Editorial Review :

For consumers who want an HDTV that keeps pace with fast-action movies, sports, and game play, Sony BRAVIA V-Series Flat Panel HDTVs combine Full HD 1080p performance and Motionflow 120Hz technology for an amazing viewing experience. Motionflow 120Hz takes both high-definition and standard programming a step further by increasing sharpness and detail in fast-moving images for more fluid, natural motion. In addition, BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs use proprietary Image Blur Reduction technology to further enhance the picture for even better performance. The HDTVs also feature BRAVIA Engine 2 technology, which uses exclusive Sony algorithms to reduce visual noise and sharpen and enhance an already-striking dynamic contrast ratio. Additionally, they include seven versatile HD connections to ensure you get impressive image quality from all your HD components. Take advantage of four HDMI inputs, component and composite inputs, and a PC input, as well as a USB input that lets you play audio files from USB storage devices, or connect a compatible camera to your HDTV for a quick and easy slide show. Sony knows your home theater set-up doesn't stop with your HDTV, which is why the BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs are compatible with BRAVIA Link Modules -- including the BRAVIA Wireless Link, BRAVIA DVD Link, and BRAVIA Input Link Modules (all sold separately). The HDTVs also support BRAVIA SyncTM technology so you can control all of your compatible devices with a single remote. And all BRAVIA HDTVs exceed ENERGY STAR 3.0 requirements for in-use and stand-by power consumption, meaning you don't need a lot of power to get a lot of performance.

This TV has very serious flaws! Sony is unresponsive!

I wanted to post my thoughts here to inform potential buyers and also to beg Sony to do the right thing and stand behind their products. Even if it's one of their lower end models, $1,000+ is still a significant amount of money to pay for something that doesn't work properly.

I personally own the 52 inch model of this set (KDL-52v5100), but have used the other size models as well. My comments here pertain to issues that apparently plague the entire Sony Bravia V and S series and have NOT been addressed by the latest firmware update available as of this date. The bang for the buck on this TV would be great, if not for these issues. The worst part of it is that Sony has seemingly been completely silent on the issues and has so far refused to acknowledge or do anything about it. If Sony would just address these issues, my rating would increase significantly. I've been a lifelong Sony customer, but at this point I cannot imagine buying or recommending another Sony product if this is how they support their products. I'm really hoping they come through and address this appropriately and restore my faith in the Sony brand.

While some common LCD problems, such as clouding and flashlighting do affect some other owners, here is a summary of the two major problems I have personally experienced with these Sony TVs:

1. Visual Problem (Red Flashing) - In some programs, red items in the scene will flash as though someone is boosting the color saturation momentarily. You can see this color shift in faces, but also in other objects. This happens on all inputs and with many TV shows, movies, etc. I see it a lot in the set background of The Daily Show. There is a whole lot of information about this issue on avsforums, various youtube videos, etc. Many owners have had multiple service visits and exchanged TVs, without resolving the problem. There is simply no way that Sony does not know how to reproduce it.

2. Audio Problems - There are frequent audio dropouts. The sound will cutout and won't come back until the channel is changed or TV power is cycled. Additionally, when the TV volume is very low (1 to 10), there is significant hiss and noise which make the program audio nearly unintelligible. Late night quiet viewing is very problematic due to this. There is also a loud pop whenever the display resolution changes using HDMI.

I could learn to live with the audio issues, but the Red Flashing issue is serious and very distracting. I am seriously hoping that Sony can and will do the right thing and release a firmware fix for this as it very much seems to be a video processing bug which affects all of their Bravia Engine 2 sets. If Sony won't resolve this, then I plan to fight them tooth and nail while under warranty as these are clearly design and/or manufacturing defects. I've heard some people try to claim that this is the price to pay for buying one of the "value" models and it's par for the course. That is pure nonsense! These are NOT simply the quality issues that one might expect, related to contrast ratios, color accuracy, etc. These are serious flaws!

Anyway....hope this information helps potential buyers make a more informed decision. I welcome any comments or feedback!

Dare to Dream!

The 52V5100 was everything I hoped for from an inexpensive, big-screen, HDTV.

