Excellent quality for unpowered speakers

I bought these speakers for my PC ... after reading up on them on KLH's and other tech websites. I bought a used set ... from an ... affiliate. Got the speakers, had to attach 5.1 phone connectors so that they would fit into my PC's 5.1 soundcard. The speakers sound great! The only problem is that my soundcard cannot push enough power to them! When turned all the way up, all I get is a "normal" listening level. ...sells these under computer speakers, but never buy these for anything other than home audio.

I am satisfied with my purchase.

I read all the reviews before I made the move to purchase this and I too was scepticle. But I have heard of KLH and it's been all good, so I went for it! This is a great system and it connected up with my older Pioneer reciever. The only thing I was disappointed with was the lack of longer speaker wires. I extended them with additional wire to place them in all the right places. It was a great compliment to my already awesome Sansui house speakers. This was a good purchase.

NEVER AGAIN!!!

I got this system home, and it requires a thing called a receiver to hook it up, which costs [extra]... So unless you got a receiver I suggest you not buy this...

Great Deal

The center, front and rear speakers here are remarkable. I have friends who have spent several hundred dollars on sets of speakers, and there is really no noticeable difference in sound quality. However, the subwoofer here is simply a waste of space. Just toss it. Buy yourself a high quality sub. When combined with these speakers, you'll have a great home theater set up, and you'll still have paid less than your friends.

PHENOMENAL

I'd never heard of KLH until I bought a pair of large bookshelf style speakers for general audio purposes. The speakers were KLH's and they blew me away. How could I get a pair of speakers that sound this good for under [$]? Which is why when I looked for a home theatre set I went straight for the KLH's. This set is extraordinary. I've had them for well over a year and every time we watch a DVD we're still enamored by the sound these things produce. A 6 piece home theatre set for under [$]sounds ridiculous. It's not, if you're buying KLH.

The perfect system for my small living room!

I live in an apartment and am very cramped for space. The Ensemble 4 surround sound speakers are the ideal solution for me. They are small and unobtrusive, yet they sound really great! My friends can't believe that all that sound is coming from those little speakers. The woofer hides under an end table and the small speakers are mounted on the wall. I would highly recommend this system to anyone that is looking for big sound from small speakers...oh yeah, and the price absolutely can not be beat- I know, I shopped around!

The mouse that roared! [4.5 stars]

I have used the Cambridge SoundWorks Ensemble IV surround speaker system for over 2 years now. I am extremely satisfied! The system uses 5 small cube speakers that pack a punch. They sound great! The 0.1 component is a non-amplified subwoofer that is the size of a shoebox. I love the power and sound clarity I get from my 5.1 set. This is the best inexpensive way to complete a DVD watching experience. I routinely put in the "gunfight at the bank" scene from *Heat* to show off my system, and believe me, everyone is impressed. The system comes w/ a 10 year warantee, but I have never had a problem w/ my system.

One tip: most surround stereo receivers can adjust the power/output to emphasize the front speakers more than the rears. I highly advise doing that. In fact, Cambridge SoundWorks wants you to do that. Once you do that, you will notice a lot more bass from the subwoofer, as well as louder dialogue from the front speakers.

This system is a consumers best buy! It is easily the best value per dollar that I have ever spend on Audio/visual equipment. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is on a budget and doesn't want to lose out on experiencing 5.1 surround sound or DTS. And it will sound great!

Pretty good for a cheap upgrade for built in TV speakers

Cons: Weak subwoofer, very light & flimsy speakers
Pros: At about $10/speaker, an inexpensive way to go from very poor TV speakers to moderate speakers

The speakers provide better sound quality than the ones in my old TV, and it was fun to have a cheap surround sound experience. But, you definitely get what you pay for - don't expect a tremendous performance from these cheapies, but they are definitely adequate for moderate entertainment.

You get what you pay for

I ordered this system because I wanted to put new speakers on my existing surround sound system. Reading the reviews on Amazon, I expected the subwoofer to be weak (it is), but I expected the speakers to be good to excellent. They are fair. This is actually the first item in my multi-year history as an Amazon shopper that I am going to the trouble to return. The speaker system I ordered for my computer sounds better. If you just need a cheap system that's better than the speakers on your TV, this might be good for you. Otherwise, shop around and maybe spend just a little more.

KLH= good stuff cheap.

