Fantastic HD

I first saw the KDL462000 at Best Buy and went directly to Amazon to purchase... what a great TV and an even better Amazon experience. First, Amazon beat their estimate as to delivery time (even with SuperSaver) and the delivery folks took it into the house, unpacked and set it on the stand. It has had an excellent picture since that time. I still see competitive brands in Best Buy, Costco, Circuit City... and none has the picture that this has. Couldn't be happier. Unless you are viewing a 46"'er from 6 ft in, you're never going to notice the difference between the 720 and the 1080. Highly recommend.

Good but can be better

After watching and playing with this TV for around 6 months, I can say I'm satified with my purchase. However, I think the black level is not as deep as I would like and the response time of fast action can be impove as well. Granted, 6 months is a long time for technology advancement so the newer model might have already resolved the black level and the response time issue.

Good but not great

Good picture - but not great for the money. Especially in 480i mode. It does have a lot of connection options which is a plus. Overall not a bad TV but I expected more from Sony. Basic but functional remote - I replaced it with a Logitech Harmony 880 - much better.
If someone offers you one for free - take it - otherwise shop around. There are better and cheaper TVs.

Sony 46" Bravia TV

I am very pleased with this t.v. and the fast delivery service and fine business practice but in checking after the fact, I found that I could have purchased this item locally for the same price and saved all the chipping charges. That is the only thing I am not happy about. I thought that this would be a better price than a brick front store.

in 2 years will need a new optical engine

I have a sony lcd tv and after 2 years the optical engine went. Luckily I bought the warantee because this part is $1100 including installation. According to our repair facility this part breaks alot. The life of the optical engine is about 2 years tops. Also the optical engine gets backordered alot from sony sometimes for months. I only had to wait a couple of weeks.

I loved this tv until it broke and had to be without it for weeks waiting for the backordered part.

I love this tv once it was returned. I am glad my warantee is good thru 2009 so that when the optical engine goes in 2 more years I will get another new one.

My advise BUY A WARANTEE

Excellent Product

We bought this product after a couple of weeks of research and thinking. We needed a TV for our niche in the family room. Since we already have a niche, several recommended we buy a DLP so you'll get a bigger screen TV for the same or lower price. When I went to the best buys and the like, I found that the DLP looks good if you are right in front but it does not have a good viewing angle. I loved the look of plasma TVs but again since I wanted it in my family room, I was looking for something brighter. I loved all the SONY's in the stores. Amazon had a great deal on this TV, no taxes, free white glove delivery. I saved nearly $600. I am extremely happy with the HD channels and brightness of this TV in the family room. The only con is for some channels where there is a lot of speed in the picture the TV acts like its catching up. I was told the XBR with 120 Hertz is better in this regard. Overall, I am very pleased with the product and with Amazon. In the future I will not buy any product without checking on Amazon.

Really Nice !!

I'll describe the TV and the delivery in two separate paragraphs. The rating I have given is for the TV only.

The Sony 46W3000 lives up to every expectation. The colors and resolution are spectacular. I haven't found a flaw of any kind (I used to design television monitors for warbirds). Stated simply its a really nice piece. No buyer regrets whatsoever.

The 'White Glove' delivery was another matter. The delivery company called day before to indicate the set would be delivered between 12-5pm. So as the drill goes you rearrange your life and wait hoping the delivery will be sooner not later. I waited and waited. finally about 4:30p I received a call indicating that the delivery was running late. I had a concert to attend at 7p so the delivery was now becoming awkward. Truck showed up at 6:30p. Driver had a sprained ankle and was on a cane, had no helper. Was barely able to help carry in the set. Had my wife been home alone there would have been no way to bring the set in. A jack strap in the truck used to hold the box in place had cut clear through the cardboard box. Fortunately, no visible damage to the contents. Driver and I unpacked the box and quickly tested the set with a portable dvd player. I thanked the driver and went to the concert. Arrived late got poor seating. From my experience.. Amazon needs to rethink their 'White Glove' Delivery

PS [added 6/09]: In October 08 [six months old] the set failed. It took sony several weeks to get replecement parts. The failure was pretty major with the LCD array being replaced. The set has been working wonderful for about six months since repair.

Buyer Beware

When we first bought this television we were absolutely in love with it. However, around the time our set turned 18 months old, the television had to be turned on for 10-15 minutes before the picture would appear. I called Sony who said they could not help me since my warranty was only good for a year. The burden of repair, they said, was completely my own. I decided to "live with it," and simply turn the television on 10-15 minutes before I wanted to watch anything.

However, now the picture is gone for close to an hour. I called Sony again, but apparently the burden is still completely mine to pay for repairs. Yes, I realize that my television is older than the one-year warranty, but I've researched this model online and apparently several others are having the same problem.

I can't wait until Monday when I find out how much it will cost me to fix this problem.

Again, it's a great television if/when it works, but I'm seriously reconsidering ever buying a Sony again if they only stand behind their products for 12 months.

Worst TV Set I've Ever Owned!

Without a doubt, this Sony KDL46W3000 is the worst TV set I have ever owned. The picture, which I saw demonstrated in several stores on a HD link, is abysmal using any other input but HD. Surely Sony should have realized that only some broadcasts are in HD and most other sources of input are not. They could have compensated for those circumstances instead of letting the buyer suffer from a low quality picture.
The sound is no better. It is muffled and unintelligible in many broadcasts, and the Sound Leveler circuit does not appear to make any difference. I thought I was finally done adjusting the sound level from loud commercials to soft movie scenes, and I expected the TV set to strike some kind of balance. It doesn't.
Conclusion: Don't buy this TV set at any price. I paid $1847 and wish I had my money back. Based on reviews I have read of other Sony products (after I bought the TV), they no longer manufacture quality electronics. That's too bad. I've had nothing but good luck with this brand until now.

