Great picture, Easy setup
I have had this set for almost 3 years and a house move without a single problem. Yes, there is a light spot in the center of the screen that is visible when it's not on.. It has not impacted the picture quality that I can decern. Recently, the bulb went. I remembered buying an extend bulb replacement policy. I was told when I purchased the set that the bulbs would need to be replaced. What I did not figure was it would take 3 years for the first bulb to expire and my policy expired in two years.. We have watch at least three hours a day for three years = 3000 hours. not bad.. the extended warrentees was a waste as they tend to be... great technology.. better than my 42" Panasonic the LCD

Toshiba 52HM84 - One of the most frustrating purchases
The TV is good until the lamp breaks. For me this has happened three times so far, every 14 months in average. The worst is now I just bought the third lamp, paid $200, and the thing (I can't call it a TV) doesn't work. So I ended up with a $3000 purchase (this was 2004 and it came with stand) + what I paid for the lamps, and after 4 years and all this money spent I have a non functional TV and a stand. Cheating on your customers? I promised to myself: no Toshiba product ever again for me!

Great Picture but too many issues.....
TV is overpriced for all the issues.. Ive replaced the bulb in the last 4 months, speaker just stopped working and now the darn thing wont turn on again! I am not about to buy another bulb!!! Come on these manufacturers need to step up their products if they are gonna charge these prices for Tvs!! I would not buy again..

steer clear of hdlp Toshiba tv's!!!
Whatever you do - steer clear of Toshiba HDLP tv's!! We have had ours for four years and are on our 4th lamp replacement. I suggest doing an internet search before you buy, because we are not alone!! There have been serious problems with the HDLP lamps from Toshiba. Nothing more frustrating than to be watching your favorite show or ball game and have the lamp burn out and be without your TV until you get a replacement!!!

Avoid Toshiba DLP
This is an annoying and expensive choice for any family and it should be avoided. You need to plan to buy a new lamp, which will cost you about $218.00, every year. That doesn't include any fees for service calls too. A TV that will fail at any moment and require a new lamp is a terrible thing. Calling Toshiba service is a nightmare too.

Follow up with TOSHIBA corp.
This is a follow up to my review of 7/05. I stated in my review that I had some issues with the verticle bars and loss of video at various times since I purchased my set in 5/05. I have been contacted by TOSHIBA recently, and a "file" has been created for my complaints. I have no idea if anything else will be done to settle my claim for a new replacement or not. I gave them details of my problems and asked them to let me know their decision. I will insist on the identical model, as I love the hd performance and I am willing to give them another chance to make it right by me. As of today, two weeks after their phone interview, I have not gotten any response on my claim. I would still reccomend this television almost without hesitation (pendind a fix by TOSHIBA). For the money, the digital picture is very good to outstanding and the hd performance will knock your socks off!!!!.............still waiting............

Great TV when it works
I also had issues with the screen. There was a thumb print on the inside of the screen and a new screen had to be put in. That was the easy part. After months of the TV not working and 5 service calls, Toshiba finally replaced my TV. The newer one has blown bulbs twice in 10 months and has been in for service once. Toshiba's customer service is really bad. They have a "we got your money now your screwed" attitude. Google this model and you will find multiple sites with very upset people. I know some have been lucky, but don't take the chance.

Great product
I have owned this television for over a year and have been nothing but happy with it. I subscribe to an HD package with my satelite provider and use a dvd player linked with an HDMI cable -- the picture on both dvds and my HD programing is great. I have had numerous friends come over and be amazed that a projection television can produce such a great picture. The memory card slot on the telivison can be quite useful at times, too. The television has a picture viewer and an MP3 player so I can load up some MP3s onto a memory card real quick (I use memory stick but the television accepts many different memory cards) take them to my television and listen to them with all of the song information displayed on television screen.
I did have one small problem a few months after I purchased the television. The audio would come on but no picture. I called technical support and they were very quick to determine that my bulb had gone, so they immediately sent me another one. However after I got off the phone with them I put the old bulb back in and it worked again. Have never had a problem with it since.

