| Editorial Review :
Once again, Sharp, a leader in LCD technology, establishes a new design standard for LCD TVs. With a screen size class of 42", the AQUOS LC-42D64U raises the bar by fitting large screen sizes into incredibly small footprints. By changing the layout of circuits inside the LCD panel and by reducing the number of parts, Sharp engineers developed the Slim-line design which reduces depth by 25%, allowing placement of the LC-42D64U in virtually any setting. The LC-42D64U utilizes Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View / Black TFT Panel with multi-pixel technology, providing 10,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio with Enhanced Picture Contrast Technology and 4ms response time. The LC-42D64U features built-in ATSC/QAM/NTSC tuners and includes 3 HDMI (version 1.3) inputs, compatible with 1080p signals, a PC input and 2 HD component video inputs. Side terminals are included for wall-mounting convenience as well as RS-232C input for control.

Great TV
Awesome TV for the money at the time I bought it! Had it well over a year now and it's been great! Sound and picture quality are superb. Styling is nice which sets it apart from the other brands. Set-up was a breeze too! I cannot complain about this Aquos in any way! I Look forward to having it for years to come!

Great TV
I was a little uneasy buying such an expensive product online, but I love this TV, and with a good calibration setting, it's excellent. I went with the 4ms refresh rate because my husband and I play a lot of video games. If you buy this in stores, you will pay double the price!

Good quality for the Price
We purchased this until for our family room. Excellent picture. Sharp provides an extended warranty. An initial problem required an onsite service call which was handled very well at no charge. Turns out that the TV can be set internally for use in a hotel room, store display, or a home. Mine was set on "store." Help agent couldn't figure out the problem. The service person who came got it straightened out.
The delivery was handled very well. The delivery person helped to set it up (really does require two people). Do not try to set this tv up by yourself. The controls are easy enough to use; high def sports programs are unbelievable. Paid just over $1,000 for the unit -- a good buy.

Don't try firmware update!!
I have a Sharp TV(LC-42D64U). I bought it in Sept 2007. I have used the TV for about 2years. I recently downloaded firmware update(d64ua120.uvp) for my TV from sharp website. First, I formatted my thumb drive to FAT. Then I moved the new firmware file to my thumb drive. Finally, I put my thumb drive into my TV and attempted to update new firmware. I also followed all the necessary steps such as selecting update from the main menu, etc. But when around 12% of firmware update was completed, I got a message saying that the updating process has been failed. I tried it again and again but the same message popped up every time. I turned my TV off and then turned it back on. I called Sharp customer service but they couldn't fix the problem. Now my TV won't even turn on. It's just black--just the green power light and green OPC light blink alternatively. Finally, I had to take the TV to a Sharp recommended repair shop only to find out that the main board has been "wiped out" and that I would need to replace the board. It'll be $605.00(included labor charge) + tax to fix it. OMG!! I can't believe it. I just tried to update the new firmware!! I've updated new firmware before without any issues. I did not do anything differently this time. I don't get it!! I don't like Sharp TV!!! Don't try firmware update!!!

