nothing but good...
i'm 100% satisfied with this as a secondary bedroom TV. im fussy about color & contrast, and this delivers as only a Sony can. i have no regrets on this one.

Excellent TV - Excellent Price
We currently have a 40" Sony LCD TV and had been looking for another LCD TV with a matte black frame. Since our other one is a Sony, when we finally found this one it was an easy choice. There is still a thin reflective outer piece around the frame, however this is by far the best out there if you dislike the reflective frames found on 99% of the TV's out there. For the price you cant beat it!
I don't mind that it's only 720p because I don't notice a difference. The other Sony we have is also 720p and has a better HD picture than some newer 1080p models I compared it to.
Overall its an excellent TV. My only complaint is that this is the largest size available in the L series.

Very happy with this purchase
This is my first HD tv purchase, and I am so far very satisfied. Arrived quickly, they called me to arrange a delivery time. I hooked up a Tivo HD with cablecard & will hook up a Blu-Ray player after Christmas. The picture quality is really fantastic. Got it hooked up just in time for the best part of the football season! I like it better than other HD tv's I've seen because even on the non-hd programs it still looks great. We decided to go with the 37" because it fits perfectly in our existing tv cabinet. I've hooked my laptop to it to watch shows & movies on Hulu, and have streamed Netflix movies through the Tivo and both look absolutely spectacular. Sony is a great brand and I don't think you can go wrong with this TV.

Great tv - perfect size
Great tv- Sony quality and the 37" was the perfect size to fit into my tv cabinet.
Thrilled with my purchase. Hopefully I won't regret not getting a 1080p. I can't really tell much difference.

Watch out.......
Be warned. This TV has a problem with the motherboard. The USB patch they send you to correct the various issues, does not work. I purchased two of them and luckily was able to return them for a full refund. The sound drops out, the video signal drops out, the screen flashes and the patch made the picture blurry. I ended up purchasing two Samsung LED TV's which are just great for the same price I paid for the two Sony's. You don't need these problems after spending a couple of grand thinking you are getting a quality product. I cannot stress to you more, stay away from these TV's no matter the price.

Bravia VE5 Review
I purchased this 46 inch KDL VE5 model and a 40 inch of the same model within 3 months of each other. The only complaint I have, and it's a biggie, is that the speakers are terrible, especially with the 40 inch model. Echoing and reverberation is constant, regardless of what channel is playing. It's easy to set up, the picture is brilliant but the audio is terrible. If I had to do it all over again I probably would buy a different brand but it's too late to do anything now because I'm pass the short 30-day return window. I guess it's my fault for relying on Sony's past reputation for high-quality products, especially in the audio business.

My first HDTV :)
This is a great TV.
I bought this as a bundle deal with PS3 slim a month ago and I am loving it so far. This is my first HDTV. Picture Quality is good.I got some calibration settings from CNET, after adjusting to those settings my TV got the best color, contrast. Now it is simply life like. You have a setting called 'theatre' where it smooths the picture. According to specifications Sony LCD 46 inches uses a max of 160 watts.
This TV got some eco-friendly features which I think might be a Sony's publicity factors.
This TV got 4 HDMI outputs. One of the cool feature is you can use TV remote to control PS3 but please note you need to use HDMI cable. And another cool feature is TV will automatically detect if you have something connected to input and all other will not be highlighted.so when you want select you don't have to scroll all of them. Another impressive feature is sound, I thought the sound will be very poor but it is not bad as I thought. It can easily manage a large room. You can live with it if you are tight on budget for buying home theater system.
What I don't like: None
Overall, this is a great tv and I defnitely recommend it.
UPDATE - 3/3/2010 I am thoroughly enjoying it. It is one of my best buy :)

