Great Bargain, High Quality TV

I purchased this tv to replace a Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ80U 42" 1080p Plasma HDTV that was stolen.

I liked the 42", but felt that, with the distances I watched it from, a 50" would be better, and that 1080p was of no use to me.

I was correct. The 50" is better when viewed from 10'+ and it was impossible to tell the difference between 1080p and 720p. It was also $75 cheaper to get the bigger tv, so it was win-win all around.

I do wish it had a few more features, but I feel that it represents the best "bang for the buck" in plasmas at this price point and size.

Stellar Performer for Budget Buyers

I've own this TV for over a year now and it has been a stellar performer since we got it out of the box. My original hopes were for a temporary (ie affordable) solution for our home theater room-- but its so met every expectation that its grown into a permanent role.

The picture is very crisp, with very deep blacks, good light/dark detail, and accurate colors. Of course the picture settings out of the box were a bit vivid, but with some tweaking it looks a good as any similarly priced plasma I've ever seen (we chose the Panasonic after home-testing a similar Samsung).

I personally wouldn't lose too much sleep over the 720p vs 1080p. With HD signals and blu-ray discs the picture looks fantastic. And unless you're sitting within 2 feet of the screen, you'll probably never notice the missing resolution. (I have a 1080p Sony as well, and detail-wise they seem identical.) Besides, most the movies I watch are normal (upconverted) DVDs, which look wonderful as do the standard definition channels as well.

After one full year of daily use, I haven't had a single problem with this TV. And considering the low price I paid, I'd consider it a winner on every level.

Great TV

Great television. It has a really good picture and it was simple to figure out the controls. All of the bad things you hear about plasmas putting off a lot of heat and burn ins, I have not experienced any of that.

Absolutely the best TV I've ever had!

My Panasonic plasma 50 Inch is the easiest TV I've ever used in my entire life. It has simple features such as digital tv selections on the remote, access to my pictures thru my smartcard reader. The reader is a little slow but the pictures come out absolutely beautiful. I have an S-Video output that works wonderfully and all's I had to do is plug in my laptop to my s-video or my HDMI cable to the tv, and it hdisplays on the screen with-in seconds. Please note: you must change to the input device. The HD quality is better than most TV's I've seen even with 1080p. LCD is just not very clean compared to plasma. But make sure you keep it face up at all times! Never place a plasma TV down on it's face. It will ruin the picture. I purchased this TV on a Black Friday special for only $700.00 and it was the best investment I ever made! It's well worth over $1,300+.

Still a great 720p HDTV

We purchased this set in Oct 2008 at our local Best Buy (incidentally at the $999 price that Amazon has today in 2009) and are very happy with it. Picture is fantastic, controls easy to use. Our cable company switched our HD cable box from a component output to HDMI, and man, did the picture get even better.

We also use an Apple TV connected to this television via HDMI, that looks great as well. Great fun to surf YouTube right on the TV, and the quality is actually pretty decent. We've rented and purchased HD movies on the Apple TV and they look fantastic as well.

Even though it is only 720p the picture looks great for my aging eyes, and we use it in a large living room seated at least 8 feet back. I'm not sure we could tell a difference between 720p and 1080p anyway. Great way to save a few bucks.

There is an optical audio output, so you can send the audio from your HDMI sources out to your receiver as well. We don't use the speakers on the TV, we run everything through our Onkyo, which also sounds great.

The main cons:

This set is light on inputs; only 2 component inputs on the back, 2 HDMI inputs on the back, and one HDMI on the front. With more and more gear using HDMI you might have to snake a cable to the front and leave the little door open. Minor inconvenience, as we don't have ours wall-mounted.

Also, this thing is rated for almost 500 watts of power when it's on. I did notice our power bill went up a little bit when we switched from our 19" tube to this monster. But the picture is great and worth the power premium. (I prefer plasma over LCD)

By the way, this is our only TV, and we're glad we picked this model.

Questions & Answers
Question : I have a panasonic flatscreen LCD TV, where I watch cable through iO, without a cablebox...?
Will I be affected by the DTV transition? I pay a monthly cablevision bill, and two other TV's in my home use cable set top boxes. Will my one TV without a set top box - which is connected to cablevision through a black cable - be affected?I don't have "ghetto" cable nor an illegal box. It's all paid, just an extra line is run to this TV without a cable box.

Answer:
It all depends on your cable provider. I won't be, But many people using Time Warner will be affected for sure.

Question : Which is better Panasonic or LCD tv's?
Im looking for a 32" TV for my bedroom and a 50" TV for the living room and i heard that the bulbs in the LCD tv's go out in about 2 yrs and the warranty doesnt cover it soooo even though the Panasonic needs recharged every so often its actually better to buy it.

