IPS or TN panel?

I dont have this tv, but according to the Panasonic web site, this 22' unit has a TN panel, not an IPS as advertised here.

An Outstanding Performer

Mention LCD TVs and most consumers are not very likely to think of the Panasonic brand. You'll here the usual casual mention of household brands like Sony, Samsung and occasionally Sharp. This is a shame. Maybe even a sin. Although I'll be the first to admit that these household brands are capable of producing good products, the bulk of their current products are actually very average performers yet they sell like hotcakes due to effective marketing and consumers buying out of brand loyalty.

A year-and-a-half ago I purchased a Samsung LN22A650 22-inch HDTV for my wife and gave that unit a good review. Like virtually all LCDs even now, including the widely touted Sony and Samsung sets that claim 178 degree viewing angle capability, that set suffered from color, tint and contrast shifts every time you view the picture away from the dead center seating position. And I haven't even covered the details of screen uniformity problems or even black level. Make no mistake, no LCD or even LED-backlit LCD will ever rival any plasma in these respects.

So I was shocked to find the new Panasonic TC-L22X2 22-inch perform so well. Like some Sony and Samsung models, this one claims a useful viewing angle of 178 degrees. And like those models, this one does suffer from shifts in contrast. Unlike the other brands, though, contrast doesn't drop anywhere near as drastically. Also, black levels stay quite dark across a 15 degree horizontal viewing angle. Beyond that, reflections off the screen take over despite the fact that the screen consists of a matte finish. Vertical viewing angles like the other brands are only good when viewed from dead center.

But I find the basic black level very impressive for an LCD set. It easily rivals the black levels of any of the LED-backlit LCDs I've seen and even approaches the black levels of Panasonic's own plasma models, including the G10 I have. This is no small achievement for any LCD TV. The Samsung LN22A650 I bought a year-and-a-half ago has inferior black level (much brighter).

The other edge the TC-L22X2 has over the same size LN22A650 is that the internal backlighting is far less visible and I think this definitely contributes to the deeper blacks.

On top of all this the overall picture is a lot crisper and detailed even with the sharpness control turned almost all the way down. If you want to see blades of grass in a landscape picture, this is an LCD to marvel at. Of course, it's a 22-inch set so you'd naturally sit quite close to it. I use it as a computer monitor.

In a nutshell, if the picture of this Panasonic 22-inch LCD model is similar to the brand's larger screen LCD models, then Panasonic not only makes class-leading plasmas but cutting-edge LCDs as well.

GREAT Bedroom TV!

This TV has been GREAT! In my bedroom, it feels like a bigscreen. I have it set up about 10-12 feet away from where I sit in bed and I am loving it--the screen seems bigger than it really is. Picture is crisp, though you will notice the non-HD channels look grainy, but that's not the TV's fault! HD looks lovely on this screen.

I'll address a few things:

Appearance: This set is sleek and attractive! It is shiny and collects dust, but so what? Dust your TV! Not a biggie. Contrary to some other reviews, I think the viewing angle is fine--the screen is easily visible even at some extreme angles. Plus, it's a small TV--turn it a little! It is not heavy or hard to move. This is what I do.

Sound Quality: Sound quality is totally fine for bedroom use, but if you want to use this in a larger room, you may want to get some additional speakers. The speakers are on the underside of the TV which makes it look more streamlined but affects the sound level a bit. I'm thinking about getting speakers even for my bedroom, but that's just me. I like explosion sounds to boom.

Remote: The remote is easy to use, but I can't figure out how to fully sync it with my Fios remote. This may just be because I'm technologically-challenged, but I currently use both remotes. It partially synced, automatically--channel changes, etc., are on the Fios remote and volume/mute/power are on the TV remote. Oh well.

Haven't used the iPod hookup yet, but it's a cool feature to have!

Overall, I am VERY pleased with my purchase and love having this sized TV in my bedroom.

I love this TV

I am very happy with this TV in every way. I love it! Just be aware that unless you have HD service, the TV picture won't be in high-def. I hooked a game system up to the TV and then I was able to appreciate the HD.