one fine TV!
I generally agree with the reviews already here. This 46" HDTV replaced a 20-year old 21" CRT TV so needless to say I was a bit overwhelmed with the viewing experience after I got it up and running. (Unlike a previous reviewer, the delivery service Amazon used refused to deliver the TV past my garage door.) The assembly/wiring instructions provided with the TV were relatively straightforward. The only agonizing aspect of the setup was when it was searching for channels when the TV is first powered up; it took about 15 minutes. I've had it for about a week now and am immensely pleased with the product. It took a while to get used to watching a screen this large in my family room. I was planning on purchasing a smaller screen size, but I went with the guidelines with the product description on Amazon for 12 feet viewing distance. The HD channels available through my cable service (which provided an HDMI cable for me) look fantastic. The DVDs I've played look fantastic as well; I have it hooked up through the yellow Video 2 port (which from what I am told is the worst way to configure my DVD player which does support 1080p). Nevertheless, like I said it still looks great. I can't really evaluate the sound quality as I have the TV set up through my home theater system. When I have had the volume on the TV on, it didn't seem all that special. The TV seemed a bit pricey overall and only modestly less expensive to purchase from Amazon than from the sony.com website, but I think my investment overall was a worthy one. The Eco-friendly features were just icing on the cake as I always try and shop for energy-saving products. (And yes, I own a hybrid car too!) I would definitely recommend this TV.

Sony BRAVIA VES 46inch HD TV Review
This baby worked perfectly right out of the box. I didn't have to make any color adjustments at all. I was also impressed with the delivery arranged by Amazon. The delivery man stayed with me as we removed the set from the box, inspected it for damages, and made sure the set powered up. He even helped me move the set to the bedroom. This was a gift to my wife, and she loves the picture quality, as do I. I'm seriously considering buying another, to replace a large screen projection set that has nothing wrong with it. I connected the Sony to a stereo system, but we rarely use it. The internal speakers work just fine. You can't go wrong with this Sony.

Customer Review :
Beautiful TV, Fabulous Pictures - like XBR9 except 240 Hz
My Sony 52W5150 is a thing of beauty! The pictures are fabulous and it looks great in the living room also. My old 60 Hz Sharp 46 inch cannot compare to this TV in terms of deep blacks and motion picture quality.
First, the pictures are amazing! The blacks are so ridiculously black... my biggest pet peeve on a HDTV is the greyish black when there's supposed to be a black background on some older TV's. You don't have that problem with this TV. This TV has Bravia Engine 3 (Sony's latest video processor) and has a 120 Hz refresh rate. Inbetween those two, the motion judder that I used to see on my old Sharp TV during fast action scenes in movies or sports are gone. All I see is smoothe motion which is a thing of beauty. Once you turn off the "Vivid" colors mode, the colors look real and true to life. I just love it. In fact, my wife told me how she noticed for the first time all the intricate details of the makeup on the TV news anchors' faces. That's high picture quality.
Second, it looks great in the room. I love the Sony light that comes on on the bottom center of the bezel when the TV is on. (In fairness, my wife hates it so be aware that all or most late model Sony HDTV's have this feature) And it looks great whether it's on or not... showing the deep blacks and the rich colors. It really does become the center of your family/living room entertainment. Some prefer the touch of color from Samsung... I prefer the all black look of my TV.
Finally, comparing the specs on this TV versus the top of the line Sony XBR9, there wasn't enough difference to pay the extra $500 premium. Both TV's have the same contrast ratios (3,800 native, 100,000 dynamic). For novices, the contrast ratio is a rough ratio of the brightness of the darkest color the TV is capable of versus the brightest color. So the higher the number, the more capable the TV is in terms of reproducing a wide range of colors at a wide range of brightness. They also look very similar, both use the latest Bravia 3 Engine video processor to produce their pictures, have the same # of HD ports, and allow for widgets & broadband access to Internet.
The three major differences are the following: 1) 120 Hz vs. 240 Hz refresh rate, 2) 8 bit versus 10 bit panel, and 3) of course the $500 or so in price premium. Frankly, my research into 120 Hz vs. 240 Hz refresh rates lead me to conclusion that most people can't really notice the difference. People can notice the difference between 120 Hz and 60 Hz (as I pointed out earlier), but the 120 vs. 240 seems much more marginal. I am not such a videophile that I will pay a serious premium for a marginal difference. Then the 8 bit vs. the 10 bit panel is an even more dubious distinction. 8 bit panels allow for 17 million colors... the 10 bit panels allow a billion in theory.... But you don't really need it. That's because no content source available right now (not blue ray, not HD broadcast, HD cable/satellite) can differentiate colors to that degree and no LCD panel can reproduce that many colors at once. My advice is - save your money and buy the 10 bit panels when the content actually catches up. Buying 10 bit panel right now could be like buying a 50 inch plasma TV in 2000 for like $20K when no real HD content sources were available to take advantage of the big screen & TV capability.
The only thing this TV does not have is LED backlighting. This TV and the XBR9 are Sony's best CCFL backlit LCD TV's. Now the latest TV's have started to use LED backlighting technology to really hike up the contrast ratio to 1 million to 1 and beyond. Sony's latest release XBR10 does this as do the Samsung B6000, B7000, B8000, and B8500 series TV's. Those TV's are fabulous TV's, and they look so cool with their super thin form factor (Samsung's are 1.2 inches thick!). But I am not prepared to pay double or even triple the cost of my W series to get a similar sized LED backlit LCD TV just yet. Wait 3 years and the prices will be MUCH cheaper, since by then larger screen true LED TV's called OLED (not the LCD with LED backlighting TV's that are available now) will probably be more widely available.
By the way, the Samsung TV most comparable to this TV is the Samsung 52B650. Both are 120 Hz, near top of line TV's with CCFL backlighting. I could have gone with either, but I ended up going with this TV because I got a great deal on it and because my sound system and blue ray player (PS3) are Sony products - hello Bravia Synch. Some do think the picture quality on the Samsung is slightly better... but I found the differences to be virtually indiscernable to my eyes. Can't go wrong with either as Samsung and Sony are, IMO, the two greatest LCD TV makers right now... but Samsung seems to be pulling ahead lately.
Overall, fabulous TV... well worth the costs. One of the best top tier, large screen size TV's available with CCFL backlighting. LED backlighting is better, but it costs over double. So for non-early adopters, this is the way to go.

