The Philips 47PFL570D 47 inch 1080p LCD HDTV combines a full HD display, Pixel Plus 3 HD engine and incredible surround sound from invisible speakers. The HD Natural Motion feature estimates motion in the picture and corrects the juddering movements in both broadcast and recorded movie material such as DVD and Blu-ray disc. This TV is easy to connect and enjoy with four HDMI inputs with Easylink for a full HD connection. This flat TV ensures brilliant design and powerful performance for years to come.
Customer Review :
Best 47 inch TV series available today.
Having just purchased a model from same Philips series, I concur with a prior positive review 110%. In my quest for the best, I went as far as buying, assembling and then returning 3 other 47" TVs within a 24 hour period. After hours of internet research and staring at countless screens in every major retail store, my eyes told me that the Philips 47PFL6704D is THE BEST 47 inch at any price, including those advertised as 240hz oe LED. It seems the differences between the 47PFL5704D and 6704D are as follows: Thinner bezel (frame around screen) on the 6704, lighter weight (6704 under 54 pounds), higher contrast ratio (50,000 to 1 on 6704). Having owned and gifted too many Sony, Samsung, VIZIO, Hitachi and Toshiba big screen TVs over the past 10 years, I can say without a doubt, this line of Philips is the best available today for ease of use, picture quality, clean design and although Philips is not a household name in the USA, in Europe they have been a top brand for all kinds of household appliances for many decades. In fact, every day I brush my teeth with a Philips Sonicare.
My only complaints with this Philips are that the images appear to be too bright and too realistic at times. I watch most DVD movies using my VIZIO Blu-Ray player because it seems to upconvert regular DVDs to 1080p better than my Samsung and JVC players. Unless I change the Philips TV mode to MOVIE, everything appears closer to live TV instead of a film because the Philips TV does such a great job at delivering razor sharp images with details I'd expect to see only from a 3D Blu-Ray DVD. The TV lacks 2 inputs I expected and found on all my former big screens. It only has 1 coax input for antenna or cable and uses standard left & right RCA connections for mating with a home theatre systems (vs. a single digital jack). On a positive note, my former big screen only had 3 HDMI jacks and this one has 4 so I can hook up my home theatre system, Blu-Ray player, DVD recorder and DVD/VHS recorder as well.
Sound quality also surpasses what i experienced with 6 prior Samsung and Hitachi big screens that had much larger cabinets and speakers. Most home theatre systems (HTS) will still deliver deeper bass and surround sound, but without an HTS you can still enjoy whatever you're watching as this TV mesmerizes you.

Philips 47"TV
I have had the Philips 47" flat screen model number 47PFL7422D/37 for over a year.It looks like this TV is just a later model from the one I have. I really like this TV. I like the way the remote can choose the different formats for picture size. It is very easy to use and the picture quality is great. My hearing is not great so I can't speek for the sound quality. My neighbor has one also and he loves his too.

Great TV, Great Features
Like many of the other consumers, I searched and searched for months for the perfect TV. Catching it on sale also helped me decide on this TV. I have owned my 47PFL5704D for about six months now. The picture quality is great. The 120Hz is great for gaming; which was the original reason I wanted an LCD. In the above reviews, the consumers mention that the picture seems almost animated. This is actually a feature called "Digital Natural Motion," and can be turn on and off through the menu. When it is on, while watching TV it is kind of distracting the way things move. However, when using this feature for games it actually makes things smoother and enhances the experience. Also, another thing I love about this TV is the simplicity. It does not have all the junk that comes with many of the new TVs. So if you are looking for a TV with Apps. or one that is able to be connected to your modem; then this is not the TV for you.
I have had no problems with this TV yet. (Knock on wood!) The only issues that I have with this TV is that there is no PC monitor port, so you need a computer that has a HDMI output or a converter box that will convert the signal from your PC. Also, the only audio output is through a digital coaxial cable,(Glorified RCA cable) so your home theater system needs to have a digital coax input or again you will need a converter for the signal. With that being said, maybe I just need to update my computer and home stereo, then I could say that I have no problems with this TV at all. I hope readers will find this review very helpful.

