SHARP LCD TV, LC-32SH20U
I bought this model in Sept. 2006 and within 18 months it started to fail upon power up. After several tries it would finally become functional. The screen posts a "please wait" message. Now, after a little over 27 months it is permantly in-operable. The same message is on the screen. While this tv has a nice screen, good resolution, etc. it is worthless when it won't come on. Poor reliability!!

EASY TO SET UP, VIVID COLORS, CLEAR PICTURE ON HD CHANNELS!
UPDATE: August 22, 2007--We now have DISH Sat Service and the HD Box and lots of HD Channels. This set is just wonderful. No problems after one year of ownership. The picture is very clear on all channels, HD or regular. And, this TV should last for years! When I do buy another HD TV, I will get a LARGER one about 48" and maybe plasma. However, the LCD is just fine.
First, let me share my experience. I wanted an HDTV, and FLAT panel LCD, not a plasma TV. However, I knew little or nothing about the LCD HD's. After thinking about buying one for months and looking at them in the stores, I asked the salesman which was the most simple one to set up and use. He suggested the Sharp. Since I liked the picture, I bought the Sharp. First, I had this connected to CABLE and a special HD box and I did not like the reception on the cable hookup. Then, I switched to satelite service, and quit my cable company. What a differnce in the picture, night and day difference, now I am in love with this TV! This picture is STUNNING and SUPERB. I see clarity and colors I never saw in my old analog JVC (and this was the best TV I ever owned until now). The picture quality and colors on this TV are breathtaking. I really enjoy the set and I love watching my DVD movies, HD tv shows and even local shows on it. Just to let you know, it does take time to get used to the picture and color vividness on the HDTV, but as you watch it more, you will not want to go back to the old tube type analog TV. The most important thing I learned is for a fuller screen is to put this on the ZOOM view. This way you do not lose so much picture. The Sharp book has been alot of help and also I went to Google and looked up all I can now about HDTV and am learning as I go. All in all, my eyes are happy now when I am viewing this TV! Sharp is a great TV! UPDATE: Monday, July 23, 2007 - The TV now rates 5 stars now for 2 reasons: 1) I have the DISH HD Receiver Box and have many HD Stations now, which look wonderful on this TV. (The older Cable service I have only had a few HD TV shows on it, the Dish has many more HD Stations and the colors are out of this world now). 2) I have read the book cover to cover and know this TV well. After all these months, I love this TV more and more and more...

Great Value / Excellent Picture
This TV is an exceptional value. Just received this yesterday from B&H and am very pleased. The picture (especially sports) is supprisingly good with very little blur, concisidering the contrast ratio and other specs are slightly below many higher end models. Using the component cables, DVDs look to be fantastic, I played Star Wars Episode III and really enjoyed the sound quality and pucture. The remote is easy to use, menus are easy to follow and the set-up was a breeze. I'm please with the purchase- The stand quality is high and the input jacks are firm. I don't have a lot of usage experience but based on value, picture quality, sound and harware quality would give this TV a 5/5.

Poor quality, poor service
I bought a sharp lcd tv from j& r in new york last Jan, after a year and half, when powering on the tv, sometimes works, sometimes not. after unplug in, wait for a while and plug back, worked for a couple months. Send it to service center to checkup, was told that the lcd control board needs to be replaced. when request to get back the replaced lcd control board, was told that sharp does not give back the replaced board, it has to be shipped back, otherwise, you have to pay additional fee to get back the replaced board.. it's rather strange to hear such a lousy policy from any vendor..
But, if you do want to get a sharp, better get a long long warranty..

Look for something else.
This has terrible motion blur in fast-moving scenes (or even medium-speed scenes), due to its high 12ms pixel response time. It is also very difficult to see detail in low-lit scenes, due to its 800:1 contrast ratio. In dark scenes, distinguishing what is going on is impossible. This TV was a huge disappointment. After doing much research, I have learned that you need 8ms or lower pixel response time to avoid motion blur on LCDs and contrast ratio at least 10,000:1 (recommended). Try to look for those two features (among others) when choosing an HDTV. This particular Sharp model is very basic. You could find better quality for your money with a different HDTV.

Excellent Bedroom Television
We're using this TV in the bedroom, and are very happy with it.
There are less expensive LCD TVs in this size, but after the Aquos LC20D42U arrived I didn't regret paying the premium.
The horizontal and vertical viewing angles are excellent, with very little change in color or brightness at extreme angles. Picture quality is very good for both analog and digital tuners.
We've wall-mounted the TV - and while Sharp customer service told me that it doesn't officially recommend removing the table stand, it can be easily removed by taking out a few screws.
A few things that keep me from giving this product 5 stars: - The digital tuner is slow to change channels. This seems to be a consistent complaint among lots of digital tuners though, in both TVs and DVD recorders. - Some tasks, such as removing empty channels from the tuner memory, require too many steps to execute.

