An excellent system at an even better price
This is a great system at the price and supplies more than enough power for throwing some great house parties. Actually this system has a lot going for it besides price and power. Setup of the reciever was actually quite easy and I have never even attempted setting up anything like this before. All of the speakers have their own colored coating wires and tabs so you can't go wrong there. The set comes with a quick start poster and a seperate instruction manual for each individual Kenwood component.
However I did run into some trouble setting up all my other components...i.e. game platforms, DVD, and VCR...but Kenwood tech support walked me through the whole process and even sent me some tech hints to my e-mail address. I guess the only bad thing about the system is the size of the remote. The darn thing is TINY and the buttons are really TINY so I am always pressing the wrong button but if you have small hands then it shouldn't be that much of a problem. Oh a couple of other things one should look for before purchasing. Make sure the reciever has an S-video connection because the VR-407 and the V7030D are the only two recievers that have the S-video jacks. And the last thing is that the length of the speaker wire for the sattelite speakers may be too short for optimal place settings. Other than these couple minor gripes this system is a great buy and produces excellent sound. My dad has had his Kenwood system for over 20 years hopefully I can be as lucky as well.

Great Deal at a Great Price
Fantastic system at a low price considering what all you get for your money. Set-up is a snap with easy to use Connect Guide. Its able to pump out a lot of sound and with good component devices (DVD, CD Player, etc.), the sound will blow you away. The remote could be a little easier to use and the speaker wire that comes with it is a little skimpy, but overall you'll get the proverbial bang for your buck out of this system.

The Sub woofer is very weak for being an active Sub
The Surround and bookshelf speakers sound great the sub woofer hits like a mouse and crackles if I put the sub volume 2 mpoints above minimum look some where else if want to feel any sort of rumble. I will be replacing the Sub and keeping the others

Nice Speaker system
Had this speaker system a for about 8 month and I'm still enjoying them I got them hook up to the Pioneer-VSX-1016TXV-K-Channel-Audio-Receiver. For a home theater system in about a 24x24 family room they work very well.

Pioneer SFCRW240LS Home Theater Speaker System
Good sound quality and price was great. My sister had recently purchased a Bose for a significant amount of money and her system doesn't sound that much better considering the price difference.

PIONEER HAS IT GOING ON
I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE. THE QUALITY OF SOUND WOWS EVERYONE THAT HEARS THEM. I HAVE SINCE BOUGHT 2 MORE OF THE SPEAKER SYSTEMS BECAUSE THEY ARE SO WELL LIKED BY EVERYONE INCLUDING ME. BESIDES, I NEEDED TWO SUBWOOFERS (ONE FOR EACH SIDE OF MY ENTERTAINMENT CENTER). A BIG THANKS PIONEER AND AMAZON.

A very good inexpensive Home Theater Speaker System
I paired this Pioneer SFCRW240LS Home Theater Speaker System with a Harman-Karden AVR335 receiver and couldn't be more pleased. You may find better speakers but for a (12 ft. by 18 ft.)family room, they are quite adequate. The color and style goes quite well with most interior room decor and I feel that this speaker system is a great buy for the price.

Sony Speaker System
All around good speakers for the price. They don't handle bass real well but for their size they do an okay job with it. Mid range and treble are all real good. Music played over them is clear and distortion free. Overall a good deal.

Sony Speakers, Used
Needed a good speaker system for my parents LCD TV/Monitor Christmas gift that they use exclusively as a tv. I had bought this exact system for my teenager about 4 years ago and was very impressed with the sound. There was a little wear on the amp, but once I hooked it up to the headphone jack and turned it on, my parents were thrilled. Sound is great and by connecting it the way I did, everything is controlled by one remote. Shipped fast, got exactly what I had hoped for. Purchased from weiwei45, to whom I'd like to say "thank you."

Giant Killer (with a little help)
I had been looking for a better quality speaker to replace the high quality (but huge) speakers that were packaged with my new Sony R series computer. I considered the Bose media mates and others recommended on this site but most still took a significant chunk of real estate and did little to free up visual space either. So I noticed the SRS-Z1 on the Sony website and immediately thought, there is no way that those tiny little things with only three watts per channel are going to sound half as good as my current speakers but...
So here they sit on my desk, barely even noticable among the stacks of... never mind. Bottom line, if you want an all in one portable system or a simple two speaker, easy-on-the-eyes replacement for your computer speakers LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE! If however you are willing to add a subwoofer and create your own mini audiophile system BUY A SET NOW!
Without a good sub these speakers are huantingly transparent and accurate to a fualt but they have no bass what-so-ever. Imagine a set of $1.99 headphones and you'll be in the right frame of mind. Yes, the fidelity is much higher than a transister radio but the frequency loss on the low end is similiar. Once a sub with mini plug output is added however this system just opens up. Freed of the need to produce the low frequencies these speakers make mids and highs seem to hang in the air as smoothly and delicately as anything else on the market. After about ten minutes of E.Q. adjustment on my computer these speakers are comparable in sound to my (Much larger floor speakers) Bose 701s in the living room, with a little help from the sub.
If the price tag scares you, remember that prices vary wildly from shop to shop and todays latest and greatest is tomorrows bargain bin filler.

