Slow to change channels

First, kudoes to Amazon. I ordered this on Wednesday morning, choose supersaver free shipping, and it arrived before noon on Thursday (I live in Dallas/Fort Worth). Set-up and programming took 15 minutes (okay, I am a rocket scientist) and the DVD player works. The remote is intuitive for someone experienced with using remote conrols. The picture is 1366 x 768 (about 720), so you will not see the refinement of 1080 HD pictures, but I am not sure higher resolution is available on small sets like this. The contrast is good. My only complaint so far is the time to start up and change channels. The Sharp 22DV27UT takes about 2-1/2 seconds to change channels, which is unacceptable for channel surfing. In comparision, the Viewsonic N2201w takes less than one second and my cable box takes about 1/2 second. Start up of the Sharp is also twice as long as the Viewsonic. The picture of the new Sharp is slightly better than the 1-1/2 year old Viewsonic. I selected the Sharp because of better reviews of sound loudness as we be using it in large kitchen/dinette area. The Viewsonic's sound starts to distort at 50% volume level. The Sharp is clear and crisp up to full volume. I don't know which is louder, but the Sharp is goes louder with quality.

Revised Review

I purchased a Sharp LC-22DV27UT through Amazon on Feb 4, 2010. I don't watch a lot of movies but recently received some DVDs so decided to watch one last night.
I was not able to insert to DVD into the slot.
This was not a case of the DVD going in and being rejected or not playing correctly. I was flat unable to insert the DVD.
I called Sharp Service today and they did some very basic problem determination - unplug the power, wait one minute, then plug it back in. Tried again - will not accept the DVD. There is no Sharp Service Center close to me, so I have to wait two days until they find one and email me the shipping instructions. I, of course, have to pay the shipping costs. Then another 7 - 10 business days to get it fixed and shipped back. So, no TV for at least two weeks. (This might actually be a good thing.) I have no other TV and get very poor radio reception. I am physically limited so the TV is my primary source for news, sports, and entertainment.
I don't have any complaints about the TV itself - vivid visual images, good sound, easy to operate. However, I am just dumbfounded that Quality Control for a major manufacturer like Sharp would not catch a glaring problem like no being able to accept a DVD in the DVD slot. Maybe I'll upgrade my opinion if the repair process is handled quickly and actually fixes the problem. Until then - this thing is CRAP!!

I never heard back from Sharp, so I went on line with Amazon, clicked on order history, need replacement, explained why and was immediately notified by Amazon that they would send me an exact replacement with 1 day shipping and a free shipping label to send back the bad set. Received an email confirmation. The next morning, UPS delivered the replacement, I took the base off the old, attached it to the new, plugged it in, took 5 minutes to program channels, then tested the DVD player which worked like a charm. Didn't even unpack the rest of the components (since they are identical). Packed the old TV/DVD in the new box, taped it up and will drop it at UPS tomorrow.
I am completely satisfied with the new set and am absolutely amazed at the service from Amazon - I am an Amazon customer for life!

Bedroom TV

This was a great choice for a bedroom television. It looks great mounted on the wall and has extremely good picture and sound quality. The DVD is easy to use and works well. With the QAM tuner, I am able to get about 100 cable channels (some of which are HD)without a converter box. It was easy to set up and so far has performed flawlessly. I am considering a second set for my camper.

Great Buy.....one picky issue

Purchased this TV a few days ago. It's great......beautiful picture and excellent sound quality. One annoying issue - -when wall mounting this product, the stand is removed but the silver mounting bracket for the stand remains visible, sticking out of the bottom of the TV by about 2 inches. Sharp wasn't thinking on this one. Even a cheap plastic cover for the bracket would have been ok.

Great product for the money!

I bought this TV for the kitchen to replace a 13" that I had in there that was pretty old. This is the perfect size for the countertop and is easy to use, works great and has a great picture! The digital tuner works great with my cable provider and overall I am very pleased with the price and the purchase! If you are looking for a good buy and a solid product, look no further.

AWESOME LITTLE TV...

