Fabulous LED LCD 1080P HDTV

What a marvelous TV! I love it! The High Definition is unbelievable. The colors just pop out and are so vivid. You see colors that you never noticed before on a conventional TV. The internet and netcast are awesome and easy to set up. The sound is fine and more than adequate for TV speakers with lots of volume, it goes to a scale of 100 and I usually set mine around 10. I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone. My only complaint and it really isn't a problem, is that everywhere I look, including LG's website, states that the contrast is 4,000,000:1 but the box mine came in states 3,000,000:1. Could someone even tell the difference between 3 or 4,000,000???? I don't know, I would just like to be told what the specs actually are.

so far so good

This is my first HD TV, so I don't have much comparison. The features look good, and picture quality is good.
I did some professional test about the timing and refresh rate. Those specifications are all cheating im my opinion. But to be fair, since there is no standard for these specifications, I believe most, if not all, HDTV have this problem. It says 120Hz, but the real highest it can reach is 60Hz. It says 2.6 ms response time, but the actual value is not any better than regular LCD monitors, which is normally 8 or 16 ms, depending on their own definition (no one knows how they define it). I heard from some experts that they can't distinguish 120/240Hz from 60 Hz. This is ture for sure. Given the slow response time, it is useless even with real high refresh rate.

Beyond my expectations!

I don't know anything about consumer electronics but bought this model television here. I could not be more pleased. The picture is crystal clear.
I thought long and hard before I bought anything this large and expensive from a website, but I had absolutely NO problem!
I should have paid more attention to my shipping options when it came to free shipping. I thought it took a few days longer to arrive than it should have, but chalk that up to my not having read all the details.
I did try to do my homework about brands and features, etc. I must have done alright because I don't see how this television could be any better. I'm going to eventually investigate how I can do the wireless hookup to my computer so that I can do the Netflix instant download thing.
You can buy a cheaper tv this size but you might get what you pay for.

Wonderful TV...a big improvement for us. Excellent packing and delivery. Feels like the people are going to jump off the screen and join you in the living room. No problems with set up.

Great unit, but delay lag problematic for video games; audio sync fixable

This is a great TV: awesome picture and features.

- picture brightness is great: I'm using it in a bright living room (with windows on either side of TV), and the LED screen is bright enough to watch w/o problem.

- overall features great: Assume I've gushed on about the picture quality, the number of inputs (including several on the side for easy access), the neat 'video mute' feature (under energy saver) so I can play a music CD on my DVD player and not have to see the DVD's stupid music screen, and so on. (Hmm, I guess I could play mp3s on a thumb drive directly from the tv itself; I haven't tried that yet.)

- Audio sync problem fixed via firmware: As others have mentioned, after 45min-1hr, the audio became noticeably out of sync from the picture; this seemed to be equally true for all inputs. It wouldn't get *worse* after more time, but it was bad enough that it looked dubbed. My initial hack was to switch to a different input then switch back to the program, and it would re-sync. However, after upgrading the firmware via the internet this problem disappeared. A few notes:
~ getting the internet connected took me a bit; even though DHCP should have happened at plug-in, I had to turn my wireless hub off/on in order to get the TV to get its IP address;
~ In order to trigger the firmware update, I had to press 'netcast' or 'widgets' on the remote; I think it was at that point that the TV automatically sought out the update.
~ it took two firmware updates in a row to reach the most recent version (6.0.something, I think).

- Noticeable delay lag for video games: about a tenth of a second or even a bit more (after some measurements and calculating). This is acceptable for many games, but for Wii Music every note I play is off beat, and for Dance Dance Revolution a perfect step scores between "great" and "good". (This is a lag between when the signal is received and when it actually gets displayed -- it doesn't matter for normal TV since you'd never notice if your entire movie is shifted back 0.1s. N.B. "Delay lag" is *not* related to "pixel response time".)
~ [Delay lag on other models: I dragged my Wii Music down to Best Buy and tried it on several similar models I was considering. The Samsung LEDs I tried also had ~0.10s lag; Sony Bravia LEDs had ~0.06s lag (still noticeable); no noticeable lag on LCD Viera or Sharp Aquos *LCD*, but (weirdest part) the Sharp Aquos *LED* did have lag (~0.10s). All the models I tried were 40-46"; most were 120Hz. I hope all the time I spent measuring helps out somebody else!]

