Samsung LN40C650: great bang for the buck

I bought this TV on 07/21 from Circuit City for $6XX after bing discount (Sorry Amazon, I'd have bought from you but you didn't match the price). I'm a techie and do a lot of research before purchasing big ticket items and am very happy with my purchase so far. This TV convinced me that LCD technology has caught up with plasma. I'd recommend it if you are looking for a great internet ready TV w/o breaking the bank.

Setup:
Comcast HD via HDMI and Dell XPS via HDMI

Pros:
Great picture quality (especially HD)
Great contrast ratio
Deep black levels (feels like a plasma)
No problem in lighted room (exaggerated in other reviews)
Unbelievable picture quality in dark
Swivel stand
Internet apps

Cons:
Had to buy a $25 dongle (Rosewill RNX-N1), which works great
No free internet movie apps (like hulu)
Buggy netflix app (pause and play doesn't show correct time passed), Amazon on demand and vudu works much better
Internet apps not user friendly (haven't saved ids and pwd because it is painful)

Great product

Easy to assemble. Modern design. Glossy screen. Can rotate the screen. Great image quality. Easy to use. Plenty of connections (including VGA, HDMI, WiFi adapter etc) and they are all in one area. Hooked up with many apps including Netflix. When you stream video online through Netflix, it's not the easiest to navigate or search.

The only issue I had was the delivery. The last time I ordered a TV from Amazon the delivery guy unpacked it, set it up, and went through all the features...knew a lot about the set. This time around it was only the guy's 2nd day on the job and he knew nothing; going page by page through the manual just to assemble the base. He also asked my wife, who has had back surgery, to help him carry it in. I finally shooed him out after I confirmed the TV was working (I already knew the menus and features from my other Samsung). This is my second Samsung and I'm sold on picture quality and features.

Excellent TV

I'm not going to focus on picture quality, there are plenty of reviews for the other Samsung TV's in this class (LN**C6/5**)that will give you some idea. The short of it: Excellent picture quality, and superb build quality. Instead I'm going to focus on the extra "Internet@TV" features and it's media playback abilities. After all, that's the only reason to spend an extra hundred or two on this model right?

Some of the Internet@TV apps aren't as gimmicky as you might expect. Sure, there are some really awful games, some of which are trials. I certainly wouldn't expect to buy any games for this TV. Graphically, it isn't a capable machine. They sort of remind me of a set of mediocre 2D-only flash games with really poor framerates. So, game apps are out. That said, a small collection of the apps are actually very useful. Netflix works great, and did so right out of the box. Pandora is excellent, and unlike the online version, has no ads with a free account. The youtube app also works great, although searching for videos can be a pain using the remote since you have to use some sort of phone-like input method for typing. It does have T9 and a decent dictionary to speed things up. There are a couple of other video streaming apps that seem polished including Hulu Plus, Vudu, Blockbuster, and CinemaNow. Hulu Plus is still in beta, but after trying out a few of their samples, it seems well made. Vudu, Blockbuster, and CinemaNow are too expensive for my tastes, renting movies for 25%-30% of the price to own isn't worth it to me. And buying a digital copy from either place without also having a physical copy doesn't cut it. Especially if they are the same price.

There are twitter and facebook apps, but a lot of the use of those apps comes from communication. I haven't yet tried either of them, but I can't imagine trying to type out any sort of response using the remote. There's also a daily motion app, that works well and fits in the youtube category. Google maps is almost useful, but like the rest of the graphically intensive apps, there's a fluidity issue. Scrolling the map is a little choppy, and typing in addresses to get directions is slow using the remote. When you throw in the time it takes to load the app, type the addresses, and get your directions, you might as well have got up from the couch and used the computer. It's at least a cool toy to show friends.

The slideshow apps GettyImages, and Picasa Web Albums sort of fall in the same category. They both get a bunch of pics from the web, fine art, and photos, and display them as a slideshow on the TV. They work well enough, but could use a little polish; it would have been great if there was a smooth transition between pics, but both just lazily switch from one photo to the next.

There is a Napster app, but I don't have a subscription to try it out. I'd imagine it would work fairly well, and have a similar flow to the Pandora app, which is great. The AP news ticker app is pretty well done. Instead of interrupting TV, it puts a small ticker at the bottom of the screen and displays various news bytes. At any time, you can change the category or call up the news article being displayed to read it in it's entirety complete with pictures. All without any interruption.

