Big TV at its best
true 1080p video with bells and whistles to make it usable. The sound is good (I never use it because it is part of the theater experience) the video and adjustment features terrific. I haven't found a problem with it yet.

Dumb company, don't buy Sony
So, I bought a Walkman a year ago, figuring that Sony would of course make accessories (clock radios, etc) for their own products. Wow! Imagine my surprise when I found out they only make iPOD accessories. Even though I love how the walkman works, WHY would you ever buy one, if you can't get accessories! What an incredibility STUPID company. I wrote an email to them an got no response. So, I will never again buy another Sony product.
Stay away from Sony products, they'll leave you in the cold!

A TV that sends a message
As Marshall McLuhan said, "the medium is the message". This is a television that says something about the owner and that message is "I can afford to spend the price of a medium sized family car on a TV set that will be obsolete within a couple of years". In this respect there can be no doubt that the 70 inch Sony XBR accomplishes its intended purpose brilliantly.
The truly discerning purchaser will use this set to watch CNBC or Fox News, or rather display the same disregarded in the corner of the room while paying attention to something else.
There are larger TV sets out there, but the 120" Philips LED display has a pathetic resolution and the 150" Panasonic weighs about as much as the Ferrari you could buy instead. Actually, the Panasonic does at least have a sensible use - as a cinema screen.
Buy with pride and think not that you could buy the 60" less than a fifth the price and use the remainder to build a health clinic or school in a deprived part of the world and put a picture of it on your wall instead. One advantage of that approach is that with no sound to turn off, its a lot easier to ignore.

FATAL DESIGN FLAW!
The Light Engine/optical block of this TV has a fatal design flaw. it is the subject of a class action lawsuit against Sony. The picture may look great at first by gradually begins to fail, producing the dreaded "green blob." I have had the light engine replace 4 times with no success. Do a google search on sxrd green blob class action. Stay away from this TV!
Rating :
Sony stands behind it
Yes, the optical block failed - which seems like a common issue with this model. If you own this TV you'll recognize the problem when everything starts to look greenish-yellow. Anyway, Sony has extended the warranty to cover this problem and sent out a repairman to replace it without any cost to me. It's a pretty significant repair, since they replace essentially the entire guts of the TV. Very good experience.
Kudos to SONY for doing the right thing for their customers, even in this economy and when so many other companies would simply walk away.

GREAT SHARP PICTURE BUT......
This is picture perfect TV, I always loves SONY TV'S and I always buy SONY brand comes to buy TV'S most my life. I bought 42" wide screen HDTV last year model, around (SEP/2005) for my bedroom. love it!..Great TV & picture ,Bought it for $1600.00 was $2300 when came out I got it real good price. I wait awhile.. Had a problems with it. SONY manufacture relies it. And fix the problem with up dating the soft wear in TV, as he trip to my house. But I want to upgrade my living TV to this new model...Picture is the greatest TV in the store. But 2 things about this TV . NO subwoofer for such as high end TV! They pull that out! So means ,U have to spend another $500 or more for surround sound system .Plus another $500 for TV stand to get some BOOM...second: damn price. $4300??????? Is to high for lame speakers & size ...I just want to wait till around fall ,price comes down around $3000 then buy it ...so I use the rest of the money i saved for surround sound and stand.... is to much money for not such as high solid unit right now..Anyway I cant wait price goes down. & U should too.. Just wait a few months.. But picture part is crystal clean & sharp 1080p. Just Imagine buy this TV buy fall in right price, & hook up surround sound system with BLU-RAY DVD player...ahhh.. I would quit my job for a month and sit in front this TV 24 hours. :)
UP-DATE 6/11/06 Going to NEW model of this 60"XBR hit the store in almost end of this summer, Dose have better picture quality & better compact design, go to "Sonystyle.com" for more info. So better an wait then sorry!!

1080p TV, is that right?
I purchased this TV April 2006. The TV was advertised as 1080p capable. Salesperson in a store said that it can show 1080p resolution pictures. He also said that I can watch movies in 1080p resolution where Blue-ray player is available. I have waited for the devices to be available at stores and finally bought a PlayStation 3 which has Blue-ray drive equipped. I connected the PS3 to this SONY KDS-R60XBR1 TV with Blue-Ray Movie put in the player by HDMI cable. I was frustrated by realizing this TV is not an actual 1080p TV. I called SONY. They say KDS-R60XBR1 is not a 1080p TV but 1080p display. SONY said that it just shows pictures that look like 1080p pictures. How can a TV with 1080p capability and 1080p term in the upfront not show any 1080p resolution pictures? Be careful this TV is not a 1080p TV. It's a 1080p display which the screen output may look like 1080p TV by their definitions. It sure does not make senses at all to me.

Very Disappointed again in Sony
I purchased this television 15 months ago from AFEES. Now I see I paid too much. Too bad they only back their purchases for one year. After intermitant use, mine stopped operating by displaying a flashing light indicating it may come on, but never does. For the time it did work, it seemed loud when powering up when I turned it on. I thought that was normal since it was new. Now I have a monument in my living room with a blank screen. Once again Sony has let me down. That's twice in three months. UPDATE... The technician replaced the $400 lamp and brought the TV back to life. Since then, I've waited for additional parts to correct the bright yellow appearance of my picture with large fuzzy rings and a lack of all reds and blues. The hits just keep on coming.

