Great TV two years ago
I have had this TV for some time (two years or so) and have not had a problem until a few days ago when I purchased my first Blu-Ray DVD player. Up until this point, my standard DVD player and cable box worked splendidly with the TV but when I hooked up the Blu Ray in the same manner, I got no picture and no sound. I later found out that the player was capable of 1080P output where my TV is not. Fortunately, the Blu-Ray will work with component video cables, but I found this quite interesting since I did not know this when I bought the TV.

Broken in 2 months
This TV was good for the price until it started having major problems seven weeks after I purchased it. The picture started jumping up and down on the screen, blinking as it did this. Then, after several minutes of flashing, the screen would go blank. The customer service experience has been TERRIBLE, which is why I took the time to write this review--to warn people before they buy this TV. The person who was supposed to fix this TV under full warranty tried to charge me for labor, which was supposed to be covered. After that happened, Phillips claimed there was no one else in my area who could fix the TV. So, when the TV wasn't repaired correctly the first time, I had to take it back to the same person who tried to steal money from me. Do not buy this TV! Of the few reviews I read, another person had almost the exact same problem with their TV. The broken television combined with a poor customer service experience is why I have rated this TV one star.

Best 32" 720p LCD for the money.
I looked at ALL the brands at all the local electronic stores and took alot of time before deciding on this one. I honestly believe that it is equal to or better than all the more expensive brands out there. As a matter of fact, my brother-in-law bought my mother-in-law, who lives next door, a new Sony 32" LCD shortly after we got our Philips, and the Philips definitely outperforms the Sony in picture quality, and I might add that I'm a fan of Sony products. I'd say it is on par with the much more expensive Samsung. This one is for our bedroom, our next LCD TV will be for the living room and WILL be a larger Philips. What I like: two HDMI inputs, a USB input for updating software AND observing your favorite pics, a light, easy to use remote, nice style, great sound, and of course, fantastic HD picture. Dislikes: I could only afford to buy one of these at a time.

Highly reccomended
I researched this tv for my wife and ordered it for her. She is very pleased with it. I installed it and after following prompts on the screen, it said it had found 11 digital channels and 12 analog channels. It gets channels we didn't know existed, using the antenna. I had never heard of decimal channels, like 9.4, Create. Now, after hooking up to directv, without subscribing to HD, the reception is exceptional, without the HD, and when we want to get the HD local channels, she switches over to the antenna. Satelite doesn't bring in any of the decimal channels.
Now, I would like to buy a 26" Phillips LCD HDTV for my den. Whew I ordered tv they were not available.

Great TV, will always buy Philips from now on.
I bought this TV back in September 2007 for $699+tax at Best Buy. At first, I did read about Philips TVs having dead screen problems. But that was in previous models and Philips had apparently corrected whatever issue was involved with this generation. In addition, the picture quality is great, just a shade below Sony's flagship 32 incher while far above LG and such. Sharp and Samsung both are about the same quality except they each has their own red/blue push issues, but that is strictly a preference concern.
1080p is definitely overkill for 32 inch TV. A naked eye can't even detect the difference in between 720p and 1080p down at this level. In fact, difference between 720p and 1080p only becomes visible for TVs 42 inches and up. So why pay the extra for 32 inch TVs boasting 1080p resolution? Of course, unless you are doubling your TV as your computer monitor.
The TV itself has a wealth of connectivity options, from 2 HDMI connections (even though a few other 32 inchers have 3 HDMIs), to 2 components in the back, 1 component on the side, S-video, and an USB port that can be used with flash memory devices for everything from MP3 playback to firmware upgrade. Fortunately I had no dead pixels on this TV (and still don't, to this day).
Its automatic search function was not able to pick up any over-the-air HD broadcasts, which is actually not surprising since I live in the middle of nowhere. Setting up the TV image display involved choosing a series of pictures, according to whether I liked the image on the right or the left side of the screen. This way the TV can start automatically choose what image settings to use according to user preferences. I do have a little gripe about this feature because while the TV does choose the image settings for the viewer, it certainly isn't helpful if the factory preset image settings are not any good. For example, when playing "Unleashed", a movie that's generally fairly dark, images generally had a yellow hue regardless of the preset options. I had to manually go in to the color temperature setting and mess around with blue in order to get a more natural dark.
Other factory preset image options include their color temperature settings such as "warm, cool, vivid, normal". The problem there is that while there's an obvious difference in warm, cool, normal, its claim that vivid "pushes your TV's capability to maximum to get the absolute best picture quality" is pretty inaccurate. What it does is crank up the brightness, sharpness, and basically most settings, in order to try to achieve a more vibrant picture. It in fact looks horrible because when all settings are pushed to very high, some of them do not complement each other well.
All in all, great TV if you can still find new ones.
Some misc. notes:
You should avoid purchasing "refurbished" TVs. I'm not an extreme user, so my TV is on for maybe 4 hours a day, if that. This TV does have somewhat of an uneven start-up time, meaning that the time in between when the TV is turned on until the image appears on screen somewhat varies, although generally no longer than 5 secs. This TV's remote is pretty flimsy.

