Tv screen plastic cover causing reflections.
The Sony was the best tv not only because of the picture quality but also because it had no reflection in enviroments with a lots of light. Since the LCD Panels are now made by Samsung they start placing plastic screens in front of the LCD and now if you want to watch this tv in a very lighted environment you will see all the worst reflections in the screen. you will see your face and the lights or windows behind you like you are looking in a mirror. It is terrible!!!!. Unless you have a dark screening room DONT BUY THESE NEW SONY TELEVISIONS YOU WILL BE SORRY.

GREAT TV !!!
I love this TV. It is huge,I have only seen 55 inch TV's before, the extra 5 inches makes a bigger difference than I would have thought. It was very easy to mount on my Z-line TV stand. The screws and washers you need for the brackets are already on the back of the TV. Setting up the TV takes only 5 or 10 minutes, and most of that is automatic. It works great with my computer. All you to have do is use a HDMI cable from your computer to HDMI port #4,then get the remote, hit input and go to HDMI 4. At first, your computer input will not fill up the whole screen, find the wide button on your remote,go to zoom. Movies and tv shows look very good on this tv. BUY THIS TV!!!

As Expected
This t.v. is set on my wall in a large sized room that makes it look mid-sized. Several others have commented on how great it looks. Blu ray movies are fantastic on it. I haven't had it hooked up to the internet yet, but I'm hoping that it is a fun aspect to play around with. So far, my family and I love it!

Sony KDL60EX700 LCD/LED HDTV
It seems that the Amazon price increased since I purchased my TV. I paid 2,384.91 on 07/29/2010 but not through Amazon. I decided to go to my local Best Buy store versus doing an online purchase. Best Buy was able to come down over $300 and meet the Amazon price, but they had to order the TV and it took a week to get it in. I also purchased the extended warranty with Geek Squad support which is a percentage of the TV's cost. Thus, I paid less for the warranty by having Best Buy meet the Amazon price.
I sit 14 feet away from the TV. The 60 inch screen seems to be a good size and I wouldn't want anything smaller. My former TV was a 65 inch 9 1/2 year old Sony rear projection behemoth, but it never required any maintenance. However, the picture quality on this new 60 inch LCD/LED is much better... it's really great. I watched the noon news today and was amazed at the poor makeup job of one of the news anchors. Recently, on a trip, I was able to watch about 5 hours of programs on a new 110 inch Epson HD projection TV. The Epson was really nice, however (IMO), the picture quality of this Sony 60 inch LCD/LED is Slightly better. I was also able to watch a golf game and some other sports on three new Samsung 37 inch LCD/LED TVs. All three of the 37" Samsung TVs had perfect pictures (really amazing), and I will have to admit that the picture quality seemed Sharper on these 37" Samsungs than my new 60 inch Sony. Then again, I would think that a 37" LCD/LED would be better than any 55" or 60" LCD/LED and, especially, better than any 110 or 120" HD projection TV.
The speakers on this 60" Sony sound fine but I have to crank up the volume on them... they're a little weak, but what can you expect on a TV that is so thin and weights only 60 pounds. However, I hooked up my old Bose Lifestyle 50 System to the TV and it sounds great. BTW- I bought a new PS3 blu ray to replace my old DVD player as well.

