Plenty of Set, for US

Ours was an early Christmas present. It was simple to un-box and set up.
Even after connecting it to our Stereo, Digital Cable, VHS player and a DVD/CD changer, we have inputs to spare.

The front panel input for Picture Chips got a workout when we hosted a Family Christmas.

We are "empty nesters", our sons and their wives made it here for the Holiday. They were delighted to share their pictures on a 42 inch screen.
Next Time; they'll bring along their Game Systems.

I doubt that WE will outgrown this set.

Why go to the movies?

The Facts:

I bought my unit from 6save through Amazon for about $690 with Free Shipping. The set arrived well packaged and was very simple to set up. The stand uses a few phillips screws and that's it.

I use my tv only with my Playstation 3 for a few games and my Blu-Ray titles and my large DVD collection. I don't watch TV in high def or standard def, there just is never anything on to bother, so I cannot comment on watching a TV signal.

I purchased a way overpriced HDMI cable as I forgot to get one off Amazon when I ordered the TV. I advise you to get a cheapie for the $2 or $3 Amazon has them for. My cousin has a cheap one and i see no advantage to my $35 robbery cable from Wal-Mart.

The Review:

For watching movies in your bedroom get this television. Don't bother going to the movies. There are no crunching popcorn eaters, no crying babies or people on their cell phones. This TV gets the job done.

For under $700 in the current market, I don't see how you can find anything better than this Panasonic. I shopped for a long time before settling on this 720p model. My cousin has the same set in 1080p and has been very happy with the Panasonic brand also, but I simply cannot find the difference between the two unless you are an idiot and sit 2 feet away from the screen. For this size TV save the money and go 720p, bragging rights are for suckers. The 42" size is perfect for my bedroom. I have a large window that gets a a lot of sunlight during the day, and this TV does a good job of maintaing a lustrous picture in my bright room. At night, the quality is really stunning. The black performance is excellent for sure. Audio is decent, but you'd want a surround sound setup anyway. The TV is nicely styled and the remote control is very good with large chunky buttons.

The clarity and depth of the image on this television are top notch. I watched The Dark Knight, Casino Royale, Wall * E and Transformers all on Blu-Ray to see how well the TV performed and I have nothing but satisfaction for my purchase. The Playstation 3 games never looked so good.

You can imagine going from a 10 year-old 28" Sanyo CRT, this is quite an upgrade. However, as is the characteristic with most CRTs, the color was much better on the old Sanyo compared to this, but i haven't seen any of these flat panels, LCD or Plasma that have the saturation of my old set. Ask graphic designers if they prefer the color on an LCD or CRT display for their computer, they'll almost always say CRT is better.

Some people have complained about the quality of the Noise Reduction, and I do see to a degree what they are talking about, but again how close to the TV are you sitting? And how perfect can something get? Some of what you see as "noise" really is just the actual image texture. Besides most of these flat TVs i see with noise reduction on have always made the picture look plasticky, I just leave it off all the time. No problem here.

To sum this up, the image has a deeper, richer quality than most of the LCDs I looked at and factoring in the price difference to other sets out there, I simply have to give a high recommendation for this plasma TV. If you are looking at something in the 37"-42" size and you can find one for a good price like I did, buy this TV.

The best 42 inch TV overall, skip LCDs

This TV provides a great value for what your pay. I bought it on amazon for 700, and not only was it the cheapest option I could find, it has plenty of pros that put it over almost every TV.

I was pro LCD for a time (thought it was the way of the future). After looking, reading reviews, I honestly can't find a single reason to choose another TV. LCDs have a longer life span, usually weight a bit less, and possibly better color. Plasmas have a better speed (480 hz), darker black level, better contrast, better viewing angle, and better pricing. Therefore, plasmas have an overall edge in picture quality (especially if you go dollar for dollar on pricing).

I was worried about the heat a plasma may generate. My 26" LCD Olevia raises the room temperature a couple of degrees, my plasma doesn't. Big plus. Screen doesn't feel hot either. CEVA delivery was excellent, they take all the worry about you screwing up moving and installing the TV. Extremely timely deliver too.

Oh, 720p vs 1080p has been documented on the web to not matter in TVs below 50", just google it.

It was going to buy either this TV, the samsung 46" A750 Samsung LN46A750 46-Inch 1080p DLNA LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color, or sony 46" XBR6 Sony Bravia XBR KDL-46XBR6 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV. Save like 800 dollars and actually have money to afford cable HDTV or a blu-ray player with movies.

Great Plasma TV for the Money!

