Sony’s S-series TVs put amazing picture quality and stunning dynamic contrast in reach for value-oriented consumers who want to step up into the Sony Full HD 1080p experience. These TVs represent the entry-level models in Sony’s large screen offerings in 2009 and offer the superior resolution and contrast, advanced image processing features, and variety of HD input options available on high-end BRAVIA HDTVs -- all in an affordable package. With three HDMI connections, you can hook up a Sony PlayStation3 entertainment system, Blu-ray Disc player, or any other HDMI-capable equipment and get uncompressed digital video and multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. You also have numerous other HD connection options, including YPbPr Component inputs as well as a PC input for using your laptop or desktop PC with your big-screen HDTV. No matter which HD source you use, the exclusive Sony BRAVIA Engine 2 fully digital video processor ensures that images look sharp and brilliant. With BRAVIA Link compatibility, you can easily expand your high-resolution home theatre set-up with optional BRAVIA Wireless Link, BRAVIA DVD Link, or BRAVIA Input Link Modules. And BRAVIA Sync makes controlling everything a snap. Additionally, BRAVIA S-Series HDTVs exceed Energy Star 3.0 requirements by incorporating advanced power saving features such as Light Sensor technology that adjusts backlight intensity based on ambient room lighting conditions and Dynamic Backlight Control that adjusts backlight intensity based on the brightness of the image on the screen. Utilizing these features can reduce power consumption by up to 60% in a typical home theater environment.

Best TV I've Ever Purchased
Ok, I'll make this short and sweet. At least I'll try to. Here: find the positive reviews, and listen to them. Ignore the negative reviews. Still want to hear more? Fine. I warned you.
I worked for Sony for a few years, and if it wasn't for their inflated pricing, everything in my house would have a Sony logo on it. Then this TV came along. Here's a not-so-secret suggestion: Purchase a Sony TV around Super Bowl time- you'll combine retailer's Super Bowl sales with the timing of old models clearing out. Seriously, you want to pay $300-600 more to have a 2010 vs a 2009 TV? I want your paycheck.
I worried a bit about it only being 60 Hz for as large as it is, thinking the size would magnify any ghosting or lag. Negative- maybe if I was watching a SD signal over rabbit ears. Hooked this beauty up to an HD satellite signal, and have been watching the NBA All-Star stuff, and fast-paced Olympic events with ZERO lag or ghosting. Sweet.
A couple people commented on viewing angle? Puhleeze. It's awesome.
Ok, news flash: the sound isn't stellar...but it's not really better or worse than other LCD TVs I've owned. And who cares? I have everything hooked up to my receiver. I'm not about to own a 52" TV and not take advantage of the home theater experience.
I didn't think I'd like 2 of the HDMI connections on the side, but I'll admit it's a heck of a lot easier connecting everything when it's mounted on the wall. (Hint: use a Cheetah Mounts APTMM2B Tilt Wall Mount for 32"-55" Plasma and LCD TVs and Displays, it was a great deal).
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised to see the Sony among the least expensive in that size range. Ok, so I got a killer deal, but still! With as nice as this LCD is, it's hard to imagine it being the 'bottom' range of their lineup. It's a Sony TV. Enough said.

Great Price & Picture!
Purchased this for $1050 Jan. 2010 and have no complaints. Great picture, good sound, all around easy set up. I was concerned about motion blur as this is not 120hz or more, but no one at our Superbowl party could see any motion issues. The price has dropped so much (was $1800 in June) it's a steal. No problems with viewing angles, and we had a packed rooms for superbowl. This 52" is in our FR and provides a good view from all seats. We have 2 96" sofas and a swivel chair all ranging from 9-11 feet away from the screen, placed in a U configuration. Check it out in-store if you are not certain, bet you'll buy one!

Very Hard To Beat
I have had this TV for a number of weeks now. At first I was intimidated by its size and surprised at how small the manuel is for it. Although I was able to set it up physically, electrically and internally quite easily, I still found it somewhat confusing at times in reference to the internal adjustments (the ones needed for my individual needs and preferences). These adjustments were not always clear nor even defined as to what would happen if I did this or that. But in the long run all came out in the end without to much difficulty. Also, one must be careful when setting it up to keep the screen away from anything that can cause glare or be ready to put curtains up [as I ended up doing :-)].
The picture quality of this TV is absolutly stunning. There are multiple choices of screen size and resolution inputs. Colors are sharp, well defined, clear.
I was totally shocked by the quality of sound from this set. I have a Sony Home Theatre System to go with this TV [I like the Bravia Link feature}, but I naturally tried just the TV speakers. There is a simulated surround sound option that is resonably affective. Although it doesn't have the completeness of a home theatre system, but it still has an impressive enough effect on ones audio senses so that one may consider forgoing the entire home theatre system.
The remote control was initually intimitating, too, with its miriad of buttons. But with a little practice I found navigation rather straight forward.
I did a lot of research, over a year, before deciding on this set. I was still leary when I purchased it. But after these few weeks of ownership I feel I made a great purchase. I don't think one can go wrong with this set. It is hard to beat especially for the price. I paid less than $1000.00 which included the shipping.

