Editorial Review :
With an ultra-compact design that weighs a little over a pound, the Panasonic PV-DC352 is a feature-filled camcorder that can easily be toted around on vacations and to special events. It features a large, 2.5-inch LCD screen, 10x optical zoom, remote control, and digital still capability with a Secure Digital (SD) memory slot. Lens The PV-DC352 features a high-quality lens developed by world-renowned lens maker Leica AG, which captures crisp detail and true-to-life color. The lens features a 1.3 megapixel CCD, which converts optical data into digital information, letting you capture crisp, high-resolution images. With an optical zoom power of 10x, the PV-DC352 also has a digital zoom, which works by electronically enhancing the optical image, that can magnify the picture up to 700 times. The digital image stabilization system keeps the picture steady and solid throughout zooms and camera shakes. Digital Stills and MPEG Video You can store your digital stills directly on tape or on the included 16 MB Secure Digital memory card using the camcorder's memory slot. The camcorder can be switched into a mode called progressive photo shoot, so that images captured will not have the jagged lines of interlaced video and come out clear and undistorted. The digital stills are in JPEG format and have a resolution of either 640 x 480 or 1,280 x 960 pixels. Videos are recorded in high-quality, high-compression MPEG4 format, making it simple to transfer them from your SD card to a PC to save, edit, e-mail, or post on the Internet. You can save video and still photography on the included, removable Secure Digital card. You can also record conversations or personal messages with the built-in microphone, and then save them to the SD card. Inputs and Outputs The PV-DC352 comes with the standard DV IEEE1394 port (also known as FireWire) for a super-fast, no-loss connection to a PC or other DV machines. You can also connect to your PC via a USB connection. S-video and RCA connections allow direct viewing on a television or VHS dubbing. MiniDV Format MiniDV digital technology delivers clear, sharp video with up to 500 lines of horizontal resolution--far superior to the 240 lines of resolution offered by 8mm camcorders. You'll also get minimal color noise interference for a more stable picture. Using Pulse Code Modulation technology (PCM), Panasonic's MiniDV camcorders provide pristine sound. Choose 12-bit or 16-bit audio recording mode. - 16-bit audio includes one set of stereo audio tracks to produce CD-quality sound.
- 12-bit audio uses two sets of audio tracks, so you can easily add background music or commentary to your videos while maintaining the existing soundtrack.
This is all delivered on a cassette that's 1/12 the size of a standard VHS tape. A MiniDV tape offers digital recording time of two full hours--20 times the capacity of a CD.

1st choice after lots of research!
I purchased this camera in August 2002 and have used it extensively for the last two months. Fantastic! About me...I own a digital camera and this is my first digital video camera so I needed to do the research to spend the $. You can read the tech info here and the tech reviews at other sites (zdnet.com, bizrate.com, etc.) so I'll keep my review simple: PROS: - Compared to several sony dv cameras it has better/more responsive zoom, much better focus, and better/sharper/clearer LCD - JVC and Cannon reviews left a lot to be desired and hands-on Sony didn't compare although they are a little smaller - Very comfortable to hold/use -- buttons are well-placed and easy to understand - Very simple to hook up to TV or computer to review (I recently got windows XP and it works like a dream using firewire *must purchase separate* and the associated software) - Battery that comes with camera has lasted w/o fail...ran out of tape first! - MPEG capability is great and all you do is hook up to computer, download and email...super easy - Still shots recorded on tape do record about 5 sec of sound then camera continues filming CONS: - Instruction manual is easy to use for basic camera operation but was no help in advising on downloading to computer You will find lots of reviews on the 252 but 352 is better resolution, comes with a flash, and a few other extras (compare closely). I suggest getting a UV filter for lens to protect it (352 comes w/Leica Dicomar lens) a nice camera bag to protect your investment, a firewire to download, and if you don't use windows XP & aren't computer savvy, research hooking up & downloading...my desktop has windows 98 and I (novice) couldn't get it to work (too many periphials etc I think). Last 2 suggestions...1)buy online and shop around b/c there are cheaper prices out there (I challenged Amazon on their price today b/c I got it much cheaper so watch their price the next few days); and 2) go to an electronic store first to touch/feel/examine the hardware before you buy...many online stores (esp w/cheaper prices) have a shorter return period. Thanks for reading!

Good intermediate DV Cam
This is my second camcorder in 3 years. Panasonic includes many features inside this DVcam with a very cheap price. Compared to a similarly configured SONY DVcam, this Panasonic wins hands down. You can save up to $300! The videos are sharp, the rotating flash works wonders and often I had to explain to my curious friends about the flash as they were fascinated with the design. The still pictures are very clear and the best thing is that you can take night shots in color! SONY can't do that! Definitely a good buy.