This little TV is great for a kitchen or as a small tv for a guest room or childs room. The remote is simple and concise. Setup is a breeze. Wall mounts easily. The picture is excellent. The viewing angle is excellent. I researched alot of 19" LCD TV's and decided on this one. Many other 19" tv's have a poor viewing angle...this one does not. The picture is clear. You will not go wrong with this TV. I have mine connected to a small radio shack Hi-DEF off-air antenna for the kitchen. I was amazed that I gets over 20 HD channels on it. The antenna is small and mounted outside. I would really compare this TV to Sony, Samsung. Its just as good. Not to mention the price..wow..it was about the same price as the bargain, off-brand TV"s. You wont go wrong with this little beauty! Youll see every pimple on American Idol! Whew hooh!!!!

Feedback

Delivered in a timely manner and as advertised. This is a nice TV. Took it out of the box and hooked it up with no problems. Picture quality does depend on the quality of the input signal, think about it. I have it hooked up to a good cable signal and the picture is great. Nice selection of inputs. Only complaint is the speaker volume. In a quiet room there wouldn't be a problem. I watch it while riding my Airdyne exercise bike and it needs the aux. speakers I hooked up to it so I can hear it above the ambient noise. Still was a good buy.

Good For Compact Spaces

My father was recently hospitalized and is now spending much more time in bed than before. Moving the large TV into his bedroom was not an option, so I purchased this from a local retailer. The following notes are after a couple of days usage.

Pros: this is a very compact unit and is not too heavy. It fits on a hospital bed table (like this one: Hospital Overbed/Over Bed Top Table Computer Tray ). This allows his caregivers to move the TV to easy viewing distance and is a real plus. I was concerned that the unit would be unbalanced, but the weighted base is more stable than I originally imagined. It seemed like it took a long time to find all the channels on his cable system during the initial setup, although I have not done this often enough with other TVs to judge. Finally, the basic controls are on the left side of the unit, and the TV can be operated without the remote.

Cons: The remote is not designed for use by an older person with declining eyesight. The controls on the side have no contrasting labels, only labels molded into the black plastic, and unless you have good lighting, it is difficult to use them. In my fathers case, the caregivers will probably be the only ones who can operate the TV.

One additional point, which was a pro for my situation. The plug is two-prong polarized, which works with my father's very old electrical wiring. A three-prong plug would have been a problem for me.

In our case, I placed the unit near the riser for the over bed table. This left a lot of space for other things if needed.

Recommended for anyone who wants a decent quality, small footprint TV.

Great Tv ! Stunning picture at a great price.......

I bought this Tv as a Christmas present for myself, and have been just blown away by the picture quality. i have it hooked to a Blu-Ray player and cable. I have done some adjustments to the picture to best suit my viewing preferences, but it looked pretty good right out of the box.
I researched several brands and models and thought for the price this was an absolute steal.
I havent seen a tv at this price with a better picture, great for a second set and bedroom tv.

attempting to give a fair review...

I'll start out by saying that I've only had this TV a few days. I will also say that I could be wrong about the possible options for changing what I dislike about this TV, or in my description of what causes it- but in my research so far I haven't found any reason to believe so. I'm always interested in hearing more information if I don't have the full picture though.

All that said- I personally just don't like this set so much. I bought this to replace a broken Sony XBR6 (also 32"), and this has been my experience so far, the good and bad.

Good:
- Picture quality: The picture quality on this thing really is amazing. Very deep blacks, crystal clear image. I had to tweak the settings a bit (I'll get to my thoughts on that shortly), and never quite found a setting that I thought was perfect, but even with that being the case the picture was stunning and I can tell that with proper calibration it's probably one of the best 32" sets you can buy as far as PQ goes right now.

-Picture settings. I'm actually kind of split on this. The picture definitely needs to be tweaked from store settings, and the good thing is that this set provides probably the most extensive set of options for calibration than any other set I've seen- so chances are you CAN get it where you like it. It's kind of a double edged sword though because there's so many settings that unless you really know your stuff it's difficult to figure out how to get the perfect balance.

Bad:

- Sound: Sound on 32" flat panels has never been known to be that great, but I almost immediately felt that the sound was very hollow and tinny compared to the xbr6. I messed with the audio settings- turned on the surround simulator and upped the bass a little bit. That helped, but I still found it lacking.

