samsung LN52A860

THIS TV IS JUST SIMPLY AMAZING. I first went to best buy for this tv onnly to find out they were selling it for around $3,600, so when i found it on amazon for more then $1,000 less i was almost in disbelief. I talked to the BB guy seeing if maybe i could get the price down and let him know how much i could get it for online and he started telling me that im going to get a TV with dead pixels. I decided to go with the online purchase anyway and to make a long story short NO DEAD PIXELS and an amazing tv for a great price.

Fantastic first HDTV Big Screen

Apologies for the short review as my time is limited right now ... but ... this Samsung is bottom line awesome. The narrow size is incredible ... the Touch of Color Blue is subtle but dynamic, and the features built into the TV are amazing. I would caution you to shop around a little bit as the prices for this set range from $ 2,250 to over $3,000. I paid around $2,250 for it by shopping around and timing my purchase correctly, and for $2,200 this TV is fantastic. If I had to pay $3,000 ... well ... there are a lot of great TVs in that price range ... but few can match the picture, sound quality, size, and features of this TV for under $2,500!!

Great HDTV with some build quality concerns

I bought this TV in February 2009 and it worked perfectly for a month, after which, the picture has disappeared. Upon closer look (about 5 inches from the screen), I saw a very-very dim image of pictures, menus, etc.

I called Samsung customer service and they have schedule the in-home service appointment within a week. I had to take the TV off the wall per instructions of the tech support. Upon inspection, the repairman has ordered new parts, inverter and the entire panel, as he wasn't 100% sure what has failed.

In a few weeks, he came back with a new inverter, installed it and voila, the picture is back. Not for long though... Three days later, the TV would not even turn on! After another week of waiting, another technician came over with new parts, tried the new main board and the TV is back online. Not for long though...

After the back panel was placed back, the TV would not turn on, so the tech had to take off the back panel again. He checked the connections and found one wire "semi"-loose. After connecting it back, the TV worked fine and upon further checking, the new main board was not required - the problem was the loose wire from the first tech.

The second issue was circumstantial; however, my previous Sony rear projection HDTV did not have issues for over 4 years, that is why I am concerned about the quality of my Samsung TV.

Though my experience with this TV was not very smooth, I have to admit that it has exceptional picture quality (it was even better before the new inverter though).

Pros:
Picture Quality
Appearance (1.9" depth)
DLNA (I was able to play most of my movies over 1Gbs network)
Infolink (though I don't use it too much)
USB ports (Pics, movies, etc)
21-month in-home warranty

Cons:
Questionable built quality
Somewhat convoluted menus
No picture aspect button!!!!!!!!
Some back inputs might become inaccessible with some wall mounts (I lost 2 component inputs with my mount)
Samsung's PC streaming server is extremely outdated and not very user friendly

Great TV, But Beware of Electronics Expo!!!!!!!!

I purchased this product through Amazon from Electronics Expo. I received the TV on time, spent 5 hours setting it up with my home theater and making sure everything was perfect. The picture quality is absolutely amazing. 4 Days later while watching the basketball game, the TV made a loud popping noise and turned off. I was unable to get a picture after that. I contacted Electronics Expo thinking they would just send me a new one since the one I bought was defective. Boy, was I wrong. The person I spoke to went on for several minutes about their policy and made me feel like it was my fault the TV died. He said there was nothing they could do and asked me to call Samsung. I then contacted Samsung and was told they would need to send a service tech out to look at the TV but it would be about a week before he could come out. I had no choice so I waited, took the day off from work when he was scheduled and then he didn't even come out. He called me the day of and asked what the problem was and I told him. He said there was no need for him to come since he knew what was wrong with the TV. He said he would have to replace the panel but did not have any available and would have to order one. He said they would call me to re-schedule the service. It has now been 3 weeks and I am still without a TV. I have contacted Samsung and they tell me to call the local service center but when I do I get an answering machine. I tried contacting Electronics Expo to see if they could call Samsung on my behalf. I was made to feel like a nuisance but afetr talking to a supervisor she took my information and said she would call Samsung on my behalf and would call me back to let me know what they said. I never heard back from her. Needless to say, this purchase has been a nightmare. I had to send in my credit card payment for the purchase price of the TV already. It doesn't feel good paying over 2 grand for a product that doesn't work. I am not giving this TV a bad rating, it is a wonderful TV, but I feel its necessary to warn other people before they purchase through Electronics Expo.

STUNNING, I am very impressed!!!