No more Panasonic at home
I've had in the past excelent experience with my Panasonic cordless phones, but not this time. I payed the price of this...phone because of the quality I expected, but PLEASE, dont make the same mistake, this phone has very poor quality. For a few weeks everything was ok, now, the second line has no audio, line one, can suddenly hang up, and the dialing pad dials several numbers at the same touch...
Rating :
Do not buy this phone
I have had this phone for 1 1/2 years. I have to replace it. It has always been a disappointment to me. The dial pad on the phone does not work now. Many of the numbers stick when dialing. I can't stand it anymore and am throwing it in the trash. No more Panasonic for me. Don't buy it.
Rating :
disappointing for the money
I got this phone a year and a half ago and have never been satisfied for what it costs. At first it just bothered me that you could hang up on someone if you held the phone by the caller ID. Then a few monts ago the #4 would not work. The only way for it to work was to press very hard and then it would come out twice. Now most of the keypad does not work right but the most annoying one is the talk button. I have to use a pen and push as hard as I can just to turn it off. Do not buy this phone it is a waste and customer service did not care either.

Nothing but problems, No more Panasonic at home.
I have had such a horrible experience with this Panasonic phone I REFUSE to buy another telephone made by Panasonic. "Dropout King" is right, if you want your conversations interupted with faulty equipment use this phone. The buttons on the handset fail with use. Calling long distance is hard when the "1" button does not work. The answering machine is difficult, if not impossible to use with no backlight to the number of messages and having to reverse your way thru older messages. Finally, the base has given up charging the handset, so our phone is dead...
Rating :
Disappointing
The features are okay, but it suffers from two main performance problems:
--Volume is too low on the caller's side, and there's no way to improve it. They simply have a hard time hearing you. --Range is poor, compared to other 900mhz digitals, and it suffers from dropout, up to a second or two, even when close to the basestation.

Get what you pay for
This Blu-Ray player was thrown in for free w/ the purchase of my Aquos TV (Which I Love). It plays about 25% of my Blu-Ray DVDs.Very frustrating.
Rating :
Steer clear of this junker
Bottom line up front: if you're looking for a new BD player, you're probably not even considering this one since it's way out of date; this review is more of a rant/vent for me.
We bought this BD-DVD player in 2008, when Blu-ray players were still fairly expensive, because 1) it had fairly good reviews (at the time) and 2) Best Buy was having a "Buy a BD player, get 10 movies free" deal (and the PS3 wasn't included). At first, everything was great. The picture quality was great, movies loaded quickly, and the only complaint that we had with it was the sound through the TV was too low (probably more on the TV than the player though). However, as time has passed, and firmware versions upgraded, this player has gone from being a good purchase to one of the biggest electronics regrets we've had (aside from also purchasing HD-DVD players).
Where to start...where every electronic starts, with the power button. At first, from power-on to movie start was only 1-2 minutes; now, it takes AT LEAST five minutes before the disc even starts playing the intro screens (which doesn't include the time it takes to recognize whether it's a DVD or BD, which can take equally as long). Once you get past those, and finally get to the menu, moving between the menu options is slow and sluggish. Finally, when you can hit play, get ready to wait even more. By the time the movie finally starts playing, you're more frustrated than excited to watch...
...and then, it happens. The movie freezes on you, and you start hearing the disc spin...and spin...and spin. Hit the forward button to maybe advance past the skip, but nothing happens. Hit the eject button to see if MAYBE there's a scratch on the disc, and nothing happens. Hit the power button to turn it off, and nothing happens. Then, hopefully the plugs in an easily accessible location so you can unplug it. Once that's done, more waiting, while the system initiates and goes through what I'll call it's start-up process (which takes a fair amount of time).
All that aside, this player is extremely outdated. There is no ethernet port on this player, so any BD-Live enabled movie (if you're into that) is wasted on this one. Firmware updates have to be done through a USB flash drive, as far as I know; that's how I've always done it. I've never received an update DVD from Sharp (unlike with my Toshiba HD-DVD player, which I was still getting firmware update DVD's WAY after they discontinued production), so I don't know if you can even request one.
All in all, avoid this player...it will save you from lots of frustrating moments.