Inspect screen carefully before accepting delivery.
Inspect screen Before signing and accepting delivery of any Toshiba DLP, be sure to check the screen to make sure that the coating on the inside of the screen is uniform. On mine, there was a circle about 10" in diameter that you can see in certain lighting and even when the TV is off! It will appear lighter than the surrounding areas at times and can be annoying. I called Toshiba and had a service man come out and even though he acknowledged that this is common, Toshiba will not replace the screen. I would have given them a negative 10 if it were possible just because of their attitude. So, look at the screen VERY carefully before accepting or purchasing. If you see this problem, refuse to accept it. Or else just buy a Samsung or Mitsubishi DLP to avoid the problem I have. carefully before accepting delivery

Customer Review :
Fine progressive scan DVD player at a bargain price.
Toshiba makes top-notch DVD players with an excellent reputation for outstanding performance as well as quality and reliability. The SD3800 has these desirable characteristics plus component video output for better picture quality and progressive scan technology for compatibility with HDTVs, all at a bargain price. You may not have an HDTV yet but you probably will have one within a year or two, so why not be prepared with a progressive scan DVD player when you can get one this good at such a low price? And the component video output will improve the picture quality even on non-HDTVs. This player is an outstanding performer at a terrific price.

Nice, but..
Great performance and picture, though has the annoying habit of occasionally locking up during load/unload, have to pull the power plug (and dismember entertainment center to get at it) in order to regain control.

Excellent progressive scan DVD player
I bought the SD3800 to go with my Toshiba 57H82 HDTV. There was an obvious improvement in the picture and clarity over my old Toshiba 1600 which played many enjoyable DVDs. The SD3800 upconverts to 540 and that matches the Toshiba HDTV. It was easy to set up and has worked great for the last month. The remote is nice and large with easy access to buttons. It allows easy adjustment of audio settings and provides zoom controls that help you to fit the screen to your TV if you need it. It is nice and compact and fits well on top of my TV. There are many choices and you can find good info at [website]to help you make your decision.

If you have 3 days to watch a movie
This thing locks up and skips on almost 75% of the disks I put in it, including brand new ones.
If it a rented disk with a few scratches, forget it. I end up using a free Apex someone gave me just to avoid this thing.

My first DVD player; great so far; sound is very low
After countless review reading for DVD players, I was set on either a Panasonic or Toshiba NON-PROGRESSIVE SCAN DVD player as my first. ... Luckily, I had a chance to buy this one WITH PRGRESSIVE SCAN..., so I grabbed it.
After pummeling the DVD player in its first 1-2 weeks of ownership with about 20 hours straight of Stargate SG-1 DVD collection viewing and rental movies, I can safely say that it's a great buy. The menus are easy to use for setup, and the unit features nice zoom and image capture features, if you need that stuff. The documentation for some of the features could be a little better, as I couldn't find the section on storing bookmarks or memorized DVD chapters for viewing later. That may be something that I'll find on my laptop DVD player and software rather than a standalone unit. Finally, the sound, through my piddly RCA-jack-only TV is VERY LOW. I have to turn the TV up about 5 extra notches to hear the dialogue on movies. There is a dialogue enhancement mode for sound, however, that helps with the quietest rentals that I've enjoyed. Bottom line -- a great DVD player, if you can get it at a [good] price. Too bad it doesn't come in black.

Question : Distortion / wind sound when recording with a Studio Projects C1 Condensor microphone
So I recently got a Studio Projects C1 Condensor Microphone and when ever I turn the input volume up past 8 (around the 3 o'clock area) I get this hissy, windy, distortion. If the input volume isn't at 8 it's just a little too soft. Anyone know of any possible causes/solutions to this problemThanks in advance,Izzy
Answer:
Make sure both the "-10 dB and -20 dB pad" switches on the mic are off. That will give the mic maximum output. Also make sure the "gain" or "trim" setting for the channel that the mic is plugged into on your mixer is set correctly. That is a very important step to getting good sound from any microphone. If you e-mail me with the make and model of your mixer, maybe I can help you out more.
