Editorial Review :

Introducing a complete home theater audio solution for people who crave true cinema excitement without breaking the bank - the RM6750. The integrated Power Port Bass Vent designed right onto the back of the compact Satellite and Center Channel speakers - the same technology used in full-sized Polk Audio speakers - improves lower midrange response and all-important sub/sat blending, taking the RM6750 beyond the performance realm of any other sub/sat system in this price range. This integrated design reveals midrange with no "hole" in the frequencies between the sats and the sub, for male vocals that are rich and full-not thin and weak like other sub/sat systems. The RM6750 comes with its own subwoofer module, an 8 inch long throw driver and high current power amplifier for real ground-shaking bass thrills.

Polk RM-6750 Speaker System

Speaker system is adequate for our den TV viewing. Using a Yamaha home theatre
reciever and a 50" Panasonic TV. Plenty of volume, crisp at all levels. Subwoofer
not as dominant as my Klisphe 10" in a larger area we have as an official home
theatre room but i have no complaints with it or the system in general given
the very reasonable price you get all the speakers you need for a good system
in one box.

Amazing sound quality for the price!!!!

Had my RM6750 5.1 set for about 1 and half months now and they are literally perfect. Before I purchased the RM6750 I compared it to all other 5.1 sets like the Polk RM705, Klipsch HD300 and Boston Acoustic MCS100 kit and the Polk's sounded the best to me in the testing room. I couldn't tell the difference between the Polk RM6750 and the RM705 so I couldn't justify the added cost, Sure the RM705 kit looked cooler but worth the extra $200 i would have spent.

I am using my Polk RM6750 kit in my 13.5' x 14.75' living room which opens up to my kitchen and this thing is perfect especially when I am on my couch with the speakers around me. I now would much rather say home and wait for the blu-ray to watch rather than wasting $10 in the theater

There are no better sounding 5.1 speaker set for the price! This is an amazing value for sound quality!!!

great inexpensive speakers

these are great speakers for what they are - I'm using them in a fairly small room with a 42" LCD tv and game systems for watching bluray movies and playing games.

THe reciever I have had a "self tuning" feature and once that was done all the levels were set appropriately and they sounded great.

One thing to keep in mind, this has a powered subwoofer so it'll sound better than most of the passive subwoofers you'll find on the inexpensive allinone surround sound systems.

Good Deal!

I wasn't sure what to expect. These are my first surround sound speakers so I don't have a benchmark. I was thrilled at the sound AND the price. I visited a Best Buy before buying these and was tempted to pay twice what I payed for theses. They poo-poo'd speaker in a boxs. They were wrong and my money was well spent. I'm very happy with these. Some of the ratings as I remember descibed problem in the low voices? I did not notice any issues. I did have to visit an audio/video store to buy the cables needed to hook up my sub-woofer to my receiver. I was surprised it did not come in the box. No biggie.

Fair speakers at an excellent price

I am not an audiophile but I was somewhat disappointed with the sound quality of these speakers. I previously owned a set of Klipsch (less expensive then the Polks base price and 5 years older) and they remain better then the Polks. To my ears there is a lack of range that I enjoyed with my Klipsch speakers. I will say for the $230 I spent on these I am happy enough with the quality to keep them wired to my home theatre system.

Great for backgroud mood music in the home

I am convinced that the reviewers calling these "cheap" or "tinny" sounding have never listened to them.

If you want unabtrusive speakers to provide clean and spacious background music with a decent base response these are perfect (Eagles, Carley Simon, Joni Mitchel, Miles Davis etc.) If you want speakers to play at volumes you need to shout over and rattle the fillings out of your teeth (Zep, AC/DC, Sabbath), look elsewhere.

These are perfect if mostly used for providing background mood music in rooms when entertaining, such as for the holidays. We have 2 pair we have been using for 5 years in a 23'x16' LR and 28'x14' kitchen and they still sound like new. We are adding a third pair in the dining room and a 4th on the porch.

Well made wall mounts as well.

Bose 161 are just surround speakers NO MORE

I've read some critisism for the Bose 161 speakers at the moment when the reviewers are saying they can't have enought bass sound, and the same I'm reading for those that are writting about the "cheapper" components for Bose brand with its expensive prices.