I purchased this TV during Black Friday. So far I have been extremely pleased with it. "Burn In" is really not an issue with newer plasmas, rather Image Retention or IR is what people need to be concerned with and even that not a terrible concern as IR normally go away fairly quickly. I have personally not had any problems with IR. I did turn down the brightness level below 50 for the first appx. 100 hrs to "break-in" the tv. I don't know if it is necessary to be honest, but I decided to caution on the safe side just in case.

Pros:
+Great value
+Great picture
+Viera Link (I can turn up the volume on my Denon receiver witht he tv remote and also when I turn off the tv power it also turns off the receiver)
+Convenient HDMI input in front of tv under flip-down panel

Cons:
-Not many "frills" such as PIP, etc
-Plasmas use more energy than LCDs

Neutral (could be negative for some or might not matter
*720p - While compairing the 1080p equivalent of this tv at the store I could not tell a difference while standing 6 or more feet away. If are sitting closer than 6 you may notice the "screen door" effect and it gets worse the closer you get. If you will be sitting close to this tv, for example - maybe playing video games, you may want to consider paying a few hundred dollars more for the 1080p model.
*Number of HDMI inputs - Just note that there are only 2 inputs on the back. The 3rd is in the front. I run everything through my receiver first and run only 1 HDMI to the tv so its not a problem for me.

I'm sold- I'll take a Panasonic Plasma over any LCD

I currently own a 42" LCD, but was looking to pick up a plasma for a relative. I had never owned a plasma before, so I was a little apprehensive about the so-called burn-in issues, and increased power usage.

I was debating between this Panasonic plasma, and a rival Samsung PNA450 set. Ultimately, after reading through hundreds of posts at AVSForum, decided that the Samsung only offered a swivel stand as the price premium over the Panasonic. Most users seemed to prefer the Panasonic for color reproduction, as well as reliability. Of course, don't take my word for it- I encourage you to view both TVs in-store at your local Best Buy or Fry's or HHGregg. I had a chance to view both TVs side by side at Best Buy, and I felt the colors were both brighter and more accurate on the Panasonic.

Out of the box, even with the settings turned down for the first 100 hours of break-in, the picture is incredible. The colors are bright, accurate, and the blacks are blacker than even the best LCDs, IMO. And this is all on a budget plasma. I haven't noticed any burn-in so far, so hopefully there won't be any issues on that front.

Power consumption-wise, the peak power usage is above 300 watts, but that's only if you're running at full brightness, in vivid mode, with a white screen flashing all day. With optimal settings, this tv consumes about the same amount of power as your typical LCD.

I'm definitely going to be looking at Panasonic plasmas for my next television.

WORTH THE MONEY

I purchased this tv three years ago ($1200) to put into my entertainment center. At the time, the Sony and Samsung were rated very high for a 32" screen size. After careful review I decided for the price and quality the Panasonic was a better choice. I am now in the market for another tv that size and I decided to google the same model # and see that the price is less than half. I will certaintly be purchasing another Panasonic TC-32LX50.

Great TV

This is my first LCD TV and I love it. I know they say that 32 inches isn't that big for a flat panel TV, but I thought my 28 inch crt TV was big. This one is monstrous. Picture is great, sound is great. I don't doubt that there are better TV's out there but if this is your first venture into the world of HDTV's you won't be disappointed. I haven't gotten the full HD experience yet since I don't have digital cable or a blue ray player. But even regular TV is more crisp and clear. The only thing it doesn't have that I would like is a hookup for a computer monitor. But it does have s-video, so you can still do that if you want. Just have to use a different connection.

Customer Review :

The 42PZ85U lives up to its reviews.

As others have done, I spent time to research both plasma and LCD units in the 40" to 42" range. The reviews on this site were very helpful toward my choosing the Panasonic Plasma. Once ordered though Amazon, delivery was prompt, actually arriving two days earlier than initially promised. The delivery was smooth - "white glove" delivery was accomplished as promised, with two deliverymen who set-up the unit, assembling the base, inspecting the unit, and turning it on, testing for a picture. We decided, in my situation wherein I have storage, to leave the carton, in the event that a need to return the unit might occur. Both men removed their shoes, and during set-up told me they were happy to have their jobs, as both had been laid off from a factory where they were previously employed. They were sub-contractors of Pilot.
I'm not a techie, but I was still able to get the 42PZ85U set-up and connected with my Dish box, and the new DVD player (Panasonic S-54) easily, by carefully following the instructions. I recommend that you read the intructions several times, don't rush, and your set-up will be easy. The picture is awesome, the colors are brilliant, and the HD programming is clear and vibrant. The 42PZ85U has exceeded my expectations. Now I ask myself why I didn't do this sooner.