1st smaller LCD with good off-angle viewing vertically!?
This is the first (smaller) LCD set I've seen that has a good off-angle view when looking up (first of a new generation of smaller sets with upgraded LCD as found on bigger sets)! I once got burned by a Toshiba 23HLV87 (off-angle view when looking up was terrible) which I exchanged for a Toshiba 26LV47 (off-angle view is great up/down as well as from the sides). After my experience with the Toshibas, I found that many smaller LCD sets (`bout anything smaller than 26") that look good from the sides (and some looked good from above) have a terrible off-angle view when looking up. I've wanted to replace my kitchen TV (mounted high) with an LCD, and after a call to Sharp to verify this screen does indeed look good (when looking up), I ordered (the owner manual says the viewing angles are 170 degrees horizontally and VERTICALLY)! This is the first (smaller?) set I've seen with specs that specifically state off-angle viewing angles both horizontally AND vertically, so I assume this is the first generation of smaller sets with an updated LCD screen as found on most 26" and above sets. I have previous good experience with a well-used Sharp Aquos, so hopefully the quality/performance of this set is just as good. BTW...if you want to download an owner manual (not listed on Sharp USA site for this model), you can either e-mail Sharp USA customer service and they'll e-mail you one or you can visit Sharp Canada's site. Since Amazon doesn't seem to want to allow me to post an external link, just Google "LC20D42U manual" and the first hit should carry you to a page full of Sharp Canada manuals-they seem to have a much more extensive list of downloadable manuals than Sharp USA.
PROS First set under 26" I've found that has good off-angle viewing when looking up! Built-in HDTV tuner: (I have Comcast, and can get about 10 over the air channels through my cable by bypassing the DVR). I have no cable box/DVR in the kitchen, so I should be able to receive channels 1 though 70+ as well as approximately 10 over the air HD channels (based on current experience/HDTVs). Picture quality: Comparable, if not better, than my Toshiba Regza and old Sharp Aquos. CONS No channel labeling!!! (my 26" Toshiba Regza does!) It's much nicer to label each channel rather than remembering what station 105.1 etc is! Base doesn't swivel (it does tilt) Sound is a bit on the weak side Remote not lighted Remote cannot control other devices!
After living with this TV for a few days, I'm lowering my rating from 4 stars to 3 due to missing features available on my other sets (don't see any way to change the star rating at Amazon)! If not for size restrictions, I think I'd just get another Toshiba Regza (26LV47, or maybe the model without the built-in DVD player) instead of this Sharp. The 1 big thing the Toshiba has going for it is channel labeling! It's tough to remember channel 105.1 is ????-would be nice to be able to label each channel with station call letters!

Aquos Rules
Although this little TV is a bit costly it is well worth it! I purchased it for the bedroom and the clarity and color are great. This little set delivers perfectly for a smaller room. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Great TV
Everything I wanted - I have two 20" and one 32" of the same TV. I imagine if you were a real TV freak you could find imperfections, but they all work great for me. Worked perfectly (all three) out of the box. There is a start up delay and channel change delay, but that is apparently inherent in this type of TV (have seen the same thing in other brands. All are hooked up to sort of crappy community cable systems and the pictures are great - would imagine a hook up to a dedicated satellite would be outstanding.

Excellent TV - Must have HDMI Output
I own a 60" Sony, and two 32" Sony LCD's. I wanted a small unit in our kitchen to allow us to watch HD Sports, News and programs in that space, where we spend a considerable amount of time, given the size of our family.
In the Bay Area of California, we use Comcast for Cable, and I picked up the Comcast Cable Receiver. At first, I was extremely dissapointed by the volume. The picture was fine, but the volume was so low, I was considering sending the unit back. Then I realized the Comcast unit only had a component video output. I brought it back, and insisted on a Comcast box that had an HDMI output. Once I had a video receiver that allowed me an HDMI output, to go to the Sharp HDMI Input, two changes occurred.
1) Volume increased by 1,000 pecent. Where before the HDMI connection I could barely hear the TV at a volume level of 100, now I don't turn the volume beyond 25%.
2) The picture improved dramatically.
Great TV. Great price. HDMI connection is a must for this unit.

