Full HD LCD display, with a 1920x1080p resolution The Full HD screen has the widescreen resolution of 1920 x 1080p. This is the highest resolution of HD sources for the best possible picture quality. It is fully future proof as it supports 1080p signals from all sources, including the most recent like Blu-ray and advanced HD game consoles. The signal processing is extensively upgraded to support this much higher signal quality and resolution. It produces brilliant flicker-free progressive scan pictures with superb brightness and colors.

price vs. performance
"I bought this tv a few weeks ago for our kids to use for their viewing. (XBOX 360/ WII, ..etc.) The XBOX 360 graphics when using HDMI are incredible.
Sound is good enough. FWIW, the headphone jack is a nice feature for use w/ wireless headphones. i.e. The kids can put on headphones and "voila!" peace and quiet.
HD channels are very crisp/clear. Standard def is pretty good also. (standard def depends alot on signal strength from your cable provider.)
Overall I gave the tv a 5-star rating b/c of the low price and reasonable performance ratio. This is not a high-end Sharp or Sony so I am not considering that in the review. It is however several hundred dollars less that the high end."

Best price for great 42" LCD
For the price of $750 you will unlikely find a 42" LCD that has as great quality as this Philips! I had a Vizio 32" prior to upgrading and saw a remarkable difference in the picture, sound and overall appearence!!!

Great Flat Screen
We've been using this TV since June 2008! No problems - however, we don't really use the TV speakers so I can't really comment too much on them but before I had the theater system hooked up it sounded fine - one thing from the sound that I really miss was the TV's sound processers ability to mediate the volume transitions from programs to commercials concerning broadcast TV.
We have a DVD player, Wii, Roku (Netflix), TV antenna, and a VCR all hooked up via a HiDef Stereo receiver. The TV works great with everything. We have rearragned our living room such that at times it is desirable to rotate the TV on its base towards the couch and this is done with ease. I'm using a logitech remote but it was easy enough to use the original TV remote.
I saw lots of reviews about this TV with the outcome of a coupon at Costco. I waited until the very last day of the coupon validity to see if anyone had posted any negative reviews and there were none that were valid enough to me.
I highly recommend this product as long as you don't want to mount it on the absolutly flat on wall as the access ports all come straight out the back and therefore you would need to keep the back of the TV at least 2-3 more inches away. You could always cut out the wall there I suppose. Your choice.

GREAT TV!!!
So far, so good! We love this TV. It is perfect for our family...the sound & picture are great. It's great for our games and movies too!

This thing is amazing
I purchased this product on Black Friday as an early Christmas gift. It's my first flat panel HD TV. I bought it on the specs, the Philips name and the price.
Set up was a snap. It took longer to get it out of the box than to get it operational. The remote is intuitive. The on screen menus are simple and straightforward.
For me coming from a traditional TV, the picture is outstanding. Colors are rich and lush. The blacks are black. The detail is amazing. You can see the pores on news anchors' skin. The screen is viewable from multiple angles.
Speakers are hidden within the unit's case. Sound quality is excellent.
Setting up other devices (DVD player, game console) was simple. It has more connectors than I expect I'll need (at least for now).
This unit provides a lot of value.

Great product if it wasn't possessed
I picked this TV up for the price of my 32" Samsung and I got to say that it's not a bad purchase at $547. It had above average color rendering with no color bleed or wash. This is an awesome TV. I am very impressed with the four speakers that are installed in the chassis to give it a nice sound. The 2ms refresh helps with gaming consoles. The matted screen is perfect for a room that has a lot of sunlight. I would give this TV a five star rating but....The one single complaint I have about this TV is that it randomly turns itself on and off. Just out of the blue it will turn off then turn back on. No rhythm or reason to it; sometimes the TV has been just turned on or times it has been on for hours. Never the less it happens and Philips has twice replaced the power board and the problem still continues. Philips went so far as to send the newer 2009 model the 7704 and while it didn't turn on and off they have watered the product down quite a bit. It's all plastic and is about 15 pounds lighter than the 7403. The protective screen is reflective and flimsily in comparison to the 7403. So back into the box went the 7704 and back up on the living room wall went the 7403 and now I am going to work Philips over to get me another 7403 that isn't possessed.