52 Sony Bravia W Series
Great picture on this 52 inch Sony Bravia but the sound is average. It is noticeably thin so I guess the trade off is lack of big speakers to deliver great sound. I have it plugged into a Blu Ray HT system and I'm very happy with the purchase - sounds great. The TV is very easy to use - easy setup -- and connects to the internet via ethernet cable. I would have preferred that the TV wirelessly connect to the internet but that would be more $$$. I think that the Netflix widget which will be available in Oct-Nov 09 will end up being very useful -- the internet widgets all seem cute -- time will tell whether I really use them or not.

Incredible Machine!
Santa Claus brought this TV to our home on the 25th. I couldn't wait to power up the unit even though it was late in the evening after getting home from our annual Christmas gathering at my folks home. My previous unit was a Pioneer Elite 50" second generation projection. Nice picture, really big and heavy, terrible off center view, but overall a nice tv. This thing just blows that old technology away. While shopping with Santa, I purchased a Sony BDP-N460 Blue-ray Disc player to go along with the new TV. I think this is a must if your are planning to move up to this level of picture quality. The Blue-ray player will up-convert your older DVD's to a HD signal, and the TV will indicate it is receiving a HD signal via a little LED on the front panel by the power "on" indicator. The picture is just stunning!
Over the Holiday week I have enjoyed watching older Pixar movies such as Monsters Inc, as well as The Incredibles. I just couldn't ask for better picture quality! I do have to warn you though; once you see a Blue-ray movie on this tv, its over. You will only want to by Blue-rays from now on! Your jaw will surely drop when you watch Monsters Vs Aliens on this tv through a nice Blue-ray player.
Another interesting feature that I have been playing with is the Bravia Internet Widgets. The TV has a LAN port on its back so you can connect it via a CAT5 cable to your high speed internet connection. I had to run out to BestBuy and pick up a ethernet switch to make all of this work... but it did work after making all of the connections to my router. When you push the Internet Widget button on the remote it will take you to a list of applications that you can apply to the tv such as the latest news or weather, or stock updates. Things like that. I thought that was kinda nice.
I would recommend that you utilize the HDMI ports for all of your equipment if possible. This type of connection will offer you the highest possible quality thats currently available. And go with the middle to topend levels of quality with these cables. They are a bit costly though, but the quality of the picture and sound is incredible.
I read the other reviews on the 5150, one reviewer indicated the sound was not as great as they had hoped. I really thought the sound was really good for the provided TV speakers. But really, if your going to buy this tv, you really need to set up a 5.1 or 7.1 sound system. I have mine running through a Denon AVR-3806 and then through seperate speakers. I believe this will give you the greatest enjoyment.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Sony KDL-W52W5150 to anyone wanting a fantastic TV! We love it!! Thanks Santa!