Sony TV
This is a great product and simple to use. It comes ready to go and easy to setup. If you have a home theater system it wouldn't be bad to install also because the volume is not that loud. Overall, I am pleased with Sony and Amazon again.

Great TV and Great Value
I have had this TV for 5 months now and I am thoroughly impressed.
I have my TV hooked up with a cheaper HDMI and the picture quality is great. I upgraded my surround sound to Sony's HT SS360 Bravia Home Theater system. I strongly recommend buying products with Sony's Bravia Sync feature. This enables you to sync all devices and make controlling the system a snap.
This TV is great for HD viewing and Blue-Ray movies. There is even a VGA connection that you can connect to your PC or Laptop.
This TV has plenty of inputs for your game consoles and other devices.

Great deal for a power saving tv
This tv is great, according to sony, it uses less power than a 65 watt light bulb. The user interface has a very clean look to it, and I have been surprised at how well the ambient light sensor works adjusting the backlighting on the tv. It's a very clean and modern look, and works well. There are two things that bother me. The first is that it has something called dynamic contrast ratio, I have this hooked up to my computer so when I have a video in a small window and the rest of the screen is white, the video looks almost blacked out so I have to watch all videos full screen. Second, I wanted to use the bravia sync feature, and can't figure out how to get it to work, there is very little documentation on it at all. I think I may need a different HDMI cable... not sure.
Other than those two things this TV is awesome. My eyes thanked me for getting it to have such vivid colors and high quality picture...

