Customer Review :
Very pleased and surprised
I did plenty of research on this TV and it has surpased all my expectations. This set has 2 hdmi slots and included is a 6ft hdmi cable. The owners manual is on cd but if you own any amount of newer electronic equipment is is no big deal. Very easy to make all the adjustments, color, tint, temp. It has a bright blue led standby light that makes for a nice nightlite but it can be disabled. I hooked it up to a HD antenna and the picture is superb. I have a 55" Sony and it is every bit as good. Very easy to program the hd channels and gives you a strength signal as it goes through the program. I would definatley recommend this product, watch for the deals I got mine for under $500. Olevia is on the rise in the LCD market

Absolute waste of money!
I would not recommend this product to anyone! Within five months, the tv was shutting itself off and on several times a day. The manufacturer told us to upload new software from their site. We did, and the set would no longer turn on at all. We asked them for a replacement set. They said they would send a refurbished or out of the box replacement. (The 1 year warranty wouldn't start over, either.) We weren't too happy about that, but thought it was better than nothing. Three weeks, and a dozen phone calls later, and we still don't have a tv. Customer service has been quite rude and unhelpful, and will only refund our purchase at a prorated rate. You have got to be kidding! ~ I wish we had checked out The Better Business Bureau on this company before purchasing.

Reburbished Indication
I did not realize this TV was refurbished until the box/tv was delivered. I believe the advertisement was somewhat deceptive, and at best not clear. The TV started right up but with no warrenty it's a crap shoot.

Worked fine just out of the box, very happy with the purchase
We installed our TV last night and overall we are very happy with our purchase. We took advantage of the sale at Target and after applying for their credit card, the price was way too attractive.
I haven't adjusted any settings (even the ones recommended in quick reference manual) yet. Will do those things as time permits and will update this review if I come across something significant.
I connected an existing cheap rabbit ears antenna to the TV and it scanned and found numerous SD and HD channels. HD off the air reception is just wonderful.
This TV has only one antenna input. We have cable (no HD) coming out from co-axial cable and this rabbit ears antenna that also connects to the antenna via co-axial. Fortunately, I had a co-axial cable splitter (Y) and it worked perfectly. I connected cable output and antenna output to each of the inputs of Y splitter and connected the output of Y to TV. When I set the TV to the channel where cable is coming, TV automatically switches to cable channels and then I use cable remote to change the cable channels.
Standard definition programs: SD, on the other hand, was worse than our 10-year old 27" CRT TV on some channels. What is interesting is, the advertisements looked very sharp, bright, and colorful. Programs themselves were mediocre. It is possible that the channels we tried either weren't recorded with best quality or not transmitted at best quality. I have to see how I can improve the quality of SD programs. We really don't want to subscribe to HD cable.
HD Off-the-air programs: Way more than satisfactory to my eyes. If you go to a store and compared the screen of 237H to some other brand/model, you may find this inferior. Other brands "may be" really good or may be they were just setup that way on display. But, you will be very happy that you saved hundreds of $ since picture quality seems wonderful at home. (We also have a 61" Samsung HD DLP TV in the living room. So, I do know what to expect from a HD TV.)
Panorama mode aspect: Panorama mode is disappointing on 237H. (Panorama mode streatches 4:3 picture to 16:9 in such a way that people and things in the middle of the picture don't look fat and stretched. The way they do it is by keeping the picture in the middle intact and streching progressively on the left and right sides of the picture.) Panorama mode on our main TV (DLP) is really smooth and we use it a lot, but on 237H it is very bad. I am not sure if we will ever use that aspect mode. The problem in 237H is that it looks like we are watching the TV through a fish bowl.
Other: I have read some people complain that channel switching is slow. I haven't noticed anything like that. It worked fine for me.
My TV has 2 HDMI inputs - I have read elsewhere that some people got only one HDMI input.
The TV came with one HDMI cable, one power cable, quick reference poster, remote control + batteries, and a CD ROM. Manual is only in CD ROM - no book is supplied. You will be able to find the manual of 237V (almost identical TV) on the Internet.
When the TV is powered off, a bright blue LED light comes on and it goes off when the TV is powered on. It is way too bright in the bed room; I have to cover it up with some tape. In a living room, it may act like a night light.
It was very easy to setup - took me less than one hour to take down existing TV, place this TV, make all the connections, perform basic initial setup, and start watching (enjoying) the programs.
Update 6/15/2007: Setup menu allows to disable (turn off) the bright blue LED in the front. No PIP buttons on the remote; you have to use setup menu to control PIP. Based on some threads on forums elsewhere on the Internet, PIP function has limitations. Yes, you can view the picture for full 178 degrees, but the picture quality starts deteriorate as you move away from the front. Still enjoying the product very much and very happy with the purchase.
Update 6/18/2007: Standard definition picture quality is now acceptable after setting noise reduction to high and iDEA setting to black level control.
Update 7/3/2007: My camera (Canon S2 IS) can shoot excellent video in VGA (640x480) resolution. When I play the video on my other DLP TV, it would stretch the video to fit the screen and blur the picture. 237T supports a display aspect called 1:1 which will show the video as it is without any stretching. I like this feature a lot - even though the picture size becomes small, the quality is very pleasing.

