Buyer Beware
When we first bought this television we were absolutely in love with it. However, around the time our set turned 18 months old, the television had to be turned on for 10-15 minutes before the picture would appear. I called Sony who said they could not help me since my warranty was only good for a year. The burden of repair, they said, was completely my own. I decided to "live with it," and simply turn the television on 10-15 minutes before I wanted to watch anything.
However, now the picture is gone for close to an hour. I called Sony again, but apparently the burden is still completely mine to pay for repairs. Yes, I realize that my television is older than the one-year warranty, but I've researched this model online and apparently several others are having the same problem.
I can't wait until Monday when I find out how much it will cost me to fix this problem.
Again, it's a great television if/when it works, but I'm seriously reconsidering ever buying a Sony again if they only stand behind their products for 12 months.

Excellent Product
We bought this product after a couple of weeks of research and thinking. We needed a TV for our niche in the family room. Since we already have a niche, several recommended we buy a DLP so you'll get a bigger screen TV for the same or lower price. When I went to the best buys and the like, I found that the DLP looks good if you are right in front but it does not have a good viewing angle. I loved the look of plasma TVs but again since I wanted it in my family room, I was looking for something brighter. I loved all the SONY's in the stores. Amazon had a great deal on this TV, no taxes, free white glove delivery. I saved nearly $600. I am extremely happy with the HD channels and brightness of this TV in the family room. The only con is for some channels where there is a lot of speed in the picture the TV acts like its catching up. I was told the XBR with 120 Hertz is better in this regard. Overall, I am very pleased with the product and with Amazon. In the future I will not buy any product without checking on Amazon.

WOW!!
I have a few LCD TV's and this one blows me away! I spent quite a long time reviewing different LCD units from different magazines, companies, and online personal reviews, and I found that besides the top Sony Bravia, this one is by far my best purchase I have had in a long time! Make sure you get yourself a set of good Monster HD cables

Worst TV Set I've Ever Owned!
Without a doubt, this Sony KDL46W3000 is the worst TV set I have ever owned. The picture, which I saw demonstrated in several stores on a HD link, is abysmal using any other input but HD. Surely Sony should have realized that only some broadcasts are in HD and most other sources of input are not. They could have compensated for those circumstances instead of letting the buyer suffer from a low quality picture. The sound is no better. It is muffled and unintelligible in many broadcasts, and the Sound Leveler circuit does not appear to make any difference. I thought I was finally done adjusting the sound level from loud commercials to soft movie scenes, and I expected the TV set to strike some kind of balance. It doesn't. Conclusion: Don't buy this TV set at any price. I paid $1847 and wish I had my money back. Based on reviews I have read of other Sony products (after I bought the TV), they no longer manufacture quality electronics. That's too bad. I've had nothing but good luck with this brand until now.

Really Nice !!
I'll describe the TV and the delivery in two separate paragraphs. The rating I have given is for the TV only.
The Sony 46W3000 lives up to every expectation. The colors and resolution are spectacular. I haven't found a flaw of any kind (I used to design television monitors for warbirds). Stated simply its a really nice piece. No buyer regrets whatsoever.
The 'White Glove' delivery was another matter. The delivery company called day before to indicate the set would be delivered between 12-5pm. So as the drill goes you rearrange your life and wait hoping the delivery will be sooner not later. I waited and waited. finally about 4:30p I received a call indicating that the delivery was running late. I had a concert to attend at 7p so the delivery was now becoming awkward. Truck showed up at 6:30p. Driver had a sprained ankle and was on a cane, had no helper. Was barely able to help carry in the set. Had my wife been home alone there would have been no way to bring the set in. A jack strap in the truck used to hold the box in place had cut clear through the cardboard box. Fortunately, no visible damage to the contents. Driver and I unpacked the box and quickly tested the set with a portable dvd player. I thanked the driver and went to the concert. Arrived late got poor seating. From my experience.. Amazon needs to rethink their 'White Glove' Delivery
PS [added 6/09]: In October 08 [six months old] the set failed. It took sony several weeks to get replecement parts. The failure was pretty major with the LCD array being replaced. The set has been working wonderful for about six months since repair.

