, and now the subs keep cutting in and out. The power wire and ground both are connected right, as well as fuses, and all other wiring, to both CD deck and subs.I do know they are used, and stuff does eventually wear out, but I am hoping to resolve this as cheap as possible.(Amplifier)http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Xplod-2-Channel-1000-Amplifier/dp/B000PH02A6/ref=sr_1 _1ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1223698269&sr=8-1(Subs)http://www.amazon.com/Sony-XS-L120P5W-Xplod-12-I nch-Subwoofer/dp/B000VHDST2If amp is fried, whats a good alternative that will put just as much, or more power for a reasonable price

Answer:
Oh, boy, where to start...First, Sony car audio equipment sucks.Second, you want to look at the RMS rating of subs and amps, not the max power.Third, don't mess with trying to fix the amp yourself, you risk ruining it. If you don't mind taking that risk, go ahead. It will cost too much to pay someone to fix it. However, you may *try* to send it back to Sony to see if they will fix it for you. Call Sony first to see.Fourth, That amp isn't putting out 1000W or 1200W, no matter what the manual says. Sony's amps are overrated, meaning they *say* they put out so much power, but they really put out much less.Solution: If the subs work fine, then get a new amp. Sony's specs CLAIM the subs can handle 350W RMS, and you have 2 amps. Therefore, you want an amp that puts out around 700W RMS.I recommend getting an Infinity Reference 611a Amp. It is underrated and puts out at least 700W RMS on a 2-Ohm load. You can get one for under 200 bucks:http://shop.ebay.com/items/__infinity-reference-611a_W0QQ_nkwZinfinityQ20referenceQ20611aQ20QQ _cqrZtrueQQ_nkwuscZinfinityQQ_nkwuscZrefernceQQ_nkwuscZ611aQQ_trksidZm38Q2el1313Then, you wire the subs to the amp to create a 2-Ohm load, if you haven't already:http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.aspsubmitted=true&woofer_qty=2&woofer_i mp=1Now, when the Sony subs finally give out, you will have a VERY good amp that will last you years, and is very versatile.I hope you learned your lesson here: Buying something because it is cheap will give you more headaches down the road. If you can barely afford the cheapest things, you might as well save your money to buy decent equipment.