Huge power consumption savings, great picture quality, great value.
I've had this TV for over three months now. Previous to purchasing this set I waited and shopped for over a year looking for the right TV at the right price. I run my place off solar power, with every watt I use of power making a difference, so I had been looking forward to this model since it was announced early in 2009 due to it's low power consumption. In this regard, it has not disappointed. For all LCD TV's, power consumption varies highly depending on how high you turn up the backlight. I use it almost solely for movies, which look great with the backlight at the lowest setting or up only 1 or 2 clicks ("Cinema" setting is nice). At lowest backlighting this TV uses only about 80watts of power (measured with my handy Kill-A-Watt meter). Upping the backlight to 2 increases it to about 90watts. (For those interested, if I turn it all the way up it goes up to about 145watts. But I never want it anywhere near this bright.) The TV running together with my Sony Bluray player uses a total of 96 watts when playing a Bluray movie. This is fantastic. By comparison, my previous TV, a couple year old high quality _32"_ Sharp model (also 1080p, and one of the more energy efficient models of its time), used nearly as much power as this 40" model. A new standard (non-"Eco") Sony 40" or a Samsung or other brand uses at least 125watts with the backlight turned down. With the backlight up other normal models use well over 200watts. So this model has a real world 40% power consumption savings compared to a typical 40" set. This is fantastic, and every bit as good as I had hoped.
Also if you're considering a bigger 46 or 52" set, the power consumption of this EV model in those bigger sizes actually scales better relative to normal LCD's (not to mention plasmas) also. Meaning as you go up in size, you actually get a higher percentage increase in power consumption savings. So for example, the 46" EV uses only about 20 watts more power than this 40", compared to an increase of about 60 or more watts in a standard V-series or other brand LCD for the same increase in size.
Power consumption: 5/5 stars.
As to the picture quality, it is every bit as good as I expected for an LCD set. Even the blacks on this set are a huge improvement over my previous 2 year old Sharp 32" LCD. They even seem slightly better (darker) than my brother's one year old 52" Sony V-series (52V4100). Of course the black levels aren't going to be as perfect as my friend's new 50" plasma, due to the inherent flaws in LCD technology, but they are as good as any LCD I've seen, and I'm happy with that. I am sourcing almost solely Bluray, so the quality is top notch. I can not comment on how SD television looks as I've never used it, and don't really understand why anyone would want to buy an expensive HDTV like this primarily for SD content. DVD's through the Bluray player upscaling, look surprisingly good. Though nowhere near as stunning as Bluray, definitely better than standard DVD quality. In every other way the picture quality is fantastic, with one exception: There is a very slight "bleed in" of light on the upper left and right corners. I guess this might be that notorious problem I've heard about with Sony's. As someone who is meticulous on details, I did notice it right away when I first turned on the set. However, it is only noticeable when the background is black, for example during movie end credits, and as I said, it is very slight. If it were more than very slight, I definitely would have returned or exchanged the set immediately, but it's a tiny negative to an otherwise outstanding LCD picture quality.
Picture quality: 4/5 stars.
Sound quality, despite all the bad reviews I see here, is above average for built in sound on a flat panel. In fact, it's far and away above most other HDTV's I tested, particularly Samsung models, which seem to almost intentionally have unusable built in sound. It is also much better than my previous Sharp model, which incidentally still had much better sound than than the Samsung models I tested. I carefully tested the sound on some higher end Sony models as well (last year's Z and XBR) and found the sound quality on this to be comparable. The real test however, is will the built in sound be acceptable, "good enough", when actually watching a movie. It passes this test. It seems to depend a lot on the source or the actual specific disc, as sometimes having the sound at under half volume is fine, while another movie will require it to be nearly all the way up, but overall I find the built in speakers surprisingly usable. As to the vibration noise issue reported by many here, I do notice some vibration noise when the bass is loud and the volume is turned up high, on occasion, but not so much as to be a glaring problem. Maybe others here got defective speakers. In conclusion, the sound is as good as any flat panel set I've used yet (better than 50" Panasonic Plasma, better than most other LCD's, about equal to high end LCD's). Especially if you're using the TV mainly for sports and TV, the built in sound is good. That said, as would be the case with any HDTV today, I will probably be adding a good quality sound bar or surround system in the future, to get more of a theater-like movie experience.
Sound quality: 4/5 stars.
Overall I'm very satisfied with this set. I felt compelled to put in my two cents after reading the several negative reviews here. Many of the negatives seem to either be due to bad speakers, or some unrealistic expectation with regard to SD (Standard Definition) picture quality, etc. I'm glad I bought it before reading all the bad speakers reviews, as those reviews might have stopped me from buying it. Few people seem interested in this TV's main draw which makes it worth the slight premium over Sony's regular V-series set: Low power consumption. In this regard it is so far and away above the rest that I'm tempted to give the set 5 stars overall. The only reason I'm not is because of the very slight light bleed in at the top corners, for which I refuse to give Sony the "perfect" 5 stars.
Lastly, when you consider that the price of this has come down so much now as we head into 2010 with new models on the horizon, I think right now is the sweet spot in terms of the value you get with this set, if you're looking for a good quality TV with low power consumption.
Overall: 4/5 stars.

MY WIFE HATES IT, BUT I LOVE IT: ITS JUST THE BEGINNING.
I just got my KDL40-VE5 Sony Bravia, I kicks %#@#$... The picture is so clear it almost looks 3-D. Sound is perfect in the bedroom, in Dynamic setting is as good as the surround sound system in stereo setting(Yes you have to turn it up half way, but anything after that the house shakes not the speakers[Sony must have fixed the problem]). 100, 000:1 contrast means your old " View Master Viewer" is now in 40".
My 2years old genius daughter Has been trying to obtain products and items from the T.V. I'm happy my wall mount got here so I could get my 120 hz off the level of my little princess. I have a cable hd connection, and ps3 250g. Everything on HDMI connections. This may be what makes the difference???
My Wife however, does not like my Bravia. Mainly because my old westinghouse 47" 1080P, 60 hz, which only had 8000:1 contract. Just looks like a dinosaur now. The westinghouse does have a feature they called 1080Pure which give it a very good picture. I never thought someone else lcd looked better. In fact a few friends bought the same tv after seeing mine. Sorry guys... HA, HA.
The Eco Bravia has brought the future to my house. Now I'm shooting for 240hz, 1440p, 1,000,000:1.... don't look back guys, the future is waiting.

