Samsung 58" 1080p Plasma HDTV

Customer Review :

Waste of money!!

Purchased this TV on 11/26/08 after reading several reviews. Here were are nearly a year later and the TV is useless. A few weeks ago, the TV developed vertical mult-colored line on the screen. The TV is under warranty but it's been like pulling teeth to get anything done. Stay away from Samsung!

Just the right TV for the living room.

We bought this in Jan 2009 at the then low price of $2299. Even though the B series is now available for as little as $1750, we are still very happy with our purchase. This has been a GREAT TV. Picture is outstanding (even in standard def) in all light conditions (as compared to any CRT) and the screen can be viewed easily from most angles. Much better than LCD for action sports. Absolutely no problems in the last 9 1/2 months. No burn-in with the built in pixel shifts being used. The built in sound is really pretty good and is what we use most of the time even though we have a surround system hooked up.

Only wish would be to add one more component hook up location on the back panel as we had to use the side connection for the VHS S-Video hookup.

Will buy Samsung again.

Wonderful TV. Only downfall is that there is no SD card slot. Haven't hooked up the computer yet but that should be fun. Easy to set up and understand. Huge remote that even has a button to light up the remote so you can see it in the dark.

Great buy!

I purchased this fabulous TV before I could really use it. There was no problem holding the unit for a few weeks until I could prepare the place for it. Delivery was fabulous (a few minutes later than the scheduled 4 hour window). They unpacked the TV, mounted it on my display unit (not the wall), made sure that it worked properly, cleaned up and removed the packaging all for no additional cost. The TV is fabulous, but the entire purchase and delivery procedure was delightful.

great product

The picture is awesome. Delivery day though, only one guy was on tap, so I had to help out. No big deal. I just thought though that you'd have at least a couple of guys available to give the best customer service.

Excellent TV!!!

This is the second time I've bought a Samsung HDTV, the first time it was more to see whether or not it was what I was looking for. The second time was because I really liked the first one. It has a lot better -and crisper- colors and definition than some other brands out there. I didn't have cable nor dish until just a few days ago. I have my big over the air antenna on my roof and I get free HD channels, and so far I've noticed the image is a lot better than the HD channels gotten thru the Dish. I guess it is because the signal from my antenna is not being compressed and the signal from the Dish it is. Anyway, I really like it so I highly recommend it for people who wants to get something really good without paying too much. I've got the HDTV from one of my local Best Buy stores and it was in special, I paid only $330.00 for the 32 inches 720p.
Same thing as on my other Samsung HDTV (46 in): do NOT use it to watch movies thru a DVD player as the quality of the image is a lot lower than on the SDTV; this has nothing to do with the TV, what you need to get the best of your HDTV is to get yourself a Blu-ray player that up-converts the DVDs too. I am very satisfied with my two Samsung TV's.

Good Price, Ok value

So I just bought this from Walmart for $498.00 dollars. I figured its not a bad price since its a good brand. I always liked Samsung tvs so I figured this would be a good value. I do not have HD signal at my house and I know that some TVs don't work well with SDTV when they are ment for HD signal - In my opinion, this is one of them. This is a good tv for the price, but I am not pleased with it. I am sure if I paid for the HD signal it would be much better, but the picture on my 20" sony flat glass tv is much more crisp with SDTV than the samsung ln32A300. If you have HD this is good, even though its only 720p. I wish it was better on regular tv signal.

Good value HDTV

Out of the box I had to assemble the stand and put batteries in the remote, just needed a cross tip screwdriver. It took the set a while to search out all the available cable channels, but it worked fine right from the start. It found a few channels I didn't know were available. Picture is great and it adjusts for the signal automatically, whether standard analog or digital 480 or 720 or 1080i input signal. I hooked up a 1080i upconvert cd player by HDMI cable for the CD movies and it works good. All I had to do for using my pc was to connect the cable and select a screen resolution the TV supported. I thought the side speakers good, but I also have my stereo hooked up for when I play movies. My son's Samsung has more features, but he paid more too. Got mine for $498.

Beautiful picture. Great TV.