Set up was no effort (open box, remove TV, plug in, turn on) but took 20-minutes to find all of the available channels. The 52V5100 found more than I expected. Not only did it bring in the analogue cable TV channels (I haven't upgraded yet) but also the 50 or so, over the air, digital channels (in the Philadelphia PA area). Therefore, watching analogue cable looked bad on the big screen but there were also all of the local HDTV channels. Watching football on Fox was in HD and much, much better than the regular cable version.

Once the channels were in it was time to be judgmental. My last HDTV was a 32-inch LG and I spent two weeks trying to get the colors the way I wanted them. The 52V5100 was perfect out of the box. Blacks look ideal in programming however some people's jet-black hair lacked definition (too black?). Picture quality looked excellent. No blurring during a football game. Colors looked perfect. Images look good even at angles.

First video test was a standard DVD using an up-scaling DVD player and the images looked very good to me. No blurring through action sequences. Two people said that "King Kong" looked fake. I don't know if that was the movie itself or the player leaving out some detail.

Negatives:
No picture in picture (get what you pay for).
Remote is nothing to be excited about. It's a little thin with a rounded bottom. It doesn't have the Sony "return button" that goes back to the last entered channel while channel surfing. It could be more intuitive by having the primary buttons in the middle. I've had worse remotes (like Comcast's).
Monitor's HDMI slots are mostly on the side of the TV, with only one located on the back.
Sound is average.

Definitely would recommend. Price paid at local Mom/Pop TV shop in January 2010 was: $1,199

Do NOT expect consistent picture quality and beware of contrast issues!

Apparently a firmware update will not resolve an issue with the contrast automatically shifting depending on the types of colors being displayed. Whenever there are bright blue/red backgrounds on the screen, the contrast is constantly going up and down, even after disabling the Advanced Contrast Enhancement "feature". Others elsewhere online and on Amazon have complained that service technicians that Sony sends will try to replace the board inside the TV, but it won't help.

Normally I'm not too picky about minor things like Advance Contrast Enhancements not working well and needing to be disabled, but even when I turn that feature off, it remains really annoying when watching shows with bright colors and talking heads (pretty much all news shows, pre-game shows, and Daily Show/Colbert).

Unacceptable. I bought this from a big box retailer (with that big yellow tag logo), and unfortunately, I doubt there's much they would do for me considering I've had the TV since Sept. I hope Sony will be able to work something out with me to provide a different model from a different series that's more reliable.

Excellent TV. Asked if it was reliable and about it's lifespan? Of course one doesn't know, but we're trusting that Sony will rate 5 stars in these areas as well.

Sony T.V.

We received our t.v. by Fed Ex in very good condition. We however thought that buying our t.v. from Amazon and what we read on the web site that there would be someone who would come and unpack the t.v. and check it out for us which did not happen. I asked the Fed Ex driver as I was siging off his paperwork if the t.v. worked knowing what his answer would be. Luckily my son was here visiting and we were able to unpack the huge box that was still banded to its pallet and sitting in the middle of our living room so we could check to make sure everything worked well. Needless to say my wife and I are very happy with the t.v. we purchased. Our previous old t.v. was also a sony and it lasted us many many years with no problems and I am hoping our new Sony t.v. will give us the same great service.

Awesome TV

Awesome, HUGE TV at a great price. I love this TV.. One really neat thing I noticed is that when the ambient light goes up or down in the room, the brightness of the display is dynamically adjusted accordingly. Like I said, awesome. Now if only it auto-muted commercials..

Great TV!

I did a lot of research prior to making this purchase and wanted a large TV that is reliable and looks good but that didn't empty my bank account. This is the TV I honed in on. It wasn't the newest or latest Sony yet had all the features you will need for years to come. I have had this TV for about a year now and have not had one issue with it. The picture is great (and I have never used the HD features). The sound is definitely good, but if you're a sound nerd you will probably want to have speakers connected. I don't use speakers because if I can hear clearly, then that's good enough for me. All in all, this is one of the best purchases I have made in a while.

52"lcd TV

A great product for a great price. The total price was even less than at Costco Wholesale. Arrived early, which was nice. The "white Glove" delivery was a big plus to me. The delivery company brought the TV in, unpacked it, checked to see that nothing was broken and hauled off the containers. All in all, a very pleasant experience. As added information, this is about my tenth purchase from Amazon.com and every one has been a very pleasant experience. About one year ago, we purchased a new PC for my Wife from Amazon.com. When it arrived, it would not boot up properly. Just displayed a RED screen, instead of the blue screen of death!! I e-mailed Amazon and they had a replacement on the way the next day, along with a shipping label to return the defective one. You can't ask for much better than that! I will not hesitate to shop with Amazon.com many times in the future!! GREAT company!!!!