4 STARS FOR NOW, and I hope it stays that way
I'll start this review now but maybe update it in future months, as I've noticed that the real test of any HDTV is how well it performs after it's a year old. As it is, we've had our NX700 for two months now, and I'm very pleased.
Some other reviewers can probably judge picture quality better than I can, and that's fine. I researched enough to know that this Sony model generally gets high marks for its picture. Someday I'm going to try out some picture adjustments I found during my research - but for now, it's still on its factory settings, and we all agree that it looks great for the kind of viewing we do.
What made me pick this TV, and the reason I'm glad I did, are its capabilities for component connections and internet features, particularly how well it does wirelessly. This is our bedroom TV, a place where we want to minimize external components, wires, generally all A/V clutter other than this wall-mounted HDTV. So the more it can do on its own, the better.
I consider the following features of the NX700 most important. And I couldn't find another HDTV in this price range that had everything below, besides other Sony models.
1) Analog audio out. Why is this so rare? The NX700 also has an optical digital audio output, but often the easiest way to bypass the tinny internal speakers (and all thin HDTV's have tinny speakers, not just this one) is to run its audio through anything you have nearby - a set of computer speakers, boombox, whatever. It shouldn't be a requirement to have a dedicated audio system near every TV in your house, you know?
2) PC (VGA) input. Most HDTV's have these but some do not (like most Panasonics). The NX700 also puts an separate analog audio input jack right near this input for convenience. And it all works well, we've used it few times already.
3) Wireless internet, and applets for NetFlix, Amazon VOD, YouTube, Pandora, Slacker (and a bunch of others that we probably won't use much if at all). Actually, this is the most meaningful feature of this TV for us right now, because we didn't know what to expect from wireless streaming in a location that gets a somewhat weak signal from the router. On the contrary, this TV does just fine - we've been streaming Amazon VOD regularly now, and even took a chance on streaming HD movies. With those, we did have one instance where the movie stopped and restarted a bit due to a weak signal, but it was only for a few minutes, and then it was fine. I think streaming HD in wireless with current technology is going to be dicey at best, but considering our not-perfect router signal, I was impressed with what it could do regardless.
4) DLNA capabilities. I never set up a computer to be a DLNA server before, but I found the instructions online and did it in 20 minutes. It really was that easy. After that, the TV was immediately able to play my music and view some pictures, just the ones I had enabled DLNA access to. Now I have to spend some time figuring out how I want to use this feature, since I never expected it to work so easily.
5) Other connections. We need a combination of HDMI, Composite and Component video inputs for our living room TV, and this TV was initially set up there. The NX700 has 4 HDMI inputs, including one apparently for PC-HDMI (why would that be any different?), and we're using two, plus the Composite and Component inputs. Other TV's do have more inputs, or the same, but some have less - and that would be a deal-breaker for our living room TV. As it is, everything we needed to plug into this Sony got plugged in and worked. No unplugging over and over, so no hassles switching between sources.
6) Built-in QAM tuner. All things told, this didn't work out to be a big deal after all. We'll probably always use our cable box, but it's nice to know there's an alternative if the need arises.
I considered and compared HDTV's in 37-to-42-inch sizes from Sony, Samsung, Panasonic and Toshiba. Sony had the only ones with every feature we needed. Also important is that it looks good off or on, and has some features you don't really notice, like automatically adjusting the brightness based on the room's current lighting. Again, I'll hold off skywriting its praises until after it's lasted for a few years but for the moment, I'm very happy we picked this HDTV.

Snap...Crackle....Pop
PROS:
Rich blacks and whites.
CONS:
For the first HOUR you turn your set on it makes snap, crackle and pop noises as the components adjust to warming up. AND it does it for an hour after you turn it off!! Its insane. Clearly they were in such a rush to come up with make a super thin screen that they forgot to properly test it.
Also the speaker set-up is horrible. They are literally behind the set or facing down - which makes for terrible acoustics. You need to max the volume to get any quality sound.
Finally the edge led is far from perfected. Back-lit is still miles above.
Avoid this set until they work out the bugs!

For consumers who want an HDTV that keeps pace with fast-action movies, sports, and game play, Sony BRAVIA V-Series Flat Panel HDTVs combine Full HD 1080p performance and Motionflow 120Hz technology for an amazing viewing experience. Motionflow 120Hz takes both high-definition and standard programming a step further by increasing sharpness and detail in fast-moving images for more fluid, natural motion. In addition, BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs use proprietary Image Blur Reduction technology to further enhance the picture for even better performance. The HDTVs also feature BRAVIA Engine 2 technology, which uses exclusive Sony algorithms to reduce visual noise and sharpen and enhance an already-striking dynamic contrast ratio. Additionally, they include seven versatile HD connections to ensure you get impressive image quality from all your HD components. Take advantage of four HDMI inputs, component and composite inputs, and a PC input, as well as a USB input that lets you play audio files from USB storage devices, or connect a compatible camera to your HDTV for a quick and easy slide show. Sony knows your home theater set-up doesn't stop with your HDTV, which is why the BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs are compatible with BRAVIA Link Modules -- including the BRAVIA Wireless Link, BRAVIA DVD Link, and BRAVIA Input Link Modules (all sold separately). The HDTVs also support BRAVIA SyncTM technology so you can control all of your compatible devices with a single remote. And all BRAVIA HDTVs exceed ENERGY STAR 3.0 requirements for in-use and stand-by power consumption, meaning you don't need a lot of power to get a lot of performance.