Timing, timing, timing ..
It is Oct 2009 and I have decided to take a few minutes to vent and share personal frustrations re my experience with Sony. I am feeling defeated from having spent countless hours on the ever popular 'blue haze/cloud/dot reality nightmare show' of my Sony KDL-42WE655 Projection TV screen which I purchased on sale for $2400 in Oct 2004. In this instance, my once 4 year extended warranty which I had purchased through Best Buy as insurance against unforeseen potential major repair issues such as this expired last Oct. I am informed the optical block/engine is leaking and needs replaced at a cost of approx $1100 of which is only a temporary fix to an ongoing defective problem. Sony's Extended Warranty Service terminated Dec 2008 for a KNOWN manufacturer flaw which was apparently posted on their website and communicated in writing via letter to all owners potentially affected - I personally did NOT receive the letter and found that curious? I have had much discussion with various people in the electronics field, service techs and have read countless blogs. So I contacted Sony in hopes of getting it fixed beyond their warranty deadline. Well, I was reminded many times that the warranty period ended; however, I persisted further and spoke with a supervisor who offered me a hint of hope(with no further negotiation I'm told) is as follows:
(a) Sony to pay $300 toward the repair only after I show proof via diagnostics from an authorized Sony Service Center which is 1/2 of the $300 already but can be applied toward the repair -OR- (b) Sony to give me a discount toward a new Sony TV - minimal it is and from a TV of their choice delivered to me by truck. This second option is not without a small catch attached as I must physically remove the serial number (tab) off the back of my current TV and send it to them to get the 'deal' and by doing so it would take my TV out-of-service obviously restricting me from getting it repaired on my own - well, I don't think so! I currently have no plans. I encourage any response to this matter from anyone having current knowledge, experience (positive or negative) and/or thoughts or suggestions on how or if I should proceed further. Their 1/4 offer of the cost of the repair just doesn't sit well with me and I think that is their aim to get me to bite the bullet. Truthfully, I am sick of it but there is a principal here and I have read about Sony being in Litigation regarding this very issue. So for now I am going to sit tight and keep my ears and eyes open. I believe there may be further recourse but not sure I want to hassle with it. Sony has marked my file and is awaiting a response from me - don't know of a timeline (if any) on this.
Over the years I have purchased Sony TV's having been the best of the best. This experience has left me numb and when it comes to Sony expressing how they stand behind their products well, maybe in lip service! I want action and fairness and still want this matter resolved. TIMING is everything.. IF only I had received that letter.. IF the blue haze/cloud/dots on the screen had ONLY been more visable sooner.. guess I'm a little late, so they say. Timing, timing, timing. IF Sony would just make exception here and extend a warranty that they already extended due to an admitted error/defect? C'mon!

DO NOT BUY
I've had this TV for about 4 years now. I would give it 0 stars if Amazon would let me!!! The right side of the tv has blue streaks all over it and it is covered in blue dots all over the tv set!!! When I contacted sony about the problem i was told i could purchase the repair kit BUT it would cost anywhere from 700-1000 dollars for someone to install it for me?? I could not believe it!! The optic block went out on this tv just a few weeks after the warranty ended! DO NOT buy this product!! There is no point in me getting it fixed when i could buy another 42 in tv for under the 700 dollars it would cost to fix! I will never buy another sony tv again. Bad company that created a product with problems but refuses to fix them.
Rating :
You might get a few good years out of it.
I paid A LOT of money for this tv 4 years ago, so I expected it to last. Last it is not. The screen is slowing being covered in blue. The cause is unknown to us and to Sony and cannot be fixed, so the only suggestion Sony will give is to replace it. Which when we can no longer stand it we will do, but it will not be replaced with another Sony...ever again. Be aware that we are not the only ones with this problem in fact we've heard of much worse cases than ours with this tv. In fact Sony has actually had people purchase replacement bulbs and other stuff that does NOT fix the problem and sticks the customer with the cost of the replacement merchandise! My review on this tv...buy a different one and from another company with better customer service!