Answer:
LCD FLAT PANEL TVS do not use the replaceable lamps...PROJECTION LCD and DLPs do.Keep that in mind...Panasonic Plasmas are the most reliable, well built plasmas around, with a good company supporting it.With LCD Flat Panel TV sets, you can choose SONY (better electronics/engineering) or Samsung (another good choice, slightly less than Sony's)

Question : How to play mkv files on tx-l37g10e panasonic vieara lcd tv?
The tv can support HDTV but when I put in a sd-card with an mkv file in it just says that there are no movie files to read in the sd card. If the tv can't read an mkv file is there somekind of a format to convert the mkv so it can be read trought my panasonic viera?I know it might sound domb to some of you guys but this is my first big screen lcd tv...

Answer:
Did you PULL out the TV manual and READ IT?.I had to pull out my Panasonic and Denon manual yesterday and READ IT.And since I couldn't FIND IT... I just googled "BD35 instruction manual", and VOILA....there it is, in PDF form (very universal)And I don't expect Panasonic to use MKV files, more like Mpeg4 or MP4.MUCH MORE UNIVERSAL....

Question : I have a Panasonic tx32lxd85 LCD TV is it 50hz or 100hz?
Specs on websites say 100hz, but the instruction book says 50hz...Second, the instruction book says it can display 1080p wheras websites says it is not capable of this output...Can anyone enlighten me?Thanks in advance!

Answer:
It would help if you stated what part of the world you live in.It appears that this TV is not for the US market because it's a PAL system TV. Are you in the UK?Your TV is not 1080p and it will not support 1080p 24 mode, that just means it won't accept a 24 frames per second rate (the original frame rate of film) so it will probably do 1080p 30 frames. It is a 720p set with a resolution of 1366x768.The PAL standard has a refresh rate of 50hz, that's why it's mentioned, but it appears that like the US versions with doubled refresh rates (120hz) your set does appear to have a 100hz refresh rate.

Question : On my Panasonic LCD TV model TC-14LA2. the only one marked video output?
is the one marked component video out, may I used that as the normal video out connection?

Answer:
Hmmm.. not sure where you want to go "out" to, since normally video signals are always going "in" to the tv, but yes, if it is marked "video out" then that should work as long as whatever device you are going in to has in ports for component cables. Since component cables only carry picture you would also need to output sound. Without knowing exactly what you are trying to hook up I can't be of much further help.Good luck with it!

Answer:

Question : Should i buy a 32 inch Samsung or Sony or Panasonic LCD TV ???? please help!!?
i am confused me and my friend Jen need help pleasewhich brand of 32 inch LCD tv is best!!

Answer:
Yor question is one of the most asked question on the internet.Samsung drives the brighter, deeper, darker images than any. When you buy a samsung, you buy a LED tv with a panel manufacturedby the company "S - LCD" which belongs to 50/50 % sony and samsung. The S - LCD company is fully driven under samsung engineering.Today, sony seems to buy their panels from "sharp corp" and trying toseperate from samsung due to the cold war (high competition ) betweenthem. You dont need to think about a Panasonic at all.Just go for the samsung UN32C6500 32" 1080p LED HDTV.Theres no better picture quality you can buy for 32".

Question : Panasonic LCD TV Model TX 15 LV1 as a computer monitor?
Can I use my Panasonic LCD TV Model TX 15 LV1 as a computer monitor? How do I connect it? What do I need to doThanks,Doug

Answer:
That particular Panasonic set is a 480p EDTV with pretty low resolution (854x480 max), and not suitable for use as a monitor. That is why it only has component, composite, S-video and coax only. You can hook it up to a computer only if your computer has a video card with those kinds of analog outputs, or if you use a scan converter device to convert a computer's VGA signal to one of those.Personally I wouldn't bother. I'd rather hook up a computer to a higher-resolution HDTV set, such as those that can do 1080p High Definition (which is 1920x1080) through a digital DVI-to-HDMI connection.

Answer:
Use the DVI connector if yout LCD Tv has it. Or you can use the HDMI-DVI adapter if your LCD TV has the HDMI connections only.

Question : How do I adjust the screen size on my Panasonic LCD TV?
I have just purchased a Panasonic TX32LX60 LCD TV which I am using as my computer monitor. The desktop goes off the edge of the screen, only slightly but it is annoying and makes it hard to reach some buttons with the mouse.I am running a new computer on windows vista home premiumI am an experienced PC user and have been able to easily find how to adjust the screen size on my previous computers. However I have tried all the obvious things and I cannot seem to work out how to change this setting. Can you help?

Answer:
You should be able to change the screen aspect by using the TV remote. You may end up not utilizing the entire screen though.
