LOVE this television!!!
I purchased this set in November '09. I replaced a ten month old Sansui television, which I was VERY disappointed with. I have nothing but good things to say about this little Toshiba. I use it in my kitchen, so it's always on. The sound and picture are outstanding and you can also use it as a CD Player!!! I am thinking of purchasing the 19" model for another room in my house. Some people are saying the delay in channel changing might be a problem, but I haven't noticed it. I highly reccomend this set for it's quality, appearance and value!!! I shop Amazon very often and have never been disappointed.

Great set
This is a great little tv for the money plus you get a built in DVD player which I consider a bonus. Good investment.

Toshiba 15LV505 LCD TV
As other have said, the time it takes to change channels is a little long (4-5 seconds), something you have to get use to. Another thing is there isn't a previous channel button on the remote that came with the TV, (which I miss). although in the instruction manual in the "TV Operation" section it does show a "CH RTN" button, so I'm assuming they have more than one remote for this TV. Other than those two items I like the TV, good picture and sound. It was advertised saying it was not wall mountable, however the base does come off and I was able to make a bracket that could be attached to the TV and to a wall mounting I had from another TV. It works great. Overall I am happy with TV. Norm

great little tv
i had been using a CRT TV in a small nook in the kitchen, and have been looking for a replacement. after trying several other LCDs, all of which looked terrible, i bought the Toshiba 15LV505 black LCD TV. it has a GREAT picture, more than adequate sound, is easy to use and looks great. the price was even decent. the only missing item is an HDMI port, which I found was not so important after i started using it with the component cables and saw how good it looked. Highly recommended for its size, quality and picture. If HDMI is a requirement, look elsewhere, but in this size TV, you can't do better.

Good price, but you might want to look elsewhere
I bought this TV after much research of models in the under $1000 range. This TV has a good price and, when it works correctly, is a nice TV. However, mine has some problem with its sound, where the sound starts echoing after a little while of watching. I can easily solve the problem by turning the TV off and on, but it's still unacceptable for a brand-new TV. I haven't called Toshiba's tech support yet to see about a solution.

Toshiba Regza 40'' 120Hz 1080p - A Contender
I have owned this TV for a few months now and feel that I know it well enough to give it a thorough review. Why I purchased this TV over all the others is worth mentioning. First, and foremost, the price is very attractive at first glance. And, it continue to be an attraction after looking at the reviews of other TVs that cost about the same. I almost bought a Panasonic plasma TV that was, at the time, only $100 more than this TV but was a full 10 inches bigger and had an outstanding review on Cnet. Forty inches was simply more suited for my living space.
Let's look at some of the positive aspects of this TV. 1. 120Hz technology is a plus for those who like it. With that said, using de-judder technology is an acquired taste and is potentially a detriment to picture quality as it may introduce unnatural artifacts. This Toshiba Regza has three options for de-judder - off, standard, and smooth. I find that using the standard de-judder creates a balance between improving picture quality and with avoiding artifacts. However, for blu-ray media, I use the smooth option since artifacts are harder to notice as resolution goes up.
2. Physical Build and Appearance This TV is a traditional black build with a very matte screen. The Toshiba logo comes set to light up when the TV is powered on but this can be turned off in the settings menu. This TV looks very clean and makes use of a minimalist approach. The matte screen works wonderfully at.. being matte. It doesn't reflect light. In fact, I can only barely see faint reflections when the room is well lit and the TV is turned off.
3. Picture Quality This TV supports up to 1080p resolution and does it well. 720p programming looks outstanding and clear while 1080p looks even better. While is has some drawbacks in the video quality, overall it is a good performer in high-def.
4. Settings and Menus To some this may seem like a trivial aspect when shopping for a new TV when there are so many other features to take into account. This TV is a good example of how the quality of the menus can be a huge deal. There are several pre-determined settings for each particular kind of media: standard for typical programming; Movie for when the light level in the room is dim; Sports for high contrast and increased backlight; Game mode which has higher than normal contrast and turns off de-judder completely; and lastly Autoview which I never use. Ever. That is because the pre-set modes are already very well done and offer a great deal of options for fine-tuning the picture. You can actively change things like the level of dynamic contrast, and several other features that promise to improve picture quality such as noise reduction. It also has an abundance of color-correction options that go far beyond temperature.
I should also mention that as you change the active input to the TV, the settings for each input are saved. For example, if my Playstation 3 is set to HDMI 1 and is currently using some customized settings on Movie mode, it will be saved as such allowing me to freely change inputs without any fuss.
Now let's look at the negatives that will be encountered with this TV.
1. Standard Definition Picture Quality The Hi-def quality of this TV is very good but the standard definition quality is only OK and, at times, is rather poor. Clarity and noise are the biggest problems but are never bad enough to intrude on the viewing experience. High-def does have some noise even with blu-ray media but somewhat rare. The de-juddering feature is prone to create artifacts in standard definition especially when using the highest level. I use standard without any problems.
2. Color Accuracy The colors on this TV are relatively nice but are definitely not perfect. Skin tones range from being too pale to being too red. The black levels are also not as deep and black as they should be. Depending on the picture settings like brightness and backlight strength, the black can look superb. Overall, the color accuracy can be inaccurate but is always only slightly off. This can be easily addressed with the plethora of color correction features that come included.
3. Backlight Uniformity Backlight uniformity is referring to how even the backlight brightness is all around the screen. This Toshiba Regza has very noticeable unevenness in backlight brightness around the corners which are much brighter than the center of the screen. I can easily notice this during most viewing sessions regardless of media type and viewing mode. Strangely enough, this actually comes and goes so it's not always there.
To summarize, the Toshiba Regza is a quality TV that boasts a great deal of features with its share of shortcomings. At the price, this is a great deal for anyone interested in a TV with de-judder technology. It comes with everything you would expect and maybe some basic features you didn't.