Very Pleased
Excellent TV.CSR at Modia was very helpful.Model KDL52V5100 was not available when I ordered (Last years model) so they offered Model KDL52 EX700 instead.(This years model). My only quibble is with Sony, not the merchant.Although it is an "Internet Ready" television you have to buy their USB WIFI Adapter-and apparently ONLY theirs- for a wireless connection. An additional $80.00.Not that big a deal but a little annoying. All in all a very good product.I based my Reliability and Lifespan ratings upon previous Sony products owned, hopefully this one will do as well.

Frustrating Glitch Makes Nice TV Unreliable
I posted this as a comment under the review titled: "This TV has very serious flaws! Sony is unresponsive!" but I think the issue here needs a review of its own.
I purchased my Sony BRAVIA V-Series KDL-52V5100 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV in December, 2009. Since that date my TV has, four times, been rendered blank and totally unresponsive to any input from the remote or on-set controls except power off. A 30-minute phone call to Sony support after the first incident did not resolve the issue; I had to attempt a work-around on my own - I'll explain that later.
After the fourth occurrence I arranged for a Sony-authorized service tech to examine the set. Listen to this: he told me he'd had many similar complaints. Apparently here in San Diego a certain HD channel occasionally triggers a glitch in the Sony TV circuitry causing the TV to go blank and unresponsive. Only by tricking the TV to disengage from this particular channel can you get the TV to work again. When he explained this to me I realized my favorite channel was this particular one and my set always froze when I was watching a program on that channel.
The service tech checked the current firmware on my set and saw it was the latest version available. In that case, said he, there was nothing he could do. He further said that Sony is aware of this problem and is working on a fix, but he wondered how they would notify owners and deliver the fix when available.
After the service call I contacted Sony Support to ask about how I would learn of the fix when it becomes available. I was directed to Customer Relations. In a phone conversation the representative claimed Sony was NOT aware of any such situation. The only remedies forthcoming from Customer Relations were to offer either the phone numbers of 2 more authorized service centers or a promise to have another Sony advisor call me. I requested both; the rep agreed. Then I repeated my statement that I know there are many Sony customers complaining about this, and I read to him some postings from an internet forum I'd discovered. The representative then said Sony now stands informed and aware. We'll see...
Anyone, including Sony Support and Customer Relations personnel, can do a Google search and find references to this and similar issues. Personally I've posted about this and gotten response from other Sony owners. But other TV manufacturers have had similar problems with some of their models; Sony isn't alone here. LG, for example, has had this type of problem with some of its sets (do a Google search) but, unlike the initial response from my Sony Customer Relations representative, has publicly acknowledged it.
My internet research seems to indicate this glitch occurs with other Sony models as well and in other locations - not just here in San Diego. As the original reviewer says, this may be a low-end Sony, but my $1200 seems pretty high-end to me!
Work-arounds I've culled from the internet: 1. Unplug the set and walk away for a while. I once did so for 48 hours and it came right back on. 2. Turn off the TV (you can do this with the remote or the on-set control), turn it back on and immediately begin madly punching the channel up/down button so the TV switches away from the poison channel before it can freeze the TV again. 3. Turn off the TV (this is ALL you can do with the remote or on-set control at this point!), disconnect the antenna cable from the set, turn the set back on, change the (now blank) channel up or down, re-connect the cable.
Voila! You've just spent $1200 to do your own TV troubleshooting - compliments of Sony Electronics Corp.

A Solid HDTV if you Like to Tweak - FiOS users beware!!!
I received this HDTV as an Xmas gift to replace a 5 year old Sanyo tube-based HDTV that was going nutty (green tint to the picture suddenly).
Pros: * The blur motion control, Bravia Sync, and input switching are great. * The menus for calibration of the picture (if you have a THX calibration disk) are simply very easy. * Watching Blu-Ray movies or playing PS-3 games on this are awe inspiring- incredible details, rich blacks, no motion glitches. * Hooking a Nintendo Wii up to this TV via component cable was a nice surprise too in terms of picture quality and motion tracking. * So many inputs, you will be hard pressed to fill them up.
Cons: * The sound of the TV speakers requires you to have a separate receiver/speaker array system. The speakers are rather tinny sounding with no bass. * The quality of this HDTV, like most on the market, requires that you learn how to calibrate the TV to THX or another standard. Otherwise, you are not getting all the quality that the TV is capable of. * The HDMI input does not communicate well with the current Verizon FiOS Motorola HD QIP 71001 set top box. The picture flickers intermittently, goes to green screen, or goes to black depending upon the channel selected. Switching the set top box to feed this Sony using component cables solves the issue, but it is disappointing that neither Sony, Motorola, nor Verizon want to take ownership of this HDMI problem.
Overall, the picture quality of this TV blew away other 120 Hz LCD HDTV's both priced at this level & even $1,000 more. To get a better picture, if you know how to calibrate an HDTV, you would have to spend several thousand dollars more. Even then, the amount you will spend versus perceptible picture quality improvement is not really worth the bang for the buck IMHO. I would recommend this TV with the above 3 caveats.