Love this TV

First, I will say that I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 because of the fact that the picture quality is honestly not as good as the best LED local dimming TV on the market (not naming names). That said, for the price this is the best thing on the market in my opinion. Here's why I chose this TV instead of the seemingly endless others - you can definitely go into choice overload when trying to buy one of these.

1) I considered the ambient light in my room and how far from the TV my couch and other chairs are. My room has a lot of light from windows, so that eliminates the Samsung products, which have too much glare. With guests, viewers would be at the side so a good side angle was important. Also, I didn't want to go any bigger than 55" because of the size of the room and where the TV would be. Make sure to measure that but don't be too shy with the size because you will get used to a larger TV after a day or so.

2) I considered refresh rates and the type (plasma vs LCD). We have only owned LCD TVs, so I must say that I don't have any real reason to prefer LCDs now that plasma TVs handle burn-in better than they used to. But we have owned LCDs and the depth of the blacks has improved over the years, so we stuck with the LCD. The last TV I bought had a serious jerking problem when 1080p content had a quick pan to the side, which annoyed me. With that in mind, I wanted to go for the 240 Hz refresh rate in the hopes of avoiding that problem. If you can look at standard definition content on the TV in the store, do so. But, keep in mind that you are buying it for the high def performance.

3) Next was price. More expensive TVs have diminishing returns in my opinion because the price of these things are just dropping so dramatically. My target price was around $1500 to $1800. The local dimming LED LCD TVs that have decent processors are just way too expensive for me at this point (in the $4000 range). They do look the best, but you can get something that is really good for much less.

4) Features. I really wanted internet connectivity. I use Netflix and I wanted a TV that I could stream Netflix directly without using any intermediate equipment. This is a feature that is becoming popular, so more TVs have this.

After considering these, my search was narrowed to 3 choices - the Sony Bravia XBR, the Bravia Z-series, and the Bravia W-series. They also have an eco-friendly series that is useful if you have a habit of leaving the TV on when you aren't in the room, but I don't do that so I didn't really take a hard look at them. Sony has a very helpful website that lets you compare the different types to see exactly what the differences are. Armed with the knowledge of what the technical differences were, I went to a local store to take a look at them. I didn't find the W-series, so I can't comment on that one. I found one store that had the Z-series and the XBR right next to each other. The technical difference from the Sony website is that the XBR is capable of showing a larger percentage of the color spectrum. The price difference was $300. I honestly could not tell the difference when looking at them side-by-side. So, we happily purchased the Z-series and kept that $300.

TV set-up was a breeze. Controls are very intuitive. Happily streaming Netflix with no issues and using other cool internet features like radio streaming. We are really happy with this TV. The only problem was that it's so big that standard definition DVDs look pretty bad. So, we upgraded to a blu-ray player and were back to happy viewing once again.

Great Blu-Ray, not so good upscaling regular DVDs, tho...

I very much think the PQ on Blu-Ray discs is the best I've owned. I am disappointed to report, however, the PQ depends greatly on which specific Movie you are watching. For example, I put in ST:TMP (BD) and the quality is great... yet, The (BD) Wrath of Khan is great in many sections of the film, but not all. - Further, when I tried to watch my Babylon 5 (regular)DVD movie "In the Beginning", the quality was very poor! Star Wars 1: The Phantom Menace regular dvd was tolerable, but no where near as great looking as it was on my Sampo 42in. plasma regular def tv. --- So, I am very happy with the Blu-Ray PQ, but I am dreading having to now re-purchase all my favorite movies on Blu-Ray format... ouch, we are talking some real money here! And my fav Babylon 5 isn't even available on Blu-Ray and who knows if it ever will be. - So, bottom line... after an initial high due to the PQ on Blu-Ray discs, I am now all depressed and well and truly pissed at all the sales people who say upscaling is as good as Blu-Ray... Boy, are they full of it!

Rating :

Outstanding LCD. Beyond my expectations.

Pros: Superb picture quality, non-reflective screen, easy menu system.

Cons: None of any consequence. If using more than one HDMI connection there's only one on the back and the rest are on the side so the wires are visible unless using a port saver.