This speakers are WAY Overpriced
If you really want portable speakers that sound great and cost a lot less go for the Bose Mediamates. They have exceptional sound quality for their size and price. Search for them and read my review on the Bose Mediamate! If you just want great speakers that go even louder than the Bose and have room shaking bass and can afford expesnive ones go for the Bose Companion 3! It is an AMAZING speaker system and it is like $20 more dollars than htis Sony speakers... go to www.bose.com and take a look at it under the Game and PC Section!

Exceptional Sound Imaging
I work in Pro audio and got turned on to these by a friend who already used them and let me borrow his set first. The sound imaging and clarity is exceptional for their size and price, but people who don't specifically listen for detail might want to be able to add more low-end. For me this is the perfect set of lightweight speakers to take on the road with my laptop.

yeah
I love it it rocks. What sucks is that you really need a nice sound card to really enjoy it. I am using my onboard Nvdia sound drivers with digital optical. I can hear the pc noise in it sometimes. Basically to really enjoy it I would have to buy a nice Sound card that can do Dolby encoded signal. For the price Buy it.

Amazing System
Like some of the previous reviewers, I can't believe some of the negativity coming out against these speakers. Most of it is user fault, thinking these will hook up easily to your pc or vcr and give you full fledged DD sound. If people actually spend time to read the specs of this system we would have no problems.
I just got these delivered 2 days ago and I must say WOW! They look great and have a good weight and solid feel to them. I bought them to use as pc speakers and hooked it up to my motherboard through an optical cable.
Sound is crisp, clear and very loud if you want it. I have no hint of any hiss or humming at all. This may be due to the optical connection, I haven't tried the RCA outs yet. The sub is plenty strong, hell with the music up loud you can use the sub as a fan, that much air pumps out of it. The control disc is also quite nice and easy to navigate.
I do wish it came with a remote and a headphone jack, but I'm still giving it 5 stars due to the quality of the product and the price($99) I paid for it.

Best sounding system you can get for $100
I am an audio freak and used many different types of speakers in all different environments. Really, I cannot think of anything else that you can get for $100 that sounds (and never mind looks) this good. Now if they have a white version, they can sell it at Apple stores for 3 times as much =P.
I would just caution that it requires space to be setup properly. I know you cannot get away with 5 speakers and a sub, but I almost wish the control unit can be designed to stand up vertically.

Pretty Good Speakers
I got this system on sale a while back. It was pretty easy to set up except for movies. I couldn't get proper surround sound if my card processed the DD signal then sent it digitally to the speakers. I also couldn't get many of my sound card's nifty features to work correctly, even using a digital connection. I got it mostly working right and it sounds great, it was just a pain to figure out how to get everything somewhat working. I fear my speakers may be dead now. They just made a pop and I can't get sound out of them. That was really strange, they work now after some fiddling.

Questions & Answers
Question : Looking for customer reviews for Energy Take Classic 5 Pack 5 0 Home Theater Speaker?
Where can I find reviews and opinions online for Energy Take Classic 5 Pack 5 0 Home Theater Speaker
Answer:
First off let me explain that the Energy Classic speakers in this kit are the exact same as the Energy Take Classic 5.1 except that you don't get the subwoofer. These speakers are just mind boggling good. They come in gloss piano black finish. They sound better than any speakers I've ever owned - even ones 5 times bigger. I use them mostly for music thru my Onkyo receiver but home theater sounds just as good. You can crank these babies up and they reward you with very clean and accurate sound. The first song I listened to with these was Khatru off Keys To Ascension and it put a big smile on my face. Anyway the best reason to get this set as opposed to the 5.1 kit is that you can match these up with a better subwoofer than the Energy sub. I got the Yamaha SW315 in piano black and it's a great match. Highly recommended. Just remember to use the proper gauge speaker wire for the length of your run and you'll be in great shape. These speakers are nice when they worked. I had to send each and every one of them to service. They even charge you to ship the units back to you. The service manager at the HQ is very rude, too. I will not buy Energy products again.