Being that it's a new TV I was expecting much more in terms of picture quality. It doesn't even comr close to my 32 inch vizio that J brought like 3 years ago. But if u always fall asleep watching tv yet u wanna save money it's perfect. Especially since I havnt seen any other tv with that feature. That's the only reason I brought it bc my son keeps the tv on every night and raises the con Ed bill. If u don't need the energy saving sensor than don't waste your time on this tv

This is a terrible model, upgrade your choice to z series or XBR
We purchased this model from Sears. In less than 12 hours we decided to return the unit. First problem was the sound. The left speaker vibrates before you even put the volume up to half. Second problem was the constant color changing and image tracking. It was like the TV was stuck in a loop trying to find the correct resolution and color contrast. Colors were constantly changing during a news cast on the same person. Very unstable. We were VERY disappointed.
We returned the unit and the people at Sears told us that over 90% of the lesser models of Sony LCD's are returned and that the store is deciding whether or not to continue carrying the lesser models.
The good news is that we purchased the Z5100 40 inch from Amazon. The price was great! The TV seems to have been made by a different group within Sony. The picture is fantastic, the sound is awesome. The progressive scanning works well and the contrast and colors are dynamic. And as always, Amazon is a great company to deal with. Ordered on a Sunday afternoon and it was delivered on Wednesday at noon. The delivery company was great and even warned us that we should let it sit for at least an hour as it had been in temps below 50. Important when dealing with LCD's.
We are so happy with the new TV. The 240Hz makes a world of difference, as does the 10 bit processing. The overall size and sleeker design of the case is also much, much better. The image tracking is superb, color is awesome.

Questions & Answers
Question : My Sony LCD TV just displays solid pink after a brief power interruption. Any ideas?
I still get audio for every channel AND the TV displays menus and channel identifications, just not the actual video from the channels themselves. Furthermore, I’ve tested with another television and confirmed that this is not a cable line issue (everything works fine on the other TV).Anything you know will be very much appreciated!Oh, it’s a Sony MFM-HT205 if that helps.
Answer:
I would try unplugging the tv for about 5 minutes and let it reset to the factory default and plug it back in. If it is still the same. Try calling or emailing Sony. They will probably just tell you to take it to an authorized repair facility to be checked out. There customer service support center is not very helpful most of the time. You might have to replace your tv, due to the price of labor being so expensive nowadays. Hope this will help you out.

Question : I have a large screen Sony LCD tv. For about 3 weeks now I have noticed a blue color across the bottom?
The rest of the tv is perfect..does anyone know whats about to happen?
Answer:
I have no idea what the blue color is, but I'd call whom ever you bought it from and insist on either service or you are bringing/sending the TV back (assuming you purchased from an authorized Sony dealer).

Question : What do you think about the Sony Bravia LCD TV range?
In particular the W series? Im thinking of buying the Sony Bravia KLD -40W2000. I read amazing reviews on it but after having gone to see it in a shop, some of the assistants told me it was overrated, and overly-priced. I looked pretty good though. If you have considered this tv yourself or even have one please let me know what you think. I need a final push before making this investment.Thanks.
Answer:
Frankly I have learned not to pay much attention to the people in the store, they are usually not qualified to help you purchase batteries for your remote control let alone give you a recommendation on your TV. I took a quick look around and this model seems to be getting really good reviews, so I would say go for it.

Question : I have a 32 inch sony lcd tv, would a blu-ray be good for this size screen?
I want to get a blu ray player, but my tv is only 32 inches, its a lcd sony, would this be a good tv with a blu ray player? Its a 720p tv
Answer:
The question I have for you is, what is the resolution of the TV? 32 inches is a pretty good sized TV, and if the TV was capable of a high resolution (1080p would be the ideal) then Blu-Ray would look very nice on it. Another thing to think of is, what kind of audio system you have, since Blu-Ray has some incredible audio. If you have a nice surround-sound system, and a TV with a good resolution, then I think it would be well worth it. I have a 42" tv with Blu-ray and I absolutly love it, will never buy a standard DVD again.Just read that it is a 720p...at that resolution, it will certainly be nice, just not as nice as the 1080p. keep in mind, when you see a Blu-Ray display at a store, they are using a top of the line TV at 1080p. I would suggest that if you truly want to buy one, go to a retailer who has a forgiving return policy....buy it, try it, and if you aren't completly happy with it, return it. Also, keep in mind some scientists believe that we can't truly see the difference between 720p and 1080p. Hope this helps...good luck and if you buy it...enjoy!!!

Question : Is it safe to download a movie torrent and watch it on my Sony Bravia LCD Tv using a Sony pen drive?
The manual says it is possible, provided I use a pen drive as mentioned in the list of compatible pen drives for my tv model. But, I was just wondering since torrent files are nothing but pirated, so would my tv face any problems because of that? I know that sony equipments are pretty sensitive.
Answer:
Yes, he's right. They may be invalid format issues with the video file so you cant hear sound/see video, but there is no way it is going to harm your tv. Your tv cant tell if the avi content is pirated or not.