Expensive 26" LG flatscreen HGTV

Nice unit but paid too much for it's size . Had a size constraint due to location. Amazon delivered what I ordered though. Great service but to expensive for 26" TV.

LG = Poor Quality

I purchased two LG televisions. Within a month one had to be shipped to LG for service for vibrating speakers. Not long after, the 52 inch had to be serviced due to poor picture and over heating. Then the smaller one needed a new remote sensor. Soon after the remote sensor in the 52" went out and was fixed. Now both remote sensors have gone out again and even with an extended warranty purchased through LG, they will not cover any more repairs because the cost of repairing exceeds the TV value, but they won't replace the TV either. I wrote to the CEO of LG USA nearly a month ago. Still no reply. I would guess LG has a bunch of bad remote sensors out there. I am now filing a complaint with my state consumer affairs department.

Great second tv

This is a great tv. we use it in our master bedroom. Has all the features I wanted. We have dropped cable tv except for basic cable. I use my computer to connect the tv to my netflix account. I watch movies and netfilx content when I want and the reception is great. It is so easy to connect and the color and clarity are great.

Great HDTV!

After returning 3 HDTVs (Samsung, Sharp and Sanyo) I'm sooooo happy with this one. A perfect picture and great sound. I barely have to raise the sound to hear it, which is a problem with many other HDTVs. There's no distortion of the images and the color is perfect. I was almost going to buy a 22-inch model, but it looked small in the store, so I went for the 26-inch and I'm glad I did. A good size if you're about 10' away from the set. The on-screen menu is a little difficult to figure out ... but once you get the hang of it ... it's ok. A definate buy at a very good price. Also, it's always good dealing with Amazon - trustworthy, efficient, competitive pricing and good quality products.

TV is great, customer service stinks

I already own a large LG in the living room which came without any glitch but I did buy it at a local store. I got this smaller one for the bedroom and have no complaints so far about the actual TV. HOWEVER...I only received 4 bolts to assemble a stand that takes 8. I filled out the online warranty at LG website (website really needs some work) and then asked for more bolts. I've had to provide another proof of purchase to get the bolts (still waiting) when I already filled out their mile long warranty investigation. I highly suggest an independent warranty purchase. LG's customer service is not on the ball.

For the price I paid, can't complain at all. The television is a great "bedroom" size. The picture quality is good, the sound is good, and the features are good. I also like the remote as it is very easy to use.

Great tv for the price

I have had this TV for about 2 months and really am enjoying it. It has a great picture and color clarity. Works well with DVD, VHS, blu-ray/ PS3, wii, and a computer hooked up. I have all of this hooked up constantly and there were plenty of different types of ports to make it all work. The only negative is the menu system. For some things you have to go through 3 or 4 screens to get to the setting that you want. Not a huge deal, but it could be better.

Just got it

I just received the TV today. I must say it looks pretty good. Better than any other 32" LED LCD I could find except for the 5400 model. I will update later.

PROS:(so far) Great picture the colors are so beautiful especially after calibration, sound is okay, inputs, I like the remote, Menus are easy to use, picture wizard helps a lot, Amazon shipped promptly

CONS: The owners manual is ignorant. Its not organized well at all. There is a CD that came with it, but I would rather not have to deal with that. THE TV IS NOT SILVER GRAY! ITS BLACK. I wanted a silver gray finish since I was designing a room. Trumotion is garbage. Its choppy and gives me a headache. The TV looks great with it off. I noticed it watching the World Cup games and watching blu-rays :(

I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for a 32" LED. Best deal and picture that I've seen and I've researched for the past month now. In fact, all the LGs I viewed were to me and spec-wise best in their respective class.