Looking for XBR performance and design in a small screen TV --- Experience Sony unique features like an enhanced Xross Media Bar with 3D graphics and integrated TV Guide program information, DMex functionality that allows you to add capabilities to your TV, and BRAVIA Engine 2 for an even better picture. Add to that the sophisticated design you've come to expect from the XBR line and 1080p capability, and you can see why we say that the KDL-40XBR6 packs a lot of punch.

Excellent
Excellent product. Quality video and audio. Cable,DVD,PC inputs work well along with outputs to an old stero system for theater effect. Being able to show family slide shows and videos from PC on a high quality screen is priceless.
One item to remember is that no matter how high the quality of your TV it does not improve the quality or content of the product sent by the cable company.

I LOVE my Sony, but also was expremely impressed with service.
I cannot say enough about this company. The model I originally ordered was out of stock, so they Up-graded me to the newest model! They called me and explained the situation and asked if I would mind. I was extremely impressed with this and would recommend them to all. The TV came on time and works great! Paying extra for a Bravia XBR was well worth it. I thought the 40" might be too big for my bedroom (couldn't see the old one from my bed), but it's perfect.!

Warning!
I purchased this t.v. in December '08. It worked great for just shy of one year and then it simply went dead: no picture, no sound, only turns on and off. If the t.v. still worked I'd have no major complaints, perhaps the greens and reds are a little off but I was able to mostly correct this with some customizing. And the sound is excellent, especially when compared to Samsung. Update: I'm now trying to get Sony to replace the t.v. It was repaired and delivered yesterday. After watching it for about 5 minutes, the same problem happened.... No picture, no sound. Needless to say, the only thing that will satisfy me now is receiving a new t.v. --------
Here's the problem. I contacted Sony 8 weeks ago to explain the difficulty we were having, spent about 2 hours trying to fix it over the phone to no avail. I suggested they give me approval to get it serviced, but they insisted I wait for a USB software update in the mail.... 6 weeks later after 3 incorrect address delivery attempts and more customer service incompetence than you can possibly imagine, I finally received the software update (I had them overnight it). And of course, it didn't work.
Next we move onto the service phase where I am now in a holding pattern. I needed to get a repair breakdown and service estimate from the technician, but he wouldn't give me one as he had no idea what was wrong with the t.v.: "No picture. No sound. Huh? Only turn on/off...." Now I am waiting to talk to his manager to get some document I can fax back to Sony along with all the receipts in order for them to approve repair service.
In summary, our t.v. has not worked for well over a month, I have wasted well over five hours talking to incompetent Sony representatives over the phone, and I have little hope of having a working t.v. anytime soon. Thankfully it is still under warranty (by only one week!). I am hoping I have no problems with my other Sony equipment in the future. In any case, this will be my last Sony purchase. Comment

Sony Bravia loving it!
I did a lot of research and then a lot of shopping for this product and am very satisfied with the picture and ease of use.
As a non-techno guy I was a bit concerned about how I would be able to hook it up with my dvd, cable box and sound system but the instructions made this easy.
No regrets on this big purchase.

Absolutely no complaints
I've had this TV for about a year now and I have been nothing by thrilled with this purchase. Absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. Because of the very then bezel outlining the screen, it was the largest screen that could fit in my cabinet, and it fits perfectly. It looks great and watching bluerays and TV is fantastic, even using my "rabbit ears." The PS3 has never looked better.

Question : Sony LCD TV Repair Screen has multiple images?
I have a 46 inch Sony LCD it now has ghosting all over the screen one Image is three and lines on the screen. Any thoughts on cause.
Answer:
Well, it could be the 120 Hz Frame doubler, if it is a 120 Hz model.Other than that, it would have to be the Video board.Check your menu....is it doubled too?? If so, it points to the Frame doubler.

Question : What Sony LCD TV should I get?
Folks! I am looking at the Sony KDL40xxxx series LCD TV's. There is the V series, X and W series that I can see. Could any of you techie gurus advise me on which one to get?
Answer:
You should definately get an x series. yes it is a bit more expensive however it is the only FULL HD t.v of the lot. The others are hd ready. this means a lot more reolution. Known as 1080p rather than 720p. this will be more future proof and it will play hd and blu-ray to full potential. if you buy hd ready do you want to regret it next year when true hd is used on the ps3? if you only watch freeview then go with v or w series as full hd will not be broadcast for 5 years. a u series can be a great deal if latest tech is not essential.

