Awesome for up to 2 years

This was a 5 star for the first 2 years, then similar to others who had the same issue (read the distorted picture thread for more) anywhere from 1.5 to 2 years the screen has issues. It's not really dead pixels, but the screen needs to "warm up" for about 20 minutes then the picture is amazing again. The problem gets worse every month, but at this point I still have picture at 20 minutes.

Basically the picture is filled with several thin and thick white vertical bars that start at the bottom and go about 80% (In the beginning it was only along the bottom) of the way to the top before thinning out. At about 15-30 minutes it clears but can sometimes be cleared up faster by turning the tv left/right. This will require service to fix or patience to deal with. Warranty is only 1 year on this tv.

I absolutely loved this tv for the first 2 years, the picture beat all other tv's hands down. It seems more and more products these days are built to last 1-2 years, I hope quality in electronics makes a comeback

Buyer Beware

I had this product for 18 months and it has stopped working properly. The right side of the picturs vibrates when you first turn on the set. We also get horizontal lines running through the picture. All this is corrected after 10 minutes - not sure why. When I called Samsung, they would not help me as I was out of warranty. They asked if I had purchased an extended warranty. I paid a premium for a good brand and as such did not think I would need a warranty. I am not sure why Samsung would not stand by its product and fell back on an extended warranty. While we are going to continue to use the TV, we are moving it into another room and will purchase another one which will not be a Samsung.

2 year lifespan

For $2300 you too can buy a tv that will die as soon as the warranty expires. Left side of the screen is unwatchable and repairman says it happens so often with these he already knows it will need a new screen. $850 to repair and I basically got the "tough luck" answer from Samsung. Guess I'll chuck it and buy a different brand that will last over 2 years and back up their product if there is a problem. Save yourself some money, skip the Samsung.

Busted Twice

I have owned this TV for 2.5 years. It worked great for the first 6 months then it developed the famed "lines in the middle" problem. This was repaired by an authorized repairman under warranty by disassembling the entire TV in my house and replacing the panel (45 minutes). However after another year (out of warranty) it developed 6 dead lines on the left side from top to bottom. Now it is beginning to have the famed power capacitor problem which makes it click while trying to power on. It also is having dead pixel problems when the menu or volume is displayed on screen. Poor quality for a $3K TV.

Poor Quality Unit... Breaks after warranty period

I purchased this unit in December of '07. I was very happy with the unit until 12 months after I purchased it when it started to develop the classic red line from top to bottom on the left side of the screen. We called Samsung and thankfully at the time it was just out of warranty and they replaced the entire panel, leaving basically just the bezel and connection boards. So I thought everything was wonderful. Now its been about 12 months since the repair and guess what... The backlight on the unit has now gone bad. This time its out of warranty. I paid $2000 for this unit... this is the first time I've ever had something so expensive go bad so quickly. Its a shame. I just bought a Samsung Washer and Dryer. If I have even one problem with those I'm never going to buy another Samsung product again. They are just too flaky. I'm so dissapointed.

Quit working after 13 months!!!!

I am so upset because the warranty is only good for one year. The tv keeps turning itself off the second you turn it on. I researched the internet to see what the problem could be and found a lot of customers with the exact same problem! They said it cost between 400-500 dollars to fix and and it is caused by a bulging resistor and they replace the whole circuit panel. Usually it is 18 months when they go out from other reviews. I spent almost 2000.00 after shipping, etc. and it is too expensive to just throw away yet 500 dollars to fix is also ridiculous. I should have stuck to my old reliable Sony.

Top of the line

I strongly believe that Samsung has the best line of HD TVs available. I have not yet seen a TV able to match the picture I get for the price I paid. I have had this TV for over a year and still get amazed from time to time when watching HD TV shows/movies. Very nice design and easy to use remote.

the wireless linkstick is out of market - no any support from samsung

Samsung posted comment on the CNET that the LN##A### is 08 model, since it is 08 model, so the linkstick (WIS-08BGxx) is not produced any more. So if you want to have wireless network with your PC, this is not for youto buy. The question is why they still make this 08 model on the market with fake description to cheat on the customer. My guess is Samsung plans to have this function BUT FAILED and they do not want to solve this problem at all (may be they do NOT have this ability to fix it)!

