Good TV Great price
Consumer Reports magazine directed me to this TV and said Amazon had the best price for it. After much research I found they were right. Although delivery was a little sketchy (didn't have a set time and date so someone could be home) It worked out well after I found a note on my door where they tried to deliver and couldn't. I just called the carrier and they brought it right back the same day. I'm so greatful they just didn't leave it on the front porch. TV works great, no hassles, great service, no high pressure sales tactics. I will be dealing with Amazon again for some future purchaces. Thanks for a good shopping experience.

LCD HDTV
I have had this product for several months. I am pleased with the quality of the picture and the tuner. The many inputs on the tv make it easy to set up and plug in my many accessories. The sound directly from the tv is acceptable, but it is very easy to run through my receiver for great sound.

Not Worth It !!
I purchased the Bravia 46 in 2007. It only took 6 months before it started having a problem. Now it takes 5 hours to warm up, stays on for 5 hours and then goes back to Red and Black vertical lines. If you don't have a warranty, it will cost you at least a thousand dollars to have the screen replaced, because that's what it takes to repair it. If your lucky, you may get Sony to pay the cost, but not the labor, Again IF your lucky.
If you value your money look into another set.

Perfect!
I have had a year now and could not ask for more. Add the price was great from Amazon, no tax and free shipping. Delivery company was awesome. Took it up the stairs in my house and told me to keep the box just in case. Got it one week after ordering. Whole purchase was a no brainer. Now I just got my Sony Blu Ray to go with it. There is no other.......when it comes to Sony.

Want a small LCD TV that still brings a lot to the (kitchen) table? The KDL-37M4000 is Sony's answer. With three HD connections (including an HDMI™, component, and PC input), a sleek design, and the picture quality you've come to expect from Sony, the KDL-M4000/S is designed give you the performance you do want without turning your bedroom or kitchen into a second home theater you can live without.

Never Again...
I bought this TV for relatively cheap. And while I did get it for cheap, I am not impressed with the TV and would recommend others to stay away. There are some major issues with this TV that directly impact viewing pleasure.
Pros: -Decent to Good quality HD picture.
Cons: - Smaller number of inputs. Two HDMI and two component are not enough. - Audio from HDMI cuts out regularly regardless of device (Xbox 360, PS3, and hd cable box: this doesn't happen at all on our other TV) This is also important because of the lack of inputs. Because there are only 2 component inputs one of my devices HAS to be on HDMI. - Due to speaker configuration you can only hear at proper volumes if you are directly in front of the TV. If you sit off to the side audio is much quieter. - Terrible color banding, especially in SD programming. But it is not limited to SD, it even occurs in high def content. - Generally bad picture for any SD content, where as my Samsung LCD displays SD content much cleaner. - Advanced Contrast Enhancement: Worst "feature" to ever be included in a television. Depending on how dark the picture is on screen, the TV will automatically dim the backlight. It is not a gradual dimming and makes dark scenes almost impossible to see. Speaking to a Sony tech support rep, it can not be turned off on this model.
This TV alone has essentially turned me off to any Sony television ever again. Some people may not have these issues, or even notice them (color banding, ACE) but to me they are a major annoyance.

Purchased from a friend
I have always relied on the Sony name for the quality of their products. I replaced my CRT television with this model from a friend who bought it when it came out for a guest bedroom and it did not get used much at all.
I was baffled with the pixellation of the display quaility at first. I do not have cable/satellite but the HD broadcast quaility is great even with regular "bunny ears." Some broadcast channels are still broadcasting in analogue quality display so there was a BIG difference with picture quality between those stations and HD ones. I have read that a good quaility antenna can provide a better picture quality and more channel options - a future upgrade soon.
I use Roku to play Netflix and Pandora and the pixellation issue was the same until I change the box setting to HD (and used an HDMI cable) from the CRT standard, and the graphics are very sharp, I hope Netflix will start offering HD videos soon!

Disappointed
I purchased this elsewhere for $600. At the time you couldn't get a 37" LCD for that price. I trusted the Sony name based on my own personal experience with a variety of their products, but I am very disappointed with this set. The image quality is sub-par. As many of the other reviews state, it looks like a pixelated mess. Fortunately this is a secondary TV that is in the bedroom, and viewed from enough of a distance that its watchable. I would not recommend this set.