Great for all my display needs.
I bought this baby after my Samsung broke down after a year, unfortunately out of warranty (Should've got the extended warranty. Oh well, live and learn I suppose.)
First I should say that I don't use this tv for the analog tuner or even watching cable tv, as I do not have a cable box or an antenna hooked up, nor desire to. What I do use this for is displaying all sorts of content from browsing the web, to deathmatch games directly from my pc's video card (via dvi to hdmi cable) and gaming via my xbox.
Let me say that if you're a serious gamer longing for the lag-free response time that you'd get from a crt, only on a large, high def screen, then you need not look any further. This TV has a game mode that's actually useful. My mouse cursor doesn't lag, and timing sensitive games play just like on a crt. All but the most seriously competitive twitch gamer would be quite satisfied with this tv. It has a maximum refresh rate of 60hz so it's not as silky smooth as some of the faster crt's, but it's quite satisfactory for me, especially considering the other lcd offerings out there.
If you're using this as a pc monitor it's also great, just make sure you hook it up through a digital connection, it supports just about any resolution I could throw at it. And just press the "view mode" button on the remote to get the full resolution of your video device without any overscan, it makes for very sharp, readable text (especially at 1920 by 1080).
As for image quality, it's top notch with only very very minor flaws. It should satisfy all but the nuttiest of image quality enthusiasts. Bright sharp screen, great colors, good viewing angle. As for the flaws, you really have to be paying attention to notice them. I suppose the most noticeable one is that on the left and right sides of the panel, the display is a bit darker, it's just on the very edge, so you won't be looking there most of the time, therefore, not that big a deal. As for the banding issue, it's there, but it's a very subtle effect, and it's noticeable on some content more than others and doesn't detract from my enjoyment significantly. There's also a very subtle issue that I suppose is only really noticeable when you're relatively close to the screen, i'm not sure if it's the way the pixels are arranged on the panel, or the way the panel processes images, but it manifests as being perceived as an uneven arrangement of pixels, most noticeable on high contrast areas along straight lines. The viewing angles are great, but not as great as on my samsung, but the vast majority of the time this is not noticeable.
I suppose if whether or not you choose this tv it depends on your priorities, if you're more of an image quality nut, then you might want to see samsung's or sony's offerings. If you're more of a gamer, I'd definately recommend this tv over anything else out there.
So in short, it's great for all my needs. Your mileage may vary.

Customer Review :
Sharp Aquos LC52D43U satisfied with Non HD quality
My primary goal was to get a large screen TV that is good with regular Non HD channels because most of the channels that my family watches are Non HD being Indian language channels which may take a few years to convert to HD. So I recently purchased an LCD from a big name TV maker 46 inch 1080P and did not have a very good image when viewing Non HD Indian satellite channels. I am not sure if this is just an issue with that particular set or with the model itself. I returned that TV and got a Sharp LC52D43U and am much satisfied with the image of Non HD channels. The packaging, the stand and overall externals also looked quite good. I cannot rate the reliability of the Sharp TV because I have had it for just a week but the picture quality for Non HD is good. There are two dimensions to enjoying a large screen TV. One is the larger image and the other is the better quality / higher resolution picture. If you watch a lot of Non HD content, it is best to ask the sales person to hook up the TV of interest to an antenna or regular cable and test the set out for the picture quality because there are a lot of large screen 1080P TVs out there that have poor picture quality for Non HD channels.

Great budget TV
I have had this tv for about a year now. I'm very happy with it. When I was contemplating which tv I would buy, I had to figure out if I wanted 720p or 1080p, or if I wanted a plasma or LCD. I decided to go with an LCD because I didn't want my tv watching or video game playing to be hindered by the thought of burn in or image retention. Although it really isn't that big of an issue, especially nowadays, I figured that a small drop in picture quality would make up for me not worrying about it.
Anyway, I really didn't have an idea of what TV I wanted, but I wanted it to be cheap and big, and that pretty much ruled out 1080p. Also, the fact that at this size, if you are sitting back 10 feet or so, you won't even be able to notice the difference between 720 and 1080.
Anyway, I ended up seeing a really good deal on this last year, and although I couldn't find much info on the set online, anything I could find was favorable. I bought the tv and I am very happy with my purchase.
The image quality is great (for HD and Blu ray). One thing that is necessary though is to sit far enough away. If you are sitting within 7 feet, the picture can get pixelated, but if you are more than 10 feet away, it looks great. The colors seem to be pretty accurate, and the black levels seem good for an lcd.
Standard definition is pretty good as well, but there is a serious quality difference when you flip between hd and standard channel (which is to be expected). Also it takes maybe 2 seconds to switch between a standard channel to an hd channel. This is because it has to switch to 480i to 720p. Not too big a deal, but it is worth a mention.
One con I can think of is the sound quality. The speakers on the tv don't get that loud, and it can sometimes be hard to hear dialogue on a dvd or blu ray if there is a fan going or if there is any background noise at all. The volume goes from 0 to 60, but it seems as though the sound doesn't increase much at all between 30 and 60. This was only a problem with dvd's and blu rays playing from my ps3 though, because when I was watching digital cable it was always loud enough. I ended up solving this problem by just getting a sony surround sound system though.
Also, this only has 2 hdmi ports. This isn't really too big of an issue because hdmi splitters can be bought for cheap, if you ever even need an extra hdmi port.
Overall I would say that my experience with this tv has been great. There are definitely tv's with better picture, but if you can get this tv for around 1,000 I would say it would be a steal. As long as you give yourself 10-12 feet of viewing distance (which really you should do with any tv this size), this tv looks great. Honestly, unless you are willing to pay hundreds more for a slight increase in picture quality, you should check this out.