back screw wont tighten, slow response when changing channels
Generally, I am happy with this hd lct tv. However, I am concerned that when it arrived there were 2 screws that were in the box. I discovered that the screws were for the back cover by the vacant slots. When I tried screwing them back, they won't tighten. I cant believe Sony will have loose thread on their screw slots! I only hope the unit I got is not a refurbished unit from AMAZON. Also, the response time when moving between channels is very slow. I hope Sony improves on this. I tried comparing this with SAMSUNG at the local store in our place, I was surprised at the response time of Samsung when you change channels. Audio is ok, but would be best if you set up a theatre system. Viewing pictures from the camera with a usb connection is awesome. but again, the response time when moving between pictures is very slow.

Sony Bravia xbr9
This product is everything the Manufacturer said it was. Great picture clarity, especially on HD. BluRay is even better. Very easy setup, only took about 30 minutes and the set was programed and playing. My only concern was the box it was packaged in. From where ever it came from, the packaging tape was starting to come off and the cardboard was worn away on parts of the bottom of the box affect the integrity of the cardboard container. If the packaging was in great shape when it left the warehouse, then there are some serious deficiencies in the shipping companies. If not, then maybe there are issues with the retailer. Overall though, it's a great set for what I wanted it for and a good price (at least I thought so).

Slightly dissapointed
I bought this TV set back in Nov.09 and could not install it until Dec. since I was living away from home because of work. When I finally opened the set it did not turn on, I called Sony to have it fixed. The repair man from Sony came and tried to fix it but needed to replace a circuit, waited two weeks and the part came the repair guy came again and installed it but this did not fix the problem finally thru a long troubleshooting the guy found out that the speakers were creating the problem. So he disconnected the speakers and replaced them a week later. I found out a week or two later that if I watch something on the internet the TV starts to act weird again, at this point I will not bother with it. The TV works fine otherwise, it has great picture and sound.

OMG what a wonderful TV
We researched HD TV's before making our purchase. A family member had the Sony XBR and we kept coming back to its beautiful picture quality with no motion blur.(She paid double what we paid through Amazon.) We have had our Sony XBR 46" TV for a month now and as we watch, we continue exclaiming "WHAT A PICTURE!!". My husband and I are not techie people. We just wanted a good HD TV and this one fills the bill. We also listen to music through the TV and the sound is very good. It was very easy to set up and we would recommend this TV. We are extremely satisfied.