Let's start. The Bose 161 are just surround speakers, that is the fact and don't search or try to find any kind of deeper bass frequency expecting a BOOM inside them, these little boxes have inside two 2 1/2" tweeters and so in that way it makes a very firm and strong mid frequency.

To me, Bose are one of the State-of-Art brands who are specialized in speakers for mids and high frequencies with a very reliable wide of clear, shiny and high fidelity sounds, but I must accept Bose haven't a very reliable subwoofer's line 'cause I've heard most of those subs and it can't reach the best in deep and power for bass sounds, there are just the perfect company for the small boxes of tweeters and mids but no for truly bass power, neither for home theater experiences specially for that action movies with tons of explotions everywhere.

Back for 161 speakers, I bought them for replacing in my home theater system my old front Technics towers that were more specialized in mids and mid-bass sounds, in the moment of proof the 161 I was totally amazed. For first time I've heard the perfect complement for my other speakers (I have two MK rear surrounds, one Boston Acoustics for center and a 12" Sony sub that shakes the room with very deep and powerful bass as I ever expect), in my Technics amp I could make the proof for movies and music and I'm very happy to say, the 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS sounds never sounded better than ever, and for music I proved with the Esquivel CD "Latin-Esque" (that comes with a large variety of stereo and cuadraphonic changes) and I'm absolutely pleased with the 161 Bose boxes, now I can enjoy incredible high fidelity sound in home without innecesary high volume and any kind of noise, just the necessary to hear the absolute one.

Then, is this technology that can make the Bose 161 sounds in that way "cheap"? Of course no!!! Are many people expecting to find in the Bose line some speakers who came with gold, diamonds and very finest bringing from the Amazon jungle wood boxes? Or is necessary buying more expensive sound systems? I've heard Harman Kardon, JBL, Jamo, Infinity, Polk Audio and more speaker brands and Bose is in the same quality level, including MK and Boston Acoustics that are my other speaker brands.

So if you want quality for the correct price, just go for it but, If you are expecting better sound and high fidelity technology for a cheapest price belief me, I can't recommend nothing. Just try with the Bose 161 and you'll find high fidelity sounds in the mid-high frequencies, no more.

Very good for surround

The Bose 161s do a very good job as surround speakers for (in my case) a typical sized family room. I've used them for several weeks now as side surround speakers. In my setup all of the bass is directed to the two large front speakers and the subwoofer, so the 161s just need to provide clear neutral sounding support - which they do very well.

My order was fulfilled by JR Music (through Amazon) and the speakers were shipped and arrived in a few days with no delays.

These are odd shaped speakers with compound curves. I have my speakers laying on their sides (bookshelf style) and the Bose provided rubber feet to stabilize the speakers were missing from the package. Without the feet, the speakers rock from side to side. I called Bose customer service, and they very quickly and politely handled my call, and sent the rubber feet, express mail at no charge.

I am very happy with these rear surround speakers from Bose. they sound great, look great, and were very easy to mount on the wall. Highly recommend this product

Sound quality is great, but demands strong bass boost

I was a bit disappointed with the low bass level. I have to boost low frequencies about 8 dB to get them to the proper level. After that I had to adjust the whole equalizer range (by ear) to get a balanced sound. A chart with frequency response would help a lot but I was not able to find it. Anyway, it sounds great, clear.

Ideal for Sailboats too

Vesta and I lived for ten years on a sixty-foot sailboat in the Caribbean. For the first couple we had a Sony ghetto blaster for a sound system, but with over three hundred CDs aboard we decided we needed something better, so we bought an Acoustimass 5 Speaker System, which we ran from a twelve-volt Alpine car stereo with a 12 volt Alpine amp. We put the subwoofer behind a curtain in the back of the main salon in front of the extra sails and the two speakers on the left and right bulkheads and for eight years we had the best sound system in the Caribbean from St. Martin all the way down to the Spanish Main. You can't go wrong with Bose, you really can't.