-Build quality/Styling: This is something that may just come down to opinion (styling is for sure), but I was rather unhappy with both of these things compared to my xbr. The build quality feels cheap and not very sturdy by comparison, and the styling in general I just felt was bland. The same feeling extended to the system menus for me- I like the design and look of the Sony's much more, whereas the Sharps feel more like a 90's computer menu or something.

-Remote: Weird choices for how they laid the remote out... the button to switch 'av modes' (basically profiles for picture settings etc) is enclosed in a little drawer so you have to open that whenever you want to switch between your movie/game/custom modes etc. In general I also feel the remote is just kind of ugly...

-Motion processing: This was the big one for me. Everyhing else being as is (although the styling still bugs me), I would have been willing to keep this set just for it's image quality. But this was a deal breaker. I've read on other sites that the Sharp ranks low in this area, especially compared to Sony, and I completely agree. Now this is where I believe it's possible i'm missing some information but I haven't found it yet. With TV based content it looks fine, but what seems to be the case is that you cannot turn off the 'film mode' image processing for any progressive signal based content (480p/720p/1080p). You can see the setting in the menu, but it is disabled (along with one other setting for the black levels I think)- and YES I am in 'dot by dot' mode.

What this effectively means (at least as far as my eyes can tell), is that there is no way to turn off the 'soap opera effect' on blu-ray content (and probably progresive-scan dvd as well I haven't tried that yet). I looked this up on forums and messed with every setting possible and I just could not get rid of it. Some people don't mind that effect, some like it, some say it's not even noticeable, but to me it sticks out like a sore thumb and I just hate it. So for me, I think this set will be going back in favor of the xbr9 or un32b6000 (hoping that doesn't have any similar issues).

So I'm giving this set a 3 stars- if I could I'd probably give it 3.5. I'm not that concerned with the fact that it's led or not, or that it doesn't have local dimming- all I care about as far as that stuff goes is picture quality, and this set is extremely high up when it comes to that. Unfortunately I just found almost every other aspect of the set, most notably the inability to turn film mode off on blu-ray content, to be unsatisfactory. It's a great value for the price, but at the same time, I can see why the price is much lower than the competitors in it's class.

UPDATE:
I'm going to bump this up to 4 stars, for a reasons that ultimately led me to keep it. First off, I found he game mode turns all processing off (even though the film mode is inaccessible with progressive content, I believe it is stuck 'off' in this mode instead of stuck 'on'), which I didn't know at first. And while I stand by my belief that the extensive picture controls may be intimidating for those that are less tech savvy and just want to be able to turn on and sit back, the controls were really great for doing a calibration with DVE. I actually picked up an xbr 9 and compared the two because I was having such a hard time choosing a set, and I was able to get the DVE disc calibration settings PERFECT with the sharp, while the xbr's limited controls wouldn't allow it. With the calibration settings set on the game mode profile, things are looking a lot better for me.

I still stand by everything I said before though. The build quality, sound, remote layout, and the fact that the other profiles are pretty much useless to me with progressive content are all downers, but with the picture this thing puts out side by side with the xbr9, it was absolutely no contest... I had to stick with the sharp, and I've actually been very happy with the decision (the xbr9 also has several other factors that I think were a step down from the xbr6, so that might have helped) 4 stars!

Don't hesitate, get this TV! -- with caveats, of course

I've lived with this TV for a about two months. We have three game consoles attached, incl. the Blu-Ray player as part of the Sony PS3. It is in our family room and is used several hours a day (I'm ashamed to admit).

On the plus side:

Fabulous picture, after some adjusting. There are a zillion adjustments on the TV, so if you spend some time, you can get a wonderful, uniform picture with great contrast and color saturation.

The black matte finish of the screen does away with all but the most severe (i.e., bright) light sources that might reflect from the screen.

Price.

Sharp Aquos brand.

No spotlighting or banding as one person mentioned -- very uniform lighting.

LOTS of inputs. (8 to be exact -- most, but not all are HDMI)

Easy to update firmware when available (did it yesterday).

