Outstanding Picture and Sound
I've had this TV for almost 8 months and am as happy with it as I was the day it was set up. The picture is wonderful and the sound very pleasing. There is no pixelating from fast image movement. The frame is brushed metal and narrow enough that the set doesn't stick out. Very beautiful. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this TV again.
My only regret is that I didn't buy the 46" which in retrospect would have fit the room well.

Expensive but worth it
We don't have blu-ray or HD. We use an upsampling DVD player (sony $99) with this TV and have been very pleased with its performance. Images are crisp and the color is excellent.

First time big purchase over internet
All went vary smooth, had no problems with delivery, or the seller. The price was great and the Sony TV is the best, easy menus and great color and picture. The speakers are not that good, knew that from previous reviews, but plan on getting home theater sound system soon.

Great picture unless you are a basketball fan
All of the reviews which praise the picture on the model are right. While the refresh rate (60hz) does cause blurring on fast motion, the only time I notice it is on basketball games. If you are a basketball fanatic, then you will probably want a 120hz model. Otherwise, this one is just fine.

Tickled Pink
When you buy a Sony, you are buying quality. This is my second Sony TV set. I have been viewing the TV with rooftop antenna for almost six weeks now and I'm still in awe at the picture quality. My next purchase will be a Sony DVD HD recorder to compliment my new HD TV. I can not omit mentioning J & R music and Computers (this is my second purchase with them) for their efficient and quick service.

New bulb within 2 years!!!
I wouldnt buy one of these. I just replaced the bulb after less than 3 years of use. It is between $120 and $180 for the bulb. RIDICULOUS!! Picture and sound are good, but who can afford this much maintenance on a flippin TV for cryin out loud!!

You might get a few good years out of it.
I paid A LOT of money for this tv 4 years ago, so I expected it to last. Last it is not. The screen is slowing being covered in blue. The cause is unknown to us and to Sony and cannot be fixed, so the only suggestion Sony will give is to replace it. Which when we can no longer stand it we will do, but it will not be replaced with another Sony...ever again. Be aware that we are not the only ones with this problem in fact we've heard of much worse cases than ours with this tv. In fact Sony has actually had people purchase replacement bulbs and other stuff that does NOT fix the problem and sticks the customer with the cost of the replacement merchandise! My review on this tv...buy a different one and from another company with better customer service!

DO NOT BUY
I've had this TV for about 4 years now. I would give it 0 stars if Amazon would let me!!! The right side of the tv has blue streaks all over it and it is covered in blue dots all over the tv set!!! When I contacted sony about the problem i was told i could purchase the repair kit BUT it would cost anywhere from 700-1000 dollars for someone to install it for me?? I could not believe it!! The optic block went out on this tv just a few weeks after the warranty ended! DO NOT buy this product!! There is no point in me getting it fixed when i could buy another 42 in tv for under the 700 dollars it would cost to fix! I will never buy another sony tv again. Bad company that created a product with problems but refuses to fix them.

Timing, timing, timing ..
It is Oct 2009 and I have decided to take a few minutes to vent and share personal frustrations re my experience with Sony. I am feeling defeated from having spent countless hours on the ever popular 'blue haze/cloud/dot reality nightmare show' of my Sony KDL-42WE655 Projection TV screen which I purchased on sale for $2400 in Oct 2004. In this instance, my once 4 year extended warranty which I had purchased through Best Buy as insurance against unforeseen potential major repair issues such as this expired last Oct. I am informed the optical block/engine is leaking and needs replaced at a cost of approx $1100 of which is only a temporary fix to an ongoing defective problem. Sony's Extended Warranty Service terminated Dec 2008 for a KNOWN manufacturer flaw which was apparently posted on their website and communicated in writing via letter to all owners potentially affected - I personally did NOT receive the letter and found that curious? I have had much discussion with various people in the electronics field, service techs and have read countless blogs. So I contacted Sony in hopes of getting it fixed beyond their warranty deadline. Well, I was reminded many times that the warranty period ended; however, I persisted further and spoke with a supervisor who offered me a hint of hope(with no further negotiation I'm told) is as follows:
(a) Sony to pay $300 toward the repair only after I show proof via diagnostics from an authorized Sony Service Center which is 1/2 of the $300 already but can be applied toward the repair -OR- (b) Sony to give me a discount toward a new Sony TV - minimal it is and from a TV of their choice delivered to me by truck. This second option is not without a small catch attached as I must physically remove the serial number (tab) off the back of my current TV and send it to them to get the 'deal' and by doing so it would take my TV out-of-service obviously restricting me from getting it repaired on my own - well, I don't think so! I currently have no plans. I encourage any response to this matter from anyone having current knowledge, experience (positive or negative) and/or thoughts or suggestions on how or if I should proceed further. Their 1/4 offer of the cost of the repair just doesn't sit well with me and I think that is their aim to get me to bite the bullet. Truthfully, I am sick of it but there is a principal here and I have read about Sony being in Litigation regarding this very issue. So for now I am going to sit tight and keep my ears and eyes open. I believe there may be further recourse but not sure I want to hassle with it. Sony has marked my file and is awaiting a response from me - don't know of a timeline (if any) on this.
Over the years I have purchased Sony TV's having been the best of the best. This experience has left me numb and when it comes to Sony expressing how they stand behind their products well, maybe in lip service! I want action and fairness and still want this matter resolved. TIMING is everything.. IF only I had received that letter.. IF the blue haze/cloud/dots on the screen had ONLY been more visable sooner.. guess I'm a little late, so they say. Timing, timing, timing. IF Sony would just make exception here and extend a warranty that they already extended due to an admitted error/defect? C'mon!

