Lower End Model Gives Lower End Results
I'm well aware that this Bravia model is their lower end one and used more as a discount choice. I know it's not going to have the newest technology or the fastest speeds. But I do expect some form of quality when factoring in the price and the Sony name that I've always felt stood for a quality product.
The problem I have is some massive backlight bleeding. Even turned to its minimum I get the splotches in the corners and near the middle when the screen is dark. Now I expect this kind of stuff from a no-name company being sold at a huge discount at Wal-Mart. But Sony has built a reputation as a major brand and I don't expect these kind of glaring issues. I'll try and have it repaired with the 1-year warranty, but it seems like this is an issue on this model that is quite common.
The TV functions and and it's a good picture for the price (when not dark). But the backlight issue is bad and just something I don't expect at this price tag. One positive is that the speakers that come with this model are exceptional and the best I've ever had from a television.

18 months and it bites the big one
I purchased this television 18 months ago and the light panel is acting up already. In fact it must be replaced. Repairing it is not an option. The cost of a light panel is more than 75% of the cost of a new television. I've owned Sony televisions my entire adult life but I'll not buy another.

black cloud, bad picture, unusable tv set
I have purchased my 46" Bravia KDL-46S4100 about 16 months ago.Just after manufacturer warranty expired, the LCD panel started to get a shaky black cloud in the center of the screen and then horizontal stripes distorting the image. I have to wait more than 30 minutes for the picture to clear off. Other than this problem the picture is crisp, very good colors, easy to use controls, no general complains. The authorized repair man came over to my house and cost estimation for the repair was over $1800, more than I have paid for the new tv set. I had to turn down the repair offer, now I need to scrap the tv and get a new one, which definitely will not be Sony again. They lost me as a customer. Recommend buying extended warranty for Sony products.

Great when it works
This is our first LCD TV. It has great resolution and the HD is very impressive. It has served us well with many hours of viewing and Wii entertainment fun. We purchased this TV on the Memorial Day weekend of 2009. On Sunday morning September 27, 2009, my son turned on the TV to watch Sid the Science Kid but the picture and sound never appeared. Sony customer support scheduled a pickup after an unsuccessful diagnostic walk through. It's been almost a month since the TV was taken by the Sony service center representative. Bottom line, we are not sure what to expect from a four month old TV that's been in the shop for almost a month.

Sony Bravia KDL
It was shipped in a very secure container and was flawless. It was a snap to set the TV up and use. No instruction needed and the picture is wonderful. I am very pleased with this purchase. I do believe it was a little expensive being that it was a discontinued model but I wanted this set. The first one ordered was from a seller who indicated that the set was damaged in transit. I am glad that I took a chance on another seller/vendor.
It makes a difference who you purchase an item from. Electronic Expo is a name I will look for in the future.

VERY Disappointed with Sony
After 18 months the main controller board went out and fails to accept digital signals from the tuner. So I have a $1500 game monitor for the kids, $480 for the part... no thanks Sony. NEVER a Sony again.

Excellent Picture Quality--Excellent Features
I purchased the Sony 40" XBR5 in April of 2008. I use an upscaling DVD player and also have my PC connected to the XBR. I hope to soon attach a new 80 gig PS3 to the system. All I can say is the whole package is superb! I have sampled most of the features including the motion enhancers--everything works as advertised. And, of course, the picture quality is second to none. Finally, I cannot detect any fan noise from the XBR. I recommend this unit to anyone desiring the highest quality LCD display.

Question : which is the best LCD TV Sony or Samsung?
I need to know, which is the best LCD TV Sony or Samsung?I want to buy 46" LCD TV, and the offers for both sony and samsung is good, and I have no idea about the quality of samsung's tv. and is there any information or websites that show benchmark or LCD tv tests.
Answer:
CNET has good reviews: http://reviews.cnet.com/best-high-definition-tvs/Having said that, nothing beats the naked eye. This is purely an individual preference. I can tell you my experience: I bought a 46" Samsung because the Best Buy worker was pushing it. He told me that he has one, and he likes it better than the Sony. So, I bit. Got it home, set it up, and it looked nice. However, the net morning, when I opened the blinds, it became a giant reflective mirror. The piano gloss finish reflected sunlight and the screen itself is very reflective. You won't see these issues in any professional performance review. I couldn't stand it. Took it back and bought a Sony Bravia XBR4, and wow... the difference was indescribable. The screen is a floating glass design that does not reflect light, which is nice. The frame is also non reflective. The icing on the cake, however, was the picture quality. To my eyes, Sony destroys Samsung. No competition. The best LCD television on the market is the Sony XBR series. Right now, I think it's up to XBR9, but I heard the XBR8 uses LED backlighting, so that might be a great buy.