Returned This TV
I do not know how I did it but this TV did not have the one feature I needed on it. (I will not debate where that issue lies) Although it was stated at the time of order the TV was in stock and would ship in 2-3 days it did not ship for 9 days after the order. The cross country shipping took longer than expected. The TV arrived with a plastic shrink wrap over the manufacturers standard packing like you would get if you bought it at a retail store. That does not seem to be a safe way to ship an LCD via UPS ground but it appears to have made the voyage in proper working order. The LCD TV had been opened and the box had some sort of stickers or labels removed after being cut off the cardboard. My return was processed after being threatened with a 20% restocking fee and told if it was not in "as new" condition the refund was not going to be given. Nowhere was that mentioned when I checked the "stores" policy. The only information given about a restocking fee was if an item was returned with out an RMA which I was given. When all was done the refund was given and no restocking fee was applied. This is the last time I will order something such as a LCD TV online. I would rather pay $50 more with a local big box retailer and take it home the same day, be able to return it without shelling out big $$ shipping to return.

NEVER BUY a Sharp
I purchased a 37" Aquos about 3 years ago, paid $2000.00. The sound has gone out and the repair shop says $750.00 for the part plus labor. I already paid $50.00 just to have it looked at. Sharp customer service is a JOKE, the girl told me to try unplugging and plugging back in. I did, that did nothing. I have received no further contact from Sharp in response to e mails and phone calls. After searching online this seems to be be a common problem with many of these Aquos, different sizes and models all the same problem. Spend your hard earned dollars elsewhere. I now have a 37" dust collector.

Sharp Aquos 26"
Received TV quickly. Plugged TV in and setup was easy. After 5 days we had to unplug the TV and when we plugged the TV back up the TV no longer worked. There was no picture and no sound. Strangest thing I've ever seen. Seemed unbelievable.
Brought the TV in for service and the whole board controlling video and audio sound was burnt out and had to be replaced.
After only having the TV for 5 days I thought Sharp should have taken the TV back.
Sound is satisfactory. Remote control is easy to use. Non HD channel's clarity is decent but can't be stretched to fit so there is a black border around the picture. But that does not diminish your picture watching.
Basically, we are happy with the set.
I'd recommend the TV to a friend.

Good for the Money
Nothing exceptional about this TV but it performs as advertised. Several other reviews mentioned the delay when using the internal tuner and it is a bit frustrating but if you have a STB it won't be apparent. Picture quality is decent but I don't have it connected to a digital source so it's difficult to get a true representation. For the price, I'm very satisifed with the purchase!

Couldn't be much happier
Picture: The TV picture could be clearer/sharper, but that may be a question of signal quality. Difficult to get the color to be consistent between channels/programs. Almost have to readjust it every time you change channels. DVD picture quality depends on the DVD. Sound: Good "surround sound" effect. Volume is adequate if you're within 15 feet. Beyond that, it fades. I plan to connect it to external speakers. DVD Player: Excellent. The several DVD's I have played have played perfectly. Overall: It meets my needs.

I love my Aquos T.V.
The picture is gorgeous. It's very bright, so I don't have to pull down my shades to watch T.V. in the daytime. When an HDTV signal comes through it looks almost 3D. The remote is easy to use and the DVD player works like a charm.
I actually feel guilty that I got such a great deal...O.K. only a little guilty.

Surprisingly good.
When I was younger Sharp was known as a "discount" brand, so I was a little reluctant to buy this. But wow - I got a surprise, sharp picture and good sound. Maintain colors and light from almost all viewing angles.
Unbeatable.

Question : what is wrong with my TV? I have a Sharp LCD tv (LC-15SH7U) and it will not turn on.?
When I push the power button the red light turns on for 3 seconds and then turns off and the TV does not turn on. What is wrong with my TV?
Answer:
It is indicating a fault, and it is in the fault detection self-protection mode. If there is an internal fault or component defect, it would have to be professionally serviced. Is the set still under warranty? If so, contact Customer Service as instructed in the owner's manual to get warranty service. If it is not under warranty, try this procedure before taking it to be diagnosed/repaired. Note: This procedure sometimes works for some digital TVs to reset it to factory default settings if the TV's memory got "wiped" due to a power surge or fluctuation. It will not work if there is an internal fault, defect or component failure.1. Unplug the TV from AC power and leave it unplugged for at least 10 minutes.2. After that time, and before plugging it back in, press and hold the TV's main Power On/Off switch (button) for about 10 seconds. Release the power button.3. Plug the TV back in. Press the Power On/Off switch as you normally would to turn on the TV. If it powers up - great! If not, try pressing and holding the Power On/Off switch for about 10 seconds or until the TV powers up, whichever comes first.4. If it still will not power up, this indicates that there is an internal malfunction. It could be a blown fuse or power protection circuit, or a blown power filter/surge capacitor, or it could be worse. There's no way to really tell without troubleshooting the set to determine the cause of the fault condition.