*IF ANYONE HAS ANY PROFESSIONAL CALIBRATION SETTINGS PLEASE POST THEM HERE! I would appreciate it.*

Just Ordered Another One...

This is an excellent TV, especially for the price point - beautiful, sharp colors, great viewing angle, very thin LED design, and light weight as compared to traditional LCDs. While I would generally prefer a larger screen, the space I bought it for - Armoire in a bedroom, would only accommodate 32in. This is a perfect size for a bedroom or smaller living space. I compared this TV against a leading brand 32in LED at a local store and while this LED was slightly thicker and heavier, the colors on the screen were much brighter and facial features much more defined than the competition - and best of all its less expensive. The design is very modern - sharp lines, thin LED. It states Silver Grey in the description, but the bezel and stand are glossy black. I like it so well, I just ordered another one on Amazon.com!

I can see!

Especially very good for people who don't know squat about programming the tele for certain color settings the menu makes it easy. LED lighting on an LCD display makes it seem less intense than other televisions of this same quality and size. Best thing is the LG energy saving option saves you more than a few $$ which is a total bonus for these electronics

Rating :

first impression

I got the tv yesterday. The picture is fantastic. The facial features of actors are extremely clear.
I used a digital optical connection and cable to connect the tv to my stereo. The stereo is just an 85 W sony a/v with two speakers.
When operated this way, the sound is as good as the picture.
The paper owner's manual is a bit of a negative. A disc is included, but I haven't tried that yet.
I would definitely recommend this tv.
Amazon had the lowest price and free shipping.

Very Pleased!

This is my first flatscreen TV. I bought the TV based on 4 specific features: 120Hz refresh rate, the LED backlight (and resulting power savings), the ability to play video files from USB, and 24P Real Cinema feature. I'm glad I made the purchase. Setup was easy, with only 8 screws to attach the stand to the TV. The unit is stable. I'm impressed by how thin the TV is. All the front lights can be turned off. The screen is a matte finish (no reflective cover). The TV doesn't have networking capability, but I wanted to buy the best TV I could afford and then use a Blu-ray player to provide the network interface.

I didn't know much about HDTVs a week ago and what I learned after about 8 hours of research and reviews is that the picture I actually see on the screen is heavily dependent on the source signal and the many different conversions the signal may go through (frame rate, aspect ratio change, deinterlacing, etc.) before it actually gets to the screen (the result of not feeding it a pure 1080p HDTV signal over an HDMI cable). I was really frustrated over looking at TVs in retail stores because doing comparisons side-by-side, I figured, was useless unless I knew what the original source video was and whether or not all the settings in the TV were set right. I ended up buying this TV because I figured it would give a great picture so long as I fed it with good source video. So far, that's true.

Right now, I only have a DVD player and a USB hard drive connected to it. My cheap little $20 DVD player outputs in 480i or 480p. The 480i signal has less jaggies on this TV than 480p. My guess is that the deinterlacer in the DVD player is low quality, so the 480p signal fed to the TV is not so good. I'm confident a 480p signal will look better once it's coming from a decent upconverting DVD player or Blu-ray player. All my anamorphic widescreen (1.78, 1.85, and 2.35) DVDs display great with the TV set to 16x9. 4:3 TV stuff (like old X-Files videos) display properly too. DVDs are clear, crisp and smooth.

I'm really impressed by the ability to play videos from a USB drive. So far I've played .avi, .mkv, .vob and .divx files up to 720p quality and file sizes between 500 MB and 2.1 GB. (When I hit the Info button on the remote, it looks like most of my .avi and .mkv files are encoded as MP4 and H.264, if that helps.) Windows .wmv files do not play. Quality is beautiful! No stuttering or pixilation. One problem I've faced, however, is the audio and video getting out of sync on some videos after about 20 minutes of play (the video starts to lag behind). I've been able to re-sync it by pressing stop and play. (Maybe it'll get fixed with a firmware update? Or maybe it's a problem with my files?) By the way, USB videos can be resumed from where you left off if you press stop or if the video stops. Once in awhile, videos will just stop on their own, but I'm able to start them again and they'll pick up and play just fine where they left off. I don't know if that's an issue with the file, the USB drive, or the TV. Aspect ratio modes are limited in USB mode: I only get the option of "Original size" or "Full" (which expands the video to the entire TV). Haven't had any problem yet with the "Full" setting because all my video files appear to be encoded in widescreen formats.