Question : Surround Sound Home Theater Speaker recommendations?
I need recommendations for a Surround Sound Home Theater Speaker System. I need something that would sound great with all my components (dvd player, CD player, Receiver, TV, Satellite).Model numbers or links would be good.
Answer:
My first recommendation from a Home Theater standpoint, meaning primarily Movies and Video, but music will be played from time to time, would be Definitive Technology Bipolar Super Towers. http://www.definitivetech.com/loudspeakers/powertower/powertower.htmlThey have built in powered subwoofers and they are THUNDEROUSLY powerful! The speakers themselves are great looking, great sounding, and pretty well priced for the quality of the product! If you want something just a bit more upscale, and PHENOMENAL sounding (but you better have an amplifier with GUTS) then look no further than Martin Logan Electrostatic Speakers. http://www.us.martinlogan.com/frontpage.htmlThese are my favorite speakers of ALL time! Yes, there are better speakers out there, but if you are so inclined, these speakers are nearly without comparison!Sorry to inform you... Bose is not a quality sounding speaker system from a music, nor from a home theater standpoint. Having been a high end salesperson, I can tell you 1 universal truth, Bose is expensive NOT because it is quality gear... But because they have the best marketing in the business. Bose is one of the most profitable stereo companies on the planet, charging anywhere from 50-100% margin on every product. No other component company makes anywhere near that much profit. Check my profile for other answers I have given on this subject. We used to joke about Bose when we sold them (not to the customers of course) "No Highs, All Lows, it MUST be Bose!" They turn the bass up far too high, but because people tend to like music they can FEEL, the "Bose sound" has become acceptable to many people. Hope this helps!!

Question : Do I need special home theater speaker wires for Panasonic home theater SC-HT930 ?
I purchased a used Panasonic home theater that came without speaker wires and instead of red and black connectors it's got white and blue speaker connectors. I 've tried to used regular speaker wires and got no sound. Do I need special speaker wires and where can I get them ???
Answer:
Hi there . Any wires connected from your amplifier to your speakers will give you sound .If you are not getting sound there may be a problem with your connections. What type of connectors do your speakers have. Are you getting any sound at all such as a hissing noise or is it dead quite. Double check your connections again and make sure they are secure. Have you checked the settings on your Receiver to make sure the sound options are working. There may be a switch to turn of the speaker sound if so turn it back on .See if this helps if not someone might have other options for you.

Question : Does any speaker wire work to connect a rear speaker in a home theater system?
I just got a new home theater system, an LG LHT854. The wire leading to one of the rear speakers is a bit short. It disconnects at both ends. I was wondering if I can just buy any standard speaker wire of the same gauge and connect it instead? What will this do to the sound quality, etc.? If this is bad, what else might you suggest for me to get the wire to the rear speaker discretely without having to go spend a bunch of money?
Answer:
Any speaker wire would work the guage doesn't matter for the small rear speakers guage only makes a difference if you have big speakers. Get long speaker cables any guage and run it along the edges of the room and if you have it hanging on the wall get some thumb tacks and pin the wires straight downwards towards the floor and around the edges. They sell plastic wire covers for the walls for cheap like 10 bucks for a set at stores like Wal Mart and they have them in multiple colors and lengths

Question : Are my home theater speakers a fire hazard?
A friend of my husband's installed our inexpensive home theater system as a favor. He has the wires for the speakers (mounted around the room) coming up out of the vents in the floor. Granted, the vents are in a good spot for speaker placement. But is this a fire hazard?
Answer:
Under most circumstances the risk of fire due to a short in loudspeaker cables is virtually non-existent. If your loudspeaker cables use the typical PVC insulation found on most lower-cost or generic A/V cabling then you do run a somewhat higher risk of developing a problem. Prolonged or repeated exposure to elevated temperature and airflow rates can, over time, result in degradation of the PVC insulation in large part due to plasticizer migration and volatility. This can lead to increased brittleness and crazing in the exposed portion of the insulation, which could eventually result in failure of the insulation. Under these circumstances the most likely result is that the protection circuit that protects the output stage of the audio amplifier would kick-in, or worse, the output stage of the amplifier could self-destruct; depending on how well the unit was designed and built. There are very few (well-designed) audio amplifiers that would pose a fire hazard when the speaker outputs are shorted. You have a couple of fairly simple choices to effectively mitigate the threat of potential problems: (1) replace the loudspeaker cabling with either a jacketed loudspeaker cabling or use polyolefin (i.e., polypropylene) insulated cables; or (2) install 1/2" to 1" diameter plenum rated or riser-rated halogen-free (aka low smoke zero halogen or LSZH) nonmetallic corrugated flexible conduit (aka “innerduct,”) over the (speaker) cabling wherever the cabling passes through the air ducting. Electrical and datacom/telecom suppliers, better hardware stores and A/V dealers/installers should have innerduct in stock. One last item - you can reduce the amount of self-heating that occurs with higher cable resistances by choosing loudspeaker cabling that has a larger wire gauge. Speaker cabling is generally available in stock wire gauge sizes ranging from 4 AWG up to 16 AWG and higher; the lower the number the larger the gauge of wire. As a general rule of thumb you should always use the lowest wire gauge you can afford and never less than a single run of 14 AWG cable. Though rarely a significant issue, self-heating varies in direct proportion to the cable’s resistance, (which increases as the wire gauge decreases, i.e., smaller overall conductor cross-sectional area and/or the cable length increases,) the impedance of the loudspeaker and the power output of the audio amplifier.