Acoustimass

I'm a speaker lover, and not a Bose-hater. Bose makes some incredible speakers: like the 901, some of the best I've ever heard. The Bose Acoustimass series are not very good, frankly, but obviously fine for most people. Missing a significant portion of the midrange is OK, apparently, if they look cool enough. The bass is one-dimensional. If it weren't for an advertising budget, I'm certain no one would own an Acoustimass, since they will lose any head-to-head challenge at almost any price. My sister-in-law gave me her system since she knows I like speakers. I very quickly gave this system to my son for college, since it won't matter if it gets stolen.

Great quality...

i got these for $4 (not a type-o, $4) at my church treasure sale. Didn't really know what to expect, but HOLY COW, I put them through tests with my iPod, whatching tv, and even playing video games, and each time, it was like you were right there, in the action or at the concert. So weather you get them for $4 or $400, you should still buy them.

Awesome speakers, but poor subwoofer

I have a receiver, and was wondering why the sound was so poor so I connected the speakers to the receiver, and took the subwoofer out completely which makes the cube speakers sound awesome, and louder.

Just get a powered subwoofer, and you have an awesome system. I bought this setup for a new years party, and it came a little late due to weather issues which I am kind of glad for or my friends might have been more upset.

Pretty good, in context. The little engine that can.

I tried the Acoustimass 5 on the optional stands, mistakenly I had a pair of Klipsch Heresy III's in the room, as expected, the Heresy III's toasted them, but the Heresy III's are $1600 a pair, so was this a real comparison. No, it was a pair of professional sound reinforcement speakers v. home stereo speakers. I wouldn't dream of comparing them to the Forte II's or any of the large Klipsch systems. The premise that a person can slap together a horn and a bass driver in a ported box and compare them to the Acoustimass 5's is a joke. I love good horn loaded speakers, and I have heard bad horn loaded speakers that drive holes in my ears. Efficiency is not the only criteria in an era where power output is cheap.

So I went to the bose outlet and heard the Acoustimass 5's along with the VCS-30 center and surround speakers, a total of $650, not bad for real 5.1. As a less than emphatic person for Bose, I had to admit, these little guys really did the job, I could close my eyes and hear some pleasant sound, which is what most people want. Specifications don't take into account speaker personality, which all speakers have. The Bose system was nice, easy to listen to and all in all, darn good. Directionality and cacophony were minimal.

The little $650 speaker system is truly spectacular, in both movies and music they are really good. The Bose store was nice enough to set this up for me. There are things that well, are not Klipsch, all of my Klipsch is made in the USA, but only because they are all Heritage series stuff. These little guys (Bose A 5's and VCS 30) filled the room with good sound. The surround package added on really made them quite spectacular for $650. They have an exceptional spatial quality and are easy on the ears.

Look it bothers me that Bose doesn't publish technical specs for anything but professional products. The thing is when you are listening, with your eyes closed, just enjoy as I did. People complain about the price, well from where I sit, the combination of the VCS 30 and A 5's are a bargain.

Bose- Poor products driven by advertising hype

Bose is a fascinating case study of what the power of advertising can do for products that are acknowledged within the audio industry as being cheaply made and technically outperformed by all of its competiters. Based on audio theories from the 1960's and parts of lower quality than what can be bought at Radio Shack, Bose has built an incredible empire out of poorly designed products driven by a huge advertising budget creating an aura of "Bose".

Consumers should do their research before shelling out money for Bose speakers. A google search will bring you to epinions or audioreview websites where you can find review after review, mostly negative, from buyers of Bose products.

The commonly accepted wisdom in the audio industry is that Bose makes low audio quality products and sells them at very high prices. In other words those Polk, JBL, Wharfedale or Infinity mid-fi products you can find at Amazon are usually higher quality at much better price points.

Compare the sound if you ever get a chance. Make sure you DO NOT depend on volume, in other words volume is a bad indicater of quality. Listen for the high and low notes and to the clarity of the music. Tough to do in a showroom at Circuit City or Best Buy, but even there the differences will show up. Bose attempts to prevent consumers from doing this by segregating their products away from the competition.

After this you might look at online audio magazines (do a google search), Audioreview (one word) and Audiogon. You'll find whole NEW world of audio products such as PSB, Paradigm, Vandersteen, Quad, Sonus Faber, ACI and many more who's products will put you on a much higher level of audio than you'd ever imagine. Usually these speakers are SEVERAL times more electronically sophisticated than Bose at the same price! What you won't find in these websites of magazines are Bose articles. Bose just isn't taken seriously by the industry.