Question : I have a large screen Sony LCD tv. For about 3 weeks now I have noticed a blue color across the bottom?
The rest of the tv is perfect..does anyone know whats about to happen?
Answer:
I have no idea what the blue color is, but I'd call whom ever you bought it from and insist on either service or you are bringing/sending the TV back (assuming you purchased from an authorized Sony dealer).

Question : How do I hook up my Dell Laptop to my Sony LCD TV?
I have a dell laptop and I would like to hook it up to my larger LCD TV, I think I need the blue cord thing that goes from my laptop to the tv for the screen (what is this thing called?) and how do I get sound to go from my laptop to go through my tv speakers? Thanks In Advanced!!
Answer:
There are many ways to hook your Laptop to a TV. First, you need to make sure your TV has the same and correct input and the laptop the correct/same output.1. S-Video - This is probably the most common method out there currently because an S-Video cable is cheap as heck and just about every TV under the sun has a S-Video port. You’ll have to make sure you laptop is equipped with this port. Remember, there are two types of S-Video cables: 4-pin and 7-pin. Most laptops and PC’s are equipped with a 7-pin port, so if your TV only has a 4-pin S-Video port, then this method will not work.2. VGA - If you have a HDTV, then you will be better off connecting using a VGA cable. It gives much better quality than S-Video and as with S-Video, the cable is very cheap. You usually won’t find a VGA port on regular TV’s though, so this option is if you have an HDTV.3. DVI - DVI stands for Digital Visual Interface with “digital” being the key word there. The digital signal will give a higher quality picture than either S-Video or VGA. Of course, your computer will need to have a DVI connection and your TV will need to be an HDTV. This cord is definitely not cheap, it ranges anywhere from $40 to $80.4. HDMI - Using HDMI will give you the best quality by far. No computers that I know of yet have HDMI ports, but you can get a DVI to HDMI cable to connect it to your HDTV. HDMI is compatible with DVI.5. Scan Converter Box - This is the last method that I could think of and it involves using a scan converter box, which takes a VGA signal and converts it into S-Video or component video.Direct quote from - http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/how-to-connect-your-laptoppccomputer-to-your-tv/

Question : I was planning to buy a Sony LCD TV, but some body is suggesting that Sharp is better. Pls help, I am confused?
I prefer to buy 26 inch LCD TV.
Answer:
First, they are FULL of IT....Second, so are they....Third, This is YOUR TV...not theirs. YOU BUY WHAT YOU WANT TO BUY...not what your neighbor suggests...Fourth....you can always ask ME, and I'll tell you MY experience. And as far as I'm concerned, you were right on target, before these "Friends" stuck their nose in YOUR BUSINESS."Oooooh, I've got a piece of Crap, and you should get one too. Join me in my misery when it breaks" That's what they are REALLY saying.Sharp is better, Samsung is better...Hmmph!

Question : I can get a good deal on a 740 37 inch Sony LCD TV. If all stations start broadcasting in 1080 will my TV ?
in 740 still look good?
Answer:
Im guessing by 740 you mean 720p? if so no worries because no one will go exclusive 1080p for a long time to come. As for a good deal on a sony, I'd save some more cash and buy something better like a Samsung

Question : My Sony LCD TV just displays solid pink after a brief power interruption. Any ideas?
I still get audio for every channel AND the TV displays menus and channel identifications, just not the actual video from the channels themselves. Furthermore, I’ve tested with another television and confirmed that this is not a cable line issue (everything works fine on the other TV).Anything you know will be very much appreciated!Oh, it’s a Sony MFM-HT205 if that helps.
Answer:
I would try unplugging the tv for about 5 minutes and let it reset to the factory default and plug it back in. If it is still the same. Try calling or emailing Sony. They will probably just tell you to take it to an authorized repair facility to be checked out. There customer service support center is not very helpful most of the time. You might have to replace your tv, due to the price of labor being so expensive nowadays. Hope this will help you out.
