Impressive
I've owned this TV for a week now. I haven't experimented with white scrolling text to look for the blooming and I almost don't want to. After working with multimedia encoding and 3D graphics, I've discovered that ignorance is sometimes bliss. Once you notice something, you can't stop yourself from seeing it all the time (like macro blocks from MPEG compression, motion "judder,", etc.).
I'll also agree with other reviewers that you really need to play with the advanced menus in order to tune the picture. "Vivid" and "standard" are nice for cartoons and anime but are too over-the-top for anything else. The auto-adjusting setting is a nice idea but in practice is annoying because it pops up a logo to tell you it is adjusting the picture. I was watching one night and every time I turned a table lamp on or off, the picture would adjust (which would be fine if it didn't annoy me with an on-screen logo to tell me about it).
This TV is no Samsung (LED). I can definitely tell the difference in the local showroom and the Samsungs are very svelte. But for this price, I don't think you can find anything comparable. The LED backlighting definitely increases the visible contrast; you'll see blacks that you just won't see on a non-LED LCD. I haven't seen the blooming or LED "popping" that other reviewers have mentioned, but even if I turn off the dynamic lighting, the LED still gives me brighter lighting, less heat and (theoretically) longer life and greater reliability. Plus, I get bragging rights for a while. "Check it out; the very latest in big screen HD tech!"
Speaking of bragging rights, all of my friends have commented about how wonderful this TV display looks, even people who have bought Samsungs and Bravias in the past year. Considering that I bought this TV at a price that was the same as the non-LED Samsungs, I'm quite happy. All the technical negatives noted about this TV are probably spot on, but for the price, I don't think I could have done nearly as well with any other TV. I bought this TV as sort of a memorial to my brother who died just this past Christmas. He was very into big screen TVs and the latest tech. I think he'd be happy to see his nephew watching Bakugan in HD glory.

short term review
Picture definitely with more contrast and brighter than a regular LCD. I had to switch trumotion off because the feature made all movies look like a reality show.

couldn't be happier
the quality of this tv is amazing everyone i know that owns an HDTV says that this one is so much better, the difference between 60 & 120Hz is crazy, even watching a 700 mb 90 min AVI movie on this tv still looks awesome which i thought it would be horrible quality on such a big tv. Anyways you might find other TVs for cheaper with the same specs, but take it from someone who used to fix TVs for LG their customer service is so much better than any other company i have seen that on the rare instance something goes wrong they will take good care of you.

Freaking awesome
This is the first HDTV I've ever purchased and I feel good about it. It's a beautiful picture, right out of the box. It took me about 10 minutes to unpack, another 5 to connect, and another 5 to configure. Out of the box, I have zero complaints about the picture settings. So far, the only thing in the image I dislike is the halo around candles/bulbs in a really dark setting. Other than that, this is a fantastic t.v.! You can view the image from any angle and the tru-motion/local dimming features make for a significantly sharp/contrasted image. Once in a while, you get a guy that has been working on t.v.s his whole life and starts bashing every little non-perfect thing about a t.v., but if you work, eat food, and watch t.v., this LG is for you! Energy Star, 120Hz, LED backlit, VESA 200x200 mounting, anti-reflective screen, super easy menu system, amazing picture..... come on! Buy one now! - Josh - Fairborn, OH - 18 Jul 09

Great Picture
I bought this TV because it had an LED back-lit panel. The picture is brilliant, the colors pop out. The view is good from almost any angle. It generates very little heat. It was the best price performance LED LCD we could find. I wasn't disappointed. As an extra, the delivery man was courteous and helped me place it and test it.

ViewSonic 22" VLED221wm widescreen LCD features a mercury-free LED backlight that requires less power than a standard 22" LCD but produces more brilliant color and crystal-clear images. 118% OptiColor NTSC Technology and Super-HD 1680x1050 resolution deliver precision color rendition, while the 16 to 10 widescreen panel allows users to work in two documents or applications side-by-side. Unmatched 12000 to 1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio (typ) further supports the VLED221wm excellent front-of-screen performance with the blackest blacks and whitest whites. OptiSync digital and analog inputs and integrated speakers expand this display multimedia versatility. Gamers, financial professionals, graphic designers and home office users will love the performance and style of the VLED221wm.

On/Off button is bad
I've used 2 of these monitors for less than a year and was pretty happy with them, but I use them only for work. I knew the on/off button was a cheap little thing when I first turned it on (lights up blue when on). Now after less tham a year (about 9 months), it pushed in so far you can't use it anymore. It is down below the surface. Just waiting for the other one to go. It's a good thing it did it with the monitor on or I wouldn't be able to turn it on - it would be "stuck" on off. Cheaply made for the money.