The pain of research pays off!
O.K., if you're reading this, it's probably only one in a long line of reviews that you'll be researching in your seemingly epic quest for the right LCD T.V. I know your pain. If you have a family like me, you don't drop a cool grand or more on anything unless you're positive that you're getting the most for your money. I am here to lay your fears to rest. The saying goes "I don't know art, but I know what I like." I didn't know anything about this new technology until I started to look for the right LCD. And the manufacturers do not make that task simple. There always seemed to be some compromise for the sake of size or the brand name or the contrast ratio or the 120Hz...(gasp, pant). But I digress, this T.V. blew me away. Philips isn't exactly one of the big names you think of when it comes to HDTV, not like Sony or Samsung. That's what I used to think. This set stood out from the seas of hi-def splattered on the walls of department stores. The picture quality is truly astounding. Not just for this price, for any price. Although 120 Hz isn't exactly my thing, (I think it makes everything look too computer animated), the rest of the features were a God send. For example, I can't stand having too many options for my picture. I never want to mess with the Gamma settings of my T.V., nor do I have the desire to even know what that means. I just want to WATCH my T.V., and I want it to look pretty. So, this T.V. has presets that optimize it for different viewing experiences, ex. movies, games, low power "night" mode, and so on. The simplicity of the beauty on my screen only adds to my love for this product. Have had zero issues with quality or reliability. Haven't had to deal with Philips cust. service, so I can't speak to that end. The sound, with sufficient volume, is more than enough to feel immersed in whatever you're watching. So, if you're finally tired of hunting, comparing, contrasting, compromising, agonizing, side-by-siding, and scrutinizing, rest at ease with this purchase. I haven't regretted it, and I hope you won't either.

Cant beat it for the price
Great TV for the price; calibrate it though, otherwise its way too rich looking. FYI, It DOES have a digital tuner, contrary to what it says above. (ATSC IS a digital tuner!)

At first great, but pixs went out 1 month after warranty!
I liked this tv a lot.. but one month afer the warranty expires, the picture goes out.. i get the sound, but absolutely no pictures... magnavox indicates that it needs repai.. I take to get it fixed and was told over $600 because display and controller need to be replaced! I did research, and found many similar situations with magnavox on the consumer complaints website... i looked for complaints with other manufacturers and couldn't find as many nor as recent as those listed for magnavox... i do not believe it to be an isolated incident! if you do buy, get the extended service plan with it... I didn't get the repair done and opted to get another TV....

A Good Starter HDTV
I got this product last August and it is still working to my satisfaction. I admit there are some kinks that are minor flaws to me, such as the picture turning off then on every so often, and the component cables are under the back portion rather than behind the screen. However, I got this for around $700 out of box from Circuit City and as a college student, this was a good buy considering I don't have a huge income. It's better than the regular television I had and watching HD programs and playing my PS3 (with HDMI cable) makes the pictures look amazing. Even my DVD's look better b/c of this widescreen television. I customized my picture and sound quality to my liking so I have no complaints there. The sound problem that others have did not concern to me. Like I said, I'm still in college so this is a good alternative for me until I can afford to upgrade to an even better product that I can play in my own home and get some BOSE speakers. My advice though is if you can afford to spend money on a new HDTV, do your research and pick a product that has better quality than this television. Good luck in your searching!

Bad TV
Was initially impressed for a while as it had good picture and sound, etc. Then the picture would sometimes go out but volume remain, sometimes there was a picture but no volume, sometimes neither - all of these were resolved by resetting it (unplug it and replug it). It was a pain and I've never had to do that before to any other TVs but OK it was resolved. Then it also started turning itself off a few times. Now the TV has apparently died and probably cheaper to replace than repair since it of course waits to die until after the warranty expired.

DON'T BE FOOLED!!! Cases filled against Magnavox /Philips over their power supply and screen issues on these LCD TVs
I purchased this 32MF231D/37 TV and under a years time it started shutting off after running for 20 minutes and would not come back on unless it sits for an hour. Then the other day I turned it on and there was no picture, no sound, and the green power light keep going off and on. I did some research to see if it could be fixed and found many complaints about these sets with bad capacitors on the main PCB, power supply and screen issues and the whole board going out. The cost of a new board runs about $350.00. See my point??? I could buy a new one for that price. I will never buy another Magnavox /Philips again. Don't waist your money!!!