WOW!!

I have a few LCD TV's and this one blows me away! I spent quite a long time reviewing different LCD units from different magazines, companies, and online personal reviews, and I found that besides the top Sony Bravia, this one is by far my best purchase I have had in a long time!
Make sure you get yourself a set of good Monster HD cables

Editorial Review :

For consumers who want an HDTV that keeps pace with fast-action movies, sports, and game play, Sony BRAVIA V-Series Flat Panel HDTVs combine Full HD 1080p performance and Motionflow 120Hz technology for an amazing viewing experience. Motionflow 120Hz takes both high-definition and standard programming a step further by increasing sharpness and detail in fast-moving images for more fluid, natural motion. In addition, BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs use proprietary Image Blur Reduction technology to further enhance the picture for even better performance. The HDTVs also feature BRAVIA Engine 2 technology, which uses exclusive Sony algorithms to reduce visual noise and sharpen and enhance an already-striking dynamic contrast ratio. Additionally, they include seven versatile HD connections to ensure you get impressive image quality from all your HD components. Take advantage of four HDMI inputs, component and composite inputs, and a PC input, as well as a USB input that lets you play audio files from USB storage devices, or connect a compatible camera to your HDTV for a quick and easy slide show. Sony knows your home theater set-up doesn't stop with your HDTV, which is why the BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs are compatible with BRAVIA Link Modules -- including the BRAVIA Wireless Link, BRAVIA DVD Link, and BRAVIA Input Link Modules (all sold separately). The HDTVs also support BRAVIA SyncTM technology so you can control all of your compatible devices with a single remote. And all BRAVIA HDTVs exceed ENERGY STAR 3.0 requirements for in-use and stand-by power consumption, meaning you don't need a lot of power to get a lot of performance.

WARNING!

This TV didn't work from the day I brought it home. There are problems with the sound dropping and the picture quality. A Sony technician has been here twice to fix it and hasn't been able to.

Sony customer service want me to pay $200 for a different 'upgrade' model, for which I can only find a $10 price difference from the model I have.

They drove me absolutely crazy, lied on multiple occasions and the only way I can get a different TV is to pay this $200. The only other option was to get an exact same model replacement, except they would only offer a refurbished model.

So I either have to accept a refurb model or pay an extra $200 for another model, all for bringing home a poorly constructed Sony TV. And here I thought I was upgrading from the perfect Panasonic I've had for the last 10 years. You absolutely suck Sony.

Great TV for the Price

I bought this TV a couple of weeks ago after about a month of research, reading others reviews and reading the ratings in Consumer Reports. Whether in HD or standard picture the quality is excellent. Many other reviewers complained of the sound but for me the sound is great. Can turn it up high and I do not get any distortion. Was easy to hook up to my DVD player and cable and the set up and adjustments using the TV menu was very easy. I have always had Sony products and actually considered another brand at first but at the last minute changed my mind and was glad I did. I also got a great price on the TV purchasing right before the Superbowl. I am not a gamer nor do I use the internet through my TV so I cannot comment on that. I also have a window facing the TV and there is absolutely no glare. Overall, I am very pleased with this TV.

Audio cuts

Overall i am not satisfied with this product, not too long after buying i started having issues with the audio cutting out on my hdmi inputs, sometimes for as long as 10 Seconds, now the hdmi inputs wont detect any signal from either my XBOX 360 or Sony Blu Ray, i had to unplug the power cord in order to get it back to normal.
Sony has let us all down and its not what it used to be, i would not recomend this product, i've owned a Vizio for over three years now, and no problems whatsoever.

New Firmware addresses intermittent Color Fluctuation (aka "Red Flash") on Sony KDL-V5100

Over the last few months, two different Sony service techs have replaced the motherboard on my Sony KDL-46V5100 to fix the intermittent color fluctuation called "red flashing." The red flashing also affects blues and other colors too, but it's most evident on red. Both times it did not work.

Following the second tech firm visit in early January, the tech firm forwarded a detailed email from me to Sony America explaining the issue. Later, Sony called and asked if I was willing to use my Sony KDL-46V5100 to test a prototype firmware patch. I agreed. After I installed it, all the programs that had the intermittent color fluctuation no longer did it! The picture is still outstanding but now without the annoying intermittent color fluctuations.

Bottom Line: To fix the red flash you will need to call Sony Customer Support and request the "December 2009 firmware USB patch." Sony told me this patch would NOT be available on the Sony eSupport website because the update resets the TV to factory default.

If you purchased a Sony Bravia KDL-##V5100 during the clearance sales of late, you likely have the red flash but just haven't noticed it yet. This firmware update may also apply to the similar color fluctuation issues reported in the S5100 and VE5 series.

Question : Good Deal 46 inch Sony HDTV - $650
I have the option to buy a TV from a friend. 16:9 Hi-Scan 1080i DisplayI assume it is less than a few years old due to the 1080i. It also comes with the TV stand. Is 650 a fair/good dealPlus they will deliver.

Answer:
If everything works the way it's supposed to, it's a good price, but ask how old it is & why he's selling it. You have a right to know. Ask what, if any, trouble he had with it. Is it LCD or Plasma. If it's plasma, RUN