Absolutely beautiful picture in HD on OTA. I bought this TV for my parents and they are blown away. The SD looks alright on it as well. My parents will be soon switching to DirectTV's HD programming because after watching HD they do not want to go back. The one star I take away is I tried to update the firmware and once it scanned the USB drive on the back the TV shut off and never came back on. Don't know if that is an isolated problem but I called Samsung and within a week had a new main drive and power supply put into it.

great buy

We purchased the Samsung this past Christmas and are very happy with it. We read so many reviews and went to different stores checking out the competition. It seems that many people thought the sound was less than what it should be but we think it is fine. We are around 60 so it has taken us awhile to figure out what is what but other than that we are very pleased. Gayle

Another Awesome Samsung HDTV!

First off I must say that I already own 2 other Samsung TV's one is a 26" LCD and the other is a 42" Plasma televison which I both love and have no complaints about! The LN37A450 LCD is no different exept that it does have more features than being that it's a more updated model. I was torn at first between the Sony KDL-37L4000 Model and this one..but as my wife said when we saw it in the store ( The picture is much better ).

The "Blacks" on this LCD rival the Plasma 42" that I own, and the amount of features for picture control is superb.

Features

Native Resolution: The Samsung LN37A450 has a display resolution of 1366 x 768 and scales all inputs for display at 768p. The HDMI inputs will accept 1080i, 720p, and 480p signals, while the component video inputs will accept 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals.

High Contrast Ratio/Brightness: The TV has a dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and a 450 nit brightness rating, providing a stunningly realistic picture.

Digital Natural Image Engine (DNIe): Samsung's exclusive Digital Natural Image engine dramatically improves the picture by enhancing the contrast, detail, and white balance, and reducing noise. The DNIe includes five image processors and a six-time density enhancer to ensure the best picture from any source with true colors and high contrast.

Pixel Response: The TV features a fast 6ms pixel response time, which virtually eliminates picture blurring, and gives you smoother images during fast action scenes.

Picture Control: You can make the following adjustment for an optimum picture:

* Automatic Picture Settings: choose one of three automatic picture settings:
o Standard: for the optimum display in a normal environment
o Dynamic: for high-definition in a bright room
o Movie: for viewing movies in a dark room
* Manual Picture Settings:
o Backlight: adjusts the brightness of the LCD backlight
o Contrast: adjusts the contrast level of the picture
o Brightness: adjusts the brightness level of the picture
o Sharpness: adjusts the edge definition of the picture
o Color: adjusts the color saturation of the picture
o Tint (G/R): adjusts the color tint of the picture
* Detailed Picture Settings:
o Black Adjust: screen depth is adjusted using Black Level, settings include Off, Low, Medium, High
o Dynamic Contrast: adjust contrast to optimize the picture (Off, Low, Medium, High)
o Gamma: adjust the middle brightness of the picture
o Color Space: select the color space for the most natural color (Auto, Native, Custom)
o White Balance: adjust the color temperature for more natural colors (Red, Green, Blue)
o Flesh Tone: Emphases the pink "flesh tone" in the picture
o Edge Enhancement: edge enhancement emphasizes the boundaries of an object, it can be turned off if you prefer
o Color Tone: adjust the overall color tone using one of five presets: Cool 1, Cool 2, Normal, Warm 1, Warm 2
o Digital Noise Reduction: for weak TV signals, adjust Digital NR to reduce static and ghosting (Off, Low, Medium, High, Auto)
o HDMI Black Level: the black level can be set to Normal or Low when using an HDMI (RGB) input

Entertainment Modes: You can set the TV for the optimal display and sound for different types of programs: Sports, Game, or Cinema.

Picture Sizes: You can choose one of the following picture sizes:

* 16:9: sets the picture to 16:9 wide mode
* Zoom 1: vertically enlarges the size of the picture and allows you to move the enlarged picture using the arrows on the remote
* Zoom 2: vertically enlarges the size of the picture more than Zoom 1 and allows you to move the enlarged picture using the arrows on the remote
* Wide Fit: proportionally enlarges the picture to fit the entire screen without changing the aspect ratio
* 4:3: sets the picture to 4:3 normal mode with pillars on the left and right of the screen
* Just Scan: see the full image with no resizing when an HDMI input (720/1080i), Component (1080i), or DTV (1080i) signal is used

Input Source Names: You can assign a preprogrammed name to each of the inputs. When input naming is completed, you will no longer have to remember which component is connected to each input when selecting a source to watch. Source names include VCR, DVD, Cable STB, Satellite STB, PVR STB, AV Receiver, Game, Camcorder, PC, TV, IPTV, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, and Digital Media Adapter.

Channel Labels: Each analog channel programmed into memory can be labeled with a name up to 5 characters. Digital channels names are already assigned and cannot be edited.

