One of the problems with home-theater surround sound is finding the space to place 6 speakers in a room. It can be a challenge. Sony's HT-CT100 converts the surround experience to 3.1 channels and uses only 2 speakers, a subwoofer and a SoundBar. The SoundBar is placed like a center channel speaker directly over the TV. Speakers within the bar radiate at different angles to deliver center, left, and right channels through a spatially enhanced soundfield. With 50 Watts to each channel + 100 Watts directly to subwoofer, the system delivers 250 watts total. Featuring HDMI - Component Video - Optical A/V ports, you can connect your TV and DVD or Blu-Ray player directly to the system. It's the simplest, most streamlined way to enjoy home-theater surround.
LPCM Playback - LPCM is a method of encoding audio information digitally which can have up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio. This wider bandwidth allows for high resolution audio which is closer to the original 3 Optical, 1-Coax Dolby Digital/DTS/ProLogic

Best Deal in Theater Sound - Period
We purchased this sound system to enhance our new Samsung 650 HDTV. We did not want 5 speakers or wires everywhere. We were led to this particular sound system by Consumer Reports. Suffice it to say this is the best deal in surround sound bar none. A relative has a $1000 system and this system outperforms his in all categories. My son is buying one to replace his 5-speaker system! You will not be disappointed.

Good value, but not true surround
After reading the reviews of various products I decided this was a good fit for me because (a) it doesn't require running a bunch of wires; (b) it consolidates several HDMI devices; (c) price was reasonable. Our room isn't huge so I had hopes that I'd get a good "surround" feel from this, but not so. The sound quality is good, the bass is much better than it was with just TV (Sony KDF-42-WEGA 655) sound, but it's not like having real rear speakers.

This is a great, affordable unit!
Reading through all of the other reviews here just goes to show that a company could make the greatest product in the world and there would be naysayers ready to trash it at the drop of a hat. That somewhat applies to the Sony HT-CT100. I have had mine for approximately one month and am very pleased overall. I wanted to wait to write a review until I had an adequate amount of time to fairly evaluate it. The people who returned theirs quickly are idiots. They obviously did not put it through it's paces before giving up on it. This soundbar package is perfect for blu-rays in particular. My unit is in a 25 x 20 foot room and fills it nicely with sound. The subwoofer especially, is absolutely amazing. Probably where others have criticized the unit legitimately is in regard to the analog inputs. The sound is muffled and low when any source is connected in that manner. Standard definition, HDMI connected dvd soundtracks are not impressive, probably because the sound is so compressed on them. Blu-rays are a completely different story however. Explosions, gunshots, crashes, etc. are very lifelike and loud. Even the high def cable signal sounds good if connected with the included optical cable or HDMI. You also need to tweak the sound settings to your preference depending on the source you have connected at any given time. Don't be afraid to adjust the center channel and sub volumes to your liking, as well as utilizing the included sound field settings. Be sure to also adjust the audio and video settings on your dvd and blu-ray players as well because that makes a huge difference. As long as you don't connect an analog source or watch too many standard dvd's, this is an amazing home theater product. Make no mistake, this is built for blu-ray. If blu-ray is your preference, don't delay. Pick one of these up pronto because you won't be disappointed. I got mine for $200 and believe me, that was a steal.

For the price..
I was looking for a bar system and had almost pulled the trigger on the mega expensive Polk Audio system that would have cost over $1000. I gave this system a shot first since it was so cheap it seemed silly not to at least test it out. I've been using it for 3 months now and am still impressed. I do not have a large living room so I can't speak to that, but for a medium sized room this sounds perfect. The surround DOES work and feels like the movie is happening on all sides and behind me. Playing COD4 has never been the same either, I can actually hear the enemy creeping up on me from any direction and pinpoint them. For the price, it can NOT be beat!