The LED backlighting is adjustable, either by changing the AV mode (standard, cinema, sports, etc) or by setting the power saving feature to "Auto". At full strength, I see some LED light vignetting at the corners of the screen when there's just a black image being displayed. (I see the same thing on my LED PC monitors).

I don't have much to compare it to, but the remote works just fine for me. It took a little bit to figure out how to get to all the features (especially the 24P Cinema Mode, which is a couple menus deep).

Sound is just fine for my tastes. The volume runs from 0 to 100 and gets plenty loud enough to be too loud when sitting about 7 feet away. Sound quality is fine and actually has a pretty good frequency response range...it's not tinny or muffled. ClearVoice does add some crispness to voices.

TruMotion is kinda neat. It "interpolates" and inserts additional frames which really smooths out motion on any video I've fed it so far. Sometimes the results are desirable...sometimes not. On a "I am Legend" DVD, for example, setting the TruMotion to "Low" smooths out the video and adds to the quality in my opinion. It does add a little bit of the "Soap Opera Effect"--unnaturally clear and smooth video when compared to traditional 24-frame per second movies, so I just turn TruMotion off if I don't like the result. On some of my HD video from the USB drive, TruMotion makes motion more blurry, so I just turn it off. Again, the benefit seems to be dependent on the frame rate and quality of the original video signal.

The 120Hz refresh rate and the 24P Real Cinema mode are all about displaying film and video at their native frame rates without the need to do "pull down" frame rate coversions to the video signal which can cause judder (stuttering). I'm still learning about "judder" and "pull down" so I really don't have anything to compare good vs. bad video quality. I can say that I don't experience any stuttering no matter what DVDs I play.

I love the quality I'm getting out of this TV right now and it's only going to get better when I can actually feed it full 1080p signals. I will definitely look at LG LED-LcD TVs when it comes time to buy a bigger TV for the living room.

I learned a lot about this TV's features by reading the online manual at LG before I bought. I now have the CD manual which is 178 pages and goes into a lot more detail about what the TV can do. If you want a copy, send me an email at rgknowlton at hotmail dot com.

Perfect for Blu-ray and Gaming

I purchased this HDTV off Amazon about two weeks ago, and I am beyond pleased with it. I replaced a 26" Vizio 720p LCD with this. The features that really drove me to this TV is the LED backlighting and the 120Hz processing. This TV has a stunning picture quality with some of the deepest blacks and great color. The 120Hz TruMotion has really gotten me though. It makes everything much more realistic, almost to a point to being scary sometimes. Watching Blu-rays with the TruMotion on the highest setting almost takes you out of the movie. It's beyond cinematic, and it seems like I'm just looking out a window watching the actors in real life. It's not bad by any means, and in fact, I can't go back to not having it, but it may be too much for some people. You do have the option to adjust it, and you can even turn it off altogether.

I use this TV currently for the following devices: an Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Gateway PC, and Comcast Digital HD package. Gaming is great. I've noticed everything I've played so far has been super smooth and the response time is phenomenal. I've tried the following 360 games on it with great results: Halo 3, Need for Speed; Shift, Alan Wake, Modern Warfare 2, and Split/Second. The Wii looks a bit worse on this TV than on the small Vizio, but I imagine it's the increased screen size. I have the Wii hooked up with component cables and set to 480p widescreen, but playing Super Mario Galaxy 2, The Conduit, No More Heroes 2 looked kind of bad. I know the Wii is not an HD console, but it's a bit disheartening to see some of the better Wii's graphics downgraded. Now, with the PS3, I don't game to much, and I've yet to play a game on it with this TV, but as far as the Blu-ray goes, it's been outstanding. This TV is enough to make me just skip the theater and wait for movies to release on BD. Blu-ray movies have such amazing clarity on this set, and the 3-dimensional feel is incredible. I played The Dark Knight, and the movie is so deep. With this kind of picture, I think I can wait a decade for 3D HDTVs to prove themselves more worth it to me. My Comcast HD looks nice, too. I know it's not 1080p, but there's no complaint. The TruMotion is great in the case of sports, and watching Braves baseball is more enjoyable due to it.