Do it with quality, do it in style. Make the move to widescreen, flat-panel elegance with Sharp's 30-inch, widescreen, HDTV- and PC-compatible LC-30HV4U Advanced Super View LCD television. Part of Sharp's stylish AQUOS line, the 1,280 x 768-resolution LC-30HV4U offers a 16:9 aspect ratio to match your favorite movies, as well as high-definition resolution up to 720p (progressive-scan). | | Sharp's flat-panels are a fraction of the width of traditional CRT TVs. | At a mere 3 inches deep, the set is perfect for wall mounting, though it comes with a table stand for desktop positioning. The set also includes detachable speakers with 10 watts per channel audio power. TD> | | Sharp's ASV panel offers exceptionally wide horizontal and vertical viewing angles, so you can watch TV from anywhere in the room. | The Advanced Super View screen offers exceptionally wide (170-by- 170-degree) viewing angles and a high contrast ratio of 500:1 for super-black blacks. Its high brightness (430 cd/m2) ensures wide dynamic range for vivid colors, great depth, and realism. You can place it anywhere--near windows, doors, or other light sources--and its picture will remain vivid. And, with its 60,000-hour lamp life, the backlight life is long enough to give you viewing pleasure for many years. A built-in 181-channel tuner lets you plug your cable TV right into the LC-30HV4U and start watching. | | AQUOS TVs strive for a high level of energy efficiency. | AQUOS LCD TVs are Energy Star compliant devices, and consume up to 60% less power than CRT systems and about half as much power as comparable plasma TVs. Two-tuner POP (picture-on-picture) includes a pair of independent cable TV tuners so you can watch two programs side-by-side, or record one program while watching another. Being too thin to house its many connections (a direct-digital DVI input, two high-definition component-video inputs, four each S-video and composite-video, and an XGA-resolution PC input), the LC-30HV4U comes with a stand-alone AVC System--a set-top box that houses all terminals, minimizes clutter, and preserves the panel's austere look. (For greater placement flexibility, Sharp makes an optional 30-foot extension cable for this device, model AN-PZAVC1.) What's in the Box LCD TV, detachable speakers, AVC system (set-top box with all terminals and a short connection cable), table stand, and user's manual.
Customer Review :
excellent LCD HDTV
This is my first wide screen HDTV and I am impressed. Just watched "Friday Night Lights" with a composite video cable from a progressive scan DVD player. Now I know it's pathetic to use that low end cable but it's all I have until I get component cables. Even with that the picture was great! And the form factor is beautiful with the separate AVC box. 2 thumbs up.

Truely is worth every penny
In all seriousness, if you are looking for a quality flat-screen TV, your search is over. The clarity, plus the features, and the good customer service make this a great buy. It would be nice if it were slightly larger for the price, but I can't really complain.
I have a warning though. It's highly addictive and really should be sold with a Surgeon's General Warning on it. I used to be an active, productive citizen of this country, but since I purchased this tv, my productivity has plummetted down the chutes. Even as I speak, there is a graveyard of pizza boxes and potato chip bags surrounding me. I can't leave the tv. I used to have an inferior "box tv", and thought it was plenty enjoyable. But when I got this tv, it was like trying "Ecstasy" for the first time... I had never experienced such a realistic picture, that it was almost surreal! When I thought back to what I had before, I never wanted to go back. Now I am a "Flat-Screen Junkie".
(This makes a great retirement gift, because old people already have money and don't need to be productive)