Powerful Bass, Rich Sound, Classy Design -- All On The Cheap
Having purchased this unit on Black Friday, I've gotten to use it for a month now, and the bottom line is this: if you are sick of low-quality sound from your current set-up (be it an old home theater system or those terrible television speakers) and want to experience rich, deep sound in a small package, then this system from Sony is perfect. Audiophiles can turn up their noses -- or cover their ears, or whatever -- but there is little not to like about this bad boy, and you will be impressed.
Setup is gloriously simple: hook up everything you have via HDMI (or optical) to the sub, which doubles as a receiver, and connect an HDMI from the TV Out on the sub to the TV. Done.
The sound is wonderful. Treble and high notes are crisp and defined from the center speaker, which is so small and unobtrusive that it practically blends in with my television set. Left and right are audibly differentiated, so if something whizzes across the screen you'll know it. The soundbar itself is tuned so well that it even delivers a hint of surround sound -- quite a feat considering, there are no rear speakers! Admittedly, however, you must be sitting within a narrow cone to achieve this magic effect... but when it happens, it's incredible.
The real anchor of this system however, and what keeps me coming back to watch movies every night, is the subwoofer. It is a monolith, at nearly the size of a desktop PC, but classy-looking with a neat little blue display; it's also rather heavy. It ideally should be positioned to the right of the television to provide the best sound, but I have mine on the left just three inches away from a TV stand. And you know what? The bass still frightens me, because explosions explode. If there's anyone out there who's never bought a home-theater system, you're really missing out on exploding explosions. Choppers sound like they're about to land in your living room, and dinosaurs sound like they'll leap off the screen. Even newscasters sound great, folks. NEWSCASTERS. To me, World News Tonight will never sound the same again.
What keeps this system from getting five stars, though? The problem comes actually from some of its advantages: -Since the display is only on the subwoofer, you can't exactly hide the subwoofer behind the television set, which may be a problem for some if they cannot find a suitable place to put such a big device. - The bass and ambient lows sometimes diminishes dialogue -- a problem that can be remedied by changing the settings of the device (for instance, set the center speaker higher, set the subwoofer lower). -But upping the center narrows the magic cone of rear surround sound somewhat, so you must strike a balance. - Loud sounds sometimes are too loud while soft sounds are not nearly as pronounced. However, this problem is often rectified by using HDMI and optical cables, along with sound sources that are actually 5.1 Dolby Digital (most HD channels), and not 2.0, which has to be convertified by Prologic II. -Sometimes it wakes the neighbors.
Nevertheless, for around two hundred to three hundred bucks, this system is unbeatable. Its shortcomings are far, far outpaced by its stellar design, rich sound, deep bass, beautiful design -- and obscenely low price. I got mine for $199! Quite frankly, it's worth way more.

Great system
This is a great system if you don't want the hassle of setting up a home theater system. However, you do need a separate subwoofer if you want to optimize the bass.
I do have a complaint regarding Amazon's price match policy. Apparently, Amazon has stopped matching their own prices as of September 2008. The price for this system went down $60.00 in three weeks.
So, If you buy from them and they lower the price, you're out of luck!!

HDMI vs Optical Audio Input
I am looking to assemble a HDTV, Blu-Ray player and speaker set that will last me for the next 3 - 5 years. I was initially drawn to this speaker based on reviews, but have one question.
It is my impression that the speaker itself is awesome, but that the lack of an HDMI in/out compromises the potential of the speaker to deliver the best sound from an HD source. In other words, sound coming from a Blu-Ray or cable box loses some signal through the digital optical cable, which would otherwise not happen with an HDMI cable. Could people please comment/educate? Is the lack of HDMI inputs the reason for the drastic price reduction?
I have not had a chance to compare audio coming out of optical audio vs HDMI, and so do not have a basis to establish if holding out for HDMI is worth the extra money that that might entail.
Thank you.

Good deal on product
Yamaha YSP-1100BL Digital Sound Projector I previously owned a YSP-800 and find this model far superior in 'filling the room with sound'. And at a price of $432.00 marked down from $1699.00 a great deal for the money. The remote could use some improvement but is adequate for the task.

Guys, at this price, don't walk, RUN for it!
I did not purchase mine from Amazon, but after setting it up and comparing it my $20K (that ain't no typo, folks) system in our a/v room, I was absolutely amazed at the sound quality of the projector. Yes, it does require a sub and a square or rectangular room with few/no obstructions, but it is not extremely picky about that (the room ours is located in is rectangular, but also with a half wall separating the room from a stairway and it works incredibly). Try "We Were Soldiers" or "The Fifth Element" and listen to the amazing spaciousness and realism this bad boy projects. At $432 this is a remarkable deal and I am seriously considering buying another as soon as I can figure out a use for it!

Great Yamaha YSP-1100BL Digital Sound Projector
I recommend that you place this under a 42" Tv or larger with placing it under your tv. I also recommend that you calibrate the speaker to obtain the best results. It works best for me hooking it directly up to my Blu Ray Player vs just hooking it up to the Tv by itself. Finally this speaker needs a sub woofer to obtain the low base sounds that will add much joy to your movie watching.

