Some drawbacks but ok for normal use

Bought this remote and what wasn't found in the listed codes was easily programmed in "Learn" mode. Buttons are small but as with anything else, you adapt to it. One handy feature is the 3 "Macro" buttons you can program function sequences for "1 button" control of multiple devices. I purchased 2 of these $29.99 remotes at Christmas Tree Shops for $4.99. They had a bin full of them in the original human-proof packaging...

Fantastic Learning remote for the Price!

This is the BEST remote for the price that i have ever used. I've had it for about 2-3 years now, and have changed devices on it several times. Even this morning i changed my DVD to a Blu-ray device on it, and all the buttons work great. The Blu-ray was not in the list of devices already programmed in there, so i had to have it learn manually button-for-button. A little tedious, but it only took about 20 minutes and it works great. Defenitly worth the $15 to $25 investment.

this is a very good item, it is nice to use only one remote for all of the units that i have to work with. the learning it has built in is some kind of great. and it don't cost no 400. dollars.

Pros
- Learning function works very well.
- It has all the buttons I need to control my dvr.
- You can't beat the price.

Cons
- Button layout isn't that great. I got this because I wanted to control a dvr. Unfortunately, most of the dvr buttons are at the bottom of the remote, and are not easy to reach.
- The button response is very slow. I would have given this remote 4 or 5 stars if the response time was as fast as the dvr remote from my cable company.

I probably wouldn't buy it again because of the response time, but for the price I had to give it a try.

Works as Advertised

The device works great with our TiVo Series 2. We were even able to program our Roku set top box on one of the buttons that we weren't using so that we could actually get down to one remote.

The only thing that doesn't work perfectly (oddly enough) is a Philips soundbar. It will control the volume just fine but it won't switch to iPod dock or stereo with any of the controls and the learning function doesn't seem to like those buttons.

Otherwise, I'd highly recommend the product to anyone with a TiVo looking to get a cheap universal remote.

WORKS GREAT

I bought this for my daughter and son-in-law for Christmas. The were very happy to get the Logitech 880 Universal Control because they had 4 or 5 controls sitting on the coffee table at any given time to operate everything. They said it is working great and would recommend this product to everyone.

STAY AWAY!!!!

This is my second Logitech Harmony remote in 3 years and just like the first one, this one also just stopped working one day. I do have to admit that Logitech's customer service is much worse in 2010 than it was in 2008 when my last Logitech Harmony failed. I had to call 3 numbers just to hit a dead end.

I need a universal remote, that's a given. I was willing to deal with Logitech's unintuitive remote programing set-up because I learned it well over the years, but don't let that fool you it is still truly awful when you first use it. But how many more of these will I buy just to have them break in two years.

To sum it up

Lasted 3 months

Bought this remote expecting great things. Have bought logitech products in the past and been very happy with them. This remote was no different for the first 3 months. Worked great, fairly easy web based setup great form factor and looks good. However 3 months in the 5 button stopped working. I rebooted the remote to factory settings and reloaded my button setup from this logitech wizard. Worked for a couple weeks then stopped again.

The most disappointing part is that when I Emailed Logitech and Amazon with receipts/order #'s etc and asked them how to fix the issue or if it was a defect and received no response from either. I couldn't be more disappointed in the lack of support from both sides on what could have been a great product.

Harmony 880 Advanced Universal Remote Control

Logitech Harmony 880 Advanced Universal Remote Control is the only remote I will buy. This is the greatest remote ever. Very easy to setup and use. I know u think that remotes are hard to program but this one u program with you computer. The software will walk you through step by step. After the setup it is a one button push and turns everything you will need to watch a DVD. It will turn on my TV and put it on the input for the DVD then turn on the surround sound and DVD player with one button. My wife can work this remote control! Trash all other remotes you have and get one that works for you. This is truly the only remote that I will buy.

Great Product!

I don't normally write reviews but I felt this was good enough to mention. My wife and I have been without TV for several months due to increasing desire to be debt free and decreasing desire to waste time amongst other things. At any rate, we went dark when TV went digital. Then football season started.....so I broke down and decided to buy a converter. I had never even seen one in action prior to this purchase so I didn't know what to expect. I read a lot of reviews on this one and most of them were positive so I gave it a shot. It arrived today and within 5 minutes I was up and running. I really didn't even need the instruction manual but gave it glance anyway. I consider myself moderately savvy with electronics. The setup menu automatically came up when I first turned it on. It was very self explanatory and easy to navigate. I was seriously shocked at how great the picture quality was and how many channels we received (22). The signal strength was also 3/4 full to the "Good" side. In fairness I did buy a digital antenna with a power boost which may or may not make a difference but I assume it does. I highly recommend this converter as an alternative to cable or for regular TV viewing. Great picture, easy to set up and easy to program remote. Hold down power button and push the channel button until the TV turns off. Very simple. Very good quality. Very satisified....

The best so far!

We went with a cheaper model to begin with and got nowhere. I looked at other reviews on Amazon about this model and took a chance and I am really happy that I did! We get over 50 channels all crisp and clear with the help of an amplified antenna (also bought on Amazon) and we are good to go. We love that we don't have to pay for basic cable for a variety of channels that look great! I highly recommend this converter box to anyone and it might also help for you to use it with an amplified antenna.

Product Broke After One Year

We have had this HD converter box for a year now. After only about three months, one button on the remote had completely stopped working...we had not been dropping the remote either. Now, after only one year, our Insignia HD converter box is not working at all and we are having to replace it.

I feel that if a gently used product will not last longer than a year, it must be either poorly constructed or designed and will ultimately be a waste of money.