The best money can by
Well, I'm an unhappy shopper! This 30" widescreen LCD from Sharp was the one I really wanted to buy, after salivating over it many times at my local Best Buy, but because it was well over two grand (plus I was unemployed), so I could only look but not own. Finally I got a cheaper Olevia set, which I'm happy with, but now that Amazon has lowered the price on this Sharp, I wish I had waited. The Sharp's image quality and overall reliability makes it worth the several extra hundred dollars.
Ok, enough venting from me. In case you haven't compared the various LCD TVs from different brands in person, there's no doubt that Sharp's LCD offerings are among the best. Compared to other brands (including my beloved Syntax Olevia), Sharp offers these following advantages:
- Top-of-class image quality. Well some other companies may cite higher contrast or brightness in their tech specs, none offers the same kind of image quality that you'll perceive *subjectively* as Sharp's high-end LCD TVs. Whether it's live sports or the latest DVD movies, the Sharp just does it better. Maybe they use better liquid crystals, or (more likely) better signal processors, Sharp LCDs just give you a better picture.
- Better black-level details than other brands. LCD TVs are notorious for failing to reproduce details in the dark end of the spectrum. If you enjoy movies with lots of dark scenes, you should probably stick with a CRT like Sony's Trinitron. The new Sharp models are better than most, though.
- More refined styling and user interface. Older Sharp Aquos models had the typical first-generation bland looks, but the latest models are stylish and cool.
- Better reliability. I speak this from experience (my own and my friends'). LCD monitors (like all other monitors) have limited bulb life. Almost all LCD TVs you'll encounter now claim "up to 60,000 hours" of bulb life. But when you compare the Sharp with a Syntax or Westinghouse or HP or LG, you'll notice that the Sharp has a more solid feel, which gives you more confidence over its life span than with the other brands. (If you are a Mac or Sony fan, you know what I'm talking about.)
I think if money is tight but you still want an LCD TV, you should consider the Syntax Olevia model. But for the best LCD TV money can buy, get a Sharp. This 30" is good if your viewing distance is less than 8 feet -- a rule of thumb is the you should get a screen size four times the viewing distance. If you want a bigger screen, LCD TVs aren't the answer yet -- the 37" Sharp Aquos costs twice as much as this 30" model! For bigger screens you may want to consider a plasma (Hitachi and Panasonic and Pioneer are the best) or (gasp!) DLP or LCD-based rear projection TV. But for freedom from screen burn-in, better image quality than plasma, and thinness, LCD is the way to go, and this Sharp, at the new price, is simply the best.

Sharp and Stylish and Family Friendly
UPDATE 16/10/2004-- IF YOU WANT TO SEE MORE PICTURES OF THIS TV, HEAD ON OVER TO TIGERDIRECT WEBSITE. THEY GOT A LOT OF DETAILED PHOTOS.
In choosing an Lcd Tv, there are a couple important things to keep in mind: one, video-image quality-- not just what the specs claim for contrast ratios and response times, but what _YOU_ as a human viewer think of the image, and two, is the Tv going to last a long time? Lcd is fragile, and it's expensive!
I searched long for a colour Lcd Tv. The only thing I knew for sure was I wanted a 27 or 30 inch set for affordability considerations. The previous reviewer about right: 30" is good from about 8-10 feet-- 2-3 meters for us who prefer metrics. I think you ought to go to a store and see for yourself what screen size is good for you.
To borrow an analogy from the Mp3 world, the Sharp 30" Tv is like combining the style and friendliness of the iPod and the unmatched output quality of a Creative Zen. Well-- the sound on the Sharp itself is acceptable but not home theatre grade. You should get your own audio setup-- my suggestions include Onkyo, Yahmaha, so forth. What it excels is topclass video quality. Prior to getting this Tv, I spent many hours doing homework and watching tons of Tv in stores. My end conclusion was, Sharp has the best quality-- plus smart cable management so all those messy Av cables get hidden. Since I was going to spend a bloody bunch of money on a Tv, I expected it to be topclass and perform like a champ. What pleasantly surprised me was this excellent 30" Tv was actualy cheaper than many 'no-name' brands I found at CircuitCity, BestBuy, and other stores.
I just got my Tv last night, and so far it's met and exceeded my expectations. I had seen it many times at Tweeter's, but now that I have one in my living room, I realise how much better it looks, aesthetically and video-wise. O yah, you _SHOULD_ get the Avid tuning disc which you can order for $35 from Amazon.
My summary: Lcd Tv is still a high-expense item for most families, but if you've got the money, go for the best-- Sharp Aquos Lcd Tv!