Introducing a complete home theater audio solution for people who crave true cinema excitement without breaking the bank - the RM6750. The integrated Power Port Bass Vent designed right onto the back of the compact Satellite and Center Channel speakers - the same technology used in full-sized Polk Audio speakers - improves lower midrange response and all-important sub/sat blending, taking the RM6750 beyond the performance realm of any other sub/sat system in this price range. This integrated design reveals midrange with no "hole" in the frequencies between the sats and the sub, for male vocals that are rich and full-not thin and weak like other sub/sat systems. The RM6750 comes with its own subwoofer module, an 8 inch long throw driver and high current power amplifier for real ground-shaking bass thrills.

Out of the box perfection
If there is better sound to be had, I cannot hear it. The speakers are placed per instruction recommendations and connected to an Onkyo receiver.
No speaker noise, clear sound through receiver, tv, dvd. Balance for surround sound was easy and trouble free.
Perfect for my DIY requirements for great sound from radio, HD TV, DVD or CD. Price was far below what I expected to pay for quality sound.

Heads up
I'm a 1st timer with surround systems so I tried to be carful about selecting a system. I went to the big box shops to listen to different systems and before I made the purchase but most of them had limited systems set-up and half of those weren't working. Anyway the system sounds great! I really only use the surround for movies and use the center fill for general tv watching. You'll need to purchase speaker wire and depending on how you configure a long rca cable for the sub since no wires come in the box. Make sure that the sub is powered from you amp. If you don't you'll need to turn off the sub when not in use aor you'll get a low buzzing.

Excellent buy for the price
For $230 I think it is a great system (with a powered subwoofer !!!). It mates with my Yamaha RX-V663 and delivers the best it can offer. Since I have not tried any other speaker system to compare I have given it 4 stars.

Great for the money
I previously owned a HTIB system for several years, but decided to go all blu ray and hi def. After a lot of research from amazon, cnet, and best buy I decided to go with these speakers. Just today I hooked them up with the sony DG920 receiver, and together they sound amazing! No fuzz, no hiss, just pure great sound. These are about 400-500 dollar speakers elsewhere, and for just over 200 including shipping they are an absolute steal.

Who Need's Bose???
I recently upgraded my system with a new receiver and needed some new speakers to complement them. I wanted the Bose Acoustimass speakers forever but couldn't bear dropping a G on them. I also wanted to stay in the "bookshelf" size speaker as it suited my set up better. So I decided to try these for less than half the price of the Bose. I figured I could return them if they didn't thrill me. Short story....they did.
I was floored by the fullness of the sound. They hit the highs, mids, and lows like a champ. I like to use the action bits on Terminator 3 to test out new recievers and speakers and these really impressed me with a huge wall of sound. I knew they were good when I got excited while watching a movie I'd seen so many times before. It was almost like listening to it for the first time. I also popped in some cd's and I swear I heard things in some of my music that I've never heard before.
I'd heard those Bose speakers a dozen times at Comp USA and Best Buy and really do feel these are better for a full sound. The Bose do the highs an mids really well but not the lows. These are designed to be the total package with their horn/tweeter design and they certainly perform as such. They can actually be used without a subwoofer, which is good for people who don't like the booming and rumbling that subs provide. Klipsch suggest their own subs(of course) but I felt the price was a little rich for my blood, so I use a $100 Sony powered sub and it works just fine.
They look and feel like they're made from good quality materials. In fact, I accidently dropped one from 2 1/2 feet onto a wooden floor (oops) and it was completely intact without any marks and still works perfectly. The posts on the back of the speakers make speaker wire attachment a snap. You just unscrew the cap, the wire goes through the middle of the post, then you tighten the cap back down. No problemo. A great feature. They also make placement and mounting easy as you can sit them on a shelf, like in the picture, or flip the stand part back to mount on a wall. They also pivot to point in most any angle you'd want. The center speaker doesn't though.
There are only a couple of slight negatives here. The center speaker sounds a little boxey. It could use some more treble as it leans a little more towards the mid range. Since the majority of dialog comes from the center speaker, I wanted a little more sharpness. This is minor though and doesn't hinder the experience at all. The other is the balancing. Pairing them with my new reciever to find the best sound was a bit tricky. Again, these are very slight negatives and shouldn't deter you from looking into these fabulous speakers. I'm just trying to be as honest as I can here. I never once thought of returning them though.
Klipsch has a great reputation in the audio world and touts these as their best selling compact speaker system. These are a great deal for the price as they sound huge and like they should cost alot more. If you're starting to get serious about your audio for your home theater, there's nothing else out there that's gonna top these at their size and price. Believe me, I looked.