Excellent product but sound issues with HDMI
It's a good TV with great picture quality and a nice matte screen.
However, if passing sound over HDMI to the TV (or via the TV, say from a computer to a receiver via the TV when using this TV as a PC monitor) there is a problem: every few hours, the sound gets garbled/distorted and the only way to overcome this is to switch to another input then back to the input you were using (or unplug cable). Of course, this is annoying. Have contacted Toshiba but haven't heard back yet. It's not an isolated occurrence others also have this issue.

Great TV
My choices in a 40" TV narrowed down to this set or the equivalent Samsung. The Samsungs were generally rated better then the Toshiba, but the price was also quite a bit higher.
Picture quality on this set is amazing. The sound is decent, though nothing to write home about. I hooked up a a fairly cheap home theatre surround sound system to use while watching a movie, but for normal TV, the built in sound from the Toshiba is acceptable.
The only issue I had with the TV, was that it apparantly gives off some IR signals that interfere with the remote control from Direct TV. The direct tv reciever did not respond to the remote control when the tv went to screensaver mode. Even though I could not believe this was the problem, I set the Dirct TV remote to work in RF mode (very easy to do actually!!) and everything worked perfectly. This is a problem with LCD TV's in general, not just Toshiba. The only other issue I have is that occasionally the sound sounds garbled, in which case i turn the tv off and then right back on..problem goes away. This may happen once every two or three weeks, and is not really an issue.
To summarize, I'm VERY pleased with this set and glad I saved the few hundred dollars over the Samsung set.

Big bang for your buck !
I write reviews for various gadgets and restaurants and this is the 1st time when I do not have anything negative to write about the quality. I bought this TV back during 2004 Thanksgiving sale from BestBuy and paid about $1350. It took about few weeks for the picture tube to break in and show its real colors ! Then I had a technician from best buy come over and calibrate it (as you may already know that Rear Projection TVs need calibration, but if you have the bestbuy protection plan they would do it for free at your home). Ever since then all my friends come to my place to watch the big games, movies and even to play xbox in widescreen - and everyone just drools over the picture quality. The picture is crisp, specially when watching HD content and watching movies on DVD. I do not watch analog channels since almost all of them are in HD now for a small difference of $7 or so per month. I looked at Sony, Samsung and Toshiba - Toshiba won the race by a mile. Here are a few things worth mentioning about Toshiba 51H84: - Picture is absolutely crisp - Colors are beautiful (try watching Shrek on it) - Even movies in 4:3 look great - Size does matter ! I was about to settle for 42 and I am extremely glad I pushed myself to 51" - The multi-choice zoom feature will satisfy your appetite to zoom any sort of programming. - 7 inputs including HDMI (I use Component and am satisfied)
The only negative: - Doesn't have a built in HD tuner, so you cannot use its cool Split (2 screens) and Channel Scan feature (split screen in 12 screens). It has 2 inputs for Antenna, I connected one to the cable box and other bypassing the cable box, so I can screen the channels in analog (using TV's analog tuner) and then watch it in HD.
There is a false rumor that Toshiba's doesn't do a good job with green - Not true ! Myself and few of my friends spent hours looking at 3 different brands and Toshibas (after calibration) does the Best job with all R G and B (Sony RPTV didn't do a good with Reds) ! Calibration is the key - make sure you spent some time to tune it after few weeks of picture tube breakin period.
I would recommend this TV as a big bang for your buck !