CableCard works if patient & get a good Tech - Need S-Card
After way too many calls to verizon fios - the cable card function works - so I can install this set where I don't want a cablebox. You need to make sure the cable company brings an older S-Card not a newer M-Card. My set would not recognize the newer M-Cards - wouldn't recognize the 1st S-Card but did recognize the 2nd S-Card the tech tried. He wrote down the wrong serial # and told me to call it in after he left. I did and spent 2 + hours calling Verizon asking them to get it working and they were showing the card as activated. I had one guy in tech support tell me there was no way to get an S-card to work as they no longer support S-cards. I called back and got a good tech guy who kept trying. I finally thought to check the serial # saw the install tech wrote the wrong # down and the problem was fixed.
I'm happy with the product - albeit 720p is now old tech and I'd rather have 1080p - a used set of this model was much cheaper and I really wanted an internal cablecard.
Very pleased - if this was my main set though - I would probably opt to spend a bit more use a cable box and probably go with a newer Panasonic plasma.

Just Bought
I have just had this TV for 3 days but am impressed with the picture quality I connected my DVD Player/Recorder with a "S" video cable & am well pleased with the display. I did find the best price at Sam's Club after spending over 2 weeks looking online & in local stores. I paid $961.00 including tax. Maybe as I get more into it, I may find some of the glitchs that other reviewers have found. For now I am very well pleased.

Caveat Emptor
I should have trusted my instincts and gone with the Sony set instead of this piece of junk!! The picture on this set is not that great and I love the feature of this set that causes the screen to black out for a second whenever bright lights flash across the screen. Philips suggested using the HDMI connection instead of using the component cables. After spending $100 on HDMI cables the problem persisted. I ended up selling the POS on ebay and buying the Sony set. This is the first and last Philips product I will EVER buy. Caveat Emptor everybody!!!

Not a bad deal!!!
I bought my set around June of 2006 and have had little to no problems with the refurbished set. The only problem i had with the refurbished aspect is that the sets stand did not sit level;so i have coasters on one side of the base stand and you could never tell. You can't beat two HDMI inputs and the picture quality is great, even with analog cable. The X-Box 360 looks perfect. The sleek look of the T.V. is just cake. The USB input is cool being that Philips creates fixes for bugs that where apparently wrong and you can view pictures if you do that. I did have an issue with Philips customer service. I bought a Philips upconverting DVD player and the remote for the T.V. was not compatible with the Philips player. How is that? I don't get it. In conclusion i don't see how you could get a better deal. Especially it now costing a mere 750 bucks.

Questions & Answers
Question : TV Technician needed to answer this question Red light blinking Philips LCD TV?
I just got a brand new Philips 47" Inch Flat screen LCD TV, Model number 47PFL3603D/27. The tV shuts off randomly, and it is getting worse. 10 times watching a movie, and you have to unplug it for 10 minutes until it starts up again. The Red light comes on, solid once, then blinks twice, pause, solid red light, then blinks twice, pause, solid red light then blinks twice and so on.In addition to the above issue, sometimes the TV will act like its going to turn off. It will flicker (about 5 clicking noises and screen going in and out). Please let me know what exactly has to be replace and whats wrong with it. Could it be the Capacitors (particularly C8059 and C8060? or is it the fuse or something else ? Also, if I keep trying to use it like this what will happen eventually to the tv? will it completely not power on after time or severely damage the tv?Ps Taking it back is not an option. and I have looked on Philips support website and it says nothing on this topic. Thanks Hope you can help meThanks for your Reply Shylo. The Tv is brand new, I bought it a few days ago. The date on the back of the tv, It was made October of 2008. So it definitely shouldn't be doing this at such an early time. I'm thinking it might be a bigger problem.