Our Second Sony LCD to Fail
I am a big Sony fan. All my entertainment equipment is Sony, and I've always been extremely happy with their products. Naturally, when it came time to replace our old TV (which lasted us 10 years and still works to this day), we looked to Sony. We purchased a Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR4 46" in March of '08. It was a great TV... incredible set while it lasted. 13 months into ownership, we began seeing distortion horizontally across the top of the screen. First, it would only last a few minutes then gradually increased to an hour, until finally we couldn't watch anything on it anymore.
We called Sony, complaining that it was only a couple of months out of warranty. A $2,700 TV should last for longer then a year! Finally, they agreed to a 'one-time' repair... they gave us a claim number and told us to bring it to an authorized repair shop. We shelled out $100 for the diagnosis, but when Sony found out that the panel was bad and would cost $1,500 to replace, they refused to honor their promise. I had a claim number and the name of the person I spoke with, but it didn't matter. Apparently, Sony representatives don't 'represent' anything... if Sony doesn't think it's in their best interest, they'll break their promises at will. I was absolutely furious and after talking with several supervisors, I was finally connected with someone who offered us a KDL-46XBR9 as a replacement... but we had to pay over $300 to get it. Normally not a bad deal, but considering Sony initially promised that they would cover everything to get it fixed, I didn't like the idea of spending ANYTHING more on this. I finally agreed, since I had no other choice. When I went to pick the broken TV up from the repair shop, I was told by the shop owner that they had four other Sony LCDs in the shop, and all four had bad panels.
Two weeks later, in September of 2009, we had the new TV. Picture on the BR9 was noticeably smoother and sharper then the BR4. It had the same size screen as our BR4, but the overall size is smaller and it's much lighter. One thing I really liked was the Internet connection... the BR9 has widgets for a variety of online video sites, including Youtube, which brings a whole new dimension to televisions. Despite the misery of dealing with Sony, I was happy with the TV. The TV was great... until April 2010 when I starting having trouble with it only seven months into ownership. At random times, when turning the TV on after it's been off overnight, the audio would cut out, and then it would finally shut itself off. After turning it back on, everything was fine. The light on the front would flash out an error code that pointed to various problems, all seeming to center around a power supply problem. We didn't have time to deal with it at the time, but the problem went away by itself after a week, but I was still quite frustrated by the fact that we were already dealing with trouble from a SECOND Sony LCD TV.
Now, 10 months into ownership, we're getting horizontal lines flash across the TV. A brief search on the internet found that this was a common problem with Sony LCDs and that it meant that the panel was going bad. AGAIN?!?!
I will be calling Sony ASAP and I'm hoping that since we are still within warranty that things will go smoother this time, however this does not take anything away from the fact that this is our SECOND Sony LCD to die in the last year. Very disappointing for a product that costs so much, and very inconvenient. I still would buy Sony equipment, but I would NEVER buy a Sony LCD again.... never.
If you have any interest in buying a new TV and expect to use it more then a year, I cannot stress this enough: Do Not Buy a Sony. There are complaints about Sony LCD panel problems all over the Internet, and considering replacing the panels is nearly the cost of the TV itself, you might end up throwing money away. Such a shame for a TV that is actually quite impressive... when it works.

Good but not great...
overall experience with the TV is pretty good. I like the thinner profile hanging on my wall and the updated interface is a big improvement. picture is a little washed out no matter how I try to tweak it. previously had a 3/4-year old 40" XBR which had a little bit better picture...I gave it to my mother because I wanted a bigger screen. the glossy screen is nice but gets lots of glare from room lights at night. the remote is awful. Sony spent no time designing this thing to fit in the hand and there's no "pause" button for DVR/DVD function. crazy. lastly, if you have a Mac you will not get the internet functionality. too bad because I would have loved to use the Netflix capability. don't know why Sony has never made their stuff Mac-friendly, except when they were forced to make iPod accessories.

Very good TV
Its been almost 2 months since we bought our 46 inch NX 700. Its a very good TV with amazing features and amazing picture quality. Internet connection is fast, File Sharing between PC and TV is amazingly fast. Picture and sound quality is above competition.
Was thinking about whether to buy Samsung or Sony, no doubt Samsung also makes good TV but Sony makes it better. I would say Picture/sound quality is almost equal between two but Internet features are really good on Sony and it loads internet videos very fast. SO far no complains absolutely love it...
This is my first review of any product, I found it strange that there is no review for product of this quality. SO wrote one..

Questions & Answers
Question : New sony LCD tv automatically dims when a dark scene is shown?
When a visually dark part of a movie is shown, the television dims, making it hard to see the scene. How can I fix this? The model number is KDL46v5100. Thanks! When I mean dims, I mean the backlight brightness decreases, as if less power were sent to the backlight.
Answer:
It is considered a FEATURE to give you better blacks, but it could be annoying. It is called dynamic contrast or something similar. Check the User manual or the menu options if you can disable it.

Question : I have a 32 inch sony lcd tv, would a blu-ray be good for this size screen?
I want to get a blu ray player, but my tv is only 32 inches, its a lcd sony, would this be a good tv with a blu ray player? Its a 720p tv
Answer:
The question I have for you is, what is the resolution of the TV? 32 inches is a pretty good sized TV, and if the TV was capable of a high resolution (1080p would be the ideal) then Blu-Ray would look very nice on it. Another thing to think of is, what kind of audio system you have, since Blu-Ray has some incredible audio. If you have a nice surround-sound system, and a TV with a good resolution, then I think it would be well worth it. I have a 42" tv with Blu-ray and I absolutly love it, will never buy a standard DVD again.Just read that it is a 720p...at that resolution, it will certainly be nice, just not as nice as the 1080p. keep in mind, when you see a Blu-Ray display at a store, they are using a top of the line TV at 1080p. I would suggest that if you truly want to buy one, go to a retailer who has a forgiving return policy....buy it, try it, and if you aren't completly happy with it, return it. Also, keep in mind some scientists believe that we can't truly see the difference between 720p and 1080p. Hope this helps...good luck and if you buy it...enjoy!!!