Better than Bose for less
Recently was over a friend's house and noticed that he had a Bose system and was impressed with the sound. I had a Sony HTIB set up that I was not too crazy about but had to compromise because my wife is particular on how things look and will compromise perfomance. I decided to upgrade my system, but I wanted to do this without spending Bose money. I went with a Yamaha RX-V663 receiver and paired it with the Klipsch speakers. The results were beyond my expectations. The clarity of the sound was outstanding. The lows really come thru these speakers well. My wife's jaw dropped when she heard the results. I recommend people to do the research and check out these speakers. Most people see the name "Bose" and buy into the name because of there exposure on TV and magazine adds. I believe I have better sound than a bose system for a fraction of the cost.

Quintet III
I bought this from Ebay brand new for only about 359.00 dollars. What's nice is that even at a low volume you can hear a full range of sound. High end sound for a low end price. I'm sure if you have a very large living room you can stick all four speakers in the rear for 7.1 and buy a pair of large floor Klipsch speakers for the Front Right and Left. Perhaps a larger center channel if you're more than 10-15 feet from your screen. For my apartment living room these are perfect though. As I run on I should also mention that the built wall mounts are awesome! You can tilt the rear speakers inward if your couch is against the wall.

MILLION DOLLAR SOUND FOR PENNIES
You will not belive your ears. For the price you cannot get better sound. ou will need to spend 5 times or more to match, let alone beat the sound qualty. Sub is powered and all the speakers look great. They will look great on stands or on end tables like I have them. They are 6 ohms which means they need more power than 8 ohms speakers to get same result. I have them with yamaha 463 receiver and they sound great. I'am very happy.

This product is excellent!! I hooked it up and it sounds great. Definitely worth it for how cheap it is! The subwoofer supplies tons of power! I hooked it up to a 190 dollar sony receiver so that may be why it sounds great but i recommend this to anyone!!

Best bang for your buck...
For the price I didn't expect much from these speakers, and when I got them they definitely exceeded my expectations. I have always been a fan of Yamaha audio equipment and when I was looking for a decent (cheap) set of 5.1 speakers for my Onkyo SR606 I came across this set and thought I'd give them a try. Much to my pleasure they work great! I am only using 3.1 right now but the sound is far superior to any pre-packaged HTS that I have looked at.
PROS - Price, quality of build, sound quality CONS - plastic casing/style (not the greatest for displaying around your house) This is a very minor con!

Question : Strange problem with speaker system with my home theater?
Hi. I have a strange problem with my Bose speaker system in my home theater. When I am watching a DVD, there are two ways I can hear the sound, either regular or digital. The digital sound is a lot better than the regular. But when I select the digital sound, the movies play fine, but at random parts, the sound turns off for a few seconds and then comes back. It is very strange. And I have noticed that when it turns off and comes back, the visual and audio are not in synch. This problem never happens when I select the regular sound.By the way, when I say "select the sound on the Bose system" I really mean the wires. The regular sound wires work for T.V., V.C.R., and D.V.D., but the digital sound wires work for only D.V.D.But what's going on? This is such a strange problem. And I know that my wires aren't loose or anything so that is not the problem.Thanks.
Answer:

Question : What is the best home theater speaker system for UNDER $400?
I have a DLP HDTV and a Pioneer reciever http://reviews.cnet.com/Pioneer_VSX_1016TXV/4505-6466_7-32026748.html?tag=lstRemember it has to be UNDER $400 (please post link)
Answer:
My answer's going to disappoint you. First, "best" is a subjective thing. One guy will think a 500W system sounds better than a 750W... and for his own sake, he's right! Someone else will disagree... and for their sake, they're right. Secondly, it really depends on the size and shape of the room you're going to locate the sound system. Obviously, if you're turning an entire basement into your home theater room, you'll need a beefier system than you'd require in a 10'X12' room. You may not want a ton of power if you're dwelling in an apartment (why buy power you'll never use?). Your speaker placement has much to do with how powerful your system needs to be, as well. Speakers far away from the viewing area of course need more "voice" than speakers sitting right beside you. Perhaps if you post your room's dimentions and a general description of the room's settup, we can get you closer.

Question : Philips HTS3566D/37 Home Theater System speaker wire extension?
I just bought a Philips HTS3566D/37 Home Theater System and the speaker wire that was included for the rear speakers is not long enough to reach the back of my living room. Normally I would buy extra speaker wire and extend it but these speakers click into the back and do not detach from the speakers themselves. Does anyone know how I can extend these speaker wires? Is there an adapter that is sold?

