Another one with NO POWER

I paid $1200 for this TV in 12.2006 & as of 02.02.09 it is nothing more than a very heavy paper weight.

It gets 1 star for the Ambilight but even that is generous.

Please don't make the same mistake..buy something else!

Phillips 37in Ambilight

I purchased this TV in Dec 06 at a retail store. Like many other's I have had the same problem. The TV will no longer power on and shows a flashing red light. The unit wasn't used heavily but still managed to give up after the warranty, I was lucky enough to purchase the extended warranty but go figure seems like a lot of these units fail from other reviews. When I searched it is true, this is a common problem. Great picture, Ambilight was very cool, but too bad it doesn't work.

DEFECTIVE GARBAGE

In less than 2 years and with limited use, we had the same "red blinking light of death" where it will not power on, just like several others have described.

RIP Dec 06 - Mar 08

I bought this TV back in December of 06 and it just died March 08! I was watching TV one night and the next day it would not turn on, I would just get a flashing red light. I am told its a faulty signal board or power board. I see other people have had the same problem after the same amount of time of owning the TV. I am not sure if its even worth repairing.....I would not recommend this TV.

Two failures in 2 years... don't buy this tv.

Bought this product in April 2007. Within 2 months, the main board failed and was replaced under warranty. In March 2009, I got what is starting to become known as the red blinks of death. The TV wouldn't turn on. The tech told me that Philips manufactured the device with a resistor of the wrong resistance and they are aware of the issue but won't issue a recall or offer to repair. With parts and labor, this cost several hundred dollars. I won't buy another Philips TV.

Customer Review :

Great deal while it lasted!

I ordered and received the model off the Philips outlet store $999 - $200 discount which I consider a very good deal. The set arrived quickly and in good condition.

None of the accessories other than a stand were included (ac cord, remote control, cables and wall mount) with the original shipment. A call to Phillips customer support got a quick response that they will send the items as the become available. The ac cord arrived in two days with a packing slip stating stand and remote are back-ordered. The wall mount is not available, but I would want a tilting one if I were to wall mount.

The stand they shipped originally was for a much bigger tv.

If Philips comes thru with their promise I will remain happy.

I will echo the statements by other customers. This is not the ideal hdtv (picture, connections, etc.) but an excellent set for $800.

Total Garbage!

I rated this at 1 star because there was no zero option. The manual is ridiculous, the supplied cables were defective and their customer service line is absolute torture to get through. You have to sit directly in front of the set to view a decent picture. I had numerous problems with the set not starting properly and finally...when the set was just out of warranty, a circuit board attached to the LCD screen blew. Guess what, the board is not available as a separate item. Philip's wants to charge $4500.00 for the part alone! I paid $1800.00 for this piece of junk. I look at this as tuition for the education I received dealing with this substandard company. Do yourself a favor, buy a SONY. I did and now I'm happy.

Not so Good, Not so Bad

I bought this TV in philips outlet for 750$. Used it for less than month now.

Pros
----
1. Cheap, inexpensive, TV for bedrooms or kitchen.
2. Picture quality seemed ok with HD , so far.
3. Look and Feel of the TV is good.

Cons
----
1. Only one HD-Analog connection (Component to VGA)
* Beware of this, though the TV has component input, its not HD Capable unlike all other TVs. Philips gave a special Component to VGA cord, which can be used for regular dvd player progressive scan(480p).
2. Only one HD-Digital connection (HDMI)
3. Though the TV says 16:9, I can only see 15:9 in wide screen format.
4. Black levels are not as dark, it may be scenario with all LCD TVs. Plasmas has dark black levels.
5. Poor and long waiting on customer service. I think philips should consider outsourcing customer service, instead of torturing customers with long waits.
6. Very badly packaged, so open the package cautiously.
7. Wall mountable is included, but it is not tiltable.
8. Very very annoyingly poorly written manual, dont expect anything from it.

Nothing but problems

I would never buy another Philips LCD again. The HD blacks out occaisionally. You can't upgrade the mounting hardware, you can't use a normal component cable, when you use the HDMI, the audio has to be sent with the cable(the turn off all other audio connections). So if you use a provider like comcast that doesn't send audio over DVI, you can't hear anything. This LCD has been a nightmare. for $1500

Sweet TV

We purchased this TV as a backup for our 46" Samsung DLP. The color wheel and lamp in that TV are constantly going bad on us and we are so happy to have purchased this one. The LCD is so much more reliable! This TV has a great picture and looks really sharp in our bedroom when it's not standing in for the other in our living room. We have not had a single problem with it in two years. Video games look great on it, as do DVDs. The remote could be a little better. Sometimes it seems like the TV is not very responsive when you press a button on the remote, but it's something I can live with. The sound quality isn't the best. I have to turn it up pretty loud to hear it over our elliptical machine when I'm using it. Overall, I'm very satisfied and I would definitely buy both a Phillips TV and an LCD TV again.

