Customer Review :
Gave good service but picture gave out after 2 years
This TV gave good service for two years during which we had no problem with it. But, after 2 years, the backlight for the LCD gave out. Now, when the TV is turned on, the picture appears very briefly and then fades to black. One can still hear the sound, however. For a $750 TV, I expected a lot more than 2 years of service.

You have to be kidding me
Bought this TV for a good price but had issues with the slow powerup and slight bluriness. HOWEVER, after owning it for 20 monts (1yr 8 mos) the picture (video) went dark. Googled the problem for this model number and got crazy number of reviews that all had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Called Toshiba and took the unit to one of their authorized servicers. They called back and said the "panel" has to be replaced (that's the WHOLE TV). The quote was $1,600.00 for the repair - WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER TOSHIBA regardless of the quality of the picture or the features. Of course this problem occurs ONLY AFTER WARRANTY has expired
Feature are absolutely useless if the TV is dead!!!
Check out the internet reviews BEFORE YOU BUY THIS

Another unfortunate customer
Bought the Toshiba Regza 32" HDTV in January of '08 and it worked just fine until yesterday when it suddenly lost its picture. Audio works fine and I can change channels, but no picture, just a blank screen. After reading the reviews here I guess I have joined the ranks of the poor souls who paid alot of money for a TV only to have it last less than 2 years. I liked this TV until yesterday. Toshiba can kiss my you know what......I'll never buy one of their products again. Unfortunately I have another Toshiba flat screen in the bedroom.....guess I'll wait and see how long it lasts. I'm buying a new TV tonight and I'll see what can be done with the Toshiba.....maybe I'll take it back to the store and leave it in front of their door. They can use it for a door stop. Buyers.....I would consider what we are saying here.....think about it.

Love It
I have had this for a while now & have had NO PROBLEMS whatsoever, even with the built-in DVD player. Can't go back, my next TV will be a REGZA 1080p. When I have a room for a TV, it'll be there! HIGHLY recommend!

Beware - panel dies after almost 2 years - Rip OFF
Like others, I have owned my 32HL67U for almost 2 years. Loved it. Picture great and enjoyed it. NOW - a piece of junk. I compared my problem to others and have concluded, I need to replace it. Screen nor menus appear when I turn on. I turned it off and unplugged the inputs to no avail. DEAD TV. Pissed off. Last Toshiba for me.

Editorial Review :
Toshiba 47LX196 provides the lightning fast (8 ms or less) response time required by the most demanding home theater enthusiasts. Native Mode provides pixel-for-pixel reproduction of HD content, eliminating the overscan, or loss in picture, associated with traditional scan methods. Eliminating the overscan displays the entire picture more accurately. PixelPure Hi-Bit Digital Video Processing means a smooth transition from dark parts of the picture to light, with over 4,000 steps, for significantly more natural images. Wide viewing angle means everyone in the room can enjoy the show. SRS WOW greatly improves audio performance with improved fidelity and wider "sweet spot" for the listener. Dual HDMI digital inputs provide uncompressed digital video and digital audio in one convenient cable for connection from home theater components. Color Management System allows precise control of the hue, saturation, and brightness for 64 individual colors.

This TV is Top Notch!
Pic Quality is Super.
Toshiba has built in TV Guide. As in the magazine. You don't have to watch that sucky channel guide anymore. The TV Guide is soooo much better, you can browse all channels in a breeze.
I would buy this TV again. No doubt.

Buyer beware_Toshiba is suck, no support, no parts, nada.
I bought this TV from difference store 05/2008 cost me almost $2,000.00 and it last a little over a year. The picture is gone only sound is still working. I try to contact with Toshiba but no luck, I know the backlight is bad but nowhere can find it, if I can find it may be cost more than the Tv. The point is this TV is high end Tv but it won't last as it should be. Buyer beware.

DON'T Buy Toshiba!!!!!
We have had our 47LX196 Toshiba for 2 years. This week the panel went out - a $3400 repair ($800 more than the TV cost 2 yrs ago). We called Toshiba to complain (we were told Mitshubi has been having the same issue and has extended their warranties as a result). Toshiba would do nothing. For $2600, a TV should last more than 2 yrs! I will never buy a Toshiba product again - poor company - poor customer service!

Outstanding TV
I read the above comment AFTER I already had bought the TV and it really scared me. I fully understood his frustration.
I did definitely wanted a full 1080p TV but Fortunately it turned out that "THIS TV IS A FULL 1080p TV".
I did intensive research and the GOOD NEWS: as I said This is a Full 1080p TV, even though it has no 1080p input the picture is SAME quality by fully de-interlacing 1080i to 1080p( see ther manual and the link below). The quality of the picture is equal or better to the best of its rivals.
Bottom line: Picture is crystal clear and Features are also outstanding.
Highly recommended.

