Great, great t.v. And a lot of real estate for the price

This is my 2nd DLP t.v. - the first was a Samsung 46" that I used for 3 years. When I bought the Samsung, I wanted to go with a larger screen, but prices were quite a bit higher at that time.
Now I have finally realized my true home "theater" with the addition of the Mitsubishi 60" DLP. I compared it side by side with a 60"plasma, and it won hands down. The brightness of the picture has to be seen to be believed. Also, I find that the colors are more vivid than LCD - when a LCD has a high color saturation, the facial tones are orange. If you set this DLP for natural face tones. you still have brilliant reds, greens etc. It seems very natural, but still vivid.
As far as those who dislike the "bulb" factor, keep in mind that every 2 or 3 years a new bulb will restore this t.v. to new performance - and no screen burn in. If the plasma goes out, or the back light in an LCD, you can throw it away.

Best Bang for Buck

Paid $800 for this tv on sale and it was money well spent on a tv. I am very satisfied. The tv recognizes devices like my Samsung dvd and switches automatically to dvd mode when I switch the dvd on. Even the dvd section of the tv remote works with my Samsung dvd player(play, sop, pause only). My vcr is old and the tv does not switch to this mode when I turn it on. There is a built in digital channel tuner so you don't need a box to receive local digital channels. Resolution is great (don't sit 3ft from tv where you can see every little detail). I don't have hd cable or bluray but the quality (resolution) of what I see is great even on videotapes. I think the tv upscales images to 720p/1080p or tries to. I wish this tv had a pc mode and that the usb port was for more than upgrading software as the higher models (837 series I think) have. TV is about a foot deep, speaker sound is crisp, night scenes and shadows can be off a bit (remember I don't have hd cable or bluray) where the dark areas look pixilated and action scenes blurry but this may have to with movie itself instead of the tv as most dark scenes look great in the movies I saw except for two movies. Elmo's world from VCR looks superb, and LOTR on dvd looked amazing but Terminator Salvation on dvd did not look good. The only thing I could think of is that some filmmakers use better recording equipment than others.

If I paid 200 more I would still think I got a good deal. Can't beat that 60" screen.

Not just a great deal, a great TV. Better than my Sharp Aquos

Three years ago I bought a Sharp Aquos, I didn't consider DLP technology because I considered it "old" technology.. I was wrong, this display looks great. With 20 years of designing hardware for computer displays I know what defects to look for in image quality and this is top notch stuff. Its too bad that LCD technology has eclipsed DLP technology, it has great color and great blacks (unlike LCD's) and runs on less power than my 46" (its much greener technology in many ways also).

I was very apprehensive on this purchase before I plugged it in as I purchased it unseen but its a great display and I recommend it.

Also the menu system is great, the TV guide is a great feature my kids figured out righ off. It also auto detects new devices as they are plugged in an lets you assign what they are by icons (DVD / game console.. etc) rather than "input 1 / input 2 / in... " like other TV's.

So... before you fork out 1500 dollars more for a 50" or 55" LCD consider this TV first.

I am now spoiled by home theater.

This was my first big screen/HDTV purchase. I have it hooked up to my computer via HDMI to DVI cable which you should definitely BUY AT AMAZON - in store will try to charge ~$50!! My uses are an internal BD reader/writer for the PC and use it for my internet based streaming video flix account - for these uses I can verify it rocks! I am blown away by the fact that this is the smallest in the series and still 8" more diag. than one of the 52" LCDs for about $400 less AND 3D ready ^_^. Definely great bang for the buck! I highly recommend hooking it up to some type of stereo or surround system to complete the home theater experience. FYI that in full 1080p for the PC the adjustments for the screen size need to be reduced via video card software - still bigger than a 52" though ;)

Very impressed!

I spend a LOT of time researching stuff before buying and this purchase was no different. I didn't need a TV to hang on the wall but kept looking at various LCD's including the LEDs from Samsung. Finally I decided to take a chance and save at least $1000 by buying this TV over a smaller 55 inch LCD. I am very happy I did. I think anyone who doesn't intend to hang the TV on the wall but instead set it on a stand should look no further. There is virtually no reason to spend $1000 to $2000 more dollars. It has a really nice picture that impressed me very much with HD looking just as good as any TV I have ever seen. I have no idea how it sounds since I hooked it to my AV receiver but the picture is a 10. I am a financial advisor who loves to find good values on nice things and I think I found it with this TV. If you want to look like you paid $1000s more but instead have $1000 more in your pocket then look no further.