Word of caution

We purchased this TV about 21 months ago. Until recently we have been very happy with our purchase. The picture quality is superb! We were so happy we purchased a second Samsung TV. However, this week we have experience a problem. When I attempted to turn the TV on it started cycling on and off after a few minutes the picture would come up. Today the TV started cycling again and the picture has yet to come up. I called Samsung and they arranged to have the TV serviced, but since we did not purchase the extended warranty we are on our own to cover the costs. I did some research on the Internet and found that this problem is not uncommon with this TV. It appears to happen within the first 2 years. At this time I don't know what the service is going to cost. Estimates I saw reported were for around $300. I believe that a class action lawsuit is in the works. [...]

If you purchase this TV I recommend the extended warranty. Please understand that our family never purchases extended warranties, however, based on my experience and research I am extending these words of caution with this product.

TV rebooting / on-off issue

Just to warn everyone contemplating buying this tv or any other samsung tvs ( search google ). After about 6 months the tv just will not start. rather it goes into rebooting itself. You just don't have any control over the tv. It starts and you can hear the initial sound but then no display and the tv goes off in a while to start all over again. Very frustrating and annoying to happen in just 6 months. Searching google it seems this is a very common problem and Samsung doesnt have a clue as to what's happening. I have extended warranty so will update on how it goes fixing this issue. It's a warning to all spending so much money on a branded tv. Rather go with vizio or any other cheap tv so as to not waste hard earned money.

Update: TV got fixed. Took 2 weeks though. Tech told me all the parts are new and warned that these are very common problems with Samsung. If you buying any Samsung, folks get extended warranty. I just hope it doesnt go bad again !

Nice tv, Cheap price tag

This tv is great for it's price. I got this during the thanksgiving holiday sales for only 799! Picture quality is really good and the xbox games look awsome in hd. I bought a blu ray player for this tv and the quality is amazing for it's cheap price tag. I recommend this tv to anyone who is on a tight budget.

Best HD TV for the Price; period.

I'll keep it simple and short: I worked as a manager for an electronics giant for a while and I've seen and compared many screens... No other panel in my opinion comes close to Samsung (and the similar models, like the 550 or 600) when it comes to quality/price ratio. If you're looking for 37 to 40 inch. there is NOTHING better than this in the market other than the elite units (non priced below 3k, so don't be fooled).

I am loving this Samsung!

I bought this Samsung tv on black Friday. I found it to be a great tv. The picture looks fantastic with my digital cable and Samsung Blue Ray player. The colors just pop and the picture is crystal clear. I hooked it up to a Samsung surround sound system and now it sounds fantastic too. I haven't had any problems with the tv or the other Samsung products I purchased. Easy to hook up and look and sound great! Loved watching the Super Bowl and am looking forward to March Madness!

Great tv, but volume on bezel is problematic

We have owned the TV for over a year now and throughly enjoy this TV. That said, there are two issues, one moderate to major and one minor that may prove problematic at a later date.

The TV has the volume control as a touch panel on the right hand side. We use this frequently. The panel is not actual buttons, but some type of touch sensor. The last month the volume control has begun to act up. While watching, the volume will go begin climbing to max volume. Typically, the TV gives a warning that this is about to happen because it will move one or two steps (e.g. From 15 to 16). Then less than a minute later it starts moving all the way to 100.

This is not a remote issue as we have been able to duplicate with all remotes with the batteries removed.

We have had moderate success cleaning the side panel to remove all smudges on the glass. But given a couple weeks, it begins to act up again. Since it worked fine for over a year I am concerned it is not a cleaning issue, but a sensor that is failing.

The non-issue is the remote. It works fine, but has begun to rattle. Something has broken loose in the remote. No problems yet and may last many years more.

I try a firmware update and a good cleaning. If problem persists Samsung will hear from me.

No Video Only Audio after 26 months of light usage

Yes, I bought this TV from BestBuy in May 2008. After 2 years and 2 months, a few days ago, the first problem occurred. As I switch on the TV, the screen/video is completely black and only the audio is audible. Iam able to change the channels and also increase the volume, but the video does not appear. the Screen is completely blank. Iam out of warranty now. I have just contacted Samsung service and checking the parts for LN40A650 in [...], the PCB costs around 200$.
I am confused and wondering why i purchased a LCD TV..
The technology is not mature at all.
Remember the days when i used to have my CRT for 15 years.