Good luck and happy hunting!

problems....

got these home and experienced MAJOR distortion... after an hour of guessing i found out they wired one of the cubes wrong inside... the polarity was reversed. After fixing that whole deal, i'd say listening to them reveals pretty decent mids and highs but the bass is iffy. Sometimes it sounds just fine and sometimes it likes to be boomy. Overall the bass just doesnt cut it for me. It's decent but the measly 6.5' woofer just isn't enough to produce deep, satisfying bass. I dont listen to earth shattering bass but i like to know it's there... I'm pretty disappointed that the polarity is mixed... definitely not impressed for a product that is $200 (LOTS MORE when it first came out) but i guess that's the reputation i hear about bose products these days. Lots of marketing hype and poor quality. It sounds okay but by no means is it a "high end" audio item. I used to love BOSE products and wondered why everyone hated them... i see why now. I didnt get a chance to look at the drivers but people say they're made of paper cone... i wouldn't doubt it! Sorry bose, it didn't do it for me this time.. good thing this is for my aunt and not me, i just bought it for her and tested it out

edit*
actually after more testing, i concluded that there is not a polarity problem.. the speaker itself is indeed defective... very dissapointing

Pretty nice

I purchased these speakers as a way to enhance sound from my tv, xbox, and DVD player. I wasn't looking for HUGE sound, and these speakers are perfect. The quality is great (what you expect from Bose). The only downside is that there isn't a very powerful bass. It's there, but not really doing much. If your looking for enhanced sound for a tv without getting a total he theater, these speakers are great. Also perfect if you just want some extra sound in a small room such as a bedroom.

Great replacement for those tiny (and tinny) speakers in your LCD TV

I bought these speakers to replace my decades-old bookshelf speakers with something much, much smaller and easier to hide in a small family room. Then, I plugged in my new Samsung LCD TV into my old audio receiver so I could output the TV's sound through my stereo system. Call it my cheap "home theater" setup. The Samsung TV looks fantastic, but the sound played through the TV's built-in speakers is abysmal -- but I don't care! I just power-on two devices -- my TV and my stereo receiver -- to get both great sound AND great audio using my home stereo receiver and these Bose speakers.

The two, small, Bose Accoustimass speakers sit atop my entertainment armoire that houses my stereo and TV. In order to improve the sound, I cut and painted two small, wooden wedges so the speakers atop my armoire are pointed slightly downward, towards the leather couch where we sit to watch TV.

The woofer sits beside the armoire. The sound is good, not amazing, but okay for my set-up.

I liked that the audio cables were very long and easy to install into these speakers. Just press a button at the back of the speaker to insert the bare wires of the audio cable into the speaker. Also, the audio cables are very clearly labeled red and black, so it's foolproof to ensure you've got the right polarity.

Conclusion: These aren't a 5-star product because they deliever the best sound possible from home speakers. No, they are a 5-star product because they deliver very good sound in a very small form factor, and at a very affordable price.

Rating :

excellent sound, out of sight, good value

I really like these Bose speakers. I use them for my home theater as well as for listening to music, and the sound coming out of them is rich, warm, clean, and loud, especially considering their small size. I'm powering them with a Sony STR-DH100 receiver which I bought for $130 on Amazon, and I believe this is a good pairing. At the current price, these are also excellent value, which is a odd thing to be saying about a Bose product, as they are generally known for being over priced.

There are only two caveats to mention. First, the cube speakers sound very directional, so you really need to be in front of them to get the full effect. Secondly, while this system produces a very warm sound, it doesn't do a great job with deep base because the sub-woofer is just too small to hit those lows, and on top of that, it doesn't have its own amp. What this means practically, is that playing songs by the Beatles, or Green Day is going to sound great...but playing something from Bone Thugs in Harmony will sound a bit muted.

One more thing to say. I've had the small cube speakers by my TV for a few years, with the sub-woofer in a corner nearby. My fiance, who's lived with me the whole time, recently found the box (the sub-woofer) sitting in the corner and said, "what's this box doing here, can we throw it out, or move it to a closet?". Funny, but I guess it speaks to the small profile that the system has in your home. She just assumed it was only the two small cube speakers.