HORRIBLE player - will not play most Blue Rays and requires updates ALL THE TIME.
This is BY FAR the worst blue ray player on the market. BUYER BEWARE. Don't believe me? Google "BDHP20U problems" and see how many forums pop up. Sharp tech support is WORTHLESS. You email, they return your email saying you need to call tech support. You call tech support and you get one of two responses 1) please pay to send your player to an authorized repair shop or 2) we are no longer making updates or servicing these players" Either way, you're out of luck. We ended up sending ours to an authorized repair shop. Came back still broken, having the exact same problems, with a note saying all the Blue Rays they tried (including our "Wanted" which still will not play in the player) worked fine. We stopped buying blue rays and waited almost a year, hoping Sharp would put out another firmware update (update #2 for us) and finally, 18 months after the first update was put out (which did NOT fix our problem with being unable to play Blue Rays) they put update #2 out. Now the player won't play new blue rays (Generation Kill series) OR the older blue rays that it ONCE DID play (Batman Begins). So now we have a useless, expensive, DVD player .... to replace our perfectly functional FREE DVD player. Do not waste your time, hard-earned money, or frustration on this horrible horrible blue ray player. P.s. - these problems (incompatible disc error and rejection of the Blue Ray) are incredibly common. I counted 76 people on the last forum I trudged through looking for answers, that had the EXACT same issue and responses from Sharp Tech Support. I will NEVER buy a Sharp product again. Additionally, it is my understanding that a class action lawsuit is being pursued against Sharp for defrauding customers with this blue ray player. Don't know the details on that, but it tells you the size of the problem. Don't waste your time with this player!

Great Picture But Completely Behind the 8 Ball
This is a review for the Sharp BD-HP20 (not the 20U though I'm sure they're closely related). I purchased this Blu-Ray player right at the fall of HD-DVD and I was initially quite excited with my purchase (though I do believe that the HD-DVD format was better... but hey... some of us had to own Betamax right?). At the end of the day though, I believe that there are far more superior products out there than what Sharp is turning out here. Rather than write a long diatribe I'll simply sum up what I like and dislike about this unit in bullet form below and then close out with final thoughts. Hopefully this will be as helpful as the person who's been providing the multi-year updates to his review (awesome job by the way... very insightful!). So, without further adieu:
LIKES: * Great asthetics, especially compared to other brands (love the blue "o" on the front when a disk is in) * Great picture - when it works. Blu-Ray really is amazing to see on a good TV/Monitor * Great sound quality - when it works.
DISLIKES: * Does not play all Blu-Ray DVDs and requires constant updates for the firmware to do so. This isn't abnormal, but this DVD player lacks an ethernet port, so you'll be doing it via USB - when it works. * Seems to regularly fail to recognize USB drives (Mac or PC) when trying to update the firmware. This is why I hate this machine as it happened to me and I'm now stuck with a machine that has software from 2007. I've tried everything. * Takes forever to load and play (perhaps this was corrected on the BP-HP20U model vs. mine)
In all, I'd recommend that you chose another brand. For all the reviews this thing has received it's interesting to note that it's only 3 stars. A quick scan of the latest reviews has 1 star after 1 star after 1 star. This isn't random. You'd be spending $200+ for a machine that does less than a $150+ machine, and requires all firmware updates via USB as opposed to over the internet. I'm very disappointed with mine and now feel like I've got a mult-hundred dollar paperweight on my hands. I can't even pawn it off on my parents since it doesn't consistently work.
Sorry Sharp... better luck next time.

Wish I could give 0 Stars
I bought this item when it was $499. I've been waiting months for firmware updates. Sometimes machine gets stuck on standbye and wont start. Sometimes it wont eject. Sometimes it wont play movies. And almost always freezes in the middle of movies. A piece of worthless garbage. Sharps website for firmware updates on mode BD-HP20 is a dead link. They dont answer emails for support. Dont throw your money away. This is the lowest piece of crap I've ever owned. I never should have "DOWNGRADED" to blue ray. Never had these problems on a regular DVD player.

Question : I have a Panasonic tx32lxd85 LCD TV is it 50hz or 100hz
Specs on websites say 100hz, but the instruction book says 50hz...Second, the instruction book says it can display 1080p wheras websites says it is not capable of this output...Can anyone enlighten meThanks in advance
Answer:
It would help if you stated what part of the world you live in.It appears that this TV is not for the US market because it's a PAL system TV. Are you in the UKYour TV is not 1080p and it will not support 1080p 24 mode, that just means it won't accept a 24 frames per second rate (the original frame rate of film) so it will probably do 1080p 30 frames. It is a 720p set with a resolution of 1366x768.The PAL standard has a refresh rate of 50hz, that's why it's mentioned, but it appears that like the US versions with doubled refresh rates (120hz) your set does appear to have a 100hz refresh rate.