Summary: After comparing about a dozen high def televisions the Sony Bravia series stood out. We needed a non-reflective screen, which eliminated all plasma's and most Samsungs. But even compared to the Samsungs, this television was as good or better.

In the stores we couldn't tell any difference between the lower priced Bravia V and the XBR, which has the same "engine" as the Z. Through Amazon, we couldn't pass up a deal on the Z and it exceeds our expectations.

On its own, the sound is passable, but using 5.1 surround it's outstanding, although no credit to the television. Never having owned a flat screen before, we're pleased friends and family who do praise the picture quality.

Navigating the bells and whistles can be a bit confusing but it's pretty user friendly, and the manual is helpful.

Please refer to CNET's review of the XBR for a more technical description of this set (they're essentially the same in many respects) and other user reviews do a better job than me in this area.

Bottom line is that after two months it's still a pleasure, sometimes exciting to watch this set. HDTV pops, especially sports, and movies are sometimes breathtaking in their clarity and color representation.

240 Hz is worth the money

This is the third TV I have purchased from Amazon, and the third time I'm completely satisfied with my purchase. This TV in particular is the best to date though because of the speed in which the TV reacts to the feeds coming in. The picture moves so fast, it looks like a soap opera the way the camera moves to keep up with the motion. I cant really describe the picture clarity but it will freak you out when you see it, just make sure to adjust the motionflow to highest from the home menu.

BIG BLACK line after 14 months of use - Sorry NO warranty!

Oh NO, my beautiful SONY, true branded SONY... big black line down the screen. Oh the horror and dismay! I received this LCD TV in October 2008 as a 10 year anniversary present. We bought it from Amazon Warehouse Deals. I had to kick in some of my own money to up the brand to a Sony. After a little over 1 year, it developed a big black line down from the top to the bottom of the screen in the RED spectrum only. Green and Blue are fine. But when red shows up on the TV, a big black "burned out pixel line" shows very prominently. So I thought, well, there goes the $1400 we spent on this TV. NOT MY BEAUTIFUL SONY! But alas, after all I could do, no fixing the black line. The Sony authorized service folks told me the LCD panel would need to be replaced and that cost more than to just go buy a new TV. I also called Sony and they told me I would be on my own to get it repaired (again told that the cost of repairs is more than the cost of the TV brand new).

So, $1400 for 14 months of Sony TV use... amounts to $100 a month rental fee and Mother Earth and the trash dump takes one on the chin for another disposable piece of electronic wizardry.

Yes the TV still works, yes one could live with the black line down the TV side but for me every time I watch TV, that line stares at me and I think about nothing but "Dang, this was supposed to be a SONY!"

So, I cannot recommend this product even though for the 1 year it looked beautiful. Unless you buy an GIANT extended warranty, it is wicked to buy a TV and have it last only 1 to 3 years. My 1991 Sony Trinitron still works perfect. My how the brand has suffered over the years. So sad and disappointing.

On the plus side, now I have an excuse to go get a much bigger TV. Maybe this time I will try Samsung... with a MASSIVE extended warranty!

Waste Of Money

This television is the biggest piece of garbage. I paid 1800 dollars for this hunk of junk. I have only had it for 6 months and it already broke. I realized that there was a long vertical line along the edge. I called Sony and had a repair shop take it. It has been a month and I have yet to get my tv back due to a part that was backordered that has yet to ship. I was lied to by customer support telling me that the part should have been shipped last week but they don't know why. I am calling the BBB tomorrow if anyone knows where else to complain please let me know! I will never buy Sony again, everyone I know thta has a Samsung has had it for 2 and 3 years with no problems. Sony USED to be good, it sickens me that an international company like them can make such a crappy product.

Great TV... IF You Get The Right Manufacture Date

Go for the Sony BRAVIA XBR Series KDL-46XBR9 46-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV, Black - I wish I would have. The price difference is negligible now compared to when I purchased my 46Z. With the XBR9 you get better built in sound, better backlight technology, and the speakers are hidden - taking an inch of the height of the bezel/TV. Not to mention you might be less likely to get the flashlight effect and uneven backlight that I did.

Luckily in this case I didn't purchase from Amazon; (1) I had a special deal and (2)having to return 2 units to - you know who: 'blue' - was a hassle but getting three shipped from Amazon would have been more frustrating.

So here is my review for the 46" Z - the third one I tried.