On the negative side:

The built-in speakers. Way too soft, even on the loudest setting. Since we didn't want to have our stereo system on all the time, I attached an unused set of desktop computer speakers I had lying around the house. Now we have better sound than probably any built in TV speakers. Great solution that I recommend to anyone purchasing this TV. Of course, this is an issue with all flat screen TV's to some extent: tinny sound and lacking in volume, even for everyday use. (Get some computer speakers, preferably like those I have that do not have an on/off switch but switch themselves on/off when there is a signal. Piece of cake.)

All the adjustments you can make to the picture! Well, not a negative, but it takes awhile to find your way around all the adjustments, and Sharp is not good about explaining them. The out-of-the-box setup was not optimal: reds were a little pinkish, the picture was not quite bright enough, etc., but after some tweaking I have a spectacular picture.

When changing channels, there is a "fade effect" between channels that is annoying. I have not been able to figure out how not to get this effect. (There is a "fade effect" in the menu, but disabling it has no effect.)

Summary:

If you haven't seen a full array LED LCD TV, you're in for a treat. Don't let the premium priced Samsung LED LCD's tempt you either, because their LED's are all on the edges. This has a full array behind the screen so that the picture is much brighter (when adjusted) and more uniform. Buy this and get some computer speakers. You will not regret it.

full screen LED rules

What I liked:

1) slim, black, minimalist design enclosure. It looks cool.

2) The picture is the best, a notch or two above my
Samsung LCD. The image is sharper and the tonal range
is wider. Blacks are really black and whites are really
white. The millions of colors in between look good too.

Look no further!!

At first I thought I'd be the last person to ever buy a flat-screen TV, much less an HD. I took one look at the picture on this and was jaw-drop stunned! And that was just the analog channels. Once I figured out how to work the digital channels access I realized that I've never seen anything like this. I'm a previous owner of many Sharp appliances of all kinds over the years, ("from Sharp minds come sharp products"), and trying the Aquos on for size paid off once again. Keep all the Sonys, the more expensive Samsungs, the Panasonics, toss the plasmas and the so-called 720's too... if you like the most brilliant color, sharp, clear, "jump-into-your-living-room" definition, a huge range of adjustability, and surround-sound to boot, look no further! I added the extended-warranty for peace of mind, and it was only 90 bucks for 2 extra years--not bad insurance for an item like this..AND it's covered for service "in-home," so there's no annoying packing/shipping to fuss with. My recommendation: BUY this TV. Or a wider-screen version if you have the living room for it. This 32" replaced my old Sharp 27" and THAT had an excellent picture too. I'd give this 6 stars if I could.

Nice Combo Unit

I bought this to replace an older and smaller analog LCD TV in a workout room. I mounted it to a small Articulating wall mount for adjustable viewing throughout the room. The speakers are not as loud as normal units, but better than expected. The unit is very lightweight even with the built-in DVD. I love the fact that this unit has a built-in DVD player as it's perfect for playing all those workout DVDs without any other messy connections.

All-in-all, a great unit and easy to install and set-up. I just might buy another and get rid of that old analog LCD TV altogether...

nicest 19' combo TV / DVD

I bought this Television because i wanted to be able to watch TV in the kitchen and on occasion have the ability to let the kids and their friends watch a DVD during meals. This is a perfect addition to the kitchen. It is pretty thin, (considering it has a built-in DVD player) and doesn't stick out from the wall too far. It has an amazingly clear picture. The DVD feature works well and is easy to use. The remote is also really easy to use. The sound quality is adequate. I mean, who expects full surround sound in their kitchen? This is the perfect TV for watching the news while I eat breakfast. I am not going to invite the neighborhood over to watch the Super Bowl in my kitchen. If you are looking for a smaller LCD TV with DVD capability and a great picture, this is a solid choice.

NOT a power hog!! Awesome picture.