Favorite Channel: You can create a list of your favorite channels and recall the list using the FAV.CH button on the remote.

PC-Capable: This unit has a 15-pin D-Sub (RGB) input that allows you to use it as a high-resolution computer monitor. The HDMI 2 input can also be used with a computer. The TV can be set to automatically adjust to the video signals received, or you can use the setup menu to adjust the screen quality and position. No cables are supplied for connecting the TV to a PC.

Digital Signal Strength Meter: The digital signal strength meter can be used to help you find the antenna position that delivers the highest HDTV digital signal strength.

Analog Channel Fine Tuning: The fine tuning feature allows you to manually adjust analog channels for optimal reception. A separate fine tuning setting may be put into the TV's memory for each analog channel.

Auto Volume: Auto volume automatically adjusts the volume of the desired channel, lowering the sound output when the modulation signal is high or raising the sound output when the modulation signal is low. This reduces the difference in volume when changing channels.

Automatic Sound Settings: You can choose from the following sound settings:

* Standard: resets the standard factory settings
* Music: for watching music videos and concerts
* Movie: for watching movies
* Speech: for watching a show that is mostly dialog
* Custom: adjust the 5-band EQ; 100 Hz, 300 Hz, 1 kHz, 3 kHz, and 10 kHz

SRS TruSurround XT: TruSurround is a patented SRS technology for playing 5.1 multi-channel content using only two speakers, it delivers a virtual surround sound experience through two speakers (internal or external), it is fully compatible with all multi-channel formats

Sleep Timer: The sleep timer switches the television off after a specified amount of time. The sleep timer can be set to 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, or 180 minutes.

On/Off Timer: The three On/Off timers allow you to program the television to turn itself on and off by selecting a specific on time and a specific off time. You also choose the On Timer's channel and Volume. The on and off timers work independently of one another.

On/Off Melody: A unique melody plays when the TV is turned on and off. The melody volume is adjustable, or you can turn this feature off if you prefer.

Anynet+: Anynet+ is an AV network system that enables you to control other components with your Samsung TV's remote. The Anynet+ system can be used only with Samsung AV devices that support the Anynet+ feature and are connected with HDMI 1.3 cables. The Anynet+ feature must be turned on in the menu to function. Anynet+ can support up to 12 AV devices in total.
Mounting Options

Wall Mounting: You can remove the stand and mount this display on the wall using an optional wall-mount bracket. The TV has four threaded screw holes spaced to accommodate many universal wall mount brackets. The hole spacing is 200mm x 200mm and requires four M6 (6mm) machine screws

Samsung LN37A450

I received this LN37A450 as a replacement to the previous model, which would have been a horrible review in itself! I have only had the LN37A450 for three months.

I have encountered a lot of problems with the "mura effect" also called "clouding" It has made it difficult to watch movies with a dark background because of the "mura effect" in the corners. I also see the "clouding" when changing channels. Recently I started hearing a buzzing sound when the channels were changed (the Samsung tech who came by this weekend, said that some people have been experiencing that). The tech replaced the screen/control panel to no avail! Now the voices often come across as buzzing/vibrating sounds. Not good when you are trying to watch the NFL Playoffs!

This LCD has been a lemon for me, along with my previous version of this LCD. Between the two LCD's I have had 5 visits by Samsung for various problems!

I have requested that Samsung refund my money.... I am waiting for that call from the highest department (I should be getting that call by tomorrow). If I do not get the refund, I will "try" to talk with the Office of the President of Samsung.... For the money I spent on the LCD it would be worth a try!

****Update****

The call back has still not happened.... 1/21-I was told the e-mail to a case manager was sent marked as a priority. 2/12- I was told it was in the que of a case manager and another e-mail was sent. 2/19-I was told to send a copy of my receipt to Samsung. So I am still waiting.......

Doesn't last long

I had this tv for about a year when the picture started getting blurry lines through it. Warranty repair came out and replaced a couple capacitors and a couple of light panels. It worked for about a month then started doing the same thing. This time the warranty company said it cost too much to repair and sent me a check for $800, which was all they said it was worth. I probably won't use that check to buy another Samsung.

LEMON! Picture problems, unreliable, been repaired twice but still not fixed

After owning this set for 3 months, I experienced color smearing and halo effects on all inputs. This was initially visible against the white ice surface while watching a hockey game, but it also appears on other colored backgrounds as well. The Samsung warranty initially appears to be very good, because they actually send out an authorized repair tech to make a house call. However, the repair guys replaced two boards in the set, and it only made the picture worse.