Great Panasonic Plasma TV

I've long been a Panasonic fan. They make great and reliable electronics. So it wasn't hard for me to narrow down my choice of flat panels as I finally made a decision to buy. Wasn't a big fan of plasmas until this TV came along. Easy to set up out of the box, fantastic color, looks great in a well lighted room. Some initial difficulty in the set up menu...establishing separate component hook ups. But no big deal. I give the TV 4 out of five stars because I have never given a product 5 stars. Buy this TV -- you will not be disappointed. One last comment, Amazon shipped the TV in a very timely manner.

Does not disappoint!

I've never owned an HD/plasma TV and was somewhat intimidated by the vast number of choices out there! I settled on this one for three reasons: its high customer rating, a friend's high recommendation and the TV's Energy Star rating. I chose this TV over a comparable LG for those three reasons as well. I feel like I got an unbeatable deal! I've had it for three weeks with absolutely no issues; the picture is perfect, the TV is easy to setup and operate, and it has all of the standard features of any high-end plasma. And while I'm not a tekkie, tekkies are impressed by it! Based on my experience with this TV, I will next be buying a Panasonic Blu-Ray disc player.

Very happy about this purchase.

I wanted to replace my 32" Sony WEGA TV with a TV that was less bulky (the Sony weighs more than 200 lbs) and after reading the reviews here I bought this TV. This TV takes up less space than my old Sony and the screen is 1" taller and 8" wider than the Sony. The picture and sound are great. I hooked it up with basic cable (analog switching to digital) and digital satellite and everything looks and sounds great. I think the picture quality is better than on my brother's Sony LCD HDTV. Amazon was sold out of this set so I ordered from Butterfly Photo (through Amazon) and got the set in 2 days. Set up was easy, I did it myself using the supplied stand in under 2 hours.

Panasonic doesn't care about its customers

I received this product a couple week ago. Within the first week, the remote control completely stopped working (and yes, I did try changing the batteries). I contacted Panasonic's "viera concierge" (a glorified name for customer service) immediately (on Dec 22, 2008), explained that this was a brand new TV and asked them to expedite a remote. Because the TV has no channel/volume controls directly on the set, the TV is basically useless without a remote. Well, two weeks later, I still have yet to receive my remote, and emails to the representative have gone unanswered. Basically, I am left with a useless TV. I don't believe Panasonic could do LESS to provide support for a $900+ TV.

A perfect small room TV

Panasonic Viera TC-32LZ800
Pro: After one week of use in our master bedroom, my family and I must thank Panasonic for having produced such a wonderful product. I havn't tested the Viera Link yet, but such accessories are not currently important to us. Together with the Blu-Ray DVD player, one can count the hairs on a person from a mile away!
Con: None at this time, but based on our experience with the 50 or 52 inch Panasonic LCD, I believe that the reliability will be excellent.

Amazing TV!

Wow this TV is great! The picture quality everything is top notch. The only con for me is the motion blur there's no 120 hz so if motion bothers you you might want to consider getting one with 120 hz but if it doesn't get this TV right now! Wow its amazing! Great for gamers because there's basically 0 input lag so as soon as you press the button it appears on the screen instantly! I recommend this TV for anyone that doesn't care about motion blur but to me a little blur in fast motion isn't a big deal you only notice it if you pay attention.

Great TV (when using HDMI)

The picture quality and sound are phenomenal on this TV when using HDMI cables. Even with non-HD programming, the picture quality far exceeds other 32 inch LCDs I have seen. My only complaint with this television is that when connecting auxiliary components such as an old Tivo or an old DVD player using standard RCA cables, the sound has to be turned up almost as high as possible. This occurred with anything I tried to connect using RCA cables. The picture however is quite clear even when using RCA cables.

Overall, this is a really slick looking TV with excellent picture and sound quality when using it for what its meant for.

Great value for the price

I ordered this TV based upon an excellent review in Consumer Reports. The price from 6AVE was excellent.

I upgraded my cable TV service to HD and got a DVR at the same time. I have to say I was truly astounded at the quality of the picture on this TV - excellent quality, even when viewing the screen from off-center. The colors were rich and the details crisp.

I also enjoyed viewing the hi-res pictures on my SD memory card which the TV handles, although I wish there were a few more seconds of viewing time per slide in slide show mode.

I was able to connenct my laptop to the TV's PC connector, and while the resultant picture was excellent, I was only able to achieve 1024x768 resolution (higher resolutions resulted in overscan). I was hoping to get up to the full 1920x1080 resolution to show my pictures in really hi-res.