The last app of sorts is the Yahoo! app, although what it amounts to is a gadget bar that runs across the bottom of the screen. You can call the gadget bar at any time by pressing the Yahoo button on the remote. There's a bunch of gadgets you can get for it, and a few redundancies with the apps. In a lot of ways it is more useful. For example, the Accuweather app is fairly lame and not really worth the time it takes to open it. But, the Accuweather gadget is quite a bit better - faster to open, doesn't interrupt what you are watching, has a five day forcast, radar, weather alarms, and a bunch of small bits of weather info. The news and finance gadgets aren't bad either.

The other reason you might want this TV over the lesser models it it's media playing capabilities. The TV itself doesn't play a whole host of formats. It doesn't seem to directly support a lot of fairly common codecs like h264 or AC3; it's possible that the videos I had in those formats, the TV just didn't like for other reasons like resolution, though. Your best bet are the older mpeg4 codecs like xvid/divx with simple mp3 audio in an avi container. This only matters though for videos that are on a device directly connected to a TV, like a flash drive or external hard drive. If you are using the networking capabilities to stream video from another computer, it can support just about every format and resolution. It has never failed to play a video from my PC. And those videos are in just about every format around. It's played DVD VOB's directly from a folder, mkv and avi containers, h264, xvid/divx, AC3 audio, etc.

Here's the key: You have to install a proper DLNA media streamer on the computer. Only one free one exists that'll to the job. Pay attention now. You have to use Serviio if you have any chance of playing all those formats. Serviio.org has all the details and a great community of Samsung TV users that have had excellent experience using the program. Some gripes with streaming on the TV though is that you can't fast forward or rewind yet. I believe Samsung is working on a technique to do it properly, but it's tricky to do from a DLNA protocol standpoint. Serviio also does a great job of grabbing meta-data (video art, genre, director etc.) from the title of the file. With Serviio, media streaming is a pleasure.

Some other things to note, Samsung does seem to be supporting the platform - every week or so, some apps have updates, the TV itself has had an update or two since I bought it about a month ago. With it connected to the internet all of this is painless and fast.

All in all, it's a great purchase. For the price I paid, the extra features were worth it. But it may not be for some others. If you don't want/need network media streaming capabilities, there isn't any reason to get this TV over it's lower cost brothers. For me, it was great having exactly two cables connected to the TV: Power and Ethernet. That's all I need for all my media.

Great TV! Good price!

I really like this television. The picture isn't quite as nice as my LED Samsung TV (UN55B7000) but its very close and still looks great. The design is very appealing and its relatively thin for a non-LED backlit television(which I think makes it look nicer when mounted on the wall). Overall I would definitely recommend the television and will continue buying Samsung. Also just thought I would add, this is the second TV I bought from Amazon and I have to say I have no complaints there either. The prices were great and the TV's arrived very quickly.

First HDTV

This is my first HDTV so I really can't compare it to other TV's. I just purchased this product about two weeks ago and I love it. I did lots of research for the size and if I wanted to go for a 120HZ instead of 60 HZ refresh rate. All the 120HZ were at a bigger size and I had a budget. I went with this one.

Now I mostly use this HDTV for video gaming. I have an Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. The Xbox 360 came with a HD Component plug but the PS3 didn't so I purchased a HDMI plug thinking it was a HD Component plug. Oh well. It worked fine with the tv. The TV has one HD component plug, a couple of USB ports, and one HDMI. My lack of research was in this area as I didn't think I needed more than one HDMI port. The HD cable box I had to get used an HDMI port therefore I would have to unplug/replug the PS3's HDMI whenever I want to play. Not too much of a hassle! lol.

So out the box, I had a little trouble screwing the stand into the bottom of the HDTV. Perhaps it was my screwdriver, but it still took me more than an hour to screw the darn thing into it and it's not even that tight cause it wiggles around a little bit. They should have made the holes a little bigger I think.

Setting up the HDTV to work with the many components was as smooth as butter. At the time I didn't have my cable box and only had my gaming systems so the option for the Air and Cable channels didn't work for me. To switch between components, all you do is press the source button on the remote and go to TV, Component, HDMI, and Media (for USB). My cable box was on HDMI and my Xbox 360 was on Component.