Nice TV But Has Some Issues
This is a nice TV but it does have some important issues. First of all the clouding in dark scenes or "flashlighting" can be annoying and is a common defect on these TVs. Sony is aware of the issue and their only suggestion is to turn down the backlight and/or brightness. If you like a bright vibrant picture, you will not want to turn down either. The second issue is the sound. You would think that a product made by Sony would have above average sound quality. This TV has way below average sound. The speakers are mounted in the back of the TV which makes it sound like it's in a box. When you do try to turn up the sound to compensate, the speakers vibrate and distort. You will need to buy a sound bar speaker to get good sound. The good features of this TV are the vibrant colors of the picture and the internet capabilities. If I had to do it again, I would probably wait until the prices of the LED TVs come down but I would still buy a Sony since they have the best picture.

tv- amazing, experience-not
The TV was a gift and has been thoroughly enjoyed by the recipient. Definitely recommend the TV! VERY light, great picture, great sound! I was not pleased, however, with the experience. I have bought off Amazon hundreds of times and always had a great experience! This time, Im afraid, was not the same. I ordered the TV 10 days before Christmas and it arrived a week after Christmas (which isnt fun when it is a present). It was impossible for me to get in touch with the shipping company. I tried calling several times and emailing with no response! They finally called my house phone to set up a time (an 8 hour window of time I had to be home on a weekday) and when they showed up it was only curb delivery- which was not stated anywhere! We had about 8 inches of snow on the ground and I was at home by myself with a one year old leaving me unable to carry the huge box inside until someone else got home. I thought I was making it easier on myself by having it delivered with "free shipping", but looking back would just go to the store so I could guarantee arrival before Christmas and would have someone with me to bring it inside the house.

Home Theater Store = BAIT & SWITCH
First off this is not a negative review of the Sony BRAVIA W-Series KDL-52W4100 52-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV. This is negative review of the seller Home Theater Store which pulled a BAIT & SWITCH on me when I tried to order the TV through Amazon. After I ordered the TV I received an email from Home Theater Store saying I was eligible for a free Sony upgrade to the KDL52W5150. I called Home Theater and told them I did not want the upgrade. They said they would ship out the TV I ordered (KDL52W4100) within 24 hours and I should receive the TV in 2 days. After not hearing from them 2 days later I call Home Theater and this time they tell me they do not have my TV anymore. ??? They say it's defective. I asked them when will they receive a new shipment of the TVs they said they will not receive anymore of the 52W4100. They told me I can either cancel my order or get the Sony upgrade KDL52W5150. Needless to say I was infuriated and cancelled my order. As of now they are still offering the KDL52W4100 on Amazon when they've told me they don't have it in the warehouse. I will never order from Home Theater Store and I strongly suggest Amazon remove their listing of this product.

Problem with TV
I bought this TV last summer. It performed so well that I bought another one 6 months later. Now some black lines started to develop on the screen of the first one. The factory warranty already expired, and replacing the panel is so expensive. Very disappointed. Just hope the second one will fare better.

I watch hockey, which is a fast moving game and the 120 Hz is just the anwer to the fast puck movement. Fast delivery and easy set-up. A completly satisfied purchase.

Poor Picture quality, I can't believe it's a Sony!
This is my first Sony TV set (KDL46V4100). My wife and I chose it mainly because of Sony's reputation. We loved it so much at the beginning. But couple days after I took it home, I noticed every time I turn on the TV, only on HD channels, there are many black spots on the picture, especially on people's faces. After one hour or so, those black spots gradually disappeared. I am not sure if this is due to the cold weather. But this is Sony! It should not need warm up! My old Panasonic and Hitachi do not need, at least.
I visited sony's website and did a firmware update. It doesn't help. Since it's still under warranty, I am going to call Sony for repair/replacement, or return it to Best Buy.
Every thing else is good. But poor picture quality is enough to get this Sony a 1-star. Unbelievable!