Good TV but hidden issues.

I got this TV Aug 2008. Within a couple of months, the red frame change shape and had to call in customer service to repair it. They had to replace the frame which changed shape due to overheating of the tv. Again now Mar 2010, I see that there are capacitor problems. My TV is dead now because of a power supply problem and got an estimate of $300 to repair it. This issue is not related to the capacitor problem but another issue altogether. I have a surge protector, but the power supply just died. The TV is awesome otherwise with respect to quality, picture and looks. But there are certain defects that you tend to see after the warranty expires.

Great Picture, But Too Many Problems

I bought this HDTV in May 2008 from Amazon based on both Amazon customer reviews, third party reviews, and Samsung's reputation for quality HDTVs. While I was initially quite happy with the product, very good picture, features, ease of setup, etc., after only about 9 months of use, the TV began displaying an error about "Fan No. 2" and shut down after about 10 minutes of viewing.

A call to Samsung support got a technician out who, after dismantling the HDTV, identified a faulty $2 buck plastic fan, apparently intended to cool the graphics chips, that had failed. He replaced it and we were back in business

Seven or so months later, I turned on the set the day after having watched the Saints/Colts Super Bowl game and noticed a buzzing sound and alternating red and green horizontal "scan" lines progressing up the display. The picture was good but the scan lines were distracting and indicated a problem that could get worse

A call to Samsung support, of course, found me out of warranty and likely requiring an LCD panel replacement which also likely would cost more than the value of the HDTV.

Samsung needs to bring the component reliability up before I buy again even though the picture/feature quality is good.

One year review

First, for those that had problems at the one year mark -- thank you for reminding me! I had planned on buying the extended warranty prior to my expiration (not sure if it is still in effect, but I did get 3 extra months over the standard one year warranty by registering on-line). Anyway, so far I am extremely satisfied with my purchase! I had done much research prior to buying my first LCD and it was the massive amount of 5-stars on Amazon and all of the comments from the satisfied buyers that clinched the deal -- although I did go to a store to view the quality first-hand. Even though I waited for a sale to patronize one of my local stores, since I was hesitant to purchase an item this large on-line for fear of damage in transit, Amazon's price and service just could not be beat. All my fear's went out the window with Amazon's white-glove delivery service -- it was first class (although I did not need them to do anything more than remove the outer box to confirm that the TV was not physically damaged) -- the delivery people were friendly and courteous, and it had not been in a huge truck filled with lots of boxes -- just a small van, for "just my tv" (almost :-)

The image quality is second to none -- with the sound being quite good, but I am only using the Surround-Sound speakers that are in the unit and am more than happy with them -- excellent clarity and fine for those that do not need to blast out the room (I'm sure with external speakers it would sound incredible!). It is truly a pleasure to watch Blu-Ray discs with this TV. The colors and clarity are tack on -- compared to others that I saw while in the store. Only one thing -- for those who had not viewed a movie on HD or Blu-Ray before: some of those actors and actresses are not as perfect as you may have originally thought. :-)

Another clincher for this tv over some others (same with the Blu-Ray player) was ease of applying upgrades. My tv/player is not hooked up to any cable, internet, etc but I can easily download the firmware onto a dedicated pen-drive and quickly apply them to the units. Just be careful to follow the easy instructions and the process is effortless.

There is only one 'problem' that I can think of in the year that I have had the unit -- I had set the Mhz rate to 120 when I first set up the tv, thinking since I purchased it because of the faster-than-others rating, I should use it. I was shocked to watch my first Blu-Ray and watch what appeared to be a cheap soap opera -- come to find out that IS what happens at 120 Hz. Well, it was terrible and at first I was disappointed -- it was cool to see so much detail, but it did not feel like a movie anymore. I did a little research and found out that only for gaming and such do you need the 120 Hz setting; set at 60, the picture is still crystal clear but you feel like you are watching a movie! "Problem" solved! That's it--overall no problems, no issues, just a great tv! Hope you enjoy yours as well!

Love this TV

I researched and contemplated buying an HDTV for years before finally buying this one. It has a spectacular picture that can be viewed from just about any angle. I don't use high-tech stuff so I can't address any of that, but I'm very happy with the picture and sound. The "touch of red" is very subtle and I don't even notice it unless I look for it. It was also very easy to set-up (did it myself).