The Bravia LCD TV Z series are far superior to others in similar class and price range. Sony has provided some fantastic features in this model; in fact, most of the specs are identical to the XBR9s!

With the Bravia Engine 3 processor and Motionflow 240Hz refresh rate, fast panning and action scenes are rendered smooth and clean. The exceptional contrast ratio and real time enhancer provide detail in the darkest shadows and deep blacks that rival plasma screens. Coupled with the ambient light sensor which automatically adjusts the contrast and brightness levels to deliver a great picture in any lighting.

The award-winning XROSS media bar is the easiest, most user-friendly menu navigation available on any TV. For a unit with so many features the XROSS is essential for finding content and configurations with ease. If you have ever used a PS3, the Bravia menus will be very familiar to you, If not, you needn't worry about navigating the TVs functions as XROSS is very intuitive and easy to master.

Sony's Bravia link makes one button viewing a reality (when using compatible Sony components); want to watch a DVD or Blu-Ray? Just insert the disc in a Sony player and the TV as well as A/V receiver will power on, tune to the correct input, and adjust the audio and screen settings for optimal movie viewing.

The included remote will automatically and seamlessly control all of your Bravia Link devices (Blu-Ray, DVD, Home theater surround, PS3, HD radio, and A/V receiver)

The Bravia's ethernet port is your doorway to unlimited entertainment and painless firmware updates. Provided with the Sony W, Z and XBR series is access to free and subscription based streaming content not available on other TVs.
-Free, [...] streaming radio without interruptions.
-Exclusive free Sony content including trailers, videos and music - currently featuring a collection of full length, high quality, classic music videos by Michael Jackson.
-Amazon video on demand service in HD. IMO much better than pay-per-view.
-Netflix streaming HD video- although doesn't currently support search and is limited to your "watch Instantly" queue.
-Youtube, eHow.com, epicurious.com, and several other built in widgets to access online content and rss feeds.

I have always been a Sony devotee, so I am a bit biased and stuck with this model (2 exchanges to get a defect free screen) when most buyers would have changed brands.

I must admit that I was rather particular in my expectations for the video quality. Most people would not even notice what I called defects in this model - I am a photographer and graphic designer so I have a trained eye for visual appearance and very picky about how a display performs. The actual problem that I encountered has been documented in several Sony and Samsung models but is common to all LCD screens as far as I can tell.

I spent a lot of time and energy unpacking, mounting, configuring, tweaking, contacting Sony support and ultimately repackaging 2 units for return/exchange. I guess the adage, third times' a charm applied in my case.

Works with Netflix, internet TV... kinda.

Make sure you have Fast DSL, or Cable ISP. I paid $300+ more for this model than Sony's lower line, so I could watch Netflix and other internet TV without connecting my laptop to it. Well, either this tv or my dsl is not fast enough, because it will pause every few minutes for the download to catch up before continuing with the video. Sometimes this causes the sound and video to run out-of-sync.

The internet TV is limited to what sony allows. Getting the most recent update will get you the most options. I found most of the offerings (95%) were not very good, and would never watch again. I pretty much only watch Netflix. Netflix only allows some movies to download, after you put it in the instant download cue.

A disappointed experiement

After long search I settled for this. What a Great LCD

This was a great purchase and I would and have recommended this product to others. So far they are also very pleased with the unit. Most of the people I know also own a PS3 which allows you to control a the (ps3) blue ray player using the Bravia sync function. I only went with 4 stars b/c I've had Sony firmware revisions for TV that would randomly reboot the TV while in use. This is really more a reflection on Sony as a whole an not this particular model. I've hears/read of others doing the same. Over all the picture quality is fantastic. I have yet to see any blurring effects so far (owend for approx 5 months now) and this Z line is mainly the same guts as Sony's top of the line XBRs. I'm hoping to buy another one soon b/c i can't handle not watching TV on this screen when in my other rooms.

This is a great TV. The picture quality is great right out of the box and even better after some adjustments. The low profile design, while not quite as slim as the newest offerings from Samsung, is still very slim without paying a huge premium. This TV has a bigger screen than my previous 42" Panasonic plasma but actually feels smaller in the room. The TV works well with my other Bravia components.
CONS: This TV didn't get 5 stars mainly for nitpicky reasons. First, while the Amazon VOD feature is great, I don't really see the point of the sluggish widgets. I'm not really sure that the online features are worth the price premium. The TV's sound, while OK, is not great. There is only one HDMI jack on the back, the rest are on the side. While this is convenient, it can be ugly. Finally, this TV will not allow the Sony Soundbars to mount on the stand. Soundbars will mount to the W Series and XBR Series but not Z Series.
Overall though, despite these minor flaws, I highly recommend this TV.