Look No Further

I just hooked up this set and am thoroughly impressed. How can you beat this for the money? What do people look for in any TV set? Picture quality! Look no further folks - the picture quality is absolutely superb (no dead pixels). Why would anyone want to pay more for a Samsung or Sony? They undoubtedly make very good 65" sets. But what are you getting for the extra thousand dollars? An ethernet connection? 240 Hz technology? Both features are completely overrated in my humble opinion. You won't be disappointed with this Sharp Aquos. It's stunning.

Great experience with Sharp USA....

I originally purchased a floor model 65inch Aquos LCD TV model 65D64U from Sears in September 2009. Sears had the floor model for some time and placed it on clearance with a price that was unbeatable. I trucked the TV home and it looked pretty good for the first two weeks. Shortly afterwards however, two ghost like horizontal bars streched acrossed the screen that were about one inch in length each. I left it alone hoping it was a bad input or poor signal from my Dish Network HD box. The lines persisted, even with other components hooked up to different inputs. Needless to say, I was not very happy with the picture as the bars were awfully distracting.

I contacted Sharp via their Aquos Advantage online chat and was told to take several pictures of the problem and send via e-mail to their customer service. I did as instructed and recieved a phone call the next day. The representative set up an in-home repairman visit for the next business day. The repairman came as promised (and on time) and related that the problem seems to lie within the screen for which he can not repair. He called Sharp and notified them that he can not repair it. I was told that I should recieve a call from Sharp within three business days as they had to send a request to the powers that be to determine if they were going to exchange the television, or attempt to repair same.

Sure enough, I recieved a call within three business days from Sharp who promptly advised me that they will exchange the television, free of charge, which includes shipping and returning the old unit back to them. Even more astonishing I was told that my current television is "old" and has been discontinued. I thought "great, now I am going to have to come up with the difference for a new model TV". But, not only did they not give me a hard time about the "old" discontinued model, but they advised me that they were going to exchange it with their newest model (LC65E77UM)! I was told it would be shipped via freight and may take several weeks to recieve. I only waited a week before it was carried in my front door.

This newer LCD exchanged TV looks great and has noticably better picture quality than my previous. I wrote this review because I am a skeptic when it comes to manufacter warranties, especially when it comes to high end electronics. I expected lengthy repair orders, shipping it to them, and being without a TV for a month or two. However, the time I notified them of my problem, to recieving a brand spanking new (upgraded) TV, was less than a month. Only paperwork required from me was to fax a copy of my proof of purchase. They took care of the rest. I applaude Sharp for upholding their warranty and resolving the issue quickly and hassle free. I will definatly continue to buy Sharp products knowing that they stand behind them when they fail!

The best 65 Inch LCD

The picture of this set is beyond compare to the other LCDs and Plasmas. The HD is 3-D like. Actually I can see the variations in HD Camera quality as I switch HD channels. I have mentally created a list of HD channels(Sports/Movies/etc) with the best picture quality. The set's sound quality is OK, but if you have surround sound system like I do, nothing to complain about. Another issue with surround sound systems built in, is the total lack of high SPL BASS(20 Hz or lower) to be realistic. I've had this TV since 10/06/09 and have not noted the quality issues(popping noise and dead pixels). I did find though some of the HD cameras that some of the stations are using have dead pixels or need to be calibrated(Used Blue-Ray and switched HD Channels). Picture and Sound quality aside, the best feature I love about this set is the OPC. This feature controls the Brightness and Contrast in the viewing environment. With a huge skylight in my Family room, the ability of this set to mitigate a very bright environment and use so little power is amazing. With the OPC showing 2 green leaves at 12 noon, the set consumes 330 watts. When the sun goes down, the OPC shows 8 leaves and consumes 130 watts. Wow! Thats like having your cake and eating it too! Totally amazing!

Excellent HDTV

Pros:
1) Fantastic picture, colors, etc.
2) Deals with fast motion very well (no discnerable problems in handling motion)
3) Great price.
4) No dead pixels
5) Easy menu and setup.
6) Great looking set (I'm not really sure what people are talking about regarding the gold bezel. If it has a gold bezel, I sure can't see it. It looks all black to me.)

Cons:
1) My set leans backwards slightly instead of standing perfectly vertical. I'll contact customer services about this.

Note: I have no idea what the internal speakers even sound like because I only use my Denon receiver and home theater speakers and I haven't seen any error message about incompatible audio like at least one reviewer has.

best value for your investment

1) The best HD set I've owned when it comes to picture quality; there's no better way of describing the picture quality of this set than the reviewer 'Audio-Video Nut' has put it "The picture of this set is beyond compare to the other LCDs and Plasmas. The HD is 3-D like."