Question : How do I stop ghosting and temporary burn in on my Samsung LCD TV?
I have a Samsung LE26R41B 26" LCD TV.However, I notice 'ghosting' on dark pictures (like in some games, night times in films for example). Also, temporary burn in happens a LOT, like for leaving a picture on for 5 minutes sometimes! Can these be stopped or reduced?

Answer:
make sure all connections are hand tightend and the less amount of games, vcr/dvd players it goes through, the better the signal, unless, which i do, use rca connections for ur games and vcr/dvd player, or an s-video cord.

Question : how do i set non cable channels on my samsung lcd tv?
im trying to set the channels on my new Samsung 32" Lcd 720p Hdtv and i do not have cable. I keep getting weak or no signal.

Answer:
Get an antenna, connect it to your tv, run the over the air channel scan as outlined in your owner's manual. If you still can't get a signal, you can try moving the antenna closer to a window, and then try an antenna with a signal booster, if all that fails, an outdoor antenna could work. Or you may be too far from any broadcast towers to pick up over the air signals and will need cable.

NO ! unless you TV is Multi Systems. i don't think so.because all Multi SYSTEMS TV work Auto Voltage AC 100-260 V ( like all Laptop ).since you need steps up transformer ,is will be only 1 ) TV from Mose of EU countries is PAL systems.DVB tuner . 2 ) from Germany and Holland IS only DVB - T digital tuner . 3 ) from France is SCEAM systems and IPVP digital tuner. // is never work with USA ATSC digital Tuning systems ( non of EU countries use or going to swift to ATSC ) . even you cant work for AV playback ,source from USA DVD/VCR/PS3 video out are NTSC signals . .

Question : I have a samsung LCD tv that has purple dots?
I have a samsung LCD tv that has purple dots everyonce in awhile when i turn it on. I turn the tv off then on again and the purple is gone. The Sears repair man said it could be the satellite signal i'm using from DirectTV may do this due to lack of information. Is that true or is it BS?

Answer:
I don't think it's your satellite signal - I am having same issue and I have Verizon Fios (cable).

Question : How do I play my ps2 on my 52-inch Samsung LCD TV?
I hoooked up my ps2 to my 52-inch Samsung LCD TV and the picture is blurry? like I'm talkin very blurry, is there some kind of setting I have to use to play ps2 clearly on the 52-inch?

Answer:
Might be that your playing an old game with standard resolution and/or you have it connected to your TV with a mediocre (standard) video cable. You can use component cables; Sony has one for the PS2 and there is also 3rd party ones but obviously you want to go with the Sony brand. Some games support progressive scan (with component cables) and they look better than regular definition games played on a composite and/or S-video. Also some HDTV's (like LCD's and Plasma's) make your PS2 games (that do not support progressive scan) look worse than a regular TV, specially if they're bigger than 42in. This also happens with (most) regular standard/non digital channel programing (though HD channels obviously look great -also with component or HDMI cables hooked up) . DLP HDTV's don't suffer from this problem(s) but is an older, less popular technology because most DLP TV's (if not al)l are not flat (body wise not screen wise) and therefor bulkier (not to mention a lot more heavier) and consume more space and energy.Like I said try component video cables (they have a green, blue, red, white and red connection tip) they improve the picture quality and are built for HDTV's and forget those standard composite cables (with the yellow, white and red tips) since these cables video input/output was meant for standard (non HD) TV's.

Question : How to hook up satellite receiver, Panasonic surround sound to a samsung lcd tv?
So the surround sounds works when we are playing dvds but it won't work when we are watching our satellite tv. I don't know the right terms for the cables or anything so if you could dumb down the cords to like colour of cords! That would be great! Or if someone has a diagram that would be helpful that would be great too! None of the instructions in the manuals are helpful!!!

Answer:
you need to go from the audio right(red) and left(white) OUTPUT from the back of your DVD Player to an available set of audio right & left INPUTS on the back of your home theater receiver. the yellow jack (video) goes from the TV box to one of yellow inputs on the back of your TV. than use the remote to select/change the input on your receiver to the find the input you are currently utilizing. and you will get the audio out of your speakers. don't be worried if it only comes out of two speakers. the TV signal might only be in stereo, not surround sound like DVDs.
