For consumers who want an HDTV that keeps pace with fast-action movies, sports, and game play, Sony BRAVIA V-Series Flat Panel HDTVs combine Full HD 1080p performance and Motionflow 120Hz technology for an amazing viewing experience. Motionflow 120Hz takes both high-definition and standard programming a step further by increasing sharpness and detail in fast-moving images for more fluid, natural motion. In addition, BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs use proprietary Image Blur Reduction technology to further enhance the picture for even better performance. The HDTVs also feature BRAVIA Engine 2 technology, which uses exclusive Sony algorithms to reduce visual noise and sharpen and enhance an already-striking dynamic contrast ratio. Additionally, they include seven versatile HD connections to ensure you get impressive image quality from all your HD components. Take advantage of four HDMI inputs, component and composite inputs, and a PC input, as well as a USB input that lets you play audio files from USB storage devices, or connect a compatible camera to your HDTV for a quick and easy slide show. Sony knows your home theater set-up doesn't stop with your HDTV, which is why the BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs are compatible with BRAVIA Link Modules -- including the BRAVIA Wireless Link, BRAVIA DVD Link, and BRAVIA Input Link Modules (all sold separately). The HDTVs also support BRAVIA SyncTM technology so you can control all of your compatible devices with a single remote. And all BRAVIA HDTVs exceed ENERGY STAR 3.0 requirements for in-use and stand-by power consumption, meaning you don't need a lot of power to get a lot of performance.

Be Careful When Purchasing This Item
We purchased this TV in Nov, 2009 and hooked it up using the HDMI cables. The set worked great for a few days and then starting losing the sound and picture. Assuming it was our local cable companies issue we contacted them. Five months and six cable boxes later the cable company informed us there was nothing more they could do and to contact Sony which we did. Sony immediately set up an in home service call. The repair tech called to confirm and told us they are aware of the problem and know exactly what's causing it. A BM3? board has been ordered. Why hasn't Sony contacted the consumer about the issue? In the meatime the set is hooked up to component cables, 5 cables total, just to view the TV in HD and it works fine. One of the reasons we purchased it was for the HDMI advantage and Sony's reputaion. Be very careful when purchasing this product. We are extremely dissappointed.

Firmware update to correct issues
I've had 2 of these TVs since december 2009. One of the tv had the HDMI input fail and not knowing there was a firmware update, had it returned and bestbuy replaced it with the kdl-46ex500. Essential the same TV just updated for 2010 with a swivel base, a detachable power cord and more jpeg, mp4, mp3 (etc..) support. But, it lacks a clock. Now the second tv's HDMI's input failed and after an hour of trouble shooting, I unplugged the tv and then plugged it back it and it basically rebooted tv and cleared the issue. After some research, I see there is a firmware update available from sony. You can call and have them send it to you or download it and do it yourself. The customer support rep also mentioned that there is another update beyond that (E3 version) but only if the current update fails to correct your issues. Check sonystyle, Here's the link [...] Other than this, great TV for the price got it black friday from sonystyle with a 120gb ps3 for $1000

Audio Problems
Within days of purchase I began having audio dropouts when changing channels. I checked the reviews here and found many others with same problem. I contacted Sony technical support for advice. Their response was that there are no known problems with this model, they do not pay attention to reviews made on other websites and they gave me a link for a fix that absolutely nothing to do with the problem I described to them.

samsung make better lcd
i own this lcd since december 2009. the picture quality is great but i hate the audio output because it's fixed audio, not variable. i have a klipsch promedia 2.1 hooked up to it, i can't adjust the volume with the sony remote. i have to physically walk up to my speakers to change the audio. i also lost steady sound option, so the volume dynamic is pretty annoying. i am never buying sony tv again. buy samsung instead! they're tv is better in every respect.

Solid matte screen. Sharp picture but has a terrible color shifting bug.
I'll keep it short. The image is sharp. The non-glossy screen is way nicer than Samsung's. The sound is decent for a flat-panel, although still don't expect any miracles. The TV has a huge software/firmware glitch though and it really does detract from the enjoyment. There is something wrong with auto white balance control. It shifts like crazy during certain shows or scenes. Anything with a solid blue background such as Colbert report or anything Fox News makes the thing go crazy. I have the latest and greatest firmware and it does not correct the issue. Sony is aware and you can see lots of videos on YouTube and read about it. It really makes the skin tones go nuts. I've tried adjusting the ACE and other recommended solutions. It is annoying, but tolerable if you can get the TV for the right price. Like many others, I was very annoyed at the glare from the Samsung which is what drove me to go Sony. In retrospect, I wish I would have gotten the Samsung.