This TV was easy to set up and the sound and the picture quality is great. I have a smaller Toshiba TV at home and this Panasonic TV is MUCH better in terms of picture quality and ease of set up. This TV had all the right settings immediately, whereas with the Toshiba I had to adjust the color sliders a lot to get a good picture.

Great TV, but size is not good for a living room!

This TV is excellent! I don't have any complaints about it. Picture quality is amazing and, when I get the iPhone in a couple of month, I will definitely connect it to the TV.

However, if you are planning to buy this for a living room, don't! 26 inch is small for a living room. My living room is 12.3 x 13.7, and I believe that a 32 inch would have been a better choice. This TV would work well for your bedroom, or a huge monitor for your desktop.

And watch out about the return policy. You pay 15% of the price of TV and the shipping cost if you return it, so it is better if you measure your room, or check a 26 LCD tv in a store before you go ahead and buy this TV.

Good TV but price seems high

This is an excellent TV. Very sttractive and works just fine. I bought mine from Amazon in February 2010 and paid only $289.99 ($315.73 with the sales tax). I am surprised that the Amazon price (now, in June 2010, it's over $500) has gone up so much.

Out Of The Box ~ Beautiful !

PROS:
Received promptly ... out of the box beautiful. The sound is as good as any, picture is perfect (no adjusting) necessary, pretty much "plug n' play".
CONS:
Nothing of consequence. Would prefer a stand alone dedicated sleep button on the remote... as is you have to go into the menue three steps, I believe it is to set it, and I'm using this tv as the bedroom unit.

I would recomend this Panasonic unit to anyone without reservations.

Questions & Answers
Question : is plasma tv better or lcd? im planning to buy either panasonic lcd tv model th-p42s10s or plasma panasonic?
is plasma tv better or lcd? im planning to buy either panasonic lcd tv model th-p42s10s or plasma panasonic?

Answer:
LCD is lighter, brighter and consumes less power. The screen will have a "matte" finish so it will reflect less light.Plasma will have a better picture in low-light conditions - better blacks, most likely better gray scale and white-field uniformity, and more realistic colors. If your room is really bright then buy an LCD. If not then I personally prefer plasma.

Question : How is Panasonic LCD TV - TC-26LX70 ?
http://review-about.blogspot.com/2007/08/panasonic-lcd-tv-tc-26lx70.html

Answer:
This is a really nice 26" LCD with 2 HDMI inputs and 1366X768 (720p) resolution. Pricing seems to be in the $600-$750 range. Panasonic makes a quality LCD, as well as plasma HDTV. You could do a whole lot worse for a small LCD HDTV.

Question : How do i connect my PC to my Panasonic LCD TV?
what kind of a cord would i need to buy?

Question : Can I use my Panasonic LCD TV as a monitor for my PC?
Can I connect my laptop and/or desktop to it and will the picture quality be good? What cables should I use for best quality? I have a Panasonic Viera TX-26LX500 LCD TV.

Answer:
Hello Ali S,You're wondering if you can use your Panasonic LCD TV as a monitor for your home computer. Fortunately, I can answer this question with an astounding yes.Upon looking at the specs for the Panasonic Viera TX-26LX500 LCD TV, I happened to notice that it included a VGA PC interface (the same interface equipped by most computer-based monitors). This automatically means that you need to use a VGA output from your computer to the LCD TV.I hope this answers your question, Ali S. And, just so you know, I also use a Panasonic LCD TV as a monitor for when I need to multitask on my Dell Inspiron B130 notebook. Mine, however, is only 20 inches. Lucky you. Thanks,Thomas Ward

Question : Which is better Panasonic or LCD tv's?
Im looking for a 32" TV for my bedroom and a 50" TV for the living room and i heard that the bulbs in the LCD tv's go out in about 2 yrs and the warranty doesnt cover it soooo even though the Panasonic needs recharged every so often its actually better to buy it.

Answer:
LCD FLAT PANEL TVS do not use the replaceable lamps...PROJECTION LCD and DLPs do.Keep that in mind...Panasonic Plasmas are the most reliable, well built plasmas around, with a good company supporting it.With LCD Flat Panel TV sets, you can choose SONY (better electronics/engineering) or Samsung (another good choice, slightly less than Sony's)