Update: the link removed from my above comment by Amazon as this is their policy not to put links in comments; however it's easy to find it:
In Google search for "47LX196 1080p avs" link should show as first result. It the Thread look into second page, a comment by Falstaff66 has the link.

Customer Review :
Not 1080p, but a nice TV nonetheless
First off, no, it's not really a 1080p TV, Toshiba claim that it converts the image to that. If that's important to you, look elsewhere.
However, if you're ok with a good quality 1080i screen, this is a good buy. The various inputs work, and you can get more than the VGA 1026x768 VGA res if you have a DVI video card on your PC and a DVI-HDMI cable, only the D-sub connector is limited. We have ours connected to Cable, Xbox 360, Apple TV, and Wii no problem. The picture quality is good, and the TV is nice to watch.
The network connectivity is a bit limited. The TV can display images, and can play Mp3 files, but only seems to read the top level folder, and there are limitations on the number of files it can cope with. There are dozens of better ways to get those features though and I'm not sure who would be swayed by this as a feature anyway. I suspect the programmers got bored just making menus and decided to stick that in!
It's a nice TV overall, and well worth it the asking price, just don't be surprised when it won't take 1080p inputs.

Not advertised correctly
I bought this TV last Spring and am very pleased with it.HD and regular DVDs look great running on a Toshiba A-2. I was kind of upset because I thought I was getting 1080p but not the case. That kinna pissed me off cause I saved up to get the VERY best I could afford and then find out 1080i is the limit on this baby. Still a killer picture tho.

BEWARE!
Let me make this short. Beware when Toshiba says FULL 1080P, good chance it is not! Bought the tv and hooked up ps3 and no 1080P. Called up Toshiba and got some real bulls__t! Liars, and will never buy from them again!

DOES NOT ACCEPT 1080p SIGNAL!
Hi, people. I've just talked to toshiba center and they told me the TV actually does not accept the 1080p video input. They say it's "1080p" because it always shows 1920x1080 no matter what is the input signal, but it's an interpolation of it... they confirmed that the TV DOES NOT ACCEPT 1080P INPUT SIGNAL. The TV is fine, but i'm VERY DISAPPOINTED with its description. This "1080p" name is a durty sales strategy. I was looking for a true 1080p television (that can truly accept a 1080p input) and i bought this one and now i would spend at least 400 bucks returning the TV and buying a new one... result: i'll keep this TV, but unsatisfied... i've been made a fool. If you're gonna buy this product, be aware of this issue.

no 1080p
I have black vertical lines, screen burn-in and no 1080p input. The upscaling is a decent job I find the picture is pretty nice looking, but if I wanted 1080i I would have bought that. Just stay away.

Question : what hdmi cables are needed for the toshiba regza 42hl67
do i need a male on male connection and are they all pretty much universal
Answer:
It's not quite that simple. First, it depends what you are connecting to. If you have no external devices you don't need any cables. However, you will need at least one cable the right length to connect, for example, a DVD player or a cable box. But if you have an A/V receiver you may wish to connect external source devices to the receiver using HDMI, and then the receiver to the TV again via HDMI. That way the receiver does the switching among the external source components (e.g. game box, DVD or HD disk player, satellite or cable receiver, DVD recorder) and sends the audio to surround speakers and video to the TV. Most modern devices will take HDMI, but yours may not, so you will have to determine what type of cables you need for video and audio (only HDMI carries both on the same cable). In each case the HDMI would be male-male.Second, in terms of buying cables don't bother with Monster or other expensive brands. There are differences between cables (both among brands, but also based on which version of the HDMI standard you are trying to meet. That said, for most purposes any HDMI cable will work fine. You don't need expensive ones unless you are planning on 1080p resolution, HD audio and/or long distances (more than 15') or to hide the cable in the wall. See monoprice.com for inexpensive cables. The article at the link is convincing reading.

Question : What is the wattage of a 42" Toshiba Regza TV How about a wall heater (found in apartments)
I believe I'm being ripped of by my electric company. I know this winter's been cold, but from a $70 bill to a $156 bill is kind of outrageous. I can do the calculations myself (I'm a mechanical engineer) but can't seem to find this information on the 'net. Any help will be appreciated. How about when you use 4 of the wall heaters, and then go to 1 heater to save on electricity and the bill goes up To me, it sounds like there's something wrong. Also, I live in a 2-bedroom apt. It's just me- not there most of the day. And to me, it is really high, compared to my bf's, which he pays like $40 for this month (of course, it's a different county).
