Beautiful Picture, Amazing Details
I was hesitate purchasing this model from Sharp. I never owned a Sharp TV before. It was either Mitsubishi, Samsung or Philips. I searched and searched for reviews, and there is not that many reviews for this model. Majority are thumbs up for it. So I took a chance with. My current was a 73 INCH Mitsubishi DLP. I loved that tv. The only disappointment was the sound and the overscan. I tried to fix the over scan in the service menu, but no luck. So I traded up (or traded down on size) for this LCD screen. I must admit, this is a pretty sweet unit. I'm not all big on the 120 HZ thing. Some programs do look amazing while using the 120 HZ. Menu is user friendly. It does have the option of the CMS in user menu. For those who don't know, its the ability to calibrate the tv to the way it is meant to be seen. It also has a built in demo features for the 120 HZ vs 60 HZ, and 10 bit processing demo, and others. The Gold bezel on the bottom of the tv, gives it a nice touch of class to it. It gives the ability to stretch, dot by dot, s.stretch or zoom the video. Overall, this tv is NOT a disappointment.
Features: ASV Superlucent LCD Panel - for a more lifelike picture, displaying over 1 billion colors with truer blacks and reduced reflection. Full HD 1080p (1920 x 1080) Resolution - for the sharpest picture possible. 120Hz Fine Motion Enhanced - for the ultimate in fast-motion picture quality. Spectral Contrast Engine XD - for unrivaled deep blacks and delicate contrast management. Active Contrast - Dynamic range extension based on advanced real-time picture analysis for a greater sense of depth. Active Color - picture processing results in rich color, especially in bright scenes. AQUOS Link(tm) - enables convenient control of AQUOS Blu-ray Disc(tm) Players. High Brightness (450 cd/m2) - Sharp LCD TVs are very bright, so you can put them virtually anywhere - even near windows, doors or other light sources - and the picture is still vivid. Built-in ATSC/QAM/NTSC Tuners - provide access to DTV and available analog TV channels. Six 1080p Compatible Inputs - including 4 HDMI(tm) (v1.3 with Deep Color) and 2 HD Component inputs. OPC (Optical Picture Control) - automatically adjusts brightness to suit room lighting

What happened to the price?
I was shopping for a 60" TV and came across this Sharp Aquos LC60E77UN w/gold bezel. Went to buy it today and the price is much higher than the one I printed out a few days ago. Same TV. What happened?

Best TV I've ever had
I had a 65" Mitsubishi HD that I bought in 2002...not quit the same kind of HD. The Sharp just blows it away! Not fair to compare rear projection to LCD, but man am I satisfied! The Bluray, when used is just outstanding. I mounted the Sharp above our fireplace, and now our living room is so much larger. I was not concerned at all about the TV sound as it is hooked up to my surround sound system...I love it! Would have only been better if I had managed to go and shop before Christmas and got that good price, but hey, you snooze, you lose! Get one, you won't be disappointed!

After 2 year the light engine goes and Sony will not do anything for it. Sony settled a class action lawsuit with reguards to theese t.v.'s and anyone that has problems now are on there own.

TV has been excellent for almost 5 years, but starting to fail....
Since I have been searching on this issue for about a week now I thought it would be useful to record my experience for those of you who might be looking to pick up one of these sets used.
For almost 5 years (this December) our 60XBR950 has performed admirably with good brightness, color, and decent contract/blacks given it is a rear projection LCD. Up to a couple of weeks ago I would have given it high recommendations, and in fact picked up a smaller version of the same set for my in laws just over a year ago.
However, as I have found out personally and via some internet searching this set and its cousins have some quality issues with regard to the optical block. I noticed a few weeks ago while watching a football game that the center of the screen was slightly grayer than the rest. This problem has progressed a bit to the point where I am seeing:
1. A definite fade in colors in the center of the screen. I believe it is the green LCD but haven't put a green-only image on the screen to check this out.
2. When my Vista Media Center menus are on the screen for an extended period of time I get some blue streaking through subsequent video. This tends to fade after a bit. Note that I never saw this before so it may be related to issue #1.
The good news in all of this (hopefully) is that I purchased a 5-year extended warranty on the set when I got it back in 2003. This was through Tweeter, which isn't in business in my area anymore, but is still around elsewhere. I am digging out the receipt this weekend and hopefully they will be able to take care of me. It is not clear whether Sony's extended coverage of the set applies to me, and I have also seen reports that they tend to replace your old optical block with a refurbished one that may or may not have other problems....

Incredible picture, still!
I paid [...] for this TV and have had it for just over 5 years. Never had a problem with it. It is only limited today by its not having an HDMI input, therefore your HD viewing by BluRay or HD Cable is limited to 720p. I keep looking at the new TVs of this size, all boasting 120 nad 240HZ etc., 1080P etc. I personally want to change TVs one day so that I have HDMI for my HD video camera, but I just can't,... I have to say that the picture of this 5 year old TV, limited to 720p, still blows away the pictures on almost all TVs I have seen (except for a much more expensive Pioneer Elite - now not sold any longer). I recommend this TV to anyone. OH, another thing to consider is the SD viewing. The processors in this TV (on probably in XBRs to today) is so good that crappy SD cable channels often look like crystal clear HD. Many of the new TVs (to me) look like crap in standard DEF. Just FYI, you pay for the processing.

Worthless
Please accept this for what its worth...
I have owned this TV for 5 years now. It has been the biggest albatross I have ever owned.
Thank god I purchased a 5 year warranty. If I had not, it would have cost me over $4000 to have maintained over these years.
I realize this is obsolete technology and no one is considering buying this TV now, but, if for some reason you are considering getting one of these.... DONT!!!!!!!
It goes thru bulbs and optical blocks like water.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GET A LCD!!!!
but whatever you do, do NOT consider getting this TV.

DO NOT BUY THIS SONY TV MODEL !!!
Sony TV model KDF60XBR950 has an inbred defective "optical block or engine" which will manifest itself after about 3-4 years of use. A bright neon-like blue line will appear at the bottom of the screen and will gradually get wider & invade the whole screen image. After multiple tries Sony "Customer Relations" (that's a joke)refuses to admit that there is anything wrong with this model even though there is plenty of evidence to the contrary. They refuse to extend warranty on this $550.00 part + labor even though they were aware of a problem because they did extend a warranty for a short period in June 2008. Please be aware of this defective Sony product and probably others and make special note of their total lack of concern when you contact their so-called "Customer Relations" Dept. Its true name ought to be "We couldn't care less" Dept.