Excellent
I bought this TV in October 2008.It was shipped to me, in south Florida, from California and out of the box the picture and sound were great. I have Dish Network HD service and the receiver to the TV connection is HDMI.I also have a VCR\DVD combo unit connected using component cables. I have the Sony 32S3000 which is now 20 months old and I calibrated it using AVIA II.So,I used those values for the 37M initially, and after about six weeks of use I calibrated it using AVIA.The value differences were very slight. I have a feeling the negative reviews are based on initial impressions and maybe there is a bad connection or an incorrect connection. The Sony manual is very informative. Also, set your receiver to the native resolution of the TV, which is 720P.I also have the sound set to PCM ONLY and the RF MODE on the Dish receiver. This prevents the sound levels from fluctuating in two channel stereo. I think this TV, as well as my other Sony, are fantastic.I definitly recommend.

I just love this TV - this replaced a 32 Trinatron that was 8 years old. It was easy to setup and the picture quality is great. It works with all of my devices and was easy to hook up to my stereo.

sony can only give me another refurbished TV. I was disappointed. I was going to get another Sony LCD TV at smaller size since Sony is such a trusted brand. now switching to Samsung. Hope theirs is better.

from the description of the product. The TV is more than a TV, it is also a large screen monitor for my computer. The picture quality is high in HD, and is good in standard digital. The TV also has many other capabilities with picture and sound. I highly recommend it.

Good till it died
Bought this TV in November 07. Worked fine until it developed backlight problems after just two years and it had to be repaired. Sony said that the panel had to be switched out. They sent a panel but it was not the right one (right box, wrong panel, very puzzling). They sent the right panel two weeks later. Unfortunately the replacement panel is not working properly because I'm getting blurry picture caused by uneven backlighting. This happens when the TV set is initially turned on. Its almost like a fluorescent bulb which flickers and lights up after it gets hot. Except it takes anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes for the TV picture to become normal. Very disconcerting. I was such a Sony fan until I bought this lemon. Thankfully the TV is under 4 year warranty with Best Buy and they will be coming again to either fix or replace the TV. In fairness to Sony though the TV (when it worked) had very good picture quality with vivid color especially hooked up to a Sony blue ray player. The speakers are ok but not surround sound quality. I got the Sony home theater to enhance the audio. The audio works great with the blu ray and other components but not with my cable TV box. The TV tech folks tell me that KDL TV models seem to be having sync problems with digital cable and sat boxes in my area. The audio keeps cutting out when you switch the audio to your home theater speakers. The audio is fine though through the TV speakers.
Bottom line with this TV though is that it seems to have backlight issues and I can only hope that Sony has taken care of this in later models. My next TV though will probably not be Sony.

Great for 3 years until it died.
I've had this TV for three years. I don't have any complaints about it. One day, it simply quit working. I called the extended warranty company, they came out, said the entire panel needs to be replaced. Now they're going to buy me out so I can buy another TV.
Very disappointing that this TV only lasted three years. I'm glad I bought the extended warranty. I normally don't buy them but back in 2007, Consumer Reports said the life of LCD's was unknown and that they are very expensive to repair. So I spent the money for one. Now I'm glad I did.
All I can say, is that this TV was perfect until it died. I was very happy with it. Mine was in a very bright room and there was no loss of color on the TV. I had lots of sunlight coming in and the picture quality was the same no matter how bright the room was. I also like that this TV does not have a piano finish. I did not want reflection off of the sides of the TV's due to all the sunlight and reflection that our family room has.

It's nice but it won''t last long!
We purchased this tv new at Circuit City in April of 2007. In May of 2010, we started having problems with the screen display. After over $500 in repair attempts it's been diagnosed as a COMMON problem with this tv and it's the LCD screen...which costs $3000 for the parts and $300 for labor. We've found that Sony is aware of the problem but has not issued a resolution for a reasonable repair.

Good while it lasted!
you wouldn't expect a bad TV from SONY because of their history, heck I had a Sony tv my whole life and none of them every broke down on me.
but only after 2 years, this TV started developing those infamous ghost lines. After reading up on discussion boards, i realized that this was a very very common problem and was actually noticed by Sony so they had a recall.
the thing is, Sony's recall had an expiration date and ended become my tv started to act up. i actually called them and they said i have to pay for the repairs. repairs that are not my fault, that are a defect by Sony.
this is the last time i will ever buy a Sony TV.