In summary, an excellent HDTV, and I highly recommend it!

This is my second LCD TV. The first one is a Sony. As good as the Sony is this Panasonic is better. The color rendtion and contrast is perfect. With the 120hz screen refresh rate blur from fast motion is non existent. There is nothing that I do not like about this television.

Excellent!

Standard Definition channels looks great via DirectTV. I have yet upgraded my TIVO DirectTV box to HD, but the SD pictures actually look very good. SD picture cannot be compared to HD picture, but this TV does display SD picture very well.

DVD picture from the XBOX 360 via HDMI looks great.

1080P games looks excellent. No lag issue.

Connected a laptop via VGS to the TV to watch some online movies and they look great! What a surprise.

Opinions about complains I have seem online.
1. Reflection on the screen
I have this TV in my bed room and I mainly use it at night with minimal lighting. If reflection really annoys you, you may want to consider LZ85 or other bands that use matte screen. IMHO, picture on glossy screen produces much better picture that matte screen. I compared LZ800, LZ85 and a few other bands matte screens side by side in a retail store to draw the conclusion.

2. Fan noise
Not noticable unless I stick my ear next to the TV (like an inch apart from the TV).

3. Color Text not sharp
Not using the TV as a monitor to read color text. Therefore, not a concern.

4. Backlight Bleeding
Fortunately, not experiencing it.

The online price for this TV is an excellent buy because of the quality, and craftmanship. I am very impressed with Panasonic whom can focus on Plasma for 2008 line up, but still manage to produce an extremely high quality LCD. This model definitely is comparable or even better than Sony XBR 6/7 or Samsung 6/7 series. A big plus with Panansonic is her web site provides all specific details about the TV.

Good luck searching and recommend you look at the TV in person before making your final decision.

Panasonic, no question. Philips is a mid-range manufacturer with a history of mediocre products, while Panasonic is arguably the top TV manufacturer worldwide.

Question : Which LCD TV can best compared with the picture quality of a Panasonic Viera plasma?
Which LCD TV can best compared with the picture quality of a Panasonic Viera plasma?

Answer:
None of them can - the Panasonic Viera plasmas have far better motion resolution, deeper blacks and better color accuracy.Add to that they can now go 100,000 hours at maximum brightness with a 100% white signal before they hit 50% output and you're looking at a TV that you could watch 10 hours a day with a white signal for 30 years before it gets dim enough to bother your viewing experience. All the experts agree - plasma is where it's at.http://www.hometheatermag.com/lcds/208hdface/

Question : How is Panasonic LCD TV - TC-26LX70 ?

This is a really nice 26" LCD with 2 HDMI inputs and 1366X768 (720p) resolution. Pricing seems to be in the $600-$750 range. Panasonic makes a quality LCD, as well as plasma HDTV. You could do a whole lot worse for a small LCD HDTV.

Answer:
That's close....about as close as I am to the Fort Wayne Transmitters....and I can't get 55. But the rest I can.Call the TV stations, see if they are running LOW POWER right now. That's what 55 is doing UNTIL they build new studios....OR you can put an outdoor antenna up, with a Power Amp on it, rather than the table top antenna....OR you can inspect your cabling and make sure its not damaged....Or you can actually COMPLAIN to a TV engineer/repairman and pay him to test/verify your antenna system is in good shape.....

Here's a pretty unbiased comparison between the two. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. http://plasmatvbuyingguide.com/plasmatvreviews/plasma-vs-lcd.html I chose the Sony Bravia simply because I still like Sony products after working on them for nearly thirty years. If power consumption is an issue, then LCD is quite a lot better. If not, it's a tossup.

I'm trying to connect an old laptop computer (2002) to a reasonably new Panasonic Viera LCD TV(2005). My computer is running XP, with a 32mb GeForce GO 440. I bought a S-video cable to connect them, but after connecting, the TV reads "PC no signal detected" and my laptop cannot detect the TV! (through display-nView). Is this a driver problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
Hiya naturalgut_1,S-Video sends the brightness signal and the color signal on different wires. Some older laptops and TV sets do not have the ability to change the signals into a picture. If both devices, the TV and the laptop are unable to do this you will get no picture. A bent pin on the cable could also be the cause, but the cable is new so this is unlikely. You did not mention it but I think you may have a Dell. Many manufacturers provide an S-Video adapter with a modular block built in which does the trick. Here is one:http://www.impactcomputers.com/70tvd.htmlIt is manufactured by Dell and I use several with one always attached to my computer for Video capture purposes.GOOD LUCK!!