2) The worst HD set I've owned when it comes to sound quality.

3) I have not heard any 'pop' sound; I believe Sharp has fixed the problem at this point in time.

4) The set is light; ready on the stand out of the box. Service from the seller (Audio & Video Center) is excellent; service from the carrier (PIM) is horrible.

5) Overall, I believe this set gives you the best value for your money. I am actually looking into buying a second set, instead of the planned Samsung UN55B8000 (55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz LED).

18 months of research

I spent 8 months reading and waiting and watching the 3 bext LCD tvs in the 46" arena. And it was SOOO worth the wait!
I weighed the LCD TVs in the areas of HDMI connections, contrast ratio, response time, refresh rate, and a few more -but most importantly watched the price every week from August '07 to March '08!
The top three brands were Sharp, Toshiba, and Sony using only the top of their lines in the 46" arena -and watched and waited as all three prices dropped significantly after early Feb (Super Bowl) and saved my self over $1,000!
Will update this review after 2 months of using the new TV.
So far:
No banding problems
Great picture after calibrating
Very poor speaker system but adequate if temporary
Easy to assemble stand and speakers
Aboslutely NO glare at all
Great viewing angles
Easy to hook up: DVD, Cable box, Game system

Do Not Buy This TV

I recently purchased a Sharp LC46D92U after reading the reviews. My set locks up on 61.1 (OTA) and I can't change channels or turn it off without unplugging it. Sharp has decided that it is a signal problem and will do nothing to correct the issue. How can an OTA signal completely take over my TV? I've talked to others in my neighborhood with other makes of flat panels and they have no problems. Sharp's customer service is the worst!

Great picture but...

I love the size and features on this tv and the picture is great - just don't rely on these cheezy speakers that come with it... Just about anything will cause them to vibrate and buzz distorting the sound to near uselessness

Great TV

I have had this TV for two months now and I am very happy with it. Prime time shows are crystal clear. High speed football and basketball games show no blurring. Higher quality video and sound than I anticipated.

I've recommend this unit to a number of friends.

Really great picture on this tv

I bought this tv 2 yrs ago when it first came out and there was seemingly nothing else like it availble on the market. I say this because all my friends who had hdtvs could not believe the picture and all preferred mine.

When I bought this model it was selling for $3000 pretty much everywhere and to be able 2 buy this unit for just about half of that now is a no brainer 2 me. My friends have all been envious of me ever since I got this tv.

I did read one other review here on amazon that said the sound on this tv is terrible and it definitely is. Barely usable for the few days before I got a receiver but my philosopy is that when you buy a tv of this quality surely you intend to add some additional sound.

Questions & Answers Powered by Yahoo! Answers
Question : i have an sharp aquos lcd tv and i cant get surround sound working
i have a sharp aquos lcd tv and i just got a dish hd reciever. we have a surround sound box in the entertainment system. how do i hook up the surround sound to the tv so i can get sound whenever i switch inputs for example, it works with the satalite but when i switch the imput to imput 4, for the wii, i still get the satalite sound

Answer:
The easiest way to control it is to use your TV as the hub, all the connections to the TV and then the audio out of the TV to the Sound System. That won't get you the best sound though. Your Wii and Satelite are connected to the TV directly and should be connected to the sound system directly. This means that when you switch inputs on the TV you will have to change inputs on the sound system as well. To make it easier and keep the better sound you can connect all audio and video connections to the receiver and send the video out to the TV. This will only work if your Surround system has an audio/video receiver as part of it.

Question : How good is the Sharp Aquos compared to others
I just purchased a Sharp Aquos 32" LCD HDTV. In your opinion was this a good purchase Anyone who has one tell me if they are good.

Answer:
Hi, I purchased a 46 in LCD Aquos 1080p the beginning of April. Have no issues whatsoever. I spent several months researching both brand names and technology. Knew nothing about aspect ratio, 480, 720 or 1080 lines of resolution. The Aquos came out pretty much at the top when finished. I found Sears to be about the best place to make the purchase. Prices ranged from $1,699.00 to $1,999.00 for the 46 inch.. The 32 in will be of course less. For Aquos owners, Sharp offers an on-line chat during business hours to help with any problems you might encounter. Plus, a 90 day extension in warranty is given when you register your product. Buying a DVD player that up-convers to 1080 is a must. Good luck.