Question : Sony LCD TV: what's the difference between L/M/NL series? What's BRAVIA Engine 2 Technology and 1080/60i?
Does 1080/60i mean the TV has 1080p resolution?Any difference between a Sony LCD TV with and without BRAVIA Engine 2 Technology?Where are Sony LCD TVs made? Many thanks and Merry Christmas!

Answer:
Does 1080/60i mean the TV has 1080p resolution?A:Not really, 1080/60i is Interlaced. 1080p is progressive Therefore I think it's better, you'll get a better picture. The difference between L/M/NL series?Well, the prices the different and according to what I saw on sonystyle Canada website, that they're pretty low in the Series. I don't think they're such great TV's. If you're going to get a BRAVIA, get a High-End BRAVIA, those are worth the money. But, I am sure you can't go wrong if you find a good deal on one these suckers from these these low-end series.I'm not really sure where BRAVIA's are made, I think they're made in Malaysia or Korea or China. The BRAVIA Engine 2 is something they use to push they're High-End models and supposedly offer better picture.

Question : How much would it cost to repair the LCD panel for a Sony LCD TV?
The bottom right hand corner of my Sony LCD TV (Bravia) cracked suddenly while I was watching TV. The display was distorted from the bottom right hand corner to the top. Actually I wonder if this could be repaired afterall.

Answer:
Warning: This is a warning you are not gonna get from the dealers or the manufactures. LCDs have very fragile, very breakable PLASTIC screens. Screens because there are two. The "inner" screen of my 7 mos. old Sony Bravia 42" is broken. Broken by a 34 lb., 3year old throwing an empty plastic cup. The screens are plastic because they can be and it prevents the screen from being reflective. It also makes them CHEAPER to make. No warranty, no repair. If you have children or children visit, do not buy LCDs.I believe mine was defective and an impact that should not have broken it did break it. Try proving THAT! But why did the inner screen break instead of the outer?Sony would have none of that and that really thrilled Best Buy.Sony quoting $2300 to fix a TV I bought for $2000. I believe you. I believe that they are subject to break easier than normal but we cannot prove it.I went and bougth a plasma yesterday.

Question : I was planning to buy a Sony LCD TV, but some body is suggesting that Sharp is better. Pls help, I am confused?
I prefer to buy 26 inch LCD TV.

Answer:
First, they are FULL of IT....Second, so are they....Third, This is YOUR TV...not theirs. YOU BUY WHAT YOU WANT TO BUY...not what your neighbor suggests...Fourth....you can always ask ME, and I'll tell you MY experience. And as far as I'm concerned, you were right on target, before these "Friends" stuck their nose in YOUR BUSINESS."Oooooh, I've got a piece of Crap, and you should get one too. Join me in my misery when it breaks" That's what they are REALLY saying.Sharp is better, Samsung is better...Hmmph!

Question : Which of the two are better LCD TV manufacturers-- Sony or Samsung?
I am looking to buy a Full HD LCD TV and I have checked out the 32 inch LCD in Sony KLV32W400 and Samsung 550 series.Which of the two brands is good. Also, I was told by the salesperson that there is not much difference in HD (780 resolution) and the Full HD (1080), when it comes to buying a TV below 37 inches. It only matters in TVs 40 inches and above.

Answer:
Personally i would go for the samsung one. I have both the sony and the samsung one and i like the samsung one just that little bit more.

Question : What is the blue spot in my Sony LCD TV?
I have a big blue blog in the middle of my Sony Grand Wega LCD tv.

Answer:

Question : I have a 52 inch Sony Bravia LCD TV that is not working. What should I do with it?
I had a technician look at it, and the estimate to fix it was more than most new TVs cost. Sony actually declined to fix the problem, and just sent me a brand new TV instead. The people that delivered the new tv would not take the old one. What should I do with this one?

Answer:
Most cities have particular days or locations where they will accept electronics for recycling. Give them a call and figure out when or where that is and turn the TV over to them.