The Sony BRAVIA XBR8-Series HDTVs represent the next step forward for Sony HDTV technology. Underpinning this advance is the TRILUMINOS RGB Dynamic LED backlight, which utilizes clusters of red, green, and blue LEDs to produce accurate colors and an amazingly realistic image, and employs local dimming to dynamically adjust the brightness of LED clusters, allowing the XBR8 to display deep blacks alongside bright whites for enhanced image depth and exceptional shadow detail. You can even customize the timeless design of the BRAVIA XBR8-Series by adding optional speaker grilles available in a selection of designer colors (sold separately)

Pricey?
Don't understand why e1 keeps saying this TV is pricey. Just purchased one yesterday from Best Buy who was running a special to get rid of their Sony surround sound units with wires. For the TV AND Blue Ray Player & Sony surround sound, including PA's 6% sales tax, it was $1670. Now that is not cheap. But it's not out of hand compared to other TV's and packages. I hope it lasts as long as the Sony Console that we purchased in 1989 for $999.

Super picture!
The quality of the picture is the best attribute of the 46XBR8. The blacks are jet black and the colors pop. The matte screen is great for avoiding reflections in rooms with windows and bright natural sunlight.
The quality of the built in audio is reasonable for a television but does not compare with a dedicated home theater system.
Installation was simple and the packaging was protective but easy to unpack.
The 46XBR8 is not particularly featureful...it lacks built in internet connectivity. There are external modules that Sony offers for several functions.
Now that the price of this Bravia television has come down, it is a very compelling buy. I have been pleased thus far.

Still the king
Pro's
-Amazing picture in gaming and 1080p blu-ray quality video -Matte screen, extremely helpful in preventing glare -multitude of methods to adjust picture settings, even though the picture looks amazing right out of the box. -Speakers are adequate -Price is sweet considering this is still one of the best tv's of all time. -Get full 18 month warranty -Motion processing does its job well, and works well in fast action.
Cons -Menu system has shown its age compared to the newer models, but its a minor issue -SD, 720p, and 1080i broadcasting can look horrible on this tv, as well as any other lower quality video or gaming, such as the playstation 1 or 2 but thats not the tv's fault. (just thought you should know) -This tv is pretty thick, and there might be people who don't like that, but it doesn't bother me. -A lot of useless features that i didn't find useful, such as looking at pictures, and streaming music (but you need an Ethernet cable and modem to be able to do it)
Now the top question you all are thinking.
Is the tv worth the money?, the answer is hell yes. for being 2008 model it is better than any LED tv on the market today.

Not only do LightSensor and Ambient sensor technologies customize light and color performance to your viewing area, but in combination with Dynamic Backlight Control, they help earn the KDL-32EX40B an ENERGY STAR certification. Further, a Full HD 1080p panel is ideal for use with HD sources like the integrated Blu-ray Disc player, HD satellite, and HD gaming consoles. Look to four HDMI inputs for optimal HD connectivity, and a USB port for access to video, music, and photos on a laptop, thumbdrive, or MP3 player.

This is a ALL IN ONE TV
I was looking to buy an LCD TV for past 1 year and specifically want Internet content. It paid off with SONY KDL32EX40B. It has internet content, it has Blu Ray player, excellent menu design, easy to operate, all in one functionalities.I ordered immediately and I got TV 3 days ago. It has easy quick setup guide. The remote control is easy to type for internet use and the manual is very user friendly to look for specific information. With this TV, there is no need for seperate box of DVD/BD players and couple of remotes to operate.
The TV switched on perfectly and blu ray was able to play DVD's, CD and of course Blu Ray Discs. Now its time to connect LAN cable to TV. Here started the trouble. The TV just got hanged when I turn it OFF and turn it ON back again because of Internet connectivity. when i disconnected the LAN cable, it works fine, but freezes when connected to Internet.I called Sony Customer Care and they asked to reset the TV to Factory settings. But still no use. so they sent a new replacement TV. To my frustation, this TV also came up with same issue. When i called customer care, they escalated to Product support specialist and they assisted to DOWNLOAD new FIRMWARE and installed it to TV. Awesome, it works now !!
TV's which are manufactured before June 18th (Sony released new firmware for this TV - [...]) have this problem of freeze and reboot by itself.
I am bit disappointed with Sony, if it has released firmware for particular model then why it hasn't updated at the time of shipping or atleast it should advised when i called for Sony customer care for first time rather than sending replacement TV.
I am enjoying this TV with all internet content fully loaded and its an amazing piece if you have home theatre system too.
at Glance:
PROS : Integrated Blu Ray Player, Internet Content (youtube, netflix, quirocity etc..,) CONS : Software initialization (internet content & Home menu) takes some time (15-30 seconds to load) when Turn it ON..but its not an issue anyway.