They then took the TV back to their shop, in order to replace the entire display screen. Perhaps they lied about doing that, but regardless - they definitely did not test the set before returning it. After 10 minutes of watching the "repaired" set, the same color smearing problems have re-appeared. We are now waiting for (yet another) response from Samsung and/or the repair shop.

I like this TV, but...

I owe this TV since 3 month now. I have problems to see basic cable channels. It is happening only on channels 7,11, 13. The visual and audio are not synchronized.
No matter what I did and talk to manufacturer, cable company I did not get any help. It is still not synchronized, at evening time all shows and commercials are not synchronizes. The sound goes first and than visual. It is very annoying, when sound of a show doesn't match up with the action.
The TV plugged directly to the cable, no box, no external devises. I am writing hopping that someone can help me with this problem, who maybe has similar problems.

LN37A530

We've owned this for about 9 months and have had no problems. I mostly bought it based on price, and didn't really know much about the features or brand. The TV has lots of features... especially for picture control and sound. If you like to tweak settings then you probably won't be disappointed. We have been using to to get broadcast HD for awhile and it does pretty well. The picture is very sharp and bright, good set of inputs too. If I had one complaint it would probably be the sound quality, which isn't bad... just could be better. The speakers are inside the frame of the TV, which looks neat, but probably impacts sound distribution. Remote is huge and not universal, unless you are using some HDMI components that can talk to each other - ANYnet.

I've had the tv for about 3 years and for a while now it looks like there is a faint black mark on the the right side of the screen. It sort of looks like a shadow. But it's super annoying and I was just wondering if there is some way to fix it or if we have to buy a new tv.

im guessing that the pixels are burning out, it happens with computer monitors too, if you use it too much they eventually burn out, or you just have a faulty tvyou would have to buy a new screen or parts to fix it, or a new tv

Question : Why does my Samsung LCD TV screen have a blue tone when I connect peripherals using component cables?
I have a 19-inch Samsung flat-screen LCD TV. When I connect peripherals (DVD player, XBox 360, etc.) through the component ports, everything has a blue-ish tone to it. I know it's not the component cables themselves because I've tried 3 different sets of component cables and they all have the same blue tone result. So I'm guessing there's something wrong with the TV itself. If I connect things through other ports (S-Video, Composite, DVI, etc.), everything is fine. Could I possibly have changed a setting on my TV by mistake to make everything blue when connecting things through the component ports? Or is this just an issue with the TV itself? Thanks in advance for the help.

Answer:
Sometimes a Samsung LCD can push blue if you have your color settings on "Cool" - and for that matter, ALL TV's have a color push out of the box.If you want to reduce the blue push, try changing from "Cool" to "Warm" in your picture settings. Also, check to see if you're receiving blue as a result of your component settings not receiving a "red" or "green" picture. Sometimes it takes a moment to notice, but blue will be pushed because red or green aren't transmitting from your source content (DVD player, or whatever) to your TV.If that doesn't help, try calling Samsung's toll free phone number - 800-SAMSUNG during M-F normal business hours. That number connects you to one of the three offices in the United States, which is cool that you aren't being rerouted to India.Good luck to you!

Question : How Do I Use Picture In Picture On My New 32" Samsung LCD TV?
I just bought a new 32" lcd samsung tv, and i was hoping to use it both as a computer screen and a tv. Is there i way i can watch tv, and have my computer screen PIP'ed while i watch tv?

Answer:
Sorry . i don't think any 32 inc LCD TV come with PIP .you can use it as PC monitor . if the TV model with VGA direct connector. or you need to by any VGA - RCA converter .however . if the TV with out PIP. you can never watch TV / PC as the same time.usually only big screen TV with PIP.( not all model ) if not the screen display will be too small to you eye.

Question : What cords/accessories do I need for new Samsung LCD TV?
I just bought a Samsung 46'' LCD TV, 1080P, 12HZ and am wondering what accessories should I get for the best TV viewing. I already have the digital cable with an HD package, but have been told that there are certain HDMI cords that I should look into. I am not sure what comes with the TV (bought it from Amazon.com, LLC. I also have an XBox 360. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
I was shocked to learn that the cheaper cables work just as well as the $100 cables, Read the information and where to get them. I normally use newegg.com.
