Great TV!

While looking at TV's at Costco, it was easy to see that Sony had the best picture. After living with the Sony Bravia 46" bought there, I decided on a 32" for my office. The picture is superb! The picture appears 12 seconds after pressing the On button. There are plug-ins galore on the back, more than the average person will ever need. The sound system lacks a desk rattling bass, which is fine with me. The speakers are more than adequate for a large room and sound is very clear at low volume. It took around 30 minutes for the initial Auto-Search of the available channels, and it ended up showing a number of digital channels I don't think I'm paying the cable company for. TV doesn't get any better than this!

Sound & the Fury of HDTV

Excellent picture and sound quality. You must anchor TV to table stand if not wall mounting as it is light on its feet, sort to speak.
A child or pet could knock it down effortlessly if it's simply on a console table. It does have a pedestal base with pre-drilled holes
to screw into a base table. Still, it would be far better served to wall mount the set, if possible.

Its the new technology

I have bought this 32 inch xbr9 on blackfriday with a discount.
So it quality is perfect in every aspects, pixels, sound, quality of the screen.

But there is another issue, i do watch movies on my roommate's tv 1080hp 60hz so i could not understand the difference. If you are not a technology guy instead of buying 32 inch xbr9 1080p 120hz, go for 1080p 60hz 40 inch sony. (they both have the same price) You cannot understand the difference in between 120 and 60 hz.

Unexpected failure has me concerned

This is the third of four Sony LCD flat screen TV's that I have bought through Amazon in the past three or four years. The first was the KDL32-XBR4(excellent). The next was the KDL40-V4100(excellent). The next two have both been the KDL32-XBR9's(both with the latest software preloaded). Here is where the questions begin. The first of the two XBR9's has been in place about two months. Everything started out fine, but it has now developed a distorted line down the center of the screen. Almost impossible to watch program material that has fast moving lateral motion. Since this much time has pasted my only recourse seems to be to use Sony's direct replacement policy with a "repaired" set. My "new" is going to be replaced by an unknown quantity. The local warranty rep in this area is not very good, so I will have to give this a try. I have to admit that I knew going into this that it might happen, and it would be my responsibility to resolve service issues. However, I thought I was buying top of the line products that would avoid this potential problem. Now I am less certain of my choice, and very much concerned about how the second of the same series is going to fair.

Bad experience with Amazon and J&R Electronics

Hello:

I had ordered this TV from J&R via Amazon on the day after Thanksgiving 2009. More than 10 days later the order was canceled by J&R stating that they were out of stock and all the while they were still advertising the TV on Amazon. As soon as I mentioned this to Amazon they took the advertisement off. Later amazon started selling the TV themselves. I asked Amazon (at least 4 to 5 times) if they could honor the transaction but to no avail. Later I contacted J&R and they offered to sell me the TV for the same price (as on the day after Thanksgiving). Again their Billing department gave me a hard time. When I got the TV I found that it had a big white cloud right in the middle. I called Sony and exchanged it for a new one. Considering the hassle I went through and the price I paid for a 32" TV, this was not at all a good experience.

The TV as such is great. This is my first LCD TV; the picture quality is just great! everything else is good or OK. I would recommend ordering the TV directly from Sony, they sell it at the same price!

Great, compact TV for a great price!

I purchased this TV second-hand, and I use it as a computer monitor. I do a significant amount of graphic design work, so color reproduction, black levels and clarity are very important to me.

Expect to spend some time playing with the settings if you want anything approximating true colors. At first I thought this was an awful TV/monitor. I spent a couple hours trying to calibrate it and, after being unable to achieve usable results, I almost sold it the next day. It took me a couple more hours of a tinkering to finally get it how it is now, but NOW it is fantastic.

It took a combination of video card settings and monitor settings. While calibrating I ensured I had a high contrast background with lots of dark colors. I played a video with lots of action and facial tones, and kept a color palette up. Then I played with the settings individually, I first got the monitor optimized: sharpness (0), contract (65), brightness(60), color(50), tint (G50/R50), color temperature (Cool2), in Dynamic mode using the "Just Scan" option and none of the stupid gimmicky software filtering they add under picture options. Then moving onto the video card settings I found that I needed to drastically alter the gamma settings to alleviate serious black-bleeding (+1.27). I also had to fool around with individual colors using the automatic monitor setup tool that comes with Nvidia video cards. Obviously, your TV and video card are going to differ from mine, but hopefully this serves as a helpful starting point.

The color reproduction and black levels are almost on par with my IPS and PVA panels that sit to the left and right respectively. Even though this is a TN, it does have very acceptable color reproduction. Now don't get me wrong, you will not want to do any sort of graphic work on this TV, but it looks great for movies, games and general computer use.

It is sufficiently bright with the backlight on level 0 both at night and during the day.

The remote is alright. It's quite ugly, but it's designed with older folks in mind. The buttons are easy to hit and the backlight behind the keys makes it easily usable in a dark room.

The stand is sturdy and looks very nice and clean. The base's rotation works well and stays where placed, it will not rotate on its own.

If you do much switching between resolutions, such as transitioning into a legacy full screen program, the monitor does take a few seconds to catch up. It is much worse than any monitor I've used before, but not a deal-breaker for me at all.

I can truly recommend this product, but be prepared to calibrate!