Absolutely the best HDTV for the price

I did a tremendous amount of research before I bought this HD, including scouring amazon customer feedback, CNet, and Consumer Reports, and so far, after three weeks, the Philips has lived up to the great reviews. The picture is terrific, it's easily customizable without being a brain-teaser and set-up was a breeze. It also glossy and sleek, while the screen is thankfully glare-free. I do really, really, really wish it came in white, though. Overall, you can't find a better HDTV for the price.

Unlike other reviewers, I find the sound fine despite the speakers being in the back but then, I've kept mine on the stand about 18 inches from the wall and not tucked in a media cabinet. I agree that the remote should have some sort of backlighting b/c until you memorize the buttons you'll need a flashlight to adjust format, sound, etc...

A couple of general buying tips: despite what manufacturers and reviewers may tell you, 32" is a perfectly sized TV for the living room. My general viewing range is about 10-12 feet and I wouldn't want a TV any larger. Also, don't waste your money on 1040p for TV's less than 40"--the higher resolution doesn't register at the smaller sizes. Reputable reviewers say that 720p ( like the Philips) is exactly as good for 32" and I agree.

Oh and one other thing: To take advantage of HD I hiked over to my local cable provider's payment center and replaced my two year old digital cable box with an HD digital box. It's free and totally worth the trouble. You'll get better HD features, channels, and flexibility of resolution.

Rating :

Digital is overrated.

This TV looks very nice but has terrible sound quality. We have tried to change the settings without success. It can be incredibly loud, yet we have difficulty hearing words. This is frustrating. We do not receive cable at our house but have a roof antenna that is very effective. We have noticed however that the image becomes pixelated and will freeze occasionally in severe weather.

Great TV

I am very happy with the Phillips 32" HDTV. Bought mine at Wal-Mart and the most important factor to me was picture quality. The Phillips picture was sharper than the Samsung, Sony, or Vizio 720p HDTV's. People have complained about the sound and I don't think it is all that bad. Setup and controls are very easy to use. I think it's a great HDTV for the price (I paid $469.00)!

Great picture, but...

Our Philips was purchased in 2006. Everything was wonderful about it until the day it died in July, 2010. The power light turns on, but the screen remains black and you can't hear the power spin up. Based on other complaints found via Google and confirmed by the repairman who came by, there appears to be a recurring problem with an inverter board on Phillips TVs. Our repair guy gave us a $500 quote to replace that component. He suggested we buy a new TV because these televisions are also highly prone to have a power supply failure within 4-6 years, which would set us back another $500 within the next year or two. His comment that stuck with me was, "these aren't your daddy's philips tv's. They are chinese-made and they slap a quality American brand on them, but they just ain't what they used to be."

Take that for what its worth, but I will never be buying a Philips brand appliance again.

If you buy this product get ready for a damaged remote sensor soon. and you will have to pay more for repair. Other wise have a good walk from the couch to tv to mute/unmute sound..........I think I will go for other brand for any electronic product i buy in the future definitely NOT this brand

Got Fooled, don't buy Philips

I bought this tv and was really happy with it, until 12 months later the picture suddenly went black. My warranty had just ended a couple of days ago, I called Philips and they will not do anything at all to help me fix it. I searched online trying to look for a solution and stumbled to a bunch of people with the same problem with the Philips LCD tvs. Read the complaints yourself at http://www.consumeraffairs.com/home_electronics/philips.html

Avoid Philips like the palgue

This is the 2nd Philips TV I've owned. Both lasted no longer than 2 years before needing repair. This 42" is going to the recyle (it needs a master inverter board, and apparently there are ALOT of issues that other people have with Philips junk. See [...] )

I was able to repair my 37" Magnavox (Philips guts) but not this 42". Roughly $450 to get it repaired.

Philips is good for short term, if you plan to replace your set in two years or less!