Not what I expected from a $2,400 TV, especially a branded name
Bought my KDL52W3000 from Sears on one of their sales in November 2007. $2,400 out the door seem like a pretty good deal on this TV. It worked beautifully for about 14 months until it started to develop horizontal lines on the right side of the screen creating a ghosting image. If I turn it off for a while, the picture comes back to normal. But eventually, the problem comes back. I didn't get extended warranty cause didn't imagine that such a TV could go so bad so soon. Pixel problems seems common for this TV based on the reviews. I've been a big fan of Sony products especially of their tube TVs. Not any more. I'm regretting not picking up the Samsung next to it. My sister took a Samsung at the time and the picture seem more alive. I didn't get the Samsung because it had a glossy screen which can be bad when viewing in front of windows and such. But the glossy screen makes the contrast and black level so much better. No more Sonys for me unless it's 50% off or better cause that's what I feel is worth. If you're shopping for a TV, picture quality is important, but reliability is just as important because it can be very frustrating to see your money on the curb.

Can we use this DM port to connect USB pen drives to play MP3 nad photos stored in it?Applies to Sony LCD TV V400 & W400 series.

Question : which is the best LCD TV Sony or Samsung?
I need to know, which is the best LCD TV Sony or Samsung?I want to buy 46" LCD TV, and the offers for both sony and samsung is good, and I have no idea about the quality of samsung's tv. and is there any information or websites that show benchmark or LCD tv tests.
Answer:
CNET has good reviews: http://reviews.cnet.com/best-high-definition-tvs/Having said that, nothing beats the naked eye. This is purely an individual preference. I can tell you my experience: I bought a 46" Samsung because the Best Buy worker was pushing it. He told me that he has one, and he likes it better than the Sony. So, I bit. Got it home, set it up, and it looked nice. However, the net morning, when I opened the blinds, it became a giant reflective mirror. The piano gloss finish reflected sunlight and the screen itself is very reflective. You won't see these issues in any professional performance review. I couldn't stand it. Took it back and bought a Sony Bravia XBR4, and wow... the difference was indescribable. The screen is a floating glass design that does not reflect light, which is nice. The frame is also non reflective. The icing on the cake, however, was the picture quality. To my eyes, Sony destroys Samsung. No competition. The best LCD television on the market is the Sony XBR series. Right now, I think it's up to XBR9, but I heard the XBR8 uses LED backlighting, so that might be a great buy.

Question : How much would it cost to repair the LCD panel for a Sony LCD TV?
The bottom right hand corner of my Sony LCD TV (Bravia) cracked suddenly while I was watching TV. The display was distorted from the bottom right hand corner to the top. Actually I wonder if this could be repaired afterall.
Answer:
Warning: This is a warning you are not gonna get from the dealers or the manufactures. LCDs have very fragile, very breakable PLASTIC screens. Screens because there are two. The "inner" screen of my 7 mos. old Sony Bravia 42" is broken. Broken by a 34 lb., 3year old throwing an empty plastic cup. The screens are plastic because they can be and it prevents the screen from being reflective. It also makes them CHEAPER to make. No warranty, no repair. If you have children or children visit, do not buy LCDs.I believe mine was defective and an impact that should not have broken it did break it. Try proving THAT! But why did the inner screen break instead of the outer?Sony would have none of that and that really thrilled Best Buy.Sony quoting $2300 to fix a TV I bought for $2000. I believe you. I believe that they are subject to break easier than normal but we cannot prove it.I went and bougth a plasma yesterday.

Question : Why does the screen on my Sony LCD rear projection TV flicker?
Sometimes the screen on my Sony LCD rear projection TV will flicker. It won't go off or anything and it's mostly around the edges but it's pretty annoying. We called Sony and I don't think they knew what they were talking about. They said something about leaving the TV on the same channel for a few hours and that should take care of it. That doesn't do anything at all. It seems to be happening more and more now. We are thinking it could mean that we need to change the bulb. Is that a possibility? Thanks!
Answer:
Flicker around the edges? High possibility it being the bulb, if you had it for 1.5-3 years with out replacing it then it could very well be that. Also AC lines can cause a flicker at a certian frequency.

Question : why is my brand new Sony color LCD TV in black & White?
I just purchased a new Sony TV and after connecting to my digital cable box i turned it on and its in Black & White..does anyone know why? or how i can fix the problem?
Answer:
What is the connection you are using to hook up the cable box? If you are using the 5 RCA type connections, then make sure that you select "composite" not "component" in the TV menu for that input. You maybe would want to hook up a HDMI cable instead.