Optical Block Problem
After about 4 years now I have replaced the most expensive bulb in the world twice now. Not what I expected. Now this TV has an Optical Block probelm which means that I see a Blue Splat on the bottom right hand corner and also many tiny blue dots all over the screen. Sony acknowledges this defect and has offered to fix it or have me pick from a select list of TV's for a large discount. So be sure to call them if you have this problem.
Rating :
Please don't waste your money
The Sony WEGA LCD projection TV's have a well known optical block issue that doesn't present itself immediately and in most instances not until the warranty has expired. Sony is aware of the problem and will not provide a recall. The cost to replace the optical block is approximately $1,200.00. Since Sony won't provide an honorable repair for the TV, please don't spend your hard earned money on a TV that will be unusable within 24 months like we did.

It was nice until the optical block went bad...
I got this TV in November 2004, and now 5 years later, started seeing blue dots all over the screen. I was not aware that there was an optical block issue on this model until now... Disappointing to be sure. My extended warranty has expired last year, and I didn't purchase a new one.
Just called Sony, and they would not offer any discount for a repair. I inquired about the price of the optical block (just the part, not the labor), and they quoted $562. They did offer 4 TVs at what appears to be a good discount, so now I have 14 days to decide. Not sure what to do. Here are the TVs in case anyone is interested: KDL-40VE5 $500 KDL-52VE5 $875 KDL-52XBR9 $1150 KDL-46W5100 $700

DONT BUY THESE TVS- RIDDLED WITH PROBLEMS THEY DONT TELL YOU!!!
I purchased this exact TV only a 60 inch in 2004 and that was the beginning of my troubles. Let me tell you why simply it is not cost effective to purchase this tv even if it is FREE: Dont do it. This is why.
1. These are multiple class action law suits against Sony because all the LCDs they put out between 2003 to 2008 have bad parts, namely a big problem called the OPTICAL BLOCK. They new it and shipped them out anyway. It cost 1000 to 1500 to replace, but the kicker is all SONYs optical blocks for these TV are refurbished and subject to the same problems as the originals.
2. Blue or Green or Yellow Dots or lines begin to appear on your TV until you cant see your picture anymore. THis is what happens when the OPTICAL Block goes on these TVs. After being sued so many times, sony stopped making these rear projection TVs. Go to Google or Yahoo and search this phrase, "Blue dots on my sony lcd tv". There is more information than you want to read and all of it make me mad I purchase my tv in 2004 for 3500 bucks.
3. THey also dont tell you that every 1.5 years the picture lamp burns out and you have to replace it for a whooping 300 bucks a lamp. What a joke. I have have had to replace my 3 times. Sony says, well you watch the TV to much. The lamp is only designed to accomdate 10,000 hrs of viewing or whatever they said. But 300 bucks every 1.5 years is BS.
4. The picture sucks if you are not watching a HD Station or a movie. It is unreal how grainy and what this TV looks like when you get it home. Night and day.
DONT BUY THIS TV. DONT DO IT EVEN FOR FREE. CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF ON WEB AND SONY KNEW ALL ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS BUT COVERED THEM UP. These Tvs have so many problems the people selling their used TVs are the ones that SONY wheeled and dealed with. THey told me because they recongize their problem they would give me 50 percent off another Sony TV. NOT!!!!!
I would not sell this TV to anyone without telling them what they are getting into. Buying any sony rear projection TVs from they year 2003 to 2008 is bad news. Check out this link. Cut and paste it into your browser.

from the description of the product. The TV is more than a TV, it is also a large screen monitor for my computer. The picture quality is high in HD, and is good in standard digital. The TV also has many other capabilities with picture and sound. I highly recommend it.