Question : Are my home theater speakers a fire hazard?
A friend of my husband's installed our inexpensive home theater system as a favor. He has the wires for the speakers (mounted around the room) coming up out of the vents in the floor. Granted, the vents are in a good spot for speaker placement. But is this a fire hazard?
Answer:
Under most circumstances the risk of fire due to a short in loudspeaker cables is virtually non-existent. If your loudspeaker cables use the typical PVC insulation found on most lower-cost or generic A/V cabling then you do run a somewhat higher risk of developing a problem. Prolonged or repeated exposure to elevated temperature and airflow rates can, over time, result in degradation of the PVC insulation in large part due to plasticizer migration and volatility. This can lead to increased brittleness and crazing in the exposed portion of the insulation, which could eventually result in failure of the insulation. Under these circumstances the most likely result is that the protection circuit that protects the output stage of the audio amplifier would kick-in, or worse, the output stage of the amplifier could self-destruct; depending on how well the unit was designed and built. There are very few (well-designed) audio amplifiers that would pose a fire hazard when the speaker outputs are shorted. You have a couple of fairly simple choices to effectively mitigate the threat of potential problems: (1) replace the loudspeaker cabling with either a jacketed loudspeaker cabling or use polyolefin (i.e., polypropylene) insulated cables; or (2) install 1/2" to 1" diameter plenum rated or riser-rated halogen-free (aka low smoke zero halogen or LSZH) nonmetallic corrugated flexible conduit (aka “innerduct,”) over the (speaker) cabling wherever the cabling passes through the air ducting. Electrical and datacom/telecom suppliers, better hardware stores and A/V dealers/installers should have innerduct in stock. One last item - you can reduce the amount of self-heating that occurs with higher cable resistances by choosing loudspeaker cabling that has a larger wire gauge. Speaker cabling is generally available in stock wire gauge sizes ranging from 4 AWG up to 16 AWG and higher; the lower the number the larger the gauge of wire. As a general rule of thumb you should always use the lowest wire gauge you can afford and never less than a single run of 14 AWG cable. Though rarely a significant issue, self-heating varies in direct proportion to the cable’s resistance, (which increases as the wire gauge decreases, i.e., smaller overall conductor cross-sectional area and/or the cable length increases,) the impedance of the loudspeaker and the power output of the audio amplifier. Question : Whats the best way to hide home theater speaker wires?
I have a home theater system and I want to hang some speakers on the walls but the problem is, is that the speaker wires hang from the bottom and I have a white wall. It looks ugly like if ACTUALL wires were hanging out of the walls. What would be the best way to hide the wires? Also, I CANNOT PUT FURNITURE TO COVER UP THE WIRES.PS: I already bought the home speaker set for a ton of cash, and I'm sure not as hell planning to return or buy some different set.
Answer:
If you have drywall you can drill holes and feed the wires behind the wall. You can use nice mounting plates (like they do for tv antennas) so it looks professional. If you can't get behind the wall then you are a bit limited. If you buy special flat cable in a color to match the wall, then you can fix it so it isn't very noticeable. Or you can mount on the ceiling or on floor stands, so that you don't have to run cables up or down the wall. This is a major thing with home theater installations. People seem to pretend that it isn't a problem, but to me it's always the first thing I worry about!Let us know what you decide.

Question : Home Theater Speaker Selection?
Hello, I was looking for a speaker setup for my home theater system. i was looking at spending around 500. i have heard alot about the Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 Surround Sound Speaker System. i dont care if i have to buy them sepperate or what, i just want stylish speakers, dont care how big they are, that sound great. I need a 7.1 set up, the speakers wattage to handle around 120 and the sub around 230. Thanks A lot for the help-Mitch.
Answer:
For $500, you may not get a great speakers at the wattage you specified. There are misleading advertising and also brochures of the wattage. Here is a more correct way. One way to specify is average power which is just specified as 20W or 30W. The second term is PMPO which is Peak Music Power Output and this is instantaneous peak could be 6 to 7 times more than the average power (please see my older answer to another question titled "PLease Guide me to buy a new woofer..?").7.1 is useful only when the orginal Disc (mostly DVD) is recorded in 7.1. Otherwise you will get only what is in the disc usually stereo or 5.1.So if you are concerned about quality buy a stereo or 5.1 with 20W per channel is reasonable enough.

Question : Good home theater speakers to complement my Onkyo?
I just bought an Onkyo TX-SR604/S Home Theater Receiver and am wondering if it makes sense to upgrade my home theater speakers. I'm currently using a set of Sony home theater speakers that I picked up about 4 years ago.I'm not looking to spend a ton of cash, but figure a speaker upgrade may be needed to get the full value of my Onkyo.
Answer:
here's a link to them on ebay.