Withholding Judgement
I bought the TV from Target.com and got the set in a reasonable amount of time. I have a problem that makes me withhold judgment. It shuts down periodically, no power at all. I can hear the transformer powering up and down so I think it's a thermal problem.
Called Olevia and they suggested I return it. I just went through the replacement process so I'll be working through that process.
While it has been working (about 45 minutes at a time) I really like the picture and it's auto scan did a good job on my cable (analog and digital). If not for the power-down I'd rate the TV very high. And the channels do change slowly, but a lot better than on my ReplayTV.

Customer Review :
Just about perferfect
This TV looks great, sounds fantastic, and has a stunning picture - in HD anyway. The regular standard-def picture is ok, but seems a little pixelated or "artifacty". This could be from the cable company and/or the TV's upresing. Either way I really only try to watch the HD - as I mentioned it's stunning.
I wish it had an additional HDMI port, but I don't need it yet. It would also be nice if they somehow hid an additional RCA video input on the fromt of the monitor, so I don't have to mess around with the giant panel of inputs in the back just to hook up my video camera.
It's amazing how even though the screen is so big, thee flatness of the TV actually makes it seem to take up less room than my older, smaller CRT TV.
Sturdy and beautiful all-around.

Biggest problem with this TV - low speaker volume
I've owned this TV for over a year. It works very well if this is the size you can use (I prefer a larger screen and will move it to a bedroom, eventually). I will not articulate all the features that are covered so well by other Reviewers. But beware a few glaring irritations.
1) Low speaker volume. Try all you want. There's no way to raise the speaker volume to a high-enough level to be heard over ambient noises in a household setting -- and I live alone! I am researching add-on third speaker units, right now. But at the cost most of them run I may decide on a new TV, instead.
2) Weird power loss and reset issues. I've never experienced such a bewildering issue of losing control over a TV due to a power outage or brown-out. I'm sure it's a built-in safety factor. But periodically the TV has to be completely unplugged, then reconnected and reset to resume normal operations. I attribute this to local power outages in the neighborhood. But it completely mystifies me. And I have it plugged into a surge protector. Nothing else on that protector is affected in this way.
3) Limited controls. The Mitsubishi HDTV that this one replaced had far greater controls available for tweaking the picture quality, etc. Maybe I'm expecting too much on a 37" LCD. For $1200 to $1700 Retail, I wanted more.
However, I must add, at the time I bought this LCD I compared it side-by-side to others on the market and felt it had the best picture, with the most-natural skin tones, etc. The Sony ran a very close second but was selling at a price well above the Sharp.
Here's a hint for those comparing between LCD and Plasma: To me, Plasma looks a lot sharper (especially the Panasonic), but if you have glare from overhead lights or windows, choose the LCD format. For some reason, they are now touting LCD screens with glass shields in front to get that glossy look, which they claim increases the picture quality. It seems to be defeating one of the strongest reasons for buying an LCD, to me. On the rear-screen projection Mitsubishi that I owned (53" screen), the main selling point was I could remove the clear acrylic protective shield and gain the sweet non-glare look of an exposed LCD-like viewing experience. You may notice that a lot of your friends mount their Plasmas up high on a wall and then tilt them downward. I think it's because they are trying -- in part -- to avoid that glare. Most people coming late from the traditional TV experience don't even realize the best advantages of LCD -- the lack of irritating reflections.

nice form factor, good looking picture
This is a nice looking TV - I have this in my home sitting on a mantle over a fireplace. The picture is great, though I think it does suffer from the same issue as most LCD displays - black levels that could be more black. This is especially apparent when viewing a movie in the dark.
Also, oddly, it seems as though the volume control is ignored for the first few seconds the TV is turned on. This can be a problem if the set is turned on and the volume is too loud for the time of day (perhaps others in the house are sleeping).