Answer:
For the TV, Samsung all the way. Samsung's quality has come a long way, and they have been taking a lot of the consumer LCD market over the last couple of years. For home theater, how much do you want to spend? If your heart is set on one of those 2 systems, I would go with the Samsung. But for about $200, you can get this Yamaha DVXC300, and I would get this instead. http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Yamaha-DVXC300-Home-Theater-System-Black/2679662/product.html

Question : I have a Philips LCd TV model-32PFL5322D/37. I wanted a tv that can support true hi def on 1080i.?
On this site it says the tv has a Display format of 720p and input video formats of 1080i. Does this mean i can get high definition in 1080i? ?? http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-and-plasma/philips-32pfl5322d-32-lcd/4507-6482_7-32402687.html?ta g=nav

Answer:
It will accept 1080i but cannot display it as 1080i. It will convert 1080i to 720p before being displayed. If an LCD can display 1080i, it can also display 1080p and will be advertised as such. Look at the resolution of the LCD tv. If it is less than 1920 x 1080, then it is not a 1080p display. On a different note "true HD" is a rather good market tactic. Most consumers would have trouble telling the difference between 720p, 1080i and 1080p TVs, especially in the 37" size you are looking at.

Question : How do I connect my Philips TV to Sony receiver?
I want to connect my sony surround sound receiver to my new Philips 42PFL3603D/F7 LCD TV. I want to connect it via my receivers optical input, but it appears my TV's audio output is "SPDIF OUT". I've never even heard of this? Are there optical to SPDIF cables? Thanks in advance!

Answer:
s/pdif is digital audio out.If your TV has a little plastic protector on top of the SPDIF port, take it out and connect an optical cable. If it is an RCA plug, then connect a "coax" audio cable (although any RCA cable should work just fine..).Your Sony receiver should have both coax and optical digital audio inputs, so just get the cable you need.

Question : Philips LCD TV's?
I was wondering what everybody thinks about Philips TV's. Walmart has a good deal on them right now for a 47" and I dont know if they are quality TV's or not. Thanks for your help

Answer:
Subjective info like, "I owned one and liked it," is of little value. Look at the pro reviews. Phillips/Magnavox (same mfg.) is the lowest quality of the "name brands." Almost a guarantee that you will experience problems. Just about anything carried by WalMart and other similar discount stores, like Philips, Ilo, Polaroid, RCA, Element, Vizio, and Olevia, are third tier (a.k.a. junk) TVs. Stick with the reliable, quality name brands like Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, and Hitachi.

Question : why my philips 47' flat screen LCD Tv will not display teletext anymore?
My 1year old Philips flat screen LCD TV will not display the teletext service for any of the digital channels it receives. It did for a few months but doesn't anymore. Is it something I can fix myself ( settings, etc) or do I have to get it in the repair shop?Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanx

Answer:
Check your setting first. If you can't figure that out try looking in the back of the manual for a FAQ section or the glossary to lead you through proper setup. If nothing else you can try to find a customer service number in the manual to call for an answer to your situation. If you do that though make sure you already have your model number , serial number, etc. ready because they'll be asking all of that before they do anything.

Question : philips lcd tv has no colour but when its a blank screen the colour is fine (blue)?
how long does philips warrenty last

Answer:
As to the warranty terms, it is written in the manual. Is the color gone from all program sources? Are you using an antenna, cable, HD cable, satellite receiver..??The simplest explanation would be that you are using a component input, and only the green cable is connected.

Question : What are the HD inputs on a 2006 Philips LCD Flat TV?
I can only find one HDMI socket which Sky HD is already using. How can i get my PS3 signal in? Will any of the scart inputs work for HD? Am i missing other HDMI inputs? ThanksI have Sky HD and that is using a HDMI input, but i can't believe that is the only HD input on a HD TV. How can i get my PS3 signal in at the same time on the Philips TV?

Answer:
You need to use the Scart sockets. forget about HD unless you have a HD box/decoder from SKY

Question : problem with my 32inch Philips LCD TV?
My Tv will not switch on? When i turn it on at the socket, the green power light flashes once, then no lights come on at all and no picture/sound. Any ideas on what may be wrong?

Answer:
ive got a 32 inch :)

Question : can you set up new philips Lcd tv without remote?
trying to set up new philips 32PFL5403D/10 tv without a remote. It was last one on a deal with no remote but cant set it up due to the fact there is no ok button on the actuall tv to start the instalation. Can anyone help. p.s tried an all in one remote couldnt tune it in because tv is not set up .

Answer:
You may want to go on the Philips website and find the answer or call their tech support number and they may be able to help you. Explain your situation to the tech support person and you should be fine.

Question : Philips LCD tv-flashing a red light-won't turn on?
Model number is 37PF9431D/37- The power light (which is usually green) is flashing a red light and the TV won't turn on. What's wrong!?

Answer:
It could be a number of different things!I can be narrowed down by the number of flashes of the power light. I do know that if it flashes one long, two short that that's a firmware problem. You can update the TV's firmware by downloading it from the Philips' website onto a portable USB device. Then plug that into the TV's USB port.If the blinking code is different then that, i recommend contacting Philips to have them send a technician over to repair the TV! If this is the case, then i'm thinking there's a potential problem with the TV's power supply!Good luck!
