Questions & Answers
Question : How close can my LCD HDTV be to my large home stereo speakers?
I have a rather small living room and I am wondering how close my LCD HDTV can be to my large home stereo speakers. When I move our older (non HD) TV too close (about 12") to our home stereo speakers the screen gets green spots and distortion. I am wondering if being too close to a large speaker will hurt or interfere with the HDTV. Thanks!
Answer:
LCD TVs are not affected by magnets. Put the speakers where you want. You only have to worry about magnetic fields with CRT (Picture Tube) TVs.

Question : Should I buy a 40 inch LCD HDTV from Sony or Samsung?
I am about to go to buy my new HDTV and I have narrowed it down to 2. The Sony Bravia LCD HDTV is $629 and the Samsung is $679. They both look very similar to me yet I have not seen the picture quality of either. Has anybody ever owned either of these two sets? What do you think about it? Thanks alot for any input.
Answer:
sony.......now go get the TV............NOW!

Question : What is the difference and pros and con between a flat panel HDTV and a LCD HDTV?
With all other aspects being about the same except price, I was trying to compare a 40" Sony flat panel to a Sony LCD of the same dimensions. Which one has a better picture or some quality that makes it noticeably better than the other? Due to not presently being able to view them side by side in a store, I am trying to compare what I can via online shopping. Your response doesn't have to address Sony brand, but rather HDTV Flat panel to HDTV LCD. Thanks.
Answer:
LCD is a type of flat panel HDTV. I guess you mean LCD vs Plasma. Here are some pros & cons of themPros of Plasma- Better contrast ratio- better ability to render deep blacks, more color depth, - better motion tracking (response time)- more availability in very large screen sizes. Cons of Plasma - more susceptible to burn-in (although this is not as much of a factor now, due to technology improvements in the past few years)- more heat generation (as well as more power consumption)- screen glare in brightly lit rooms- heavier weight, and more delicate to ship. Good brand that I would recommend for Plasma is Panasonic or Samsunghttp://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie% 3DUTF8%26redirect%3Dtrue%26ref%255F%3Dsr%255Fnr%255Fp%255Fn%255Ffeature%255Fthree%255Fbr%255F1%26bbn %3D979929011%26qid%3D1257710394%26rnid%3D724226011%26rh%3Dn%253A172282%252Cn%253A%2521493964%252Cn%2 53A1266092011%252Cn%253A172659%252Cn%253A979929011%252Cp%255Fn%255Ffeature%255Fthree%255Fbrowse-bin% 253A724228011&tag=ad107-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957Pros of LCD- LCD television advantages include no burn-in susceptibility- cooler running- less screen glare, more functional at high altitudes- longer display life (although improvements are being made in Plasma screen life)- looks better in brightly lit rooms- less power consumption than Plasma. Cons of LCD- Lower contrast ratio- not as good rendering deep blacks- not as good at tracking motion (although this is improving, especially with the implementation of 120Hz refresh rates (and some now offer 240Hz) on higher-end models). Good brand for LCD that I would recommend is Samsung or Sonyhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DU TF8%26node%3D724227011%252C979929011%26ref%255F%3Dce%255F500%255Fftlc1&tag=ad107-20&linkCode=ur2&cam p=1789&creative=390957

Question : Why do I confuse my LCD HDTV with the plasma TV we have in the living room?
Why do I confuse my LCD HDTV with the 42 inch plasma we have in the living room. Why do I always get to thinking that my LCD HDTV is a plasma TV when I am watching my TV in my room,I have an Insignia 32 inch(NS-L32X-10A) 1080p and I always feel like I am watching a plasma TV,why is that?
Answer:
LCD TV and plasma TV are the two different type of TV . plasma TV is a very huge up about 50inch , as LCD are smaller TV not more than 40inch . and the lifespans of Plasma TV also slighly shorter and power rating also higher than LCD TV , this is what I knew so far .

Question : How do I attach my Dell Laptop to my Polaroid LCD HDTV?
I have a Dell Latitude D820 laptop and recently just purchased a Polaroid 26" LCD HDTV. I was told at circuit city that I would be able to hook up my laptop to the tv monitor without having to purchase any additional attachments. But from observing the cords that came with the tv and those that I have with my laptop it doesnt seem possible. Anyone know how to hook it up?
Answer:
Most likely you will have an s-video or composite(rca) output from your laptop. Youll need to buy the cable to run from the laptop to the tv.

Question : do i still need a converter box or special cable connection to get local channels on an lcd hdtv?
We just bought a phillips lcd hdtv. We had dish sattlelight but no longer have it. What connections do we need to get basic channels?
Answer:
As long as your new TV says it has a built in tuner you should be fine. All ya need is an antenna.http://www.amazon.com/Terk-Amplified-High-Definition-Antenna-Reception/dp/B0007MXZB2/ref=sr_ 1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1250996299&sr=8-1

Question : How do I connect my computer with my LCD HDTV using D-Sub cable?
I have Compaq Presario V6000 and Samsung LN-S4695 LCD HDTV. I connected my PC to TV using D-Sub cable, and then I tried to view my PC through TV. Problem is my TV doesn't accept the connection (for some reason), and my TV displays "Not Supported Mode". I tried in various options by using FN key and F4 on keyboard. Please help me with this!
Answer:
plug your computer into your normal monitor. change the resolution to 800 x 600. then make sure your refresh rate is 60 hertz. unplug the dsub connector from the back of your monitor. plug it into your lcd panel;s dsub connector. then adjust the resolution to the maximum allowed by your television. it should be 1920 x 1080. main thing is to make sure your refresh rate on your computer does not exceed the refresh rate on the monitor.

Question : LCD HDTV do i need a converter box and antenna?
I have an lcd hdtv by magnavox. I do not have cable and want to be able to watch tv. Do i need an antenna or just the converter box to pick up local channels? I am a little confused on what exactly the converter box is able to do.
Answer:
If your TV is an HDTV (and not a "HD ready" TV), you just need to attach a TV antenna to it and have the TV scan for digital antenna channels. (Hint: if there is no place in the TVs menu to scan for digital channels, it doesn't have a digital tuner and isn't a "HDTV".)A HDTV already has a digital (ATSC) tuner built into it. A "HD ready" TV doesn't have a digital tuner built into it and would need a converter box or HD tuner to receive digital broadcasts.A converter box is connected between an antenna and older TVs. The box takes the digital signals that the antenna picks up (ATSC) and "converts" one of them to the older analog type (NTSC) that non-digital TVs can understand. The only reason that you might want to connect a converter box to a HDTV is if the converter has a better tuner than the one that's built into the HDTV. What kind of antenna you need depends on where you live. In North America all TV antennas can pick up digital broadcasts, so feel free to attach any old TV antenna that you have and give it a try.