I Just got this system a month or two ago, and I'm happy with it. The speakers are quite outstanding actually. I have everything run through a Sony Receiver (the one that I've already reviewed) along with some vintage Yamaha center speakers, and the setup sounds quite nice so far. As everyone has already mentioned regarding KLH sound systems, the speakers are amazing, and the subwoofers lack bass. Then again, you do save a great deal of money on the sattellite system, so throw it towards a decent sub. The speakers come with everything required for mounting, except decent wall screws. Also, the included speaker wire is absolutely dreadful, I'd recommend getting your own separately.

This system is perfect for an apartment where you have to worry about neighbors above and below complaining about constant wall thumping. I've had no complaints thus far. I don't mean to sell the sub short, it is nice for the price, and doesn't seem like its going to blowout any time soon. Again, if you want to shake the paintings off your neighbors walls, you might want to try something else.

awesome package

got a great price for these speakers off of one of amazon.com's merchants, only $300 plus $30 shipping and handling. they work great, sound fabulous and these are the best priced/quality you can get for a stylish 6.1 small speaker package. I'm in heaven... for music, they sound fine, (i don't know what other people are talking about when complaining), and for movies...they are perfect...anyway, isn't that why you'd buy a 6.1 speaker package, for surround sound???..i mean they are called cinema series speakers, that is what they are made for. oh my, and i just got a new yamaha reciever on in addition to these. i am a one hundred percent satisfied customer.

Lack of wall mount options

I am sorry to say that after doing all my research into satellite speaker systems and deciding that the jbl scs160si system was the best for me in price and performance, I now have to reconcider because of the lack of wall mount bracket options that seem to be available. I haven't been able to find any for these speakers. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be happy to hear from you.

Good Sound But Design Problems

I have these speakers for use as the left/right rear and center rear of a surround sound system which includes Wharfdale 8.3 speakers in the front and center roles.
The sound seems to be fine and they are well made. I have two reasons why I can't recommend them tho:

They really aren't powerful enough to fit in a system that includes bigger front speakers. The 8.3s drown them and they aren't monster speakers by any stretch. I have tried all of the settings.suggestions on my excellent Yamaha Amp to redress this without success. Any suggestions JBL? Anyone?

The product specific speaker stands are poorly designed. The stands and poles look cool but the specifically designed cable clips are flimsy and fall off at the slightest provocation. A redesign to use a tubular support which the cable can go inside would be desirable. Be aware than these speakers are not compatable with any other generic speaker stand.

Great set

I got these baby's for free from Best Buy when I bought a 65 inch TV. I have been using some old KLH speakers for my surround sound (hooked up to a Sony 500 watt receiver). I was hesitant to replace my beloved KLH's (front were towers with 2 10 inch woofers). But I figured I would give it a shot, and wow, these baby's can sing! The sub puts out good bass and complements the surrounds very well. I have been impressed with these little guys! The guy at the best buy store demonstrated these for me, right next to a Bose set (that was more than 2x the cost), and they actually sounded better. My only wish is that the front center channel speaker was a little larger, but I do not know why because it sounds fine (I guess I am just used to my old big KLH center).

Questions & Answers
Question : What are good objects/stuff to reflect sound waves from home theater speakers to improve sound quality?
I am wondering, what should you do to improve a home theater sound/speaker system for more quality and surround sound experience . So what im asking is whats the best things to put in your basement to reflect sound better for surround sound experiences. I have hardwood floors, wide open area, a big theater couch and layers of paint on drywall if that helps reflect sound waves. thanks for your time.

Answer:
First there are many misconceptions about acoustics, one is that you want a damped or (dead) room. You want refections but you want them to be controled to a ideal time delay usually about 1 to 1.5 miliseconds. You are starting with what sounds like a nice room. You will want to add as little sound absorbing material as possible, I would suggest using a area rug on your floor, you will want to treat your back wall behind the listener and careful placement of material on the side walls.I prefer to use defusion rather than obsorbtion material, being that the problem with material that obsorbs sound is that they do not do so in a linear fashion. Meaning it may reflect certain frequencys and absorb others, this can and will call whats called Comb filtering.Speaker setup and dealing with Acoustic treatment is a very complex and time consuming process to do it right, but with some patience and good information you can achieve good sound.I would be happy to go into greater detail of speaker placement and acoustic with you if your interested or i would suggest a book called. The complete Guide to Hi-end audio (by Robert Harley) which gives you a pretty good idea of speaker placment and acoustic room treatment.Kevin

Question : Are my home theater speakers a fire hazard?
A friend of my husband's installed our inexpensive home theater system as a favor. He has the wires for the speakers (mounted around the room) coming up out of the vents in the floor. Granted, the vents are in a good spot for speaker placement. But is this a fire hazard?