The graphics look amazing. Again this is my first HDTV so I can't compare to others. I found that I could change the view size to that of widescreen or fullscreen (4:3 or 16:9 ratios). There were more options than that which is great! Also, there were cable channels in HD so that was even better! Game Mode isn't really a big deal. It comes on automatically when I play my games. It makes the screen a little darker at least that's all I can notice. And I turn it off when watching cable.

I guess the only thing I can point out about the graphics is that when watching a movie in standard IT REALLY SHOWS its choppyness in the background especially with older movies. Not sure if there's an option to fix this. I could probably mess around with it.

The sound of the HDTV is decent, and I guess because of the size and where you use the TV. I have a small room so it's prefect but if you're using it in let's say a master bedroom and you are playing a big action movie or so, you have to turn it up more than 70/100 to hear it well. There might be an adjust in the menu also for this, haven't played around with it much lol.

As far as using it for pictures and music from a media player, I haven't used the HDTV for that yet. Once I do I'll edit this review. In the meantime, I think this HDTV is awesome for being my first one!

Thanks for reading *(^^)*

Samsung LN22c350

Purchased to replace an analog TV that was installed high on a wall in a bedroom to view from the bed. When viewed close to the TV, the colors are darkened and distorted. This could be overcome by tilting the TV more downward but Samsung instructions limit the tilt to 15 degrees. So TV can only be enjoyed with your head far from the TV (or almost perpendicular to the screen). Otherwise buy was a good one.

I use the tv in front of my treadmill and it's great in all respects except that I would have liked a little more volume from the speakers. The3 sound is certainly clear enough on the news programs that I watch. I just wish it had 10% more volume

Defective Out Of The Box

I can see how this could be a really nice TV at a decent price. I read the reviews and figured this set would meet my needs. Got it all mounted and connected in the bedroom, but when I turned it on there was a vertical green line from top to bottom, right about left of center. Very disappointing, right out of the box. This one will definitely go back. I plan on trying another, hoping this was just a fluke.

Defect aside, the design is nice, picture quality good and volume is ok once you make adjustments to the equalizer under menu options. The higher equalizer settings should probably have been set as defaults on this TV right out of the factory. I noticed a couple reviews commenting on the poor volume, but changing the settings makes a big difference.

I also considered a 26-inch set, but the 22-inch turned out to be just the right size for the bedroom.

If this set didn't have the problem with the vertical line, I would have given it four or five stars. I'll try a replacement and see what happens.

Even without 3D this is an excellent buy. The picture is crisp and clear. The black level is excellent. Sports programming is clear with the 240 hz refresh. Add to it the wow factor of 3d and you have a fantastic package. I love bring in friends and having them try the 3D part. They look sooo funny dodging branches or birds on the 3D programming.

a great TV at a great price

Previously I gave this TV a 1-star review because the first one that I received died within less than a minute (yes, I said less than a minute, and I mean that literally) of use after I got it. Amazon shipped me a replacement, so now I can review based on my experience with a working set.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the TV. I got a great deal on it (it's a lot less expensive here on Amazon than it was from any other store that I found), and so far I've been impressed with the quality of it. I don't have a lot to add to what has already been said in other reviews, but I'll throw out my impressions of it.

First, the good:

-- It has probably the best picture quality that I've seen on an LCD TV, and more than anything else, that's what I want out of a TV. The colors are bright, the blacks are black, and the clarity of the picture is excellent. From a good HD source, images just seem to pop from the screen. Even from an SD source, though, the material looks as good as could be expected. I did a lot of research and comparisons before buying, and honestly, I'd recommend this CCFL LCD set over just about any LED set out there except perhaps for the highest-end full array sets.

-- The quick response time is great for gaming. Just make sure that you actually put it in game mode, otherwise all of the video processing that the TV does in other modes will slow down the response time considerably and cause undesirable artifacts.

-- The built-in apps are great. I've mainly used the Netflix app so far (technically, I could do Netflix on some of my other connected devices already, but it's nice to be able to just bring it up on the TV without having to boot anything else), but it's got a lot of other great options available as well. That being said, do I really need Twitter on my TV?

Now, the bad:

-- There is a very minor amount of flashlighting in the lower corners of mine. It's only visible when the screen is completely black, and even then it's not enough to really be distracting, but it's there. That's LCD for you, though. One would think that by now they'd have figured out a way to eliminate this issue entirely.