Questions & Answers
Question : I have a 32 inch sony lcd tv, would a blu-ray be good for this size screen?
I want to get a blu ray player, but my tv is only 32 inches, its a lcd sony, would this be a good tv with a blu ray player? Its a 720p tv
Answer:
The question I have for you is, what is the resolution of the TV? 32 inches is a pretty good sized TV, and if the TV was capable of a high resolution (1080p would be the ideal) then Blu-Ray would look very nice on it. Another thing to think of is, what kind of audio system you have, since Blu-Ray has some incredible audio. If you have a nice surround-sound system, and a TV with a good resolution, then I think it would be well worth it. I have a 42" tv with Blu-ray and I absolutly love it, will never buy a standard DVD again.Just read that it is a 720p...at that resolution, it will certainly be nice, just not as nice as the 1080p. keep in mind, when you see a Blu-Ray display at a store, they are using a top of the line TV at 1080p. I would suggest that if you truly want to buy one, go to a retailer who has a forgiving return policy....buy it, try it, and if you aren't completly happy with it, return it. Also, keep in mind some scientists believe that we can't truly see the difference between 720p and 1080p. Hope this helps...good luck and if you buy it...enjoy!!!

Question : I just got a Sony Bravia LCD TV, i wanta get surround sound for it, which is the best one?
i got SONY bravia LCD TV, i wanta set up a surround sound system, maybe i should get wireless speakers so i can put them in all sides of the room? whats the best company? and what set should i get?
Answer:
There is no "best one". You really need to research specs and prices and then evaluate yourself on the basis of listening with your own ears. Whatever anybody tells you is the best will be immediately countered by somebody else's opinion......

Question : My Sony Bravia LCD TV has developed a blurred image problem. How do I fix this?
TV model KDL32ML130. The TV has started to have a ghosting problem and all motion on the TV is blurred. As well, the TV has developed a orange tint and is darker than normal. I know that a piece of hardware is bad, my question is which piece do I need to replace to fix it? Is this the LCD going bad, a bad LCD driver board, or the video processing main unit board product number 1-874-195-12? All help would be greatly appreciated.
Answer:
You have to decide if the Blur follows people or if the Blur is stationary overall...Moves.....Video boardStationary...TCon or FPS board...Triple image....FPS board. TURN off your 120 Hz Auto Motion, because that is not supposed to be on all the time, only when the picture looks bad and it corrects it.

Question : How do I link my laptop to my sony lcd tv?
Sony KDFE42A10 42" LCD Rear Projection TelevisionToshiba satellite laptop. Does anyone know which cable I need to connect the two together?
Answer:
Ah yes.... you have the 42" version of my 70"..... Well, what kind of outputs do you have on your laptop? If you have an S-Video output on there, perfect. Now you'll just have to get an S-Video cable. Im guessing by 740 you mean 720p? if so no worries because no one will go exclusive 1080p for a long time to come. As for a good deal on a sony, I'd save some more cash and buy something better like a Samsung

Question : How much would it cost to repair the LCD panel for a Sony LCD TV?
The bottom right hand corner of my Sony LCD TV (Bravia) cracked suddenly while I was watching TV. The display was distorted from the bottom right hand corner to the top. Actually I wonder if this could be repaired afterall.
Answer:
Warning: This is a warning you are not gonna get from the dealers or the manufactures. LCDs have very fragile, very breakable PLASTIC screens. Screens because there are two. The "inner" screen of my 7 mos. old Sony Bravia 42" is broken. Broken by a 34 lb., 3year old throwing an empty plastic cup. The screens are plastic because they can be and it prevents the screen from being reflective. It also makes them CHEAPER to make. No warranty, no repair. If you have children or children visit, do not buy LCDs.I believe mine was defective and an impact that should not have broken it did break it. Try proving THAT! But why did the inner screen break instead of the outer?Sony would have none of that and that really thrilled Best Buy.Sony quoting $2300 to fix a TV I bought for $2000. I believe you. I believe that they are subject to break easier than normal but we cannot prove it.I went and bougth a plasma yesterday.

Question : Why does the screen on my Sony LCD rear projection TV flicker?
Sometimes the screen on my Sony LCD rear projection TV will flicker. It won't go off or anything and it's mostly around the edges but it's pretty annoying. We called Sony and I don't think they knew what they were talking about. They said something about leaving the TV on the same channel for a few hours and that should take care of it. That doesn't do anything at all. It seems to be happening more and more now. We are thinking it could mean that we need to change the bulb. Is that a possibility? Thanks!
Answer:
Flicker around the edges? High possibility it being the bulb, if you had it for 1.5-3 years with out replacing it then it could very well be that. Also AC lines can cause a flicker at a certian frequency.

Question : Which of the two are better LCD TV manufacturers-- Sony or Samsung?
I am looking to buy a Full HD LCD TV and I have checked out the 32 inch LCD in Sony KLV32W400 and Samsung 550 series.Which of the two brands is good. Also, I was told by the salesperson that there is not much difference in HD (780 resolution) and the Full HD (1080), when it comes to buying a TV below 37 inches. It only matters in TVs 40 inches and above.
Answer:
Personally i would go for the samsung one. I have both the sony and the samsung one and i like the samsung one just that little bit more.

Question : How do I connect a HDMI device to my Sony Bravia LCD TV ?
What TV settings do I need to change to get my HDMI device to be viewed on my LCD TV.
Answer:
Change your input. Usually TVs have several inputs and thus you have to press a button on your remote to scan through each one.