ViewSonic VLED221wm
ViewSonic's VLED221wm 22-inch LCD is the first LED-backlit display to grace our Lab, and we were anxious to put the technology to the test. LCD monitors typically sport cold cathode fluorescent backlighting, which can be less than uniform, and because it's always on in the background, it can impair a screen's ability to produce a true black. With LEDs, the screen is backlit with a grid of lights that can be turned on and off as needed. Sure enough, the 1680x1050 VLED221wm was capable of a black that exceeded that of any other LCD we've tested--but the result was actually overkill.
Even after we cranked the brightness to the max, we were unable to elicit an acceptable separation of values at the dark end of the spectrum in our DisplayMate tests. This lack of separation resulted in a noticeable loss of detail in games and movies.
The VLED221wm also notably boasts a 118 percent color gamut--based on NTSE broadcast standards--whereas LCDs have traditionally achieved a 72 percent color gamut, and more recently 92 percent. The expanded color gamut allows the VLED221wm to display extraordinarily saturated colors; the word "vibrant" doesn't do justice to the eye-punishing reds, greens, and blues this monitor spits out. In our tests, it made photos appear unnatural and game graphics looked over-processed; however, we appreciated the added vibrancy in movies.
By default, the monitor comes with its Dynamic Contrast feature on, which adjusts the backlighting on the screen according to the content being displayed to achieve the darkest black and brightest white whenever possible. But the implementation here is pretty poor--during our movie test, the light faded in and out during different scenes. Fortunately, the feature can be disabled, although we had to dig through the manual to find out how--hold the monitor's up-arrow button for a few seconds.
Given its spendy price point compared to fellow 22-inch monitors, ViewSonic's VLED221wm just isn't a wise choice. The concept of "true black" is a strong selling point, but not when it results in perceptible quality loss.
+ It does have an 118% color gamut. And the blacks are indeed very black.
- Too dark, with garish colors.
Verdict: 5 out of 10

OH SO NICE!
I am a digital color specialist for a printing company where I mainly focus on image color correction and retouch. In my job I have had at my disposal top of the line equipment and when I decided to purchase a new LCD for my personal use I found only this one display that reached my attention. This display is only slightly less than the professional LED backlit displays by other companies and at a much lower price! I calibrated it with a spyder pro 2 and I just can not believe how beautiful it is. I am not going to be playing games or watching too many movies on it but for image work it is better than the 30" HD display that I currently have at my job.

Eye Candy
This monitor produces the most beautiful color I've ever seen! I love the deep reds. There is also no edge bleed, and I view it in total darkness most of the time.
I agree with the above reviewer, you should turn off the dynamic contrast. It does more harm than good.
There is one more setting you may want to try. DVDs looked terrible at first. The colors were extremely exaggerated, the whites were blown out, and the highlights were pixilated. I tried all the adjustments on my video card and DVD software to no avail. Then I decided to read the manual (what a concept!). It turned out to be the default color setting of 6500K. I set it to sRGB, and my jaw hit the floor. It put my Sony GDM-FW900 to shame. Just beautiful!
Close, but no cigar. This monitor shows artifacts that where previously masked by my FW900. I spent the next few evenings tweaking FFDshow, and now I have a picture that far exceeds my expectations.
I waited a long time for an LED backlit monitor to become available. I'm glad I waited!

Great for the price, however, the screws it came with sucked, you'll have to go out and buy better ones. Works great!

Looks good, does the job
I am using this mount for a 27" LCD in my bedroom. Using a swivel mount with tilt works great for almost any room layout. The black powder-coat paint matches the TV, and looks great. Adjustment and locking is easy with the included hex wrench. I would rate this "5 stars" if the mounting screws were better. Made from relatively soft steel, the screw head strips very easily. After ruining one screw, I replaced it with a large black deck screw. It might be advisable to drill small pilot holes before attempting to drive the screws.
Word of caution: If you do not drive the proper mounting screws into the center of a wall stud, if you exceed the specified TV weight limit, or if you try to get by with a really cheap swing arm mount, you may be signing a death sentence for your $500 TV (and perhaps yourself)!

Great unit especially for the price.
I used this mount for an LG 32 inch LCD so it only needed to hold 30lbs which it is doing no problem. I am only able to screw in two of the four screws to the back, but it seems to work just fine. I saw in the other reviews complaints about the bolts and the need to make sure you mount the unit level as it does not adjust to compensate in that manor. I think they must have addressed these problems because the bolts provided are sturdy and the tv has some play to compensate for any mistakes in mounting.

Great price and loving it
Cheapest price we could find for wall mount designed for our new tv. We can turn the tv toward the sofa or toward the kitchen, press it against the wall, or pull it out. One thing to keep in mind is that the tv is only flush witht he wall when the arm is off to the side, so centering the base on the wall won't center the tv.