-- The sound from the TV speakers is pretty bad. Maybe I'm just spoiled because I've gotten used to having my TV hooked up to a sound system (mine was disconnected for the first few days that I had the set because I'd just moved and hadn't gotten around to setting it back up yet), but I was still surprised at how poor it was, and how much it distorted at what should be completely normal volume levels. It's not utterly unlistenable, but I would definitely recommend a receiver and external speakers with this -- then again, if you're buying an HDTV of this quality, it's almost a given that you'll want a surround sound system anyway.

-- I don't watch a lot of sports, so I haven't tried the Auto Motion Plus with that type of programming yet, but you will want to turn it off with other TV viewing. Even at its lowest setting, the "soap opera effect" is quite pronounced. Not a big deal for the most part, since it can be turned off for most content. However, the reason why I'm calling this a negative, it seems to be applied to Netflix streaming content viewed through the built-in app regardless, and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off for that (I haven't tried other video apps, so I can't comment on those).

-- The glossy screen can be a bit too reflective. I have to turn off the lamp that's directly behind me when I'm watching TV, otherwise it is clearly reflected on the screen. It's not really a problem in the room that I have it in, but I imagine that if it were across from a window, the reflections during the daytime would be problematic (I guess get some curtains?).

-- The options to change some important settings, such as putting the TV in game mode or changing the level of (or turning off) Auto Motion Plus, are buried deep in the menus. And yet they wasted space on the remote for much less useful things like the Yahoo widgets (I mean, really, those can be accessed through the internet button, why do they also need their own?). It would have been nice if they'd made navigation to these important settings a bit easier.

I can't speak to the 3D features yet, as I'm holding out for the update to make the PS3 3D compatible and for more worthwhile 3D content to become available before investing in the glasses. It's nice to know that it's there, though, for "future-proofing" purposes. Hopefully the price on the glasses drops a bit soon, because right now that's by far the biggest barrier.

All in all, despite the negatives, I'd give this TV 5 stars, but because of my experience with the first one failing (and the hassle of getting it replaced) I'm docking it down to 4 stars. I hope that those problems aren't reflective of the overall reliability of these sets, but it did leave me with some concerns.

Full 1080P in 3D!

I bought the Samsung LN46C750 LCD TV to replace my Hitachi rear projection 1080i TV that had developed a convergence problem. My feeling was that it was time to go modern and get a flat panel model with 1080P capability for watching Blu-ray discs in their full glory.

To my surprise I found I could buy this Samsung 46-inch model with full 3D capability and 2D to 3D conversion for only a couple of hundred dollars more than the same size Samsung 2D-only LCD set, albeit, it didn't come with the required active 3D glasses for that price.

Hooking the TV up to my HT surround sound system was easy -- in fact it was easier than installing Samsung's swivel stand, mainly because the instructions were not as clear as they should be. The difficult part of getting the TV functioning in my system was figuring out how to set all the myriad settings in the multi-stage menu for optimum performance.

You see, out of the box, with all the factory defaults in place the picture looks overtly bright and a bit washed out because of this. I read the manual and navigated through complex settings I'd never heard of and after a while I was able to get a very good picture with lots of detail, wonderful color gradations/transitions, and a more natural appearance.

A few days later on a whim I looked for online reviews of this model and found an informative "expert" review at [...] The author, Jack Burden explained that in order to get the best possible picture from the LN46C750, it had to be set in the "Movie" mode because that is the only mode where the comprehensive menu can be fully accessed.

I printed out all the recommended settings from the review, went into the advanced menus and changed the settings one by one. When I was finished I had a picture that was so natural, detailed and vibrant, it was mind-blowing. Still I made a couple of minor tweaks to the final settings in a couple of areas and this improved my results a bit more. In stock form Samsung pushes the blue level up for dramatic effect but Jack Burden's recommended settings balance it out so that the color balance is more even and natural. Here is a link to the review: [...]

The day my 3D glasses arrived it just so happened that Comcast Cable was running a 3D broadcast of extreme BMX games. In 3D it looked like the stunt ramp descended steeply to the bowels of the earth. What a great show it was! When the contestants were jumping high off the top of the ramp it looked like they were coming right out into the room. One guy getting ready for his run pointed at the 3D camera and it looked like he was poking me in the eye. In the following show featuring some colorful dirt-track car racing they showed some inside-the-car shots in 3D that were pretty exciting and at one point some gulls circling the stadium must have flown very close to the camera location because it looked like they flew out into my room and then back into the stadium. The best part was that the precision detail and focus of the hi-def experience was convincingly maintained in the 3D format. I'm ready for so much more of this!