Sony Does It Again
I never understood why Sony stopped offering integrated DVD players in their LCD televisions. It seems so obvious that you don't want a box laying around when the LCD is mounted to the wall. Now we are back to simplicity -- one power cord, one box. We bought this for our daughter and she loves it. We will buy another one for her little sister this summer.
Now if they can figure out how to make televisions "cable ready" again, as they were for the prior 25 years, that will be awesome.
I bought my first Sony in 1991 as the first piece of furniture in my apartment. It still has a great picture, as do the other 7 I have purchased since. You never regret buying Sony televisions, vcrs, laserdisc / dvd / blu ray players. They are the one and only.

Stay AWAY !!!! Panel went after 18 months $2700 just for the part!
Bought this tv and after 18 months the panel is going bad. Sony wants $2700.00 just for the part not including the labor. That is more that the TV cost and I could afford to buy 2 tv's for same cost as the panel. Stay away from this tv!!! Sony support will only offer a small dsicount which is still higher than the cost of a new tv.... Stay AWAY!!! If you are smart you will buy another tv and not this one. Sony support will be no help at all...

Disappointed in the Sony Bravia W series KDL-52W4100 52 inch 1080 120Hz LCD HDTV
THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE TV AND WE EXPECTED IT TO LAST A FEW YEARS. LESS THAN 18 MOS FROM TIME IT WAS INSTALLED GOT WHITE HORIZONAL LINES WHICH ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN, VERY ANNOYING. OF COURSE 1 YR WARRANTY AND THEN YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN. DON'T EVEN CONSIDER THIS TV IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO BUY, WE WERE VERY CAREFUL, NEVER MOVED THE TV AFTER INSTALLATION, NO GAMES WERE PLAYED ON IT, AND TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF IT. SO DISGUSTED WITH THIS PRODUCT, $2000.00 TV SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 18 MOS.

Screen went black after 18 months
I purchased my 52 inch Sony Bravia on January 18, 2009. Until three days ago I loved it. Anyone who came in my house would comment on a clarity of the image. Delivery of the set by Amazon was flawless. Three days ago we were watching the TV and the screen went black. No prior warnings, it just went black. The only reason we knew it was not off, was a small blinking red light on the bottom right corner. A phone call to Sony only told us "it's an LCD panel error" and we needed to have a certified Sony repair service come to the house. Well, the repair man just left (a $95 house call). The estimate to replace the T-CON part is $537. This is very disappointing after spending over $1800 on this set only 18 months ago. My advice is to choose another brand, or invest in the extended warrenty.

Sony Bravia W-Series 52 inch LCD HDTV
This TV is awesome! We are so happy to order it from Amazon.com and shipping was quick. It arrived in excellent condition and setup was quick. We had HD already so we connected the Direct Tv to the big screen in 20 min. The picture quality was incredible in HD and great in regular Tv. The sound is average but we have it hooked up to an entertainment system to enjoy movies and video games. We believe in Sony and wouldn't purchase any other brand.

A beautiful television -after firmware update
I purchased this tv for 825.00$ on display and I cannot find a single flaw with this tv after I received the firmware update through Sony.
For an LCD television, the blacks are incredible and blu-rays looked unbelievable!
I use my PS3 for games as well and with the GameMode On, there is no lag when playing games.
You always pay a little more for Sony products but it is well worth it! I compared this television to many other models like Toshiba, Samsung and Panasonic and I found the Sony to be the best out there.