The Samsung LN52A860 52" LCD television is simply incredible! I have had my TV for about 2 months now, and I could not be happier. I spent about 5 weeks searching for a new TV late last year. I looked at a variety of manufacturers, including, Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic, LG, Toshiba and some others, and it seemed that i could not find a better picture(in my eyes) than the Samsung 860. The price range is a little cheaper than Sony, for the size of a TV that you are looking for, whether it be 46", 52" or larger. The 1080p resolution, the 120Hz motion speed option, the 50,000:1 dynamic contrast,(for some reason, the Sony Bravia TV's do not list the contrast ratio on their models?) and the 4MS response time are all the latest technical features that give you the best possible picture availiable now. The older Samsung models such as the 750, 650 and 550 series are not nearly as clear as the 860 series, and from what i have read, have had technical issues in the past. This TV has so many picture options and adjustments(some adjustments are not really noticeable) that it takes a couple days to go through the manual, this allows you to customize your picture to however you like it! The TV is only 1.5 inch thick or about 60LBS heavy which makes any kind of wall mounting much easier then the older and much heavier models. The picture is so life like it's like looking out a window, however there is one minor problem, there is a little glare of the screen that makes daytime viewing a little more difficult. The older models such as the 650 and 550 series, are alot worse and have more glare than the 860, so you have to think, a little, about putting your TV against a wall where the sun does not shine directly onto the screen. It's not like the TV is un-watchable during the day, its just that you may have to move a little closer to the TV, to not see as much glare, during daytime viewing. You also have to consider getting a surround sound system(if you don't already have one) as with the TV only being 1.5" thick, the speakers can only be so big, to be ablt to fit in the frame, but the sound is ok from the TV if you have to use it, considering how small the speakers have to be.
All in all, I am VERY happy with this TV, all my friends and family that I have shown this TV to, are as amazed at the picture quality as i am, this Samsung 860 will change the way you enjoy watching anything from sports, movies or regular network channels, ENJOY!!!

shuts itself off !!

Samsung LNS4051D 40-Inch LCD HDTV

The product was amazing for about an year but recently it started shutting itself off after 10-20 minutes of usage!! It would not power back on regardless of what I would do !

Eventually, after waiting for a few minutes, it would power back on. But this time on, the time to die would be much less!!

I am tired of the random power shut downs :(...hope someone can help out!

Defective LCD ...Please do not waste your money!

20 months after purchase, this LCD TV stopped working...no video, only audio when you turn it on. Samsung was NO help, and then when I searched the message boards on-line, I found hundreds of similar complaints. PLEASE do not buy a Samsung TV, as they do NOT stand behind their product. I feel like I have been completely ripped off by Samsung. This issue exists mostly in the 40 inch LCDs, but also in the 46 inch and 52 inch models. PLEASE take my warning seriously and save your hard earned money. Meanwhile, I'm joining a class-action lawsuit against these criminals ASAP.

Tried and Tested

I have had this set for over a year with virtually no problems. There is a slight fade when watching a broadcast HD movie with a lot of action. I have only seen it twice in the last year. Otherwise the set has performed great. Buying through Amazon was neat and clean. So for the price, this TV gives a ton of value.

Best TV ever

I bought these tv over a year ago and it is still better then all my friends tvs. This is by far the best tv I have ever owned. The contrast ratio is still one of the highest on the market. I use this tv everyday to watch sports, HDTV, and vedio gaming it preforms in every category.

Rating :

Excellent picture!

This LCD has one of the most attractive pictures with rich colors and excellent contrast ratios compared to any of the other LCD brands . Menus are fairly intuitive to use to make adjustments and set ups. Like any LCD there is a slight break up of the picture when the action becomes very fast. Video of fast moving water seems to create the most problems for breaking up. Almost all other action is smooth. For medium and small sized rooms this 40 inch screen seems like a movie screen. After more than three years, no problems at all with this quality set.

Very Nice 720P

I got this TV a couple years ago. I'd looked at it in the store, and I thought the picture was OK for what I was willing to spend. In addition, I have a 1080P Mistubishi, and 3 other 720P TV's in the house (I know - that's a sad commentary on our way of life ...) and this unit has the best picture of the 720P units (the others being a 40" Sharp a 32" Insignia and a 32" Dynex). Most of our TV viewing is either DirecTV or DVD's. The Samsung's picture is not quite as good as the 1080P Mistubishi, but its a close second and much better than the others. For the money, this Samsung was a very good buy.

Overall good tv for the price

I bought it a yr ago so there are probably newer models but it works great and I think it looks sharp.

+ Picture quality ( not the best I have seen but really good)
+ style. I Like the shape of the TV.
+ fairly light and thin
+ all the inputs I need
+ Has lots of settings to play with
- not 1080 P
- Dust is very visible on TV

Stunning!

This was probably one of my best purchases from Amazon. Not only did I get a great deal, but I also got an amazing TV. I did my research before buying and it always seemed to come back to Samsung for the best LCD's in both picture and service. Originally we wanted something 42" or larger, but eventually decided on this 40" model.

Delivery and set up was quick and easy. The shipping company CEVA called me the day before delivery to set up a time and I was impressed the following morning when they were actually in my driveway a few minutes early. The brought it in, unpacked it, moved it to my desired location, made sure that the remote worked and that it was receiving a picture. Definitely A+ service!

As for the TV itself? It was and still is as nice as I had hoped. The picture quality is clear, the sound is true and it looks beautiful. Besides watching TV, one of the features I've enjoyed are the A/V connections on the side which have allowed me to plug in my camera or camcorder for quick viewing on a large screen. It also has been fun to play our Nintendo Wii on. We started out with this in our Family/TV room, but recently moved it to our Game room and replaced it with the Samsung LN46A550 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. Another wonderful TV and just a little bit bigger.