Note that I am running Comcast's Motorola DCX3400 cable box into an Onkyo TX-SR605 HT receiver... although the Onkyo receiver has HDMI version 1.3 inputs/outputs, it passed the 3D signal through to Samsung's HDMI ARC 1.4 input flawlessly.

That said, I was not blown away with Samsung's 2D to 3D conversion. Yes, it adds a higher degree of depth, but it's not real 3D and the picture is already so lifelike and glorious in regular 2D that I don't feel enough incentive to be confined to the glasses.

The picture quality of my Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player is purely amazing on this Samsung. Regular DVD's can fool you into thinking they are full HD because of the extreme detail afforded by the Oppo's upscaling feature. And full 1080P playback is simply jaw-dropping. The shadings and color variations in the Navi's forest home are indescribably glorious. Heck, I could see little specks of dust in the pores on Sigourney Weaver's forehead after she'd been running in the forest. In some scenes, there was too much detail to the point where it was unflattering to the actors... being to see every line, wart, and wrinkle on their faces and all.

I have not gotten around to experimenting with Samsung's computer applications at this time but hope to do so in the near future.

Reasons for my "4-star" rating -- two caveats to note: (1) The Auto Motion Plus feature definitely works but it's not always easy to predict which setting will work best. For most shows the "Clear" setting is quite good (recommended for fast motion). For the fastest motion you can turn Auto Motion Plus off, which is also good, but makes the picture a bit more jumpy in some scenes.

(2)The built-in speakers are not very good although they can be adjusted via the menu to sound acceptable. Personally I think you are wasting half of the experience of such a great TV if you don't hook it up to a very good multi-channel surround sound system.

If you get the picture settings right, like I outlined above, and install a sound system that has quality commensurate with the Samsung's superb video performance, you'll be in Home Theater heaven. And if your Home Theater happens to be located directly adjacent to the kitchen, you'll have the best of all worlds. Highly recommended!

Darn good TV.

Well after alot of research on 3D tv's, and comparing prices and sizes, this is the tv I went with. What with 3d tv's still being a new thing and all, and Samsung being the only tv with 2d to 3d conversion at the moment this was a pretty good deal. Bought for less than 1300.00 and I must say the picture is great. The 2d to 3d conversion isnt as good as a real 3D Blu Ray, but it gets the job done. The LED versions of 3D tv's are highly over rated, and the power savings are minimal, like $30 a year. Not worth the extra money for the tv, but prices should begin dropping soon. I didn't care for the Auto Motion Plus on this tv, so I shut if off. And the only problem I have had so far, is where the left side of the screen becomes all pixilated and over saturated, but the right side is fine. If I turn on the AMP Demo mode, it is right in line with the defect. If I tap the tv it fixes it for a while. This is not a defect with this model, just the one I bought. Samsung is sending someone to fix or replace it next week. Overall, a very nice tv for the money, and again Samsung is the only ones with the 2d to 3d conversion.

Very nice but...

For the price, this TV is excellent. The picture is superb. I cannot comment on the 3D part of the TV. I am spending quite a bit of time on the internet function. The reason that I gave this TV a 3 star is that about 2 weeks after receiving the TV, a line developed smack dap down the middle with the right side of the screen showing a perfect picture while the left side show greyed out blacks and pixelation. Amazon replaced the TV with no hassle, but I don't expect to pay this kind of money for a product to fail so quickly. I noticed that another person in my area also recently rated this TV and had the same thing happen to his. Just a word of caution. I am on the second TV and things are working perfectly again. The HD picture is clear and even in a bright room, the glossy screen doesn't show any reflections for me. This TV would be a 5 star if it continues to work the way it should. I am just noting that maybe there is a problem with this model that may start showing up more...

Nice TV when not buzzing

The picture quality is very nice, set up is intuitive, and the styling is attractive. The first TV had a loud buzzing sound emanating from the rear. Other reviewers have noted this and it was noticeable at normal listening levels. Some times it was loud as soon as the set was turned on and other times it became louder over time.

The second set hasn't had this problem yet. A low buzzing sound is still present, but you cannot hear it while watching TV. There appears to be an issue with a component on this model since my older Samsung doesn't exhibit this problem.