I'm loving my TV, and I'd say traditional LCDs should be no more. LED is so much better, and the LGs are priced very reasonably. I can't believe I got this for $850.

What more do you want???!!!

I have never purchased a television online. I was pleased in ALL aspects of this purchase. My last TV was an HD 60Hz 27 inch. I was nowhere prepared for the picture that I would get from this HDTV. The 120HZ and the contrast make a picture that is almost creepy at how real it is! The setup was easy and I only needed to glance through the instruction manual. I hope LG continues to produce 37 inch HDTVs. I can only imagine what the picture will look like when the refresh goes up!! I would purchase this again without a second thought!

Overall performance of LG LCD 37LE5300

This LG HD LCD 27LE5300 this is an overall exceptional HD Television. The Qualify, Reliability, Performance and ease of use is the best TV performance I have experienced. I have a Samsung 52 inch HD TV and an Westinghouse 32 inch HD TV. Neither matches this LG HD TV model. The only drawback that it has is that LG does not include a paper User Manual. They provide a CD disc with the the User Manual. Since my LG is not even on the same floor as my TV, when I needed a particular answer for setup, I had to run downstairs and look it up and then run upstairs to try to apply what I looked up. This sometime didn't work and it was back to the computer. I ended up printing numerous pages to setup the TV correctly. I still give this TV 5 stars due to the mostly ease in setting up with out the manual.

Stunning picture, energy efficient!

I bought this model to replace an already great 720p LCD HDTV, but wanted an LED model. The LG doesn't disappoint. Stunningly clear and deep picture presents an almost 3D effect especially when viewing Blu-ray discs, and uses only 60% of the energy of the non-LED model. Definitely worth the upgrade.

I have tried all the other places in the back of my stereo but get nothing! Its not the wires as they are brand new. Can anyone help me please its driving me mad!

Answer:
Most TVs output analog audio all the time. Most probably you connected "Audio Input" ports instead of "Audio Output".Also, as a test signal use the sound from a TV station or component input,If you input audio over HDMI, some TVs don't output audio over the analog audio output. Finally, if your stereo has a digital input audio port, use that. You will get multi-channel audio (when available).

Question : LG LCD Tv volume is messed up, how do I fix it?
We have had storms recently. The surge protector ended up taking the brunt of the storm from the off and on of the electric, but not the volume on the TV is messed up. Sometimes we have to turn it up to 70 to hear it well. Usually around 15 was great. Is there a setting in the menu I need to adjust? What type of sound should I have it on? Standard, Music, Cinema, Sport, Game. Thanks for any info!

Answer:
usually those surge protectors offer to re imburse damage from surge if it causedthat. So call the company that made the surgepower bar and tell them what happened, theyshould replace the TV, the strike must have been really close to your antenna, do you have the antenna and coax grounded?

Question : I have a LG Lcd tv and it has XD Engine, should I have it on or off?
some sites say about turning tv enhauncements off?

Answer:
Everything I've seen on the feature seems to imply its going to be more personal taste than anything else. Like in theory it should be improving the image and so it kind of should be on. But some people dislike the manner in which it works and after having tried it, felt turning it off gave them the better overall image out of their LG. So you should do the same. Leave it on at times and off at times and see how your eyes find its impact (positive or negative). Either choice you make is equally valid. The key is that its your choice. Its your TV, not someone else.