THIS TV DOES NOT WORK IN ANY SYSTEM!!!
I both this tv last year and have just installed at home, in Brazil. For my surprise, I got only black and white colors. I found out that the propaganda does not consider the Brazilian system PAL - M when it says that it would work in any system. Now, I hope I will get support from the store or Sony on finding a solution to my problem.

Questions & Answers
Question : What is making noises on my Sony SXRD LCD TV?
I have a Sony SXRD series KDS50A2000 rear projection lcd. Lately it has been making an occasional humming sound from the back of the TV. Has anyone else experieced this problem? if you have and the issue is resolved, please let me know so I can get the repair company to stop playing games with me.
Answer:
That is only the fan. Check the menu and see if "high altitude" is on. If so, turn it off and it should work fine

Question : I have just purchased a Sony LCD tv model KDL26s2010 and I can't seem to get a sharp picture when viewing?
I have tried absolutely everything to adjust the settings and I'm still not getting a good picture. I have even looked to see if there is a plastic screen protector to peel off. Can anyone help me get a perfect picture?
Answer:
To my knowledge, the screens are not shipped or sold with plastic shields and LCD TVs are the best. I purchased my first one (Sharp) in the summer of 2002 and just got a Samsung last month. Didn't know what great viewing was until LCD's (now plus HDTV) so something is definitely wrong here.Check the following:Proper installation.Cable or dish connection.Hopefully you purchased it from a reputable seller and you are of course under warranty so don't fuss with it any more than you need to. Call them right away and get technical support and it that fails, return the set. It is not uncommon for a defective set to be shipped from the manufacturer.DON'T WAIT TOO LONG TO TAKE CARE OF THIS SO THAT YOU CAN PROTECT YOUR WARRANTY.

Question : Sony LCD TV Repair Screen has multiple images?
I have a 46 inch Sony LCD it now has ghosting all over the screen one Image is three and lines on the screen. Any thoughts on cause.
Answer:
Well, it could be the 120 Hz Frame doubler, if it is a 120 Hz model.Other than that, it would have to be the Video board.Check your menu....is it doubled too?? If so, it points to the Frame doubler.

Question : Which of the two are better LCD TV manufacturers-- Sony or Samsung?
I am looking to buy a Full HD LCD TV and I have checked out the 32 inch LCD in Sony KLV32W400 and Samsung 550 series.Which of the two brands is good. Also, I was told by the salesperson that there is not much difference in HD (780 resolution) and the Full HD (1080), when it comes to buying a TV below 37 inches. It only matters in TVs 40 inches and above.
Answer:
Personally i would go for the samsung one. I have both the sony and the samsung one and i like the samsung one just that little bit more.

Question : Is it safe to download a movie torrent and watch it on my Sony Bravia LCD Tv using a Sony pen drive?
The manual says it is possible, provided I use a pen drive as mentioned in the list of compatible pen drives for my tv model. But, I was just wondering since torrent files are nothing but pirated, so would my tv face any problems because of that? I know that sony equipments are pretty sensitive.
Answer:
Yes, he's right. They may be invalid format issues with the video file so you cant hear sound/see video, but there is no way it is going to harm your tv. Your tv cant tell if the avi content is pirated or not.

Question : how to play blu-ray dvd on sony vgnfz21m laptop thru hdmi cable to sony lcd tv hd ready?
Is it possible to overcome the block that sony have put on preventing the export of the blu-ray display from the computer. I assume they have done this to maximise sales of blu-ray players. I do not have any problem using the tv as a second monitor, it just won't take the blu-ray signal. I would be very grateful for any help with this.
Answer:
Your question doesn't make much sense. If your computer is connected to your LCD via HDMI cable then you should be good. Just extend your desktop to the second monitor. Drag Windows Media Player over to the second monitor and hit play. Anything displayed on your laptop can be moved to your second monitor.

Question : how do i use 32" sony bravia lcd tv as my computer monitor?
Hi...i wanna get the 32" sony bravia lcd tv to use as monitor for my computer. What cables do i need to buy for that? Is the quality gonna be as same as using the regular computer monitors? Or is everything going to be pixelated? Can i watch videos from youtuves in fullscreen wihout compromising the quality? Any help would be greatly appreciated..thanks!
Answer:
Keep in mind most YouTube videos look pixilated even on regular small computer monitors. If the quality of the video is bad to begin with, it won't look good on an HDTV either.Anyway, the 32" Bravia LCD does make a nice computer monitor. As Rodger says, use a DVI-to-HDMI cable to connect your computer to it if your computer has DVI ports.I'm using my computer on a 52" Bravia LCD HDTV myself. The DVI-to-HDMI cable works very nicely in my setup.

Question : I have a 52 inch Sony Bravia LCD TV that is not working. What should I do with it?
I had a technician look at it, and the estimate to fix it was more than most new TVs cost. Sony actually declined to fix the problem, and just sent me a brand new TV instead. The people that delivered the new tv would not take the old one. What should I do with this one?
Answer:
Most cities have particular days or locations where they will accept electronics for recycling. Give them a call and figure out when or where that is and turn the TV over to them.