We have had this set (LC46LE700UN) for a couple of months now. Amazing picture when there is a HiDef source, even decent from low def stations. Colors are stunning (bright and clean) and blacks are BLACK, not dark gray. REALLY like the power stats too. I hooked up an amp meter to this set for awhile and ran it through multiple settings. When the "OPC" is on and power saving mode is in full swing, the 46 in. model showed .34 - .40 amps. With power savings mode (OPC) disabled and settings normal, it measured anywhere from .75 - .88 amps. In general terms, that gives you a full range of around 50 - 100 watts of power used. This unit puts out NO heat. We are using a different brand DVD player that upconverts to 1080p throught the hdmi cable and are very pleased with the results. Given the expected life of the LED backlight, and the quality of the picture, I feel it was a great purchase.

Beware of terrible SELLER!!

I am not here to review this item in particular but to advice people who is thinking on purchasing something from Electronics Expo, DON'T DO IT. This company is straight up garbage. I highly do not recommend buying something from them. Their customer service is terrible and if in case the product is defective or change your mind about it, there are no returns, just exchanges; so you can forget about getting your money back if that's the case. I would recommend on purchasing a product straight from amazon, which has an excellent customer support if something were to happen. Don't put yourself in a bad situation that you could regret.

Sharp 46" LED Aquos

Bought this 46" Sharp LED TV from "6ave" in December 2009. 6ave beat everyone's price to include the military exchange price (which includes no tax or shpping charges!) and all local big box stores. As for the TV itself, it was shipped promptly and arrived in perfect condition, double boxed, by UPS. (Thanks 6ave!) My 16 y/o son and I had it set up in about 15 minutes, programmed in another 10, and have been enjoying it since. We have cable and now receive 115 channels vice the previous 60 or so, with no change to our cable plan. The set up was 2 wires - the electric, and the cable. Loads of inputs/outputs on the back AND controls and inputs on the side as well, in case you wall mount it. Picture? Well, it depends. I felt it was a little out of focus even after a detailed setup, but the problem was we were receiving analog broadcasts on a digital TV. When we got to the digital channels, the picture was truly awesome. (For technical info, see the Sharp website - I won't bore you here). Picture and options are overwhelming and we are all very happy with: our purchase, the seller, and most of all the great price.

Dream in a Box

I LOVE this television. Price was outstanding but I should've waited a week to purchase it because Amazon cut the price even more, making it an even better deal! I give the TV 5 stars but delivery was a nightmare. The truck stalled at the bottom of my hill in a rain storm and the Sharp Aquos had to be loaded into my car to get it to the house. After that happened, the delivery person not-so-happily rode with me and took the TV inside (because I asked him to). He did not unbox it as promised by Amazon.

Black out, if the picture completely gone in the bottom area something wrong with the scanning process for the bottom area. But if it just get darken in the bottom area, the backlight for the bottom is fail to lead (small possibilities).

Question : Can you help me calibrate my new Sharp Aquos LCD TV?
I just bought the 65" Sharp Aquos LCD TV from Costco. Model # LC-C6554U.When we got it out of the box the picture was terrible with mostly the skin tones looking orangish and red. I played with it and got it better, but not perfect. The guy at the store said to download some sort of DVD online to calibrate it. Any suggestions? Or does anyone have the professional calibration for this particular set?

Answer:
Hmm, orangish and RED...that sounds like EXCESSIVE color saturation to me....Turn down the color control, make sure your TINT is right down the middle, the brightness is MID-WAY and your PICTURE / CONTRAST is set to MAXIMUM....Now look at the picture.....Do you think it looks normal or not ?Are you looking at LOW DEF or Hi DEF?Look at Hi Def....Now if you are STILL unsure about the picture, there's always BLACK AND WHITE TV SHOWS to verify PROPER Registration.Black and White has a VERY DISTINCT blending or Red , Green and Blue that creates a very GRAY gray...not Red/Gray or Green/Gray.That's why it's PERFECT to use for initial verification of whether a TV is properly white-balanced or not....If you turn off the color, and you go to say...Nickolodeon, and you find Mc Hale's Navy or The Dick Van Dyke show or one of the 60's shows that was recorded, then you found the PUREST Black and White that you can trust for this test...I Love Lucy, Gilligan's Island (only the B/W ones!) are the ones to use too. It's gotta be gray...If it's not, swap out your TV quickly before the EXCHANGE timetable expires !
