Great 2nd TV if you understand what you're buying

I wouldn't recommend building your home theater around this unless your needs are basic, but it's a great TV for the money. This set is ideal when your video sources are primarily standard def in 4:3 format, such as from a basic cable or satellite set-top box, but you don't want to buy something that's going to be obsolete right away. If you're thinking about buying this you should understand that this set can handle HD signals (over the air local channels or component input), but the picture isn't full HD quality. Audio from built-in speakers isn't great, but it does have a digital output.

Fantastic Value

This is really a neat TV. Fits in an amoire and the footprint was only a bit taller than a much smaller screen TV. Have it hooked up to UVerse and the picture and sound operate optimumly. Paid $299 at Best Buy two weeks ago. Sharp has excellent quality, and when it's time for HDTV will definitely consider the Aquos. Noted one reviewer said the sound was tinny. Not so with mine. The sound in fact is quite good. The more I think about the price the sound is even better!!!

Beautiful for Digital

For a change I didn't buy this TV from Amazon, got it at a small USCG exchange. The good - It has a beautiful digital picture using an antenna, I actually pick up 64 digital channels with an unpowered antenna here in Florida. It also aquires analog signals fairly well but who cares they're going away next year anyhow. The sound is pretty good, not at all tinny. Nice easy to use menu, switchable display ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 letterbox format for digital viewing. Has a sleep timer, V-Chip, color temperature setting and all the standard stuff. Uses only 60 watts power. The bad - no HDMI input, but does have component level, S-video and standard video inputs and it has digital audio output. For the price you won't go wrong on this nice little set.

Good all around LCD flatscreen TV

This is a great TV for a small bedroom or office area. I paid $350 for it after barginning with the salesperson when I bought a Toshiba 37" set for my family room. The discounted price in the store was $399.

Rating :

Poor Sound Quality

The sound quality is so bad you feel like you're listening to something out of a tin can. The picture is great, but the sound is hard to overcome. The audio is digital dolby - not stereo. We are going to return it and pay the 15% restocking fee for something with better sound quality.

Once again, Sharp, a leader in LCD technology, establishes a new design standard for LCD TVs. With a screen size class of 46", the AQUOS LC-46D64U raises the bar by fitting large screen sizes into incredibly small footprints. By changing the layout of circuits inside the LCD panel and by reducing the number of parts, Sharp engineers developed the Slim-line design, which reduces depth by 25%, allowing placement of the LC-46D64U in virtually any setting. The LC-46D64U utilizes Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View / Black TFT Panel with multi-pixel technology, providing 10,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio with Enhanced Picture Contrast Technology and 4ms response time. The LC-46D64U features built-in ATSC/QAM/NTSC tuners and includes 3 HDMI (version 1.3) inputs, compatible with 1080p signals, a PC input and 2 HD component video inputs. Sharp LC46D64U - Banding Ruined this Television

I absolutely found the banding issues (vertical lines of color non-uniformity) unacceptable when spending over $1000 on a television. I unfortunately did not do my research prior to buying this television, and was so consumed by the unbelievably low price that I jumped on it. What a mistake. After a few weeks of viewing (and researching) I began to notice the vertical banding issue that others have noted seeing with this television. Most noticeable as noted in other reviews - during panning shots and uniform color screens. I ended up calling Sharp and they sent out a local repair person to take a look. The tech immediately agreed that banding was prevalent and took pictures (attempted to anyway - not easily photographed). I then called up Sharp Aquos customer support, and after some back and forth, I must say that I am pleased with their service. After owning the TV for 10 months, they reimbursed me a pro-rated portion of the original price (I bought this directly through Sharp). I know they've offered others exchanges/ replacements, but I insisted that this was unacceptable as I know that although banding is not prevalent on all Sharps, I was not willing to risk it. It's a shame b/c the TV's functionality and such is really good - the banding and buyer regret was too much for me to take. Don't buy this television. Samsung (I just purchased the new 46 inch B750 series), Sony, or Panasonic are a much better bet. Check out "AVS Forum" or Youtube "Sharp Banding Issue" (Master and Commander example) or BING! "Sharp Banding Issue." Weatlh of information there. Word to the wise - do your research!