Super Samsung TV

I really love this tv, crystal clear picture when hooked up to hdmi cable. I read reviews that the sound was not that great, sure it's not home theater, but upstairs in my bedroom I have no complaints with the sound. Startup was simple, and also was hookup. I have it mounted on the wall, and will be reviewing the mount for it as well. I did a lot of research on 32" tvs and came up with this samsung which had high ratings. I also want to add I buy most of my electronics through Amazon and have always been pleased with their prices and services. Shipping was swift and easy to track. Another product I am well pleased with.

A video Review of the TV.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R25Q95UB646QBA Please keep in mind this is a general overview . I don't go into details over menu interface, connections, specs, ect. And though the PC connection is a big plus for me I have no tested it yet. So I do not know if HDMI adapters or HDMI/VGA cables are best for this TV.

I will touch on this though, High Def sources are best for this screen. If you own a Wii or anything that can not outsource above 420p do not expect mouth dropping results. The TV does a respectable job buts not what its meant for.

UPDATE. Sep 18th.

The Tv is still running great. I got the chance to hook a PC up to it using a DVI to HDMI cable and the picture was fantastic.

Died after 5 months of used.. samsung refuses to replace...

I had this TV for a total of a year and 4 months. I was deployed to Iraq, so this TV was in storage for over a year. When i got it back, it worked great and nothing was wrong with it. 2 Months after I got back, it died and samsung refuses to replace it. The TV got a total use of around 4-5months. Do not buy Samsung products, they refuse to back them up and replace them.

Good, basic tv

I'm not a techie, so my review is based on what I see. Which is, a clear picture, good color, and much better picture than our old analog set. Controls relatively uncomplicated, something us senior citizens look for in today's high-tech electronics. Someone else set it up for us, and it seemed fairly easy--for him. Anyway, we are very happy with this set, and would definitely recommend it.

The TV of Death

So, I am writing this review while waiting to speak with my third Sony Customer Rep of the day. I purchased this television in July 2009 from Best Buy and was generally well pleased with the television. It was perfect for my bedroom and suited my needs (affordable, size, and reliable).

However, reliability has gone out the window!! My tv for some reason failed in January 2010. It would no longer power on. There was no power damage as I had the tv plugged into a Monster surge protector and my two other items that I have plugged into this protector have had no problems.

I spoke with the Sony rep. when it first died and she had me try plugging it into different outlets (I had already done this, but humored her.) I was shocked that her magic voice did not fix the item. She was willing to send me a refurbished tv and take mine back so I agreed to that.

Well, two weeks later and the refurbished tv is now failing. It will turn on and then inexplicably power off moments later. I have tried it in multiple outlets and it does not matter which outlet I plug it into.

I am now on hold (still) with Sony hoping to get a refund rather than a third television that will fail. This is disappointing because I did pay more for the Sony name and its reliability than other cheaper brands.

I take immaculate care of my electronics so please know that this is a manufacturing problem. I would encourage any potential purchaser to get a different television at this time.

Perfect small screen HDTV

I bought this tv specifically for my Playstation 3 in my "man cave" and its perfect. I have a 40 inch Samsung LCD in my livingroom and the picture and sound quality are comparable. It upconverts the picture to 1080i when hooked up to HDMI 1 the other 2 stay in 720p? For whatever reason the Componant 1 wouldn't show a signal so the Playstation has to be hooked up with an HDMI but I intended to do that in the first place. I didn't rate the Tech Support in my ratings because I haven't had to deal with them and hope not to. This is a great tv and although I am a Sumsung man would recommend this tv to anyone looking.

My advice - don't buy a Sony

We purchased this TV in June 2009 (not through amazon.com) after reading many favorable reviews of the product. We thought it was a decent TV for the price until it stopped responding to the remote in December 2009. Online customer service was worthless (after a two hour wait). To get anyone on the phone, you have to call their non toll free number. After a few weeks of messing around with customer service, we are "supposed" to get a replacement refurbished TV sometime in the next two weeks. To say it has been a hassle is an understatement. When the replacement gives out, I will not purchase another Sony to replace it or replace any product in my home with something from Sony.

The warranty program is awful. Customer service is awful. The quality of the TV is questionable at best. Save yourself the headaches and stress and buy a brand who treats their customers better and stands behind their products. In other words, don't buy Sony.

Question : what is the best sony 32 inch flat screen TV that i can buy for no more than 550
hi looking to get a new tv and was wondering what is the best sony 32 inch Flat screen HD TV that i can buy for no more than 550by best i mean by specififcations, picture quality/sound quality etc.please help

Answer:
The Sony KDL-32S3000 at £407.91It has a resolution of 1366x768, 3 HDMI slots (very useful), great sound system and is one of the Bravia range. You can buy this at:http://electricalproducts.at/mattsdealsalertDURL=http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/products_moreinf o3/index.aspproduct_id=13482However, if you wanted to get just as good a picture if not slightly better, then I would also consider looking at the Samsung LE32M87BDX at £419. This is a 100Hz TV which means it will reduce the smearness/blur that you can get on tvs when watching fast moving images such as sports or action films etc. This can also be bought at the same store at:http://electricalproducts.at/mattsdealsalertDURL=http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/products_moreinf o3/index.aspproduct_id=12866Both makes also have 8000:1 contrast ratio, but the Samsung has a slightly better brightness at 550cd/m2 compared to the Sony's 450cd/m2.Hope that helps