Great experience with Sony service
So far, my experience with Sony's KDL-46V4100 has been very good. Picture is excellent, after about 4 months I have had no problems.
The only dilemma I had was user error - at first I had some older DVD players which would not function on the Composite input to the TV. I finally had Sony service come out to show me that my older players, even though they had composite output, were not compatible with this television (duh). But, I had one newer player than worked just fine. Service could have charged me $100 for the visit, but they didn't, the technician was patient with my ignorance.
So I would rate my local service provider for Sony very highly. Quite a shocker.

What a great surprise!
I ordered this tv a few weeks ago because it was on sale and the shipping was going to be free for it. I had been searching around for the best deal on a quality tv for months now, and finally pulled the trigger on this one after i had done some research. To my surprise, before the day that the tv was supposed to be sent, i received a call from Home Theater Systems saying that they no longer make this tv anymore and that they would upgrade me to a current model for free. I was immediately shipped the VE5 46 Inch Bravia with everything updated such as refresh rate, more HDMI ports, and everything else. Turned out to be a $2,000 dollar tv for less than half the price. Quite a steal in my book.

Last Sony for me, terrible support, terrible features.
I got this TV for what looked at the time as a great price (sub 1k$) and I preferred Sony over other brands due to their quality reputation. It appears that Sony are producing junk. The image quality is mediocre, and the features are minimal, the menu is terrible, searching for features you endup nowhere. Sound could be better.
One point that was very important for me is support for 25fps via HDMI. While the rest of the brands support this option, Sony quantized the world into regions, and there is no way for you to play HD that was recorded outside the US. I will repeat this point as it is important: Sony HDMI would not play European standards while most of the other TVs do. I tried contacting Sony via email thinking that there should be a simple patch to correct this glich. Nada! Their support keep talking about PAL vrs. NTSC which are brodcating standards for SD, and have nothing to do with their lack of support for varrying HD frame rates.
This is my last Sony TV. They simply optimized me away!

Questions & Answers
Question : My Sony Bravia 40'' Lcd TV suddenly has a gray spot on the right side of the screen. Can this be fixed?
A gray spot a sized of a palm suddenly appeared on my sony lcd tv which annoys us while using the tv.Can this be fixed and will it be costly on my budget?
Answer:
is the problem right in the corner of your tv screen? if so, it may have developed a problem called screen bleeding where basically pixels are letting light through when they shouldnt be. Mine does it slightly and the problem is only visible on very dark scenes. The only solution really is to have the panel replaced (which would be uneconomical)I found that i could reduce the problem by adjusting the backlight, brightness and contrast levels but it will always be there. i also find that the problem is worst when the set is first turned on and gradually gets better.Put quite simply - live with it or replace the tv.

Question : I was planning to buy a Sony LCD TV, but some body is suggesting that Sharp is better. Pls help, I am confused?
I prefer to buy 26 inch LCD TV.
Answer:
First, they are FULL of IT....Second, so are they....Third, This is YOUR TV...not theirs. YOU BUY WHAT YOU WANT TO BUY...not what your neighbor suggests...Fourth....you can always ask ME, and I'll tell you MY experience. And as far as I'm concerned, you were right on target, before these "Friends" stuck their nose in YOUR BUSINESS."Oooooh, I've got a piece of Crap, and you should get one too. Join me in my misery when it breaks" That's what they are REALLY saying.Sharp is better, Samsung is better...Hmmph!