CableCard works if patient & get a good Tech - Need S-Card
After way too many calls to verizon fios - the cable card function works - so I can install this set where I don't want a cablebox. You need to make sure the cable company brings an older S-Card not a newer M-Card. My set would not recognize the newer M-Cards - wouldn't recognize the 1st S-Card but did recognize the 2nd S-Card the tech tried. He wrote down the wrong serial # and told me to call it in after he left. I did and spent 2 + hours calling Verizon asking them to get it working and they were showing the card as activated. I had one guy in tech support tell me there was no way to get an S-card to work as they no longer support S-cards. I called back and got a good tech guy who kept trying. I finally thought to check the serial # saw the install tech wrote the wrong # down and the problem was fixed.
I'm happy with the product - albeit 720p is now old tech and I'd rather have 1080p - a used set of this model was much cheaper and I really wanted an internal cablecard.
Very pleased - if this was my main set though - I would probably opt to spend a bit more use a cable box and probably go with a newer Panasonic plasma.

Just Bought
I have just had this TV for 3 days but am impressed with the picture quality I connected my DVD Player/Recorder with a "S" video cable & am well pleased with the display. I did find the best price at Sam's Club after spending over 2 weeks looking online & in local stores. I paid $961.00 including tax. Maybe as I get more into it, I may find some of the glitchs that other reviewers have found. For now I am very well pleased.

Caveat Emptor
I should have trusted my instincts and gone with the Sony set instead of this piece of junk!! The picture on this set is not that great and I love the feature of this set that causes the screen to black out for a second whenever bright lights flash across the screen. Philips suggested using the HDMI connection instead of using the component cables. After spending $100 on HDMI cables the problem persisted. I ended up selling the POS on ebay and buying the Sony set. This is the first and last Philips product I will EVER buy. Caveat Emptor everybody!!!

Not a bad deal!!!
I bought my set around June of 2006 and have had little to no problems with the refurbished set. The only problem i had with the refurbished aspect is that the sets stand did not sit level;so i have coasters on one side of the base stand and you could never tell. You can't beat two HDMI inputs and the picture quality is great, even with analog cable. The X-Box 360 looks perfect. The sleek look of the T.V. is just cake. The USB input is cool being that Philips creates fixes for bugs that where apparently wrong and you can view pictures if you do that. I did have an issue with Philips customer service. I bought a Philips upconverting DVD player and the remote for the T.V. was not compatible with the Philips player. How is that? I don't get it. In conclusion i don't see how you could get a better deal. Especially it now costing a mere 750 bucks.

Great TV
I am very happy with the Phillips 32" HDTV. Bought mine at Wal-Mart and the most important factor to me was picture quality. The Phillips picture was sharper than the Samsung, Sony, or Vizio 720p HDTV's. People have complained about the sound and I don't think it is all that bad. Setup and controls are very easy to use. I think it's a great HDTV for the price (I paid $469.00)!