Sharp LC-46D82U Problems after 20-months

We purchased the Sharp LC-46D82U in June 2007 from a local Big-Box store. The television worked beautifully until February 2009 at which time it started experiencing a blanked-out or vertically lined area about 12 x 12 inches in the upper right had corner of the screen.

Initially the problem was intermittent but within several weeks the damaged area of the screen became constant. We contacted Sharp who contacted a local Sharp Electronics Master Service Center. After four visits to our home and the replacement of both the LCD Controller and an internal cable the problem remains. And yes, the problem was confirmed to be with the television.

Although Sharp Techical Support attempted to diagnose the problem, they were unsuccesful. Because of their attempts and the attempts of the Service Center I am giving this a 2-star rating. Otherwise it would be 1-star rating. The unit is out of warranty but we expected a longer service life than 20-months for the Aquos line of Sharp televisions. The Sharp was purchased to replace a Sony Trinitron that was still working fine after 18-years of use.

We are now researching for a replacement television and the Sharp Aquos line will not even be considered. We will probably purchase a Sony Bravia LCD since, in our experience, they are a better quality television.

No issues after a year

We purchased this TV on Black Friday 2007. A year later, we're still incredibly happy with our purchase.

HD signals look incredibly. Normal tv signals are still watchable.

I've noticed sometimes with really fast sports that the tv sometimes has trouble keeping up. This is pretty rare and usually with sports that involve fast panning by the camera.

The only other thing I noticed after we got the TV was that commercials are crazy loud. Our old TV I believe had a feature that automatically adjusted the volume level of commercials so they weren't louder than the program. This TV definitely does not have that feature!

Great Picture, Dumb Remote

Great picture, using over the air digital channel. If you are someoene like me who doesnt have too much time, doesnt mess around with too many settinmgs and is just looking for a good TV out of the box, this is one of them . I dont have the patience or the inclination to mess with too many settings. I just want it to work .
The only issue is that the remote design was done by someone who wasnt very bright. The remote is HUGE, not very well designed and the channel and volume controls are placed awkardly and not very easy to use them. It;s horrible to be honest. you have been warned. but if you can live with it, go ahead and buy this product.

Annoying horizontal band appeared

After having this TV for awhile, a giant horizontal band appeared across the bottom half of the screen. Now the tint of the bottom half of the screen is different from the top half of the screen. There is no setting or adjustment that can be made to fix this issue. This is extremely annoying and depressing given the amount of money I paid.

I Love It!

I bought this TV a little over one year ago from Amazon (it cost more back then!). I absolutely love it. The picture is amazing and I could not be happier with the purchase. The TV was delivered to my house and the company that was contracted helped me set it up to boot. I am very satisfied with the process, from start to finish.

One awesome TV

I may be a little biased, as this is my first HDTV, but the 52 inch Sharp Aquos really works for me. I was a little concerned that the picture would look strange at certain angles, like my Samsung monitor does, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Even at rather extreme angles the Aquos looks just fine, the only real difference is that the colors become weaker and not quite as strong. The sound is decent, certainly not home theater good, but the best I've ever heard from a TV. The Aquos has plenty of inputs, both in the back of the TV and on the right hand side. From the TV's menu, there's choices of 7 different inputs. Adjusting the picture is easy enough, with the exception of the "backlight" adjustment on the picture, which is confusing simply because I don't know what it does.

All and all, a great TV, and Amazon has it for the best price I've seen.

HD channels and DVD movies come in great. Picture not so great for non-HD channels. May be typical of all new flatscreen TVs'. Light, easy set up.

Great TV for the price!

At less than $1300.00, this was by far the cheapest 52" LCD HDTV out there AND it's a Sharp Aquos. It looks great, both form and picture, has lots of inputs and works perfectly.