I have a refurblished 37" directly purchased from phillps 2006 and so I was feeling confident about this purchase and I was not disappointed, moved the 37" to the living room which now looks better than ever and placed this 47" in the bed room and I was spprized at the quality of the build and clearity of the picture, i would diffinantly recommend this TV

Pretty good TV
This TV is a good deal for the budget minded consumer. It has a slightly above average picture compared to other HDTVs in the price range once you get the settings correct but the factory sound is sub-par (not that I use the factory speakers).
The amount of inputs is very nice, especially the 4 HDMI ports, although I only use 1 because I run my other components through my Onkyo receiver.
When I first received the TV I went through the set up wizard and selected what I thought was best to include the HD Natural Motion option. When I first started watching shows there was an aweful yellow tint to the flesh tones and the TV kept automatically chaning ratio and flickering between bright and dark. I contacted support and they said it was because of the HDMI cables (I did skimp on the cables) so I went and bought the $120 Monster cables rated for 120hz, that was $360 wasted because it kept doing it, although the tint problem did correct a little bit. I went back through and redid the settings wizard this time I took off the natural motion, and went for the less vibrant settings.
The picture is a lot better now, it doesn't change ratio, the tint is only there a little when I watch blu-rays and it only flashes between dark and light on the darkest scenes.

On it's way back for a refund!
We bought this TV and were thrilled with it...until we got home and tried to set it up. The first screen would appear telling us thank you for your Philips purchase, please push the green next button. When we would push the button, it would shut the tv off! After continually trying, we called customer service. They could not give us an explanation but said they could send a technician out. No thanks! We'll take it back and buy a different brand. Don't waste your time on this purchase!

Doesn't work with a laptop
The picture is fine but I when I tried to connect it to my laptop ..., I found out that it doesn't take the VGA output which most LCD TVs do. It 's a bloomer, not that many laptops got that DVI output that you can hook it to the HDMI input of the TV. You need a desktop with a graphic card plus a DVI-HDMI cable in order to get signal from a computer.

Philips 120Hz 47inch TV
The picture quality is definetly 5 stars. I do not have cable or satellite and am in awe of the picture quality I get from the digital stations from my antenna. Watching DVD movies with an HDMI compatible player was phenomenal. If you just need to have the best picture for watching TV, sports, movies this is great.
The reason I gave it four stars. 1. Remote : Very cheapish for the price of the TV. It can not be programmed to run anything but your TV. There are programmable remotes out there for around $35 so this is not the main reason. 2. Switching channels : Using the remote, when you type in the channel you want to go to the numbers on the screen are very small for such a large screen size. Also, when just using the channel up button or down button it takes a little time (<1s) to "get the picture" but the channel does not show up on the screen until the picture does. 3. Menu : Is easy to navigate 4. Output: There is no output of video, so I can not record shows onto a VCR. Also the output for sound is one digital RCA type (outputs great dolby 5.1 from digital broadcast TV), so you better make sure your reciever has this on it for your surround sound system. Mine had it for my DVD player and other components, but not for TV. One plus here is that I can watch the TV, sound comes into my reciever on the DVD setting, and when I put a DVD in to play I do not have to switch the reciever to DVD. That actually is pretty great. 5. Options : This is why I gave it 4 stars. It finds station great and labels them accordingly with the call letters of the station. Bad thing is I want to lable them so I know I am watching NBC, CBS, ABC. You get the picture. I would have loved to name them NBC-1, so I know where my antenna is supposed to point to get these stations. Not a bad minus but my old analog television even had this.

My experience with this product
I like the picture produced by this product - very clear and bright. The sound created by the two 15-watts back-facing speakers were adequate, I never had to turn up the volume more than half over the maximum value, but of course a home theater with sub-woofer is required for serious movie fanatics. I would give a higher rating for this tv except for the following -
It had to be sent out for repair a month and a half after I received it. The problem was the infrared receiver had to be replaced - otherwise the tv would not respond to the remote control.
While the menu system is active, you cannot see the video image because the menus are not transparent.
Otherwise I'm happy with the set.

Amazing Image, Good Sound, Great Value
This is one of the most impressive images on a flat screen I have seen We are fortunate enough to own a Panasonic 50 inch Vierra 1080p plasma, a very new Sony 40 LCD 1080p 60 hz, a vizio (50 and 32 1080i) and now this. Connected to a Direct TV HD signal via HDMI it is the most impressive, clear, life like picture of any of the above tvs with similar sources/inputs. It has very good speakers, not great, but better than any other in our house.
Wonderful value. It has a remote of lesser feeling quality, but it works fine. Great Value. It may need a firmware to update bring it to its best. These are easy to do, simply download the update onto a memory sitck via usb and connect it to the tv via the usb input. Enjoy, I will look at philips first next purchase.