Answer:
Under most circumstances the risk of fire due to a short in loudspeaker cables is virtually non-existent. If your loudspeaker cables use the typical PVC insulation found on most lower-cost or generic A/V cabling then you do run a somewhat higher risk of developing a problem. Prolonged or repeated exposure to elevated temperature and airflow rates can, over time, result in degradation of the PVC insulation in large part due to plasticizer migration and volatility. This can lead to increased brittleness and crazing in the exposed portion of the insulation, which could eventually result in failure of the insulation. Under these circumstances the most likely result is that the protection circuit that protects the output stage of the audio amplifier would kick-in, or worse, the output stage of the amplifier could self-destruct; depending on how well the unit was designed and built. There are very few (well-designed) audio amplifiers that would pose a fire hazard when the speaker outputs are shorted. You have a couple of fairly simple choices to effectively mitigate the threat of potential problems: (1) replace the loudspeaker cabling with either a jacketed loudspeaker cabling or use polyolefin (i.e., polypropylene) insulated cables; or (2) install 1/2" to 1" diameter plenum rated or riser-rated halogen-free (aka low smoke zero halogen or LSZH) nonmetallic corrugated flexible conduit (aka “innerduct,”) over the (speaker) cabling wherever the cabling passes through the air ducting. Electrical and datacom/telecom suppliers, better hardware stores and A/V dealers/installers should have innerduct in stock. One last item - you can reduce the amount of self-heating that occurs with higher cable resistances by choosing loudspeaker cabling that has a larger wire gauge. Speaker cabling is generally available in stock wire gauge sizes ranging from 4 AWG up to 16 AWG and higher; the lower the number the larger the gauge of wire. As a general rule of thumb you should always use the lowest wire gauge you can afford and never less than a single run of 14 AWG cable. Though rarely a significant issue, self-heating varies in direct proportion to the cable’s resistance, (which increases as the wire gauge decreases, i.e., smaller overall conductor cross-sectional area and/or the cable length increases,) the impedance of the loudspeaker and the power output of the audio amplifier. Question : Is there a home theater speaker system that sounds just as amazing as Bose but at a cheaper price?
I have always wanted a Bose anything because I love the quality and sound from everything they have done. I know they can be a bit spendy. If there are some home theater speakers from other well known and reliable brands that work just as well I am definitely all ears. I am just in the market of buying a really great speaker system!

Answer:
Call into any real Hi-Fi store and they will show you any number of speakers which will out perform Bose for considerably less money, a few that spring instantly to mind are Bowers and Wilkins, Dali Ikon and Tannoy.Don't buy into the 'Bose are best because they're expensive' ideal.Bose aren't expensive, they're dear, there is a difference.

Question : Should all the speakers on a home theater system emit sounds?
I have the Coby 5.1 Channel home theater speaker system. I hooked it up but I only hear sound from the front left and front right speakers. Should I be hearing sound from the center and surround left and right speakers as well?

Answer:
all depends on what settings are on. there should be a button on the actual reciever and the remote to switch the different types of sound that could be played and what speakers are to be used. ALTHOUGH, the reason you may have all of the speakers activated and you only hear audio from the from front left, middle, and front right, is because the channel or movie that you are playing does not have 5.1 audio. meaning only the front will work and possibly the back but it will play the exact same audio as the front only a lot quieter. every movie is now made at least 5.1 so no worries with that. television channels do not ALL include 5.1, but some may!hope that helped a little!

Question : where can i find a service center in the Philippines for xenon 5.1 home theater speaker system?
Mine is an AX-305 model which has stopped working.

Answer:
Dindo - the vast majority in this forum live in North America, predominately in the USA, and have NO IDEA what products, services, or prices are available in the Philippines. Unfortunately, probably a majority couldn't even find the Philippines on a map. Try posting Philippines specific questions in Yahoo Answers International-Philippines, where you will be communicating directly with people who live there and might have the personal knowledge to help.

Question : DuraBrand Home Theater Speaker System Model HT-391 NEED to know what remote to use if lost original one?
I lost the original remote for my sound surround and dont know what one i would go buy if I lost its original one? Plz help if can.Thank youDuraBrand Home Theater Speaker System Model HT-391

Answer:
If you go to remotes.com, you are able to input the model number of your remote and find a replacement online. That would be the cheapest way to go because being that Durabrand is a cheaper brand, there aren't many universal remotes that have codes for them. The only ones that would probably support Durabrand would be a Logitech Harmony remote, and the cheapest one that they have is about $90. That is probably 3 times the cost of that surround sound.