Better now, but still expensive
I love this TV. Bought it for $1750 (floor model). Had an initial problem with the TV turning itself on and having a frozen screen where we couldn't shut it off unless we unplugged it. We called SHARP and they contacted a local repairman to come out and fix it. I guess this is a common problem with this model. The repairman came out yesterday and said he's already done this "firmware upgrade" to 15 others like ours. Hopefully this will solve our problem. Otherwise it's awesome. Great visually and has a lot of options. We're in Indianapolis and are dropping our cable bc with a roof antenna we get our local channels in HD. Looks much better than cable! Only gets 4 stars bc the price is still outrageous on technology is that supposed to be mainstream. Not everyone has $2k to drop on a TV.

Problem with remote
I agree with other reviewers that this set is excellent for viewing. In the last few months, though, we've started having problems with the remote. When the set is first turned on only the on/off feature will work for about five minutes from ten feet away. When we move to within a couple feet the remaining features start working, and after the short wait period. We've changed the batteries several times and made sure the send and receive ports are not blocked to no avail. We've had the set just over a year and no other problems. We've no children or pets that chew on these things. I just emailed Sharp customer service describing the problem and haven't heard anything back. One way to troubleshoot this would be to buy a universal remote and see if it works any different. So far the nuisance factor hasn't driven us to do anything else. I'm prompted to write this because several reviewers noted what seems to be a remote control problem.

Nice idea, but poor quality
Nice idea. Overpriced for what it is. Didn't last very long. Broke after less than one year.

Works Great
Took the place of a missing switched outlet on the back of a receiver. Does exactly what it is supposed to do.

Another "worked briefly, then broke" story
We get squeezed like a bar rag every month by SDG&E in San Diego, so I bought this going to the ends of the earth trying to bring down triple-digit electricity bills. It worked OK for a couple of months, then suddenly it wouldn't power off devices anymore no matter how I tweaked the sensitivity. After reading more recent reviews here--it looks like people having problems with this device are streaming in.
I wouldn't buy this--obviously it's totally unreliable and $30+ down the drain.

Was great for a week
I bought this to use in my office. I have a PC with two monitors, two printers and assorted other peripherals. I have the PC plugged into the main outlet, so when I power down the PC everything else goes off. It worked great for a week. But now when I shut down the computer everything seems to shut down but, then all of the peripherals start cycling on and off, on and off. So now I shut the strip down manually using the toggle switch after the PC shuts down.
Disappointing.
I have an electric heater plugged into a different outlet, thought there might be some power surge issue but I have been turning off the heater prior to turning off the PC and it makes no difference.
I don't think there is anything with my PC that would be causing this, so I can only conclude that the power strip isn't so smart after all.

Question : A sudden power outage caused my LG LCD TV to shut off.
When it was turned back on the reception was poor, and the picture was full of snow. Some channels are not there anymore. Can you Help
Answer:
It sounds like the power surge when the electricity came back on fried the tv. Did you have a surge protector on the tv If so, you can file a claim with the maker of the protector for reimbursement for the dead tv.Otherwise, try unplugging it for a while, replug it and see if anything happens.

Question : My LCD TV 37 inch keeps shutting off on me HELP
I have had a 37 In. LCD TV from Toshiba for about 2 years now. It has a built in DVD player. When I go to turn it on to watch tv, it shuts off on its own as if someone else had a remote near by and was playing games with me. I have ruled that out as no neighbors have Toshiba products. It comes back on after about 15 seconds. The led light that shows there is a dvd in the player (but there is no dvd in the unit) flashes 3 times, in a series of 3, then attempts to come on. Sometimes it does, other times it wont. It is very frustrating HELP:)