For the TV, Samsung all the way. Samsung's quality has come a long way, and they have been taking a lot of the consumer LCD market over the last couple of years. For home theater, how much do you want to spend? If your heart is set on one of those 2 systems, I would go with the Samsung. But for about $200, you can get this Yamaha DVXC300, and I would get this instead. http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Yamaha-DVXC300-Home-Theater-System-Black/2679662/product.html

Question : connecting philips lcd tv 37pf5321, philips dvd player dvp5100 and a 5.1 Videologic surround system?
1-I would like to connect the surround 5.1 system to my dvd player and tv so that the sound from tv, whether watching normal digital freeview or dvd/cd playbacks, comes out of the surround speakers system. Subwoofer has a digital coaxial which I can connect to the dvd's digital coaxial. I can also connect the dvd's YPbPr to the tv's YPbPr for progressive scan. To hear the sound of dvd player through the tv, I can connect audio out (red and white jacks) to the tv's audio in (red and white jacks). By doing this, there seem to be one more connection, that is from the subwoofer's analog red and white jacks. Cannot connect these to my dvd player as there are no more audio jacks available.2- Tv's sound system is, virtual dolby surround, stereo. The surround's centre unit/speaker is also the control unit which has various modes: DTS, dolby digital, pro logic, stereo, theater and hall. Assuming I can connect the system,WITH YOUR HELP,will this mute the volume on my tv or just turn it down
Answer:
If you can give a model number for the videologic surround sound system it would be good. You DO NOT want to connect the subwoofer to the DVD player. The Subwoofer is supposed to be connected to the Surround sound system, it will only send low frequency (bass) sound to the subwoofer, a coaxial port is a digital port that can feasabily send any sound, not necessarily just subwoofer sounds. You also DO NOT want to hook any sound into your TV if possible! Your TV's sound is not nearly as good as the surround sound system. There are multiple ways that you can hook up the system and it all depends on what type of inputs you have on your surround sound system as to how you would do it.BEST SOLUTION:You have good enough inputs (and enough of them) to hook everything into your reciever for your surround sound system. You would hook your component (Y-Pb-Pr) out from the DVD Player into the Reciever, along with either a coaxial or optical cable for the sound. Then you would hook in your cable box (or just the coaxial from the wall) into your surround sound system. Then you would use the video out from the surround sound system and send that to the TV. If you have a Plasma/LCD/LCD Projection or other HD TV, then you are going to want at LEAST a component out, if not DVI or HDMI out from your reciever. So in conclusion...if you have a component in and at least a component out of your reciever, than this would be a good method, otherwise, move on to the next one.GOOD SOLUTION:Hook everything into the TV, the coaxial from the wall (for your cable), the DVD player's component out and an optical out from the DVD Player, then ASSUMING your TV has a good audio out (coaxial or optical) then send the audio from the TV to the reciever.OK SOLUTION:If your TV doesn't have a decent audio out (coaxial or optical) and your reciever doesn't have a decent video out (component, DVI or HDMI) then you will have to split up your outputs. Send the Component out from the DVD (Y-Pb-Pr) to the TV, and an audio out to the reciever (the best that the reciever will recieve). then you're going to need some way of splitting up the video and audio for your cable. Either use a cable box, or plug the coaxial into your tv and use your TV's audio out's to your reciever. If you're not using a cable box, you're not going to be getting that great of sound anyways.ADDITIONAL INFO:As far as audio goes, here is the hirearchy of best connection to worst connection:1. Optical (converts audio to light pulses and therefore has no signal degradation or interference)2. Coaxial (Converts an analog voltage signal to a digital voltage signal)3. RCA (your standard red and white cables, just passes an analog signal)Clarification on Coaxial:Coaxial cables refer to two types of cables in your entertainment center. As far as audio is concerned they are a digital type signal for sound. But the cable that comes out of your wall for Cable TV is also called a coaxial cable, sorry for any confustion that might have caused.A note on HD cables:1. HDMI is a single cable that transmits digital audio and video over one single wire, it looks like an oversized USB cable.2. DVI is the predecessor of HDMI, it sends a digital video signal, it's being replaced by HDMI.Model #'s:I tried searching on philips' website and I cant find either of your model numbers, please verify that they are correct!

Question : How do I connect my Philips TV to Sony receiver?
I want to connect my sony surround sound receiver to my new Philips 42PFL3603D/F7 LCD TV. I want to connect it via my receivers optical input, but it appears my TV's audio output is "SPDIF OUT". I've never even heard of this? Are there optical to SPDIF cables? Thanks in advance!
Answer:
s/pdif is digital audio out.If your TV has a little plastic protector on top of the SPDIF port, take it out and connect an optical cable. If it is an RCA plug, then connect a "coax" audio cable (although any RCA cable should work just fine..).Your Sony receiver should have both coax and optical digital audio inputs, so just get the cable you need.