Good Little Speakers

I needed some small, wife-approved speakers for the living room. We have an entertainment system in the basement but I wanted the ability to play music on the main floor of our house. These speakers are very small but sound great for the size. You won't mistake them for big full-range towers.

1. These require a stereo receiver / amp.
2. The speakers hook up just like regular speakers. Wires are included.
3. The sub-woofer is passive - it doesn't need AC power.

Questions & Answers
Question : Is it ok to use a 6 speaker home theater with only 4 speakers connected to the system?
I just want to use my home theatre at least with four speakers (front-left, front-right, center, and sub-wofer) until i find the time to run the cables across the room to connect the other speakers (rear-left, rear-right).

Answer:
Yes it is fine, only you obviously wont have any surround effects. What you have to do is go into the receivers menu and disable all the speakers except for the ones you are using. The system probabily defaults to all five speakers, so you will have to manually disable them. Doing this will mix the sound in a way that you will not lose anything. Some systems, however, like HTIBs, will not have this option because they expect you to connect all the speakers that came in the box. If that is the case, then I would advise leaving the system in stereo mode, which will only send sound to the front two and subwoofer. If you system does not have a stereo mode, then you may lose sound effects in movies and shows you watch. A way to get around this is the connect the system with RCAs (no Optical or Digital Coax), so the system will not receive surround sound.

Question : Whats the best way to hide home theater speaker wires?
I have a home theater system and I want to hang some speakers on the walls but the problem is, is that the speaker wires hang from the bottom and I have a white wall. It looks ugly like if ACTUALL wires were hanging out of the walls. What would be the best way to hide the wires? Also, I CANNOT PUT FURNITURE TO COVER UP THE WIRES.PS: I already bought the home speaker set for a ton of cash, and I'm sure not as hell planning to return or buy some different set.

Answer:
If you have drywall you can drill holes and feed the wires behind the wall. You can use nice mounting plates (like they do for tv antennas) so it looks professional. If you can't get behind the wall then you are a bit limited. If you buy special flat cable in a color to match the wall, then you can fix it so it isn't very noticeable. Or you can mount on the ceiling or on floor stands, so that you don't have to run cables up or down the wall. This is a major thing with home theater installations. People seem to pretend that it isn't a problem, but to me it's always the first thing I worry about!Let us know what you decide.

Question : where is a good place to buy high end 12 gage home theater speaker wire?
where is a good place to buy high end 12 gage home theater speaker wire?

Depending on how much you need I get most my cable etc from http://www.mycablemart.com/store/cart.php?m=product_list&c=56 orhttp://www.cablestogo.com/product_list.asp?cat%5Fid=2015or http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239Never ever NEVER buy monster cable. The mark up on their stuff is unbelievable. They do not ever show or will tell you what gage wire they even use. Remember pretty color insulation and fancy marketing schemes will not make your speakers sound any better, big rip off.

Question : Is there any way possible to hock up a Speaker Home Theater System in a car?
If so how do i hock it up if it needs a wall socket?

Answer:
Yes get a proper sine wave inverter and simply plug it in to the 240 volt output. Make sure everything is secure so it doesn't fly around when in off chance that someone runs into you. Reason for sine wave is that some electronics don't take kindly to not haveing a good 50htz supply.

Question : Home theater front speaker not loud enough?
Does anyone else have this problem? When playing movies the actor's voices are sometimes barely audible so I turn the volume up. then suddenly the special effects are heard and the loud noise is unbearable. is that the way Home theaters are supposed to work?Yes, I'm talking about the center speaker.