Excellent HDTV! Great Value.
This is my first large screen TV purchase and I must say it was a great choice. For the money it is amazing what this TV offers especially considering the 51" screen. Today's flat panels in that size are just too expensive and from the testing I did you can't see a difference between flat panels and this when in HD. Maybe once the 1080p stuff takes off but not as of today. The TV was easy to set up, it has small built in rollers and is easy to move around and the instruction booklet was actually easy to follow. I have a HDDVR, DVD player and VCR hooked up to it and have to say the picture quality is excellent especially with the big action DVD's. I would also say that the regular cable, non-HD view on this TV is better than any flat panel out there. If you can get this TV for less than $1000 I would say it's a must if you have the room.

Fun while it actually worked!!!
I just got this tv 15 days ago and was perfect up until today and it decided to make a slight pop noise and the screen turned black and then the power light started flashing red and now it wont turn back on. I unplugged it and all the cables and an hour later tried again and still the same thing, just a blinking red light. So I decide to call Toshiba and they dont even have 24x7 support. It was only 7:30pm and there normal hours are 8am - 7pm. Thats pretty bad when a multi billion dollar company cant even have 24x7 support. I am not the only person I see in these reviews that got the same kind of lemon. If Amazons return policy would except this back I would return it in a second. If it cant even work for a month thats pretty bad.
UPDATE!!!!!! IT IS NOW 7 WEEKS LATER AND THE REPAIR SHOP DOING THE WARRANTY SERVICE STILL HAS MY TV. THEY HAVE ORDERED MULTIPLE PARTS AND STILL CAN'T FIX IT. I COMPLAINED TO TOSHIBA MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS ABOUT THE QUALITY OF SERVICE I AM RECIECING AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE TALKED TO 3 SUPERVISORS AND THEY ALL SAY I JUST HAVE TO WAIT FOR THEM TO FIX IT AND ALSO THEY WILL NOT OVERNIGHT PARTS TO HELP GET IT FIXED FASTER. THEY SAY THERE SHIPPING/PARTS DEPARTMENT ISNT CAPABLE OF OVERNIGHTING PARTS.
TOSHIBA WILL NOT JUST REPLACE THE TV EITHER THEY SAID IT HAS TO BE REPAIRED.
THE ONLY COMPENSATION TOSHIBA IS EVEN OFFERING ME IS A 3 MONTH EXTENDED WARRANTY. WHICH THEY SHOULD GIVE ME BY DEFAULT JUST BECAUSE THE REPAIR IS TAKING SO LONG.
I WILL NEVER BUY FROM TOSHIBA AGAIN AND I WILL NEVER ORDER ANYTHING OF THIS SIZE AND PRICE OFF THE NET EVER AGAIN.
SPEND THE FEW DOLLARS MORE AND BUY IT LOCALLY SO YOU CAN AT LEAST TAKE IT BACK.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ANOTHER UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT IS NOW OVER 10 WEEKS LATER AND THE REPAIR SHOP STILL HAS NOT FIXED IT AFTER ORDERING OVER 8 DIFFERENT PARTS. TOSHIBA STILL REFUSES TO SEND ME A NEW REPLACEMENT. NOW AMAZON IS SAYING THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME EITHER. DONT BUY NOTHING FROM TOSHIBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
########## ANOTHER UPDATE TO THE OTHER UPDATE ############
It is now 3 months later. I still do not have my TV back from the repair shop. The Repair shop named J Rudy Associates in Pittsburgh Pa USA is the ones that have my TV and still are unable to fix it. Toshiba is STILL unwilling to do anything besides make me keep waiting for the TV Repair shop. Amazon WONT do nothing unless Toshiba sends them a Fax'd Paper saying they arent going to fix it. So no matter how I look at it I just spent all this money to be RIPPED OFF!@#@$@*^#%&$!@!

Frustrated Customer
DO NOT GET THIS TV unless you want a really large paperweight! A few weeks after delivery the TV stopped working, and could not be repaired. Repairman said that he is called to repair several of this model a week and recommended returning it and getting something from a different manufacturer. Tohiba customer service was very unpleasant and it took sever weeks of arguing to get it returned. I have just purchased a SONY and am looking forward to receiving it.

Stay Away from this TV
I owned the tv for about 3 weeks, then all of a sudden the tv turned off. The little red light on the front was blinking and there was clicking sound when I unplugged it and tried to turn it on again. A service technician came out and ordered a new part for it.
Then less that 4 days later the unit made a pop sound and the picture schrunk about 3 inches on the left and right sides - no luck.
Luckily, I bought it from a local store and can return it , no questions asked.
I suspect from reading other posts that this Toshiba has put a real lemon on the market.

Question : What type of screen does the Toshiba Satellite L300-18E have
Is the screen on the Toshiba Satellite L300-18E shiny and glossy or is it a smooth matte anti-glare screen I like the anti-glare ones because they don't get fingerprints on them as easily and they don't have the reflections which make them hard to see so I would just like to know what type of screen it has. Thanks.
Answer:
Satellites dont need screen they just float in orbit