Can We Just Go Back to the Trinitron?
In the past, I have always had good luck with Sony TV's, and during the 1990's I had a Sony 32" Trinitron that provided a picture and sound that was superb in every respect, the state of the art for the time. It was with some disappointment, therefore, that I found that the TV industry's venture into the Brave New World of HD has saddled an entire generation of TV viewers with substandard sets that are in many respects far worse than the non-HD sets they have replaced. The Sony Bravia series is, unfortunately, no exception to this rule.
The Sony Bravia KDL-40V5100 is best when viewing live sports events. If you like to watch golf, basketball and football, and little else, this is the TV for you. Unfortunately, the Bravia does not do as well in other situations. Here are some of the flaws I have noticed:
(1) Picture problems. The only settings that produce an acceptable picture are in the Vivid range. Turning off the automatic contrast enhancer helps, but the picture quality in most cases is still unacceptable. At its best, the picture is sharp and crisp, giving great definition, but even on many HD channels there is considerable degradation of picture quality, with feathering and blurring quite noticeable.
The less said about non-HD channels the better. The picture performance in non-HD is abysmal, with dark scenes turning black and light scenes whiting out.
Similarly, no matter what the player, non-HD DVDs upconvert poorly. Using an ordinary non-HD TV to play DVDs is a far better choice, and an important one if, like me, you have a large collection of these now obsolete items.
Moreover, for anyone who has a multi-system non-HD TV set (i.e., one that can play PAL and SECAM in addition to the inferior NTSC format used in the USA), the picture quality for DVDs is so much better than on the Sony Bravia that there is really no comparison.
In addition, of course, the Sony Bravia series has significant fading problems when viewed from the side, and it is grossly inferior in this respect to Plasma and normal non-HD TV sets.
(2) Screen. The high gloss screen and plastic borders are totally unsuited to TV viewing. A Matte screen and non-glare borders would provide far more comfortable viewing in all but a darkened theater situation. Any light source reflects off the screen, and is worse than for a regular non-HD TV. In this respect, Plasma TVs are vastly superior.
(3) Sound. The sound is OK most of the time, but there are periodic and inexplicable dropouts, as well as hissing and popping, problems that are not helped by changing the connections to HDMI. There is something fundamentally wrong with the sound system on the Sony 40V5100, and Sony better fix it fast if they don't want a class-action lawsuit. Sound levels also vary markedly from channel to channel for reasons that are not immediately apparent.
(4) Controls. The remote control is awkward to operate, with switching from TV to DVD to PC taking up to 15 seconds. Similarly, it takes about 15 seconds for the TV to turn on, once you have pressed the "on" button for a sufficiently long time to persuade the little green "power on" light to finally put in an appearance. When changing channels, the lengthy handshake procedure results in a two-second delay from HD to HD, and five seconds from HD to non-HD, and often a green screen before the next channel displays. Once again, why am I supposed to view this as an improvement over a regular non-HD TV, where channel changing is virtually instantaneous?
In sum, the Sony Bravia series is a big disappointment. Its one indisputable advantage is that, in comparison to Plasmas and non-HD TVs, it is very light, so when the time comes to throw it away, it won't present a heavy lifting problem. I still have a couple of serviceable Sony WEGA non-HD TV's. They aren't as good as the old Trinitrons from the 1990's, but at least they are tolerable. I'm going to see how long I can keep them going. The Sony Bravia is going too, right out the door.
I have a request for anyone reading this review: please let me know when someone finally produces a decent HDTV. As far as I can tell, no one has accomplished this feat quite yet.

The best LCD TV ever
It is impresive as soon as you plugin and watch TV on it, it is outstanding, since the picture quality is not compared to my 720p former Sharp LCD screen... I have PS3 and a Sony HT, and they interact really good, as well as the remote controls, they TV's work with the PS3. The games with the Motion Flow, as well as Bluray movies are out of this world, the movies look so good that it seems that you are watching through a window than a TV screen. It looks so good that you can see special effects flaws and details not seen on my other TV. The PS3 resolution changed like 200% better with the sony, and the motion flow helps a lot when changing scenes on a fast action game. I updated the firmware connecting it to my router at home, it was simple, and the internet features as the gadgets, YOUTUBE, are ratter awesome, it is a huge leap on tv functionalities not present on the past. I have windows 7 on my computer and I have no problem on viewing my pictures from my tv! as well as listening to the music and watching video files as well! I did alter some of the custom settings on the screen and the image is nothing compared as any other TV screens on the market.