Answer:
Get a new center channel speaker. Most store bought centers are too small and/or not sensitive enough to hear over the mains or subs. (assuming you've tried adjusting the levels of each speaker) So either look around and buy a better one with higher sensitivity or.....get one of Bills. Question : New sony home theater system; only front center speaker working?
I have just purchased a new 5-speaker Sony home theater, and have all the speakers connected. however, sound only comes from the front center speaker and the subwoofer. I ran a test with the supplied cd and all the speakers are working, however when i watch tv sound only comes from the front center. Also, when i change the tv input to the home theater video input, i cannot open the menu to adjust settings. can someone please help?!?!* I have the home theater connected to my tv via optical audio cable

Answer:
On a 5.1 system, nearly all the voices will come from the center speaker. To see if the rest are working fine, you need source material that actually uses 5.1. Many action movies do great with 5.1.One thing you can do is get the HD essentials disk and follow its directions for setting up both sound and video. This is worth doing if you spent any decent amount of money on the TV. http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Video-Essentials-Basics-Blu-ray/dp/B000V6LST0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd &qid=1264805623&sr=8-1 Mine came with the colored glasses needed for video and a guide for the sound.

Question : Home Theater Speaker Selection?
Hello, I was looking for a speaker setup for my home theater system. i was looking at spending around 500. i have heard alot about the Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 Surround Sound Speaker System. i dont care if i have to buy them sepperate or what, i just want stylish speakers, dont care how big they are, that sound great. I need a 7.1 set up, the speakers wattage to handle around 120 and the sub around 230. Thanks A lot for the help-Mitch.

Answer:
For $500, you may not get a great speakers at the wattage you specified. There are misleading advertising and also brochures of the wattage. Here is a more correct way. One way to specify is average power which is just specified as 20W or 30W. The second term is PMPO which is Peak Music Power Output and this is instantaneous peak could be 6 to 7 times more than the average power (please see my older answer to another question titled "PLease Guide me to buy a new woofer..?").7.1 is useful only when the orginal Disc (mostly DVD) is recorded in 7.1. Otherwise you will get only what is in the disc usually stereo or 5.1.So if you are concerned about quality buy a stereo or 5.1 with 20W per channel is reasonable enough.

Question : Home Theater Speaker question?
How many watts should my surround sound system have? And what specs are important to look at when buying speakers to maximize my home theater experience..I would also like tiny speakers and as few wires as possible..anyone know of any other than bose?

Answer:
A: Bose is a bad brand. Their products sound okay, but competing products often exceed them for less than half the money. They use low quality outmoded parts and refuse to release specifications. Once sold through hi-fi dealers, they're now only available at big-box electronics retailers. Sterophile did a review on one of ther cube systems in the mid 90's, the first review they got in serious press since the early 80's, and the person who conducted it was aghast. Suffice to say, they performed akin to computer speakers.http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html#number1Okay, so what SHOULD you get? Well, I'd suggest going to your local high-fi dealer with a set budget and asking for advice. If you have less than two thousand, maybe not so much, as that stuff's expensive. If not your style, I know Orb audio has a full kit for $1,500-2,500. Includes a decent full-featured surround sound Receiver, your choice of five or seven satelites, and an eight or ten inch subwoofer. Might make more sense to buy your reciever separately, though, but their subwoofer is def. tuned for the system. This company is very well respected, and has a reputation of selling Lifestyle Systems for people who aren't keen on Bose products. Never heard them, but stereo mags have given them accolades, and they certainly look classy.http://www.orbaudio.com/Also, specifications:Don't know if I mentioned above, but Bose does not list specifications, probably because they'd be rather uncompetitive. The ones that matter includePower handling (RMS, not peak)Ohms (important that you match them up right. Lower impedance speakers are harder to drive, and make your reciever break a sweat.)Sensitivity: The higher the figure, the fewer watts needed to reach a set volume.Frequency response: Should always exceed 20,000KHZ, and should always be rated plus or minus three decibels. Diameter plus number of driversCrossover point of subwoofer, plus how many watts subwoofer has.

Question : What is a good cheap home theater speaker system for under $250?
I am looking for a good 5.1 speaker set and tuner for under $250 alltogether (I am a cheap s.o.b, plus I am layed off from work so the income has been very low). Any answers are greatly appreciated. Any suggestions on what speaker and tuner models/brands will be great as I will be looking for them on ebay after. Thanks alot!!!!!!-jon

Answer:
At the Wal-Mart where I work we sell a 720W (max) RCA 5.1 setup for $150 its not super loud but it sounds good. Most Wal-mart stores carry this http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5693293 which is quite acceptable for the price.