Great 120HZ TV so much underrated...
Philips will not produce HDTV any longer for the US and has sold the division to an obscure company that will takeover the production.
This set has created a lot of buzz when it went out because there were a lot of issues. What good about that will you tell? the good thing is that they have fixed the issues (banding, problem with format, auto power off).
One point that has never suffered from any problem was the image quality largely on par with the top brand (even better but i dont want to get flammed by samsung owners).
So this is now a flawless 120hz hdtv with a superb image quality (black are superb). I especially like the image you got using the power saver mode. This version does not have the ambilight ( that i dislike, i have seen many of them in Europe where Philips is a well know brand)
it fits perfectly with a ps3 (yes it does 24p) and the set is beautiful. so buy it when you still can.

Refurbished Unit Bad But Customer Service great!
I was looking for an inexpensive Flat screen TV/computer monitor. Found this one, picture was great when I could get it to turn on. But after 2 days it just stopped working. Customer service was great though, Tech for Less took it back and gave credit back on purchase, no questions asked. I would buy from them again.

I bought two of these tvs (from Walmart) and both had the same problem. Neither TV would stay OFF! I have yet to find another review stating this problem, but after two, I will be buing something else.
Sad too. Our 32" Philips is great.

Model is defective
This TV started acting up from day 1. Sometimes it would turn on, sometimes it wouldn't. If I unplugged the TV and left it unplugged for a few hours, it would work again, but eventually it would not turn on again. This TV is in a location that is only used during the summer months and was nearing the end of the warranty period. I contacted Phillips and they are sending out a replacement TV. They seem to be well aware of the problem. Hopefully the new model won't have the same issue.

Don't throw yours out before you read this!
Pros: Great picture, good sound.
Cons: Most of these televisions do not work properly. To date, it seems no one has figured out the root cause. Even the "REFURBISHED" units have this problem.
Summary: I HAVE FOUND AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. You see, the video processor is mounted under a shield "can" on the mainboard. It gets very hot during normal operation and will cause the set to shut down, squeal through the speakers, not turn on after a few hours and so forth.
All of this can be mitigated by removing the shield can and installing a small 12VDC fan to the heatsink. Don't worry, removing the shield doesn't effect tuner operation or cause undesirable operation.
I used self-drilling screws, taking care to remove all aluminum bits with a few blasts of compressed air. #6 screws fit perfectly between the fins on the heatsink. 12V is available on the main board (it is actually labeled on the power supply). Note that the 12V drops to 11.4V when the set is turned "off", so the fan runs continuously. If you buy a quiet ball bearing type you will likely never hear it running. If it's still too loud, install a 10 ohm 2W resistor inline with the positive lead of the fan. It will run more slowly, but still move adequate air. Cover the resistor in heat shrink tubing (and shrink it) to avoid shorts to the mainboard.
You might even be OK just removing the can without installing the fan, but I didn't try this.
ENJOY!!

Great television
I've had this TV for about a month and it's been great. Its a fantastic size, the sound is great, perfect HD picture, and you can see it very clearly from even wide angles (which a lot of LCDs do not do well). I read some reviews that the black contrast was not great on this set, and I have noticed that in some dimly lit scenes, but it has not been a very big noticeable problem. Overall, for the price I paid, I feel like I made an investment in a great big-screen TV

PIECE OF JUNK and WORTHLESS WARRANTY!
I purchased one of these TVs from Sam's Club in May of 2009. Once I brought it home and hooked it up I found that the speakers would cut out from time to time. I contacted the Philips customer service hotline and had a technician in my house by the beginning of October! Unfortunately, Philips had contracted their repair services to a moron that didn't know anything about the warranty process. After waiting 2 weeks for the original repairman to move my claim along, I decided to contact Philips again. Ultimately, Philips put me in touch with a repair shop about an hour away from my home. Once they came out to my house they replaced the Audio/Visual board in the TV and told me it would be fine.
The next day my wife and I watched a movie. The sound was working; however, the TV had difficulty turning on. I had to fiddle with the power button for up to 10 minutes to get the TV to come on! I called Philips and the repair shop to arrange for another repair. The repairman came to my home, disassembled the TV, and found out the A/V board they had installed was bad. In addition, one of the speakers had blown a capacitor and destroyed the speaker cone! The repairman said he would have to order the speakers as a replaceable unit and come back next week to do the installation.
By this time it is the end of November and I had already spoken to 15 different people at the Philips customer service hotline (I wrote down everyone's name). Finally, Philips told me that they would give me a "refurbished" TV in exchange for the piece of junk instead of having the repairman schedule another service call. The only problem is that I have to wait 2 to 3 weeks for shipping. Or I can give them my credit card number so they can ship me the "refurbished" TV immediately. Once I receive the "refurbished" TV I can send them the piece of junk and they will remove the hold on my credit card.
I decided to ship the piece of junk to them and wait for the "refurbished" TV. While I wait for the freight company to come pick up my piece of junk I decided to watch a movie without sound going through the TV. I watched about 1/2 an hour of a movie and the screen turned pink and the TV shut off. I can't turn it back on! I tried for over half an hour!
I called customer service rep number 16 to give him and update on my piece of junk. Of course, he can't help me and tells me that I probably won't even get an apology letter I requested from his supervisor or company.
Now I have a 47" piece of plastic that cost me $1000. I took it off of the entertainment center and put it on the ground. I hope my dogs chew on it. That would be ABOVE the quality of this piece of junk. I get to wait 3 to 4 weeks for a "refurbished" TV. I asked for my money back but Philips said they can't do that at this time. I would have to receive the "refurbished" TV and it would have to be broken as well for me to get my money back. I am never buying another Philips product in my life. EVER!