Question : Sony LCD TV: what's the difference between L/M/NL series? What's BRAVIA Engine 2 Technology and 1080/60i?
Does 1080/60i mean the TV has 1080p resolution?Any difference between a Sony LCD TV with and without BRAVIA Engine 2 Technology?Where are Sony LCD TVs made? Many thanks and Merry Christmas!
Answer:
Does 1080/60i mean the TV has 1080p resolution?A:Not really, 1080/60i is Interlaced. 1080p is progressive Therefore I think it's better, you'll get a better picture. The difference between L/M/NL series?Well, the prices the different and according to what I saw on sonystyle Canada website, that they're pretty low in the Series. I don't think they're such great TV's. If you're going to get a BRAVIA, get a High-End BRAVIA, those are worth the money. But, I am sure you can't go wrong if you find a good deal on one these suckers from these these low-end series.I'm not really sure where BRAVIA's are made, I think they're made in Malaysia or Korea or China. The BRAVIA Engine 2 is something they use to push they're High-End models and supposedly offer better picture.

Question : I have a 52 inch Sony Bravia LCD TV that is not working. What should I do with it?
I had a technician look at it, and the estimate to fix it was more than most new TVs cost. Sony actually declined to fix the problem, and just sent me a brand new TV instead. The people that delivered the new tv would not take the old one. What should I do with this one?
Answer:
Most cities have particular days or locations where they will accept electronics for recycling. Give them a call and figure out when or where that is and turn the TV over to them.

Question : how to play blu-ray dvd on sony vgnfz21m laptop thru hdmi cable to sony lcd tv hd ready?
Is it possible to overcome the block that sony have put on preventing the export of the blu-ray display from the computer. I assume they have done this to maximise sales of blu-ray players. I do not have any problem using the tv as a second monitor, it just won't take the blu-ray signal. I would be very grateful for any help with this.
Answer:
Your question doesn't make much sense. If your computer is connected to your LCD via HDMI cable then you should be good. Just extend your desktop to the second monitor. Drag Windows Media Player over to the second monitor and hit play. Anything displayed on your laptop can be moved to your second monitor.

Question : My Sony Bravia 40'' Lcd TV suddenly has a gray spot on the right side of the screen. Can this be fixed?
A gray spot a sized of a palm suddenly appeared on my sony lcd tv which annoys us while using the tv.Can this be fixed and will it be costly on my budget?
Answer:
is the problem right in the corner of your tv screen? if so, it may have developed a problem called screen bleeding where basically pixels are letting light through when they shouldnt be. Mine does it slightly and the problem is only visible on very dark scenes. The only solution really is to have the panel replaced (which would be uneconomical)I found that i could reduce the problem by adjusting the backlight, brightness and contrast levels but it will always be there. i also find that the problem is worst when the set is first turned on and gradually gets better.Put quite simply - live with it or replace the tv.

Question : Is it safe to download a movie torrent and watch it on my Sony Bravia LCD Tv using a Sony pen drive?
The manual says it is possible, provided I use a pen drive as mentioned in the list of compatible pen drives for my tv model. But, I was just wondering since torrent files are nothing but pirated, so would my tv face any problems because of that? I know that sony equipments are pretty sensitive.
Answer:
Yes, he's right. They may be invalid format issues with the video file so you cant hear sound/see video, but there is no way it is going to harm your tv. Your tv cant tell if the avi content is pirated or not.

Question : What is the difference between DM port in Sony LCD TV over the normal USB port?
Can we use this DM port to connect USB pen drives to play MP3 nad photos stored in it?Applies to Sony LCD TV V400 & W400 series.
Answer:
No, the DM (Digital Media) port is not a USB port, but a port that can take the cable from a IPod docking cradle. Via an IPod and the DM Port, you can view digital photos, play music clips or videos. Via the USB port, you can use a flash drive to view photo files or play music clips.