The price is right and the set is very nice, but you may have to exchange it due to the buzzing sound.

grabbed 1 on sale this week to replace
a very very old unit in the home.
the entire viewing family is VERY pleased
with this unit.
1 - we don't have the high buzzing sound
from ours that one person mentioned as a
defective unit.
2 - the dark colored front panel controls
on the lower front bezel are a bit light
but we mostly use the remote controls so
that isn't a real issue.

unit fits our built in hardwood multi

i think the screen views well even from
extreme side seating locations.

things i might suggest to the factory;

1 - it seemed the set had minimal padding
inside when i opened the box. ours is, as
i said, in perfect shape, but if i was
the factory QC guy, i'd be putting more
protection in front of the screen. ours
used a 2 inch space for protection and the
box itself.
2 - i'd try to put small recessed handle
grabs in the rear frame in a larger design
element like this. lifting it is a two
person job per the manual but both people
found their grips slipping on the highly
polished (and good looking) set edges.

our entire extended family seems to have
settled on the Samsung line. that's
about 12 sets! really; we all love this
brand, have many different styles and
have had great experiences with the
performance and reliability of the Samsung
equipment. we did get an extended warranty

i haven't tried the connectivity to my

Excellent TV

This is the 3rd Samsung I've bought. This one for my inlaws, a 26 inch for the camper. and a 52 inch for the home along with a samsung Blu-ray player. All are excellent TVs. I've had the oldest one over 2 years and never a moment's trouble.

Samsung 37-inch LCD Televison

We are very pleased with this television. However, the instructions for hooking it up could have been clearer, especially for connecting it to a VHS/DVD recorder/player. We keep it on a stand rather than mounting it on a wall.

Editorial Review :

Make the move to the smoothest LCD action ever. Samsung's LN19C450 LCD HDTV offers incredible color and rich clarity, all on a 19-inch screen. Add the power of Samsung's Wide Color Enhancer, for a picture that optimizes a given color's hue, resulting in more natural rendering of colors and lifelike action. Samsung HDTVs are also ENERGY STAR compliant, helping the environment by using less energy while saving you money.

`Quite Happy

I am quite happy with my Samsung LN19C450. I was almost scared off by the reviews of other Samsumg 19" TVs and the comments on "tinny" sounds, but decided to give it a shot given my satisfaction with my large 46" Samsung LN46A950 TV. I was replacing a 1yr old Magnavox 15" LCD HDTV, which was quite weak on sound. I rate the sound of the 19" Samsung as very nice. I'm not sure if it is improved over previous models (seems to have the same specs), or if other reviewers expected 46"sized TV sound.

Question : How do I stop ghosting and temporary burn in on my Samsung LCD TV?
I have a Samsung LE26R41B 26" LCD TV.However, I notice 'ghosting' on dark pictures (like in some games, night times in films for example). Also, temporary burn in happens a LOT, like for leaving a picture on for 5 minutes sometimes! Can these be stopped or reduced?

Answer:
make sure all connections are hand tightend and the less amount of games, vcr/dvd players it goes through, the better the signal, unless, which i do, use rca connections for ur games and vcr/dvd player, or an s-video cord.

Question : What cords/accessories do I need for new Samsung LCD TV?
I just bought a Samsung 46'' LCD TV, 1080P, 12HZ and am wondering what accessories should I get for the best TV viewing. I already have the digital cable with an HD package, but have been told that there are certain HDMI cords that I should look into. I am not sure what comes with the TV (bought it from Amazon.com, LLC. I also have an XBox 360. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
I was shocked to learn that the cheaper cables work just as well as the $100 cables, Read the information and where to get them. I normally use newegg.com.

Question : What should I do with a broken Samsung LCD TV?
I have a 40 in. Samsung LCD TV that has a blank picture but sound works. It broke 3 weeks after the 2 year maintenance plan expired :( . I'm afraid this will cost $300-$400 to fix.. I hate to throw something away that visually(outside/not picture) is in great condition and might be fixable. Any suggestions?

Answer:
People don't realize the things they can do with broken TV's. I know some people who make fish tanks, do things with the wires, and I even saw one guy who made a calculator with a recycled TV.I personaly, have no idea what to do with it. But take it apart and see if you can find something you can use! However, if you want to keep it as a TV and see if someone can fix it, ask your local tec-wiz or look up for some people in the phone book. If you look hard, you'll find someone who will be able fo fix it.