The best 52 inch out there

After returning a defective Samsung LN-52A550, I decided to give this a try. Bhoy I made the right decision! Ignore any contrast ratio rating by so called experts. This is the one to own. Aquos picture is the best in the business. Clarity of pictures is so amazing. So crisp on HDTV, that we can't help on watching more blu-ray on it. I also use this as an awesome monitor while I type this review. Never again will I stray on another Korean brand like Samsung. Their quality and customer service is pathetic. I was also considering the SONY KDL-52V4100. Picture is not close to this Aquos. You have to get their XBR series to land a crisp picture compared to this Aquos.

Pros: 5Hdmi, 4ms response time . Slimmest of the bunch,3.0 Energy Certified. Amazing picture with correct setting, great design, Japanese quality, exceptional customer serice. This is Acura, Lexus of televisions

unbelievable picture. you can find calibration settings on cnet. I agree...contrast ratios are overrated....amazing picture and clarity. I also purchased the cheetah mount and had this tv on the wall in less than an hour. saved a lot of money compared to buying at bestbuy etc.

no negatives about this TV at all. I was comparing this to the Samsung and Sony V series....just got a heck of deal on this and I am not looking back.

Stopped working after 6 mths

This seemed like the best deal for the size tv I wanted. I first had a problem with the delivery. I was told the tv would be set up for me as long as I had the tv stand, but the delivery men said they were not authorized to do that and just brought the box inside. After having the tv for 6 mths, the picture went out. I called the customer service # and the rep said to hold down 2 buttons at the same time. When I did this, smoke started coming out of the back of the tv. They said they would send someone out to fix it in a wk, but no one showed up. When they finally did come they said they had to order a part and would be back in a wk. It has been over a week and still have not heard from them.

18 months of solid service...

I've had my Sharp Aquos LC-C3234U for over 18 months and it has served as an excellent HDTV. We have it mounted on the wall in our kitchen and attached to a DirecTV high def DVR. The picture quality is quite good for a bright room such as a kitchen. The unit has performed flawlessly during the entire 18 months and I hope to get many more years of service out of it.

I cannot comment on the audio quality because I've always used an externally powered 2.1 speaker setup. I assume the speakers are competent but not stellar which is why I've never tried them.

Question : How do i add a digital antenna to a 46 inch sharp lcd tv?
How do i add a digital antenna to a 46 inch sharp lcd tv?

Answer:
(This answer assumes you are located in North America)You connect it just like a old analog antenna. That's because all TV antennas are digital antennas. On most DTVs there is only one antenna input for both analog and digital broadcasts. The idea that there are special "digital antennas" is just marketing BS.You just connect the antenna and go into the DTV's menu and have it scan for digital antenna channels. (Note: You have to have the DTV scan for digital channels, it probably will not find them automatically like it does analog channels.)

Readers' Choice: HDTV Survey 09.20.06 Download Now: HDTVs.pdf Total posts: 13 It's about time. This year, along with satellite radios, we add HDTVs to the mix. And, as you might expect, readers rate all sorts of vendors offering all sorts of HD technologies, from plasma TVs and rear-projections to good ol' CRTs. But two companies stand out: Pioneer and Sony.If you look at the overall scores across all technologies, Pioneer is king, with a significantly above-average overall score of 9.0 out of 10. This has a lot do with the fact that readers prefer plasmas to all other HD technologies. Pioneer is one of the biggest plasma vendors, and it's the lone Readers' Choice for this segment of the market, with a 9.1 out of 10. It's also the Readers' Choice for rear-projection TVs, with an 8.7.In the big picture, across all technologies, Sony is just behind Pioneer, with an overall score of 8.5, and it receives a Readers' Choice award for CRTs (8.4), and LCDs (8.6). Readers also shared their experiences with front-projection TVs, but Sony was the only vendor rated. And because Sony received only 50 responses in total, a Readers' Choice in that niche category will have to wait until next year. PioneerNo one comes close. Pioneer garners the highest overall score. The company comes out ahead on rear-projection TVs and, in particular, plasmas.SonyLooking for an LCD model—or even a good old CRT? Look to Sony.