Question : How do I connect my Philips TV to Sony receiver?
I want to connect my sony surround sound receiver to my new Philips 42PFL3603D/F7 LCD TV. I want to connect it via my receivers optical input, but it appears my TV's audio output is "SPDIF OUT". I've never even heard of this? Are there optical to SPDIF cables? Thanks in advance!
Answer:
s/pdif is digital audio out.If your TV has a little plastic protector on top of the SPDIF port, take it out and connect an optical cable. If it is an RCA plug, then connect a "coax" audio cable (although any RCA cable should work just fine..).Your Sony receiver should have both coax and optical digital audio inputs, so just get the cable you need.

Question : Question about XBOX and Philips LCD TV...?
Just purchased the 37" LCD TV from Philips. I love it, but I can't figure out why it isn't displaying game graphics properly. It appears as though the TV can't keep up with the xbox. (I'm driving a car in GTA San Andreas, and I get to areas in the game where the graphics haven't been displayed yet!). I have the xbox connected directly to the tv using the RED/YELLOW/WHITE cables. Any SERIOUS assistance would be GREATLY appreciated! Thx.

You have to connect the red wire first and then the yellow and then the white. In that order.

Question : I bought a 42' Philips LCD 1080P TV. With a regular cable, the picture is not as clear as my old CRT TV. ?
I also tried to watch DVD and VCR with my new TV, but the picture did not look as good as on the old one either. If I get a HD box, will I have better image when I watch DVD or VCR? Please help.
Answer:
This is what you'll have to do:-1. Buy a hd upconvert dvd/vcr combo. This combo lets you upconvert your old dvds and vcr tapes, so that you can finally enjoy watching them on your 1080p television. Click on this link and watch this video:-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShJ6uNDtxhU2. Get a hd dvd player that allows upconvertion of regular dvds to 720p and 1080p resolution. But it as to have a (hdmi) output or else you won't get the best picture on your 1080p tv, from your regular dvds. Also you need to get a (hdmi) cable. Click on this link to look at one:-http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=64864423. If you want the best picture from your cable, you need to get a hd cable box. This box will convert the cable signal so that your picture is much sharper on your 1080p tv. The word (hd box) is not complete without another word beside it. eg. (cable hd box, dvd hd box etc.) Buying a so called (hd box) as you mentioned won't magically transform your dvd and vcr to hd or 1080p resolution. So to sum up what you need:-HD upconvert dvd player or HD upconvert dvd/vcr player combo(one) HDMI cable (very important if you want the best picture, do not use standard cables eg. (yellow-video cable nor composite cables- green, blue, black, red etc.) HD cable box with (one) HDMI cable (for best picture)That's all you need for some eye candy!

Question : 42" philips LCD tv doesnt turn on?
ok so I just picked up this 42" Philips LCD TV (42PFL5332D/37). It does not turn on. I was thinking its the power supply because it doesnt turn on without the buttons on side of tv or the remote. Ive tested the cord and up to the connectors to the power supply and its a consistent 120v. My question is how do I test the power supply on it? it has like 4 or 5 plugs off of it to various components of TV. Anybody that knows how or knows where I can get a manual of the power supply please let me know
Answer:
Check the fuse in the power supply board. You can check the manual here http://tv.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/philips/philips_flat_panel_television_product_list_53.html