Question : What do you think about the Sony Bravia LCD TV range?
In particular the W series? Im thinking of buying the Sony Bravia KLD -40W2000. I read amazing reviews on it but after having gone to see it in a shop, some of the assistants told me it was overrated, and overly-priced. I looked pretty good though. If you have considered this tv yourself or even have one please let me know what you think. I need a final push before making this investment.Thanks.
Answer:
Frankly I have learned not to pay much attention to the people in the store, they are usually not qualified to help you purchase batteries for your remote control let alone give you a recommendation on your TV. I took a quick look around and this model seems to be getting really good reviews, so I would say go for it.

Question : My 32'' Sony LCD TV has a whine/squeal that is very high pitched. What could be causing it?
I got a 32'' LCD TV by Sony in July. By mid-August the TV was producing a high pitched squeal or whine after being on for just 30 minutes. I called warranty repair, and the man replaced the power supply in the unit. About a day later, the noise has returned. What could possibly be causing this in a 2 month old TV?
Answer:
Any TV can develop problems, but a brand new replacement power supply should not fail again in the same manner. Squeals are often times emitted from failing capacitors. Power supplies use capacitors and typically use larger sized capacitors that can and do fail. What it sounds like is that Sony may have gotten hold of a bad batch of capacitors and you are unlucky enough to have received two successive power supplies with those bad capacitors. Contact Sony and have the power supply checked again. It could also be bad capacitor elsewhere in the system or a failing fan.Do not put your faith blindly into a manufacturer's products. Not all Sony products are great nor are they all problematic. I have heard that Sony has had reliability problems with the M4000 series. I do not know if this is your Sony TV model, but I do hope that you will seek out reliable, trustworthy recommendations before your next purchase. Always be skeptical when making large purchases. Companies fortunes do change with time.

Question : Sony LCD TV: what's the difference between L/M/NL series? What's BRAVIA Engine 2 Technology and 1080/60i?
Does 1080/60i mean the TV has 1080p resolution?Any difference between a Sony LCD TV with and without BRAVIA Engine 2 Technology?Where are Sony LCD TVs made? Many thanks and Merry Christmas!
Answer:
Does 1080/60i mean the TV has 1080p resolution?A:Not really, 1080/60i is Interlaced. 1080p is progressive Therefore I think it's better, you'll get a better picture. The difference between L/M/NL series?Well, the prices the different and according to what I saw on sonystyle Canada website, that they're pretty low in the Series. I don't think they're such great TV's. If you're going to get a BRAVIA, get a High-End BRAVIA, those are worth the money. But, I am sure you can't go wrong if you find a good deal on one these suckers from these these low-end series.I'm not really sure where BRAVIA's are made, I think they're made in Malaysia or Korea or China. The BRAVIA Engine 2 is something they use to push they're High-End models and supposedly offer better picture.

Question : I was planning to buy a Sony LCD TV, but some body is suggesting that Sharp is better. Pls help, I am confused?
I prefer to buy 26 inch LCD TV.
Answer:
First, they are FULL of IT....Second, so are they....Third, This is YOUR TV...not theirs. YOU BUY WHAT YOU WANT TO BUY...not what your neighbor suggests...Fourth....you can always ask ME, and I'll tell you MY experience. And as far as I'm concerned, you were right on target, before these "Friends" stuck their nose in YOUR BUSINESS."Oooooh, I've got a piece of Crap, and you should get one too. Join me in my misery when it breaks" That's what they are REALLY saying.Sharp is better, Samsung is better...Hmmph!