Question : How do I hook up my Dell Laptop to my Sony LCD TV?
I have a dell laptop and I would like to hook it up to my larger LCD TV, I think I need the blue cord thing that goes from my laptop to the tv for the screen (what is this thing called?) and how do I get sound to go from my laptop to go through my tv speakers? Thanks In Advanced!!
Answer:
There are many ways to hook your Laptop to a TV. First, you need to make sure your TV has the same and correct input and the laptop the correct/same output.1. S-Video - This is probably the most common method out there currently because an S-Video cable is cheap as heck and just about every TV under the sun has a S-Video port. You’ll have to make sure you laptop is equipped with this port. Remember, there are two types of S-Video cables: 4-pin and 7-pin. Most laptops and PC’s are equipped with a 7-pin port, so if your TV only has a 4-pin S-Video port, then this method will not work.2. VGA - If you have a HDTV, then you will be better off connecting using a VGA cable. It gives much better quality than S-Video and as with S-Video, the cable is very cheap. You usually won’t find a VGA port on regular TV’s though, so this option is if you have an HDTV.3. DVI - DVI stands for Digital Visual Interface with “digital” being the key word there. The digital signal will give a higher quality picture than either S-Video or VGA. Of course, your computer will need to have a DVI connection and your TV will need to be an HDTV. This cord is definitely not cheap, it ranges anywhere from $40 to $80.4. HDMI - Using HDMI will give you the best quality by far. No computers that I know of yet have HDMI ports, but you can get a DVI to HDMI cable to connect it to your HDTV. HDMI is compatible with DVI.5. Scan Converter Box - This is the last method that I could think of and it involves using a scan converter box, which takes a VGA signal and converts it into S-Video or component video.Direct quote from - http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/how-to-connect-your-laptoppccomputer-to-your-tv/

Question : I have a 52 inch Sony Bravia LCD TV that is not working. What should I do with it?
I had a technician look at it, and the estimate to fix it was more than most new TVs cost. Sony actually declined to fix the problem, and just sent me a brand new TV instead. The people that delivered the new tv would not take the old one. What should I do with this one?
Answer:
Most cities have particular days or locations where they will accept electronics for recycling. Give them a call and figure out when or where that is and turn the TV over to them.

Answer:
Ah yes.... you have the 42" version of my 70"..... Well, what kind of outputs do you have on your laptop? If you have an S-Video output on there, perfect. Now you'll just have to get an S-Video cable. Question : which is the best LCD TV Sony or Samsung?
I need to know, which is the best LCD TV Sony or Samsung?I want to buy 46" LCD TV, and the offers for both sony and samsung is good, and I have no idea about the quality of samsung's tv. and is there any information or websites that show benchmark or LCD tv tests.
Answer:
CNET has good reviews: http://reviews.cnet.com/best-high-definition-tvs/Having said that, nothing beats the naked eye. This is purely an individual preference. I can tell you my experience: I bought a 46" Samsung because the Best Buy worker was pushing it. He told me that he has one, and he likes it better than the Sony. So, I bit. Got it home, set it up, and it looked nice. However, the net morning, when I opened the blinds, it became a giant reflective mirror. The piano gloss finish reflected sunlight and the screen itself is very reflective. You won't see these issues in any professional performance review. I couldn't stand it. Took it back and bought a Sony Bravia XBR4, and wow... the difference was indescribable. The screen is a floating glass design that does not reflect light, which is nice. The frame is also non reflective. The icing on the cake, however, was the picture quality. To my eyes, Sony destroys Samsung. No competition. The best LCD television on the market is the Sony XBR series. Right now, I think it's up to XBR9, but I heard the XBR8 uses LED backlighting, so that might be a great buy.

Question : What is the difference between DM port in Sony LCD TV over the normal USB port?
Can we use this DM port to connect USB pen drives to play MP3 nad photos stored in it?Applies to Sony LCD TV V400 & W400 series.
Answer:
No, the DM (Digital Media) port is not a USB port, but a port that can take the cable from a IPod docking cradle. Via an IPod and the DM Port, you can view digital photos, play music clips or videos. Via the USB port, you can use a flash drive to view photo files or play music clips.

Question : how to play blu-ray dvd on sony vgnfz21m laptop thru hdmi cable to sony lcd tv hd ready?
Is it possible to overcome the block that sony have put on preventing the export of the blu-ray display from the computer. I assume they have done this to maximise sales of blu-ray players. I do not have any problem using the tv as a second monitor, it just won't take the blu-ray signal. I would be very grateful for any help with this.
Answer:
Your question doesn't make much sense. If your computer is connected to your LCD via HDMI cable then you should be good. Just extend your desktop to the second monitor. Drag Windows Media Player over to the second monitor and hit play. Anything displayed on your laptop can be moved to your second monitor.