Digital is overrated.
This TV looks very nice but has terrible sound quality. We have tried to change the settings without success. It can be incredibly loud, yet we have difficulty hearing words. This is frustrating. We do not receive cable at our house but have a roof antenna that is very effective. We have noticed however that the image becomes pixelated and will freeze occasionally in severe weather.

Absolutely the best HDTV for the price
I did a tremendous amount of research before I bought this HD, including scouring amazon customer feedback, CNet, and Consumer Reports, and so far, after three weeks, the Philips has lived up to the great reviews. The picture is terrific, it's easily customizable without being a brain-teaser and set-up was a breeze. It also glossy and sleek, while the screen is thankfully glare-free. I do really, really, really wish it came in white, though. Overall, you can't find a better HDTV for the price.
Unlike other reviewers, I find the sound fine despite the speakers being in the back but then, I've kept mine on the stand about 18 inches from the wall and not tucked in a media cabinet. I agree that the remote should have some sort of backlighting b/c until you memorize the buttons you'll need a flashlight to adjust format, sound, etc...
A couple of general buying tips: despite what manufacturers and reviewers may tell you, 32" is a perfectly sized TV for the living room. My general viewing range is about 10-12 feet and I wouldn't want a TV any larger. Also, don't waste your money on 1040p for TV's less than 40"--the higher resolution doesn't register at the smaller sizes. Reputable reviewers say that 720p ( like the Philips) is exactly as good for 32" and I agree.
Oh and one other thing: To take advantage of HD I hiked over to my local cable provider's payment center and replaced my two year old digital cable box with an HD digital box. It's free and totally worth the trouble. You'll get better HD features, channels, and flexibility of resolution.

Very good TV for the money
I purchased this tv from a club for $488 after reading reviews on Amazon.com and Consumer reports. I set the TV up in my bedroom, and it actually may be a little large for that room as the picture looks better if you are at least 6 feet away. I have only regular cable in this room, no HD box. Some of our local channels are full-time HD now, and those channels have a much better picture. I hooked up our HD cable box just to see if there was a difference in picture and it was GREATLY improved over just straight cable connection. Still, the picture is clear and the sound, while coming from the back, is very clear...just be sure to keep away from the wall at least 6 inches so you have the bounce of sound. I am very happy with this TV and would NOT be happier if I had spent $200 more on a Sony or Samsung. This TV won't "blow you away", but if you want a great picture with no "frills" in a small room, this is the one to buy.

Sweet TV
We purchased this TV as a backup for our 46" Samsung DLP. The color wheel and lamp in that TV are constantly going bad on us and we are so happy to have purchased this one. The LCD is so much more reliable! This TV has a great picture and looks really sharp in our bedroom when it's not standing in for the other in our living room. We have not had a single problem with it in two years. Video games look great on it, as do DVDs. The remote could be a little better. Sometimes it seems like the TV is not very responsive when you press a button on the remote, but it's something I can live with. The sound quality isn't the best. I have to turn it up pretty loud to hear it over our elliptical machine when I'm using it. Overall, I'm very satisfied and I would definitely buy both a Phillips TV and an LCD TV again.

Question : PC display on Phillips LCD TV has bad shadow on text
My IBM Thinkpad T41 laptop & HP PC connected to 32" Phillips LCD TV via VGA cable displays text with shadow to the right of each text. Very visible with gray/dark backgnd. After playing with resolution and TV settings, it becomes worse. Each text has shadow on each sides of the text. This problem makes it difficult for my eyes to read the display, especially when reading email, browse internet or read powerpoint presentation. Badly need help. Called Phillips technical support, they seems 'ran out of idea' how to solve this problem, eventually claim all LCD TV has similar problem.
Answer:
YOUR splitting your signal between 2 units CONNECTED AT THE SAME TIMENo wonder you're getting ghosting...Switch one to PC , try the other on another connector on your Video Card.....That's the way to hook them up.....
