Sony Bravia L-Series HDTVs provide vivid 720p resolution and dynamic contrast ratios of 13,000:1 (the 26-inch model) and 13,000:1 (for 32-inch model), with several versatile sizes perfect for the budget-conscious consumer or anyone wanting an HDTV that works well in the bedroom, kitchen, or office. Bravia L-Series HDTVs have a wealth of HD connections, including three HDMI inputs. Each HDMI input transmits uncompressed digital video and multi-channel digital audio on a single cable, so you can expand your home theater system without a lot of messy wires. Also included is a PC input that lets you use your HDTV as a computer monitor. If you need to streamline your HD components further, the Bravia L-Series HDTVs feature Bravia Sync technology and are compatible with optional Bravia Link Modules such as the Bravia Wireless Link, which wirelessly streams HD video and audio from your A/V equipment to your HDTV from up to 65 feet away. You might expect that more features mean more power consumption, but Bravia L-Series HDTVs include a Dynamic Backlight Control which automatically controls overall image brightness to help the TV exceed ENERGY STAR 3.0 standards.

GREAT little TV
This is the third Sony TV I purchased. It's for a small spare bedroom and it's a perfect size for watching TV from bed. My only issue is scrolling through my "favorite" channels that I programmed, is a bit cumbersome. My old TV had a special button that would just scroll through the 10 channels that I added as favorites. On the Sony I have to hit the favorite button then use the down button to scroll to the next channel I want to view then hit select. Other than that it's a great TV with great sound and picture. After 4 months of using it I am still very happy with the purchase.

Finally a TV without problems
I looked around amazon for so long looking for a good TV for a good price and good customer reviews. This has all three, I got it for my GF and everything worked after I returned the Vizio I bought.

Well above average, with notable limitations
(Revised 2/21/2010: Sorry, folks, the Red push is just too much for the mrs and me. I'm attempting to return this set today, as further viewing with all that red and anemic blue is simply too annoying and can't be corrected. If you don't mind this -- to me -- serious problem, it's your choice. But surely SONY should be able to do better than this.) Purchased from eDirect before I found Amazon's listing. I was swayed by all the 5-star reviews at Amazon (nowadays, as viewed in showroom setups, there's no way to judge image quality). The mosquito noise seen in showrooms appears in my living room as well, though it's not as prominent as on other LCD's. As for comments about "great color", I'm not sure what that oft-used phrase is supposed to mean; this tv is deficient in Blue and has a 25% Red push that glows like neon and often bleeds like the reds on dirt-cheap store brand CRT's. The SONY at least has RGB adjustments, although RGB Gain can only be reduced, not increased -- a really odd design. In one picture mode, Red is pushed 34%, which looks bizarre but which apparently appeals to "great color" enthusiasts. Sadly, SONY doesn't provide color Y-level controls, not even in the miniscule service menu. In Cinema/Warm Mode the grayscale RGB is admirably flat except for a typically elevated Blue "leg" from 40-IRE on down; most LCD's have such grayscales, ostensibly to make blacks look darker (actually, it just makes blacks look blue, not black. The value R16G16B16 (digital black) is a color rarely seen on HDTV's). After some drastic and very tricky RGB adjustments with help from a colorimeter and HCFR software, blacks looked more neutral and the Red push was made at least tolerable, but high-red gamma suffered somewhat. At least it kept most skin tones from looking like terminal cases of third-degree burn, although fair-skinned people often have an unsightly hot-pink tint. The overall image is suitably contrasty and sharp, and SD sources look much cleaner than with most LCD's. With HD and SD, there's some noisy moire in fine-grained objects like sequinned gowns and heavy wool coats, and shimmer when very high-contrast objects move. But those effects are common on many LCDs. Low-IRE gamma is a bit aggressive, making some darks look rather inky, especially with BluRay; thankfully there's a backlight control that helps a bit. Motion is mostly handled well, even without 120-hz gimmicks (which don't work anyway, because refresh rate isn't the source of LCD motion blur). Turn off noise reduction, which adds its own artifacts and makes motion blur worse. Thankfully I haven't seen judder or stutter so far, but I saw a mild case of upscaling jaggies. With a pristine image source, the overall picture is better than average and looks quite sharp and snappy, without phony edge enhancement. I measured the real-world contrast at around 2100:1, an impressive figure, with excellent darks and crisp whites: black and white movies play nicely. Less perfect sources (low contrast, noisy, low-density scenes in fog, heavy rain, etc.) just look smeared and murky -- this is digital video's fault, not SONY's. BluRay looks very punchy and sharp, though BR compression artifacts are easy to spot. As far as a generally cleaner image is concerned, SD-DVD looks much better on this set than on other 26-inchers I've seen. At this size, the difference between 720 lines and 1080 couldn't be seen, even with a 37" 1080p sitting beside it. If your BluRay player outputs 720i or 720p, set it that way; HD-DVD downscaling doesn't play well here. The tuner is fairly fast; channel cruising is a bit slow, but I've seen much worse. Setup instructions warn that channel scanning takes 50 minutes; my scan found 100-plus cable stations in 12 minutes. Audio ain't great, but it's cleaner and louder than averege and works well from its coax output (but no headphone jack!). Viewing angle is narrow, about 15 degrees either side, a tad wider than some others. Overall I'd say it's an above-average LCD, aided by limited RGB controls but marred mostly by annoying Reds and absent the full-featured CIE adjustments found on some sets. It nicely replaces the average low-quality generic 20" or 24" CRT. But if your old, higher-end smallish CRT still works well and can be calibrated, stick with the tube.