Awesome TV for the price. Just so you know, it does have a L/R output. Not sure what the other guy is talking about. I run it with my Xbox and Laptop. Im glad I went with this TV, great value and very good if you want a TV for a smaller room. The only thing I didn't completely enjoy is the fact that the base does not allow for vertical movement (meaning that your entertainment center or tv stand needs to already be at a perfect height. Other than, really GREAT buy.

Wow!! The Sharp 26" TV came in record time! I ordered it on Sunday night and it was at my house on Tuesday. Service fantastic, AMAZON! The digital picture is terrific EVEN with only rabbit ears (no cable). Only negative is the slowness of channel changing. I wasn't use to that, but I'll deal.

4 star Digital or 3 star Analog
I got this tv to use just for that, a tv. Because I have Cable, I was able to try it out with an Analog signal to start with and the picture quality was not very good. I was told it could be because of the tv tunner and this could be true because when I connected a Digital signal, the picture quality was Excellent. HD is good, sound is good, ajustments are easy and good, enough imputs for me and the TV itself is sturdy. However, the Remote could be bigger and the manual is cheap and leaves much to be desired. It should be a good TV after June 2009 when the country goes all Digital. With Analog I don't recommend it.

Question : Will someone help me hook my PC up to my Sharp LCD tv?
I bought a vga to s-video cable on Amazon and also an extension wire.Whenever I hook them up I can only see black and white streaks on the TV,and when I move the mouse a small line moves.(LC-20AV7U)is the tv's code. Please Help!!!
Answer:
After you have the cables hooked up properly, you need to go into your display settings and see if you need to change settings there. When I hook my laptop up to my tv I have to go to my display settings and change a few things. I don't know your settings because all video cards and tv's are different. Just right click on your desktop and go to properties then display settings. Im sure you will find what you need to do there. Hope this helps

Hmm, orangish and RED...that sounds like EXCESSIVE color saturation to me....Turn down the color control, make sure your TINT is right down the middle, the brightness is MID-WAY and your PICTURE / CONTRAST is set to MAXIMUM....Now look at the picture.....Do you think it looks normal or not ?Are you looking at LOW DEF or Hi DEF?Look at Hi Def....Now if you are STILL unsure about the picture, there's always BLACK AND WHITE TV SHOWS to verify PROPER Registration.Black and White has a VERY DISTINCT blending or Red , Green and Blue that creates a very GRAY gray...not Red/Gray or Green/Gray.That's why it's PERFECT to use for initial verification of whether a TV is properly white-balanced or not....If you turn off the color, and you go to say...Nickolodeon, and you find Mc Hale's Navy or The Dick Van Dyke show or one of the 60's shows that was recorded, then you found the PUREST Black and White that you can trust for this test...I Love Lucy, Gilligan's Island (only the B/W ones!) are the ones to use too. It's gotta be gray...If it's not, swap out your TV quickly before the EXCHANGE timetable expires !

Question : Sharp LCD tv full screen?
Added a dvr to my Sharp tv and all channels are HD format. 3 in. black screen on both sides. Time Warner says the dvr box is not to blame, view mode on tv remote has 4 options, all with small picture. How can i get full screen on non HD channels?
Answer:
look for a picture control that says: "picture size" or "aspect ratio" on both your TV AND your DVR

Question : Do you see different brightness bands on your Sharp Aquos LCD TV?
I am reading reports of "banding" on Sharp Aquos LCD TVs. I want to know if any of you noticed it on your TV.
Answer:
Many people have found "banding" on Sharp Aquos TVs. It has been a topic of discussion on the AVS forum for some time, but it has died down. Apparently some sets are ok, but many are not. If you can look at the TV before it is delivered, you can check for banding by looking at picture with large uniform areas of a light blue color. If you can see it, ask for another set. If you can get a set without banding, reports are that this set has the best HD picture around.Seehttp://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10506896#post10506896andhttp://www.avsforu m.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10400759#post10400759Don't try to read all, but scan through some of the later comments to see what some people have found.
