Customer Review :
How I fixed the high pitched noise
This is a good television with great picture and many fine features but like so many others my set over time developed the annoying high frequency noise. After reading some of the reviews here and finding information elsewhere I found that the early sets had a defective component on the power control circuit board. I contacted Samsung regarding the issue but they did not acknowledge responsibiity for the defective component and my set was no longer under warranty. So I found a revised circuit board available at [...], part # BN44-00155A. The new board cost was [...].
To replace the board I placed the set face down on my living room carpet. I removed the screws holding the back panel to the front. I easily located the PCB...the power cord is connected directly to it via a small cable...and pulled 3 or 4 attached cables. The cables appear to be relatively fragile so be careful with this step. I removed 4 screws that attached the PCB and reversed the process with the new board and back panel.
I turned the set on and it has been operating noise free since. Another advantage is that it seems to have improved the picture quality to some extent. At first I thought it was just me but my girlfriend was the first to mention it. Samsung should have recalled these sets but since they didn't I was happy to salvage my initial investment for an additional $100. Hope this helps others having the same issue.

loussy hissing
My set has the hissing/buzzing problem. Something this expensive should not have such an annoying problem, and Samsung should step up and remedy the problems we are all having. No more Samsung for me.

Unless you're legally deaf, don't buy this tv.
I bought this TV a while ago (as in over a year) and I am very embarrassed to admit it's taken me this long to look up the problem. While it's a wonderful tv if you can't hear the whistling coming from the it (which is why I gave this tv two stars instead of one), the whistling is enough to make me say it was DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE PURCHASE.
It's fantastic to watch for the first 20 minutes to a half hour, but then the high-pitched whistling becomes unbearable until you shut the tv off. You can hear it from other rooms too, in my house anyway, so walking away won't help either.
I'm grateful to others who have posted their problem on here because I will be calling Samsung as soon as I post this review to *hopefully* get it repaired free of charge because of the defect.

mine was defective... :(
Impressive picture quality in HD. Not so hot for non-HD signals - my 15 yr old sony crt looks better. Also, it's slow to switch between signal inputs. Minor gripes, I'd still probably give it 4 stars, except for the quality issues below. First we had the same buzzing power supply that everyone else had. Now, it has completely died. I've had it 1yr and 2wks. When you turn it on, the screen flashes for a moment and goes black. Samsung says they should be able to extend the warrenty for 1 month to get it repaired. Hoping a tech can come by soon... I was planning on this tv lasting 10yrs! At this rate, it won't make it 2... and i doubt my next tv will be a samsung...

Buyer BEWARE
This television was wonderful (great picture, great black color, nice features) for 2.5 years and then it just QUIT (died) without any warning. I called Samsung toll free to try to diagnose and they said there was nothing that could be done. So, at the time of purchase this t.v. cost me $1,000 and it lasted for 2.5 years. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT. Beware of this model - walk away from it and buy something else. I will probably never buy Samsung again because there is no way I could trust the brand after this. (Coincidentally I also recently bought a Samsung external DVD drive for my laptop and that too did not work - fortunately I was able to return that and get my money back).

Love it.
I bought a different brand first and it lasted about 2 months. What a nightmare getting my money back on that one. I replaced that one with the Samsung and have had no problems. HD is wonderful.

Great LCD Value!
Great Set Last Year When I ordered it From Amazon based on a Consumer Reports Review saying at the time it was the Best Over-All Value. Decided to Move Up to the 40A650(1080P) and Will Put 32" Set in The Bedroom. Used Amazon's White Glove Delivery and The Entire Process, Including More Than $300 Savings Over My Local Best Buy or Circuit City, Was Without Exception...A Great Value. Highly Recommend! NOTE: In Stock & Ordered From Amazon.

DONT BUY SAMSUNG TV
WE BOUGHT A FLAT SCREEN LCD 1.5 YEARS AGO AND THE PIXELS HAVE ALREADY STARTED TO DIE. EVEN THOUGH IT IS A MANUFACTURE'S FLAW, SAMSUNG WILL NOT REPAIR THE DEFECT. A ONE YEAR WARRANTY IS NOT ENOUGH. WE DID NOT MISUSE OR DAMAGE THE SET BUT IT STILL STARTED TO DIE.

Great TV, but small by todays standards
We bought this TV back in 2006 and it still looks great. It doesn't do 1080p, but at least it does 1080i. We don't have a blueray player and we actually got rid of HD cable service because it was so expensive (waiting for FiOS to hit our area) so we just have cheap cable and a rabbit Ear antenna, but it picks up HD signals over the air and the look great. We connect a laptop up to the TV to watch a lot of videos on HULU and they all look awesome, just as good as when we had an HD box and were DVRing the shows, except now we don't have to set the schedule.
I don't think this model is available anymore, i'm sure Samsung has a comparible model now.
Samsungs seem to be a bit more expensive but to this day still look better than most of the other TVs out there. I don't forsee us upgrading our TV for quite a while as this TV has all the connections we'd need and is big enough for our living room.
My friend just bought a very similar 22" and another friend just bought a similar 42" all from Samsung and they love them.

Customer Review :
Do not buy from here!!!!!
TV was broke right out of the box. I called tech depot to see if I could return the television but they denied ever shipping it to me. Called samsung and they sent a repairman to come and fix it but he said the tv's circuit board was cracked and that it's not covered under the warranty. So i'm stuck with a tv that doesn't work minus $800. Horrible experience with customer service they gave me the runaround and pretty much acted like they didn't know anything.

Question : How Do I Know My TV Is An HDTV
My wife and I just won a new LCD television at our office Christmas party, and in trying to decide whether to keep it or not, we'd like to know if it's an HDTV. Unfortunately, it doesn't say HDTV anywhere on the box and the information on the web is very limited. It says it supports 720p and 1080i resolution and it's 1280 x 768 WXGA, but I'm wondering if these resolutions are only applicable if I were to use it as a computer monitor. It's a Hannspree Hannszurich 23" LCD TV. If anyone can find any information on the television itself (reviews especially) or a way to tell whether or not it's HD, I'd appreciate it. Thanks
Answer:
As LONG as you deliver a 720 or 1080 video signal to it, IT will provide you with a 1280 x 768 Picture.....IT means it's HD all the way....Just don't expect Fred Flintstone to look any better...or Benny Hill for that matter...