Questions & Answers
Question : How much would it cost to repair the LCD panel for a Sony LCD TV?
The bottom right hand corner of my Sony LCD TV (Bravia) cracked suddenly while I was watching TV. The display was distorted from the bottom right hand corner to the top. Actually I wonder if this could be repaired afterall.
Answer:
Warning: This is a warning you are not gonna get from the dealers or the manufactures. LCDs have very fragile, very breakable PLASTIC screens. Screens because there are two. The "inner" screen of my 7 mos. old Sony Bravia 42" is broken. Broken by a 34 lb., 3year old throwing an empty plastic cup. The screens are plastic because they can be and it prevents the screen from being reflective. It also makes them CHEAPER to make. No warranty, no repair. If you have children or children visit, do not buy LCDs.I believe mine was defective and an impact that should not have broken it did break it. Try proving THAT! But why did the inner screen break instead of the outer?Sony would have none of that and that really thrilled Best Buy.Sony quoting $2300 to fix a TV I bought for $2000. I believe you. I believe that they are subject to break easier than normal but we cannot prove it.I went and bougth a plasma yesterday.

Question : What is the difference between DM port in Sony LCD TV over the normal USB port?
Can we use this DM port to connect USB pen drives to play MP3 nad photos stored in it?Applies to Sony LCD TV V400 & W400 series.
Answer:
No, the DM (Digital Media) port is not a USB port, but a port that can take the cable from a IPod docking cradle. Via an IPod and the DM Port, you can view digital photos, play music clips or videos. Via the USB port, you can use a flash drive to view photo files or play music clips.

Question : My Sony Bravia 40'' Lcd TV suddenly has a gray spot on the right side of the screen. Can this be fixed?
A gray spot a sized of a palm suddenly appeared on my sony lcd tv which annoys us while using the tv.Can this be fixed and will it be costly on my budget?
Answer:
is the problem right in the corner of your tv screen? if so, it may have developed a problem called screen bleeding where basically pixels are letting light through when they shouldnt be. Mine does it slightly and the problem is only visible on very dark scenes. The only solution really is to have the panel replaced (which would be uneconomical)I found that i could reduce the problem by adjusting the backlight, brightness and contrast levels but it will always be there. i also find that the problem is worst when the set is first turned on and gradually gets better.Put quite simply - live with it or replace the tv.

Question : I want to post my Sony LCD tv from New Zealand to South Africa?
Would I need to pay import taxes? And how would be the best way to do it? So far pricing I have found out, is cheaper to post it than to buy another one at my destination..I am posting the tv to myself, and I have had it for nearly a year now..
Answer:
the import taxes will be paid by the person who receives the tv just wrap the tv in loads of bubble wrap and place in a thick cardboard box

Question : I can get a good deal on a 740 37 inch Sony LCD TV. If all stations start broadcasting in 1080 will my TV ?
in 740 still look good?
Answer:
Im guessing by 740 you mean 720p? if so no worries because no one will go exclusive 1080p for a long time to come. As for a good deal on a sony, I'd save some more cash and buy something better like a Samsung

You should definately get an x series. yes it is a bit more expensive however it is the only FULL HD t.v of the lot. The others are hd ready. this means a lot more reolution. Known as 1080p rather than 720p. this will be more future proof and it will play hd and blu-ray to full potential. if you buy hd ready do you want to regret it next year when true hd is used on the ps3? if you only watch freeview then go with v or w series as full hd will not be broadcast for 5 years. a u series can be a great deal if latest tech is not essential.

Question : how do i use 32" sony bravia lcd tv as my computer monitor?
Hi...i wanna get the 32" sony bravia lcd tv to use as monitor for my computer. What cables do i need to buy for that? Is the quality gonna be as same as using the regular computer monitors? Or is everything going to be pixelated? Can i watch videos from youtuves in fullscreen wihout compromising the quality? Any help would be greatly appreciated..thanks!
Answer:
Keep in mind most YouTube videos look pixilated even on regular small computer monitors. If the quality of the video is bad to begin with, it won't look good on an HDTV either.Anyway, the 32" Bravia LCD does make a nice computer monitor. As Rodger says, use a DVI-to-HDMI cable to connect your computer to it if your computer has DVI ports.I'm using my computer on a 52" Bravia LCD HDTV myself. The DVI-to-HDMI cable works very nicely in my setup.

Ah yes.... you have the 42" version of my 70"..... Well, what kind of outputs do you have on your laptop? If you have an S-Video output on there, perfect. Now you'll just have to get an S-Video cable. Question : Would you please describe the difference between these 2 Sony LCD TV models: 40v300a and 40d300a?
Would you please describe the difference between these 2 Sony LCD TV models: 40v300a and 40d300a?
Answer:
I believe the different is in HFR (High Film rate). One ekstra circuit board for this. that's why D is more expensive. It will give more processing to manipulate and makes picture looks better. and LCD panel also different, but max resolution is the same.