Dead after 18 months

If you haven't taken out insurance for this model, do so ...now.

The TV has served me well, gaming is nice, picture quality is ok (you'll need to fiddle with the settings through), sound is average...Very little Bass.

Then the annoying things.

1. When you hit the button to change sources you are taken through loads of options that are not active. For the life of me I can't understand why I need to see the DTV source and the TV source. It should only show you the sources connected to the TV but this set has a mind of its own.

2. Power Up. There's an annoying white/blueish light that comes on at the bottom of the unit. Its very distracting and has not aesthetic appeal whatsoever. In face it looks as if the light from the LCD crystals are leaking through a fault.

3. From the time you press the power on button to the time you actually get a picture, you could make a cup of tea. Heaven forbid that you accidentally hit power off in the middle of some interesting news story...by the time the TV boots up again, the story is over.

4. Remote layout. For some reason Samsung have decided that you will always access its proprietary buttons. Why they couldnt hide the sync buttons is a mystery to me. They only work if you have a samsung dvd player.

5. Game Mode. This does nothing to improve the picture, sound or look and feel of the games.

6. Movie mode. Someone should tell Samsung that Movies are no longer recoreded in Sepia. Its just horrible.

Even though its good for the money, once you had it in my home there were just too many things I was not happy with.

Then after all that the damn thing died on me!

When I turn the power on, I can hear the customary click and instead of the expected secondary click and picture...it just keeps clicking and turning itself off. I checked online forums and it appears to be a problem with samsung TV's. There's a class action lawsuit in America since the problem only

Question : Any one buy the Samsung LCD tv with 120 mhz?
I'm looking to buy a LCD tv and have the Samsung 550 and 650 in mind. The biggest difference between the two that I can tell is that the 650 has 120 mhz and the 550 doesn't. I have read that the 120 mhz comes into play when watching fast action scenes or sports and prevents blurring. My question is, is it really with the extra money and will i notice the difference? Thanks!

Answer:
LCD technology produces two artifacts with on screen motion. 1) Motion Jitter - this is the most obnoxious of the LCD motion artifacts; it produces shaky, jittery trailing edges on moving objects. Best seen with scrolling credits at the end of a movie.2) Motion Blur - stretches the moving object out behind the image, best seen with high contrast between the moving object and the background.120 Hz does a good job with the removal of jitter. 120 Hz does a poor job on the removal of motion blur. In fact, the 120 Hz motion compensation co-processors do not have the processing power to complete their calculations under all live sporting event and movie scenes. They can and often do produce their own artifacts called halo (incomplete background processing) on the trailing side of moving objects. I find halo artifacts to be as obnoxious as jitter and recommend that you turn 120 Hz OFF during a movie, therefore, 120 Hz will be of some limited benefit during sports programs and gaming. Is this feature worth the price and complexity? That is subjective and a decision that only you can make. Come into my shop in Crystal Lake, Il. and I would be more than happy to show you a demonstration of jitter, blur and 120 Hz operation and then you could make-up your own mind as to the effectiveness of 120 Hz. Most of my customers are shocked when they see the truth!

Question : can i connect my desktop computer to samsung lcd tv?
i have desktop computer.. and samsung lcd tv with HDMI port.. now can i connect my computer to my tv.. please let me know as soon as possible..i am trying this for video conferencei have tv tuner card both internal and external..is it possible with that?

Answer:
If you want to use the HDMI port on your LCD HDTV to connect to your computer, your computer must have either a DVI or HDMI port.If your computer has a DVI port, you use a DVI-to-HDMI cable. If your computer has HDMI, you use a standard HDMI cable. If your computer only has old analog 15-pin VGA, then you cannot use the HDMI on your TV unless you upgrade your computer to a better graphics card with DVI or HDMI (assuming your computer has an AGP or PCIExpress 16x slot to accept the better graphics card).Hope this helps.EDITED TO ADD:Nope. That TV tuner card is absolutely irrelevent. It's for receiving a TV signal to capture video onto your computer, not for connecting to a display.

Question : PS3 connection to Samsung lcd tv via HDMI cable?
We have a ps3 connected to a samsung lcd tv via a HDMI cable. The sound settings are to HD but the sound keeps going off and on. Any ideas?Tried that Jaguar but the ps3 has to be on for the hdmi connection to be highlighted? Maybe it's a dodgy cable? Are HDMI cables that sensitive?Still playing up! Changed HDMI and it works on our Sony HD tv, Playstation3 ok so TV must be the problem. Spoke to Samsung and they werent sure so I'll pop into a local Samsung repair centre to ask if they knew what it could be. Tv suppports 1080i nd HD sp I dont know what it is?Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Answer:
It could be that you have the settings set too high for the TV. Go to sound options and set them to the lowest (Stereo 44.1kHz) your TV should be able to play this.