Question : Recording TV programs using Dell Desktop on a Samsung LCD TV?
I have a Samsung LCD TV and a Dell DesktopHow do I record Digital TV programs on to my hard disk? What do I need to achieve this? Can anyone add specific things I need for both the TV and the desktop. As the LCD TV has built in freeview and several HDMI ports.I am really confused. I dont need the tv tuner or anything? Which software can i use thats free?

Answer:
You'll need a TV tuner card (internal or USB). You'll be able to record OTA digital TV, or from a SAT or Cable box, but only in SD.UpdateIf your computer does not have a TV tuner (most don't), you'll have to add one. If you're interested in doing so (about $100), email me at jjki_11738 and I'll try to help you.

Question : How to repair my samsung lcd tv sound working but no picture?
My samsung lcd tv suddenly didn't show any picture on screen but nothing happened to the audio.Someone please helpme how to repair it.

Answer:
If you have no volume bar or menu showing on the screen, then it cannot be anything you have wired wrong.to see the picture on an lcd tv, you need to have back lights. the light shines through the lcd panel and you can see the picture. I suspect that you have video on the screen, but you cannot see it because the back lights are not lit. To prove this simply turn the tv on in a very dark room and tune in a channel so you can hear the audio. then with a powerful flashlight, point it into the screen and look around the edge of the flashlight for evidence of video. Be careful not scratch the panel with the flashlight as you place it on it..Back to your problem, the back lights are tiny florescent bulbs and a ballast to run them, similar to the ones in a shop light. If the lights go bad or the ballast fails them you will get your symptom. Many times if the lights fail then not all of them will fail all at once, so the others will start up and then after a second they will cause the ballast to quit trying. In this case when you first start up the tv, you will see a slight glow on the screen (if the room is really dark). Many times you can see which light isn't working, there will be a darker horizontal stripe. This usually means the panel must be replaced, and unless it's cover with a warranty, you will probably not fix it due to the costs. If it never glows slightly, then replacing the ballast may fix it. On some set this board is not available separately, but many have now been released. And on newer sets the ballast is part of the power board, and they have issues with a diode shorting so the part is cheap. With out a model number, I'm spit balling. The last thing that can happen, is there is a slight back glow and no picture is being displayed. This is almost alway the fault of the lcd control board. Like the ballasts, many of these boards are now available without buying the whole panel. At any rate, you know what to expect, there is nothing you can do, because a technician will need to fix it.

Question : PS3 connection to Samsung lcd tv via HDMI cable?
We have a ps3 connected to a samsung lcd tv via a HDMI cable. The sound settings are to HD but the sound keeps going off and on. Any ideas?Tried that Jaguar but the ps3 has to be on for the hdmi connection to be highlighted? Maybe it's a dodgy cable? Are HDMI cables that sensitive?Still playing up! Changed HDMI and it works on our Sony HD tv, Playstation3 ok so TV must be the problem. Spoke to Samsung and they werent sure so I'll pop into a local Samsung repair centre to ask if they knew what it could be. Tv suppports 1080i nd HD sp I dont know what it is?Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Answer:
It could be that you have the settings set too high for the TV. Go to sound options and set them to the lowest (Stereo 44.1kHz) your TV should be able to play this.

Question : What is the cheapest way to send my 40 inch Samsung LCD TV from New Zealand to India?
I am planning to send my 40 inch Samsung LCD TV from New Zealand to India. What is the cheapest way to send? and how much it can cost... its volume will be around 1058 x 240 x 672 mm? I don't mind if shipping takes some time I mean 10-15-20 days... but I want it at cheaper rate. Can anyone please help me?

Answer:
My husband just moved to Banagalore India for work and we went through this exact same process! After doing A LOT of looking around, we ended up going through FedEx but going via a freight broker - We used www.worldfreightbroker.com - their rates were less than half of those of going through FedEx or UPS directly yet we had the security of the FedEx reputation and insurance policies. Essentially freight brokers just have a massive freight shipping discount with the big freight companies due to bulk buying and resell the freight to you at a fraction of the cost you would pay if you went direct to the larger freight companies.

Question : My new Samsung LCD TV won't pick up the channels that I use to have from my old t.v.?
I just bought a new Samsung LCD TV a few days ago. I went ahead and scan for channels but I found some channels missing. I did a rescan but I still can't find the channels. I have an outdoor antenna that I use for picking up channels. Would I have to move my antenna around to be able to pick it up and/or is there any other solutions?