Very happy with this TV
Amazon had a great price and it arrived super fast. Once I got through the headaches of getting the cable remote set up (not the TV's fault!), this has been a no hassle, great performance TV. It's my first widescreen/flat panel, replacing a 10-year-old dependable Panasonic which I hated to part with at first. But WOW it is super having this lightweight replacement and totally awesome picture. The size is perfect for viewing in my 13 x 19 living room. When it's not on it doesn't stick out like a big huge piece of furniture either, it sort of blends in which I like since it sits on a bookcase/entertainment console and not behind doors in an armoire. I've had the Sony about 6 months now and I'm very pleased with it.

Worked great for one year
This television delivered exactly what I wanted it to for just over one year and then the screen went schizo on me. I didn't get the extended warranty, because it was bought for low-usage (bedroom). It wasn't beat-up like some other people's televisions. Now Sony is telling me that I have to shake it off and get it fixed on my own buck. I guess I should have used it harder so it broke a couple of weeks ago, hunh? Sony used to be a company that set the bar for electronics and now...I just can't justify ever purchasing a product from them ever again. Extended warranty? I shouldn't have to purchase an extended warranty to cover something like this after just a year of minimal use. Don't buy this TV and don't buy anything Sony ever.

Review of Sony Bravia TV
I'm impressed with the TV to date. I've used the TV for approx. two weeks and it's impressive. It's a 720, but the clarity of the picture is excellent. Need to adjust the "sound" occasionally, probably as a result of the various signals. I'm hoping "Tech support" will not be needed. Sony produces excellent televisions and I recommend this model.

Great TV but early LCD Failure
I bought the unit direct from SONYSTYLE for $2200.00 in Jan 2009. It had an 18 month warranty and I bought a 4-year extended warranty ($200)from SONY. Good thing to. The main digital circuit board and LDC panal failed at 17 months 20 days, just before warranty expired. SONY has been very responsive for service and is replacing the entire unit with a KDL40XBR9(refurbished) unit under warranty. SONY no longer offers the KDL40XBR7 set except as a refurbished unit for $1350. I'm otherwise very pleased with the set except for the major component failure at 18 months. The Amazon price is a good deal, but try to get an extended warranty from a reputable source. The replacement unit (KDL40XBR9) is a better unit with faster refresh rate (240Hz vs. 120Hz for the XBR7).
The replacement KDL40XBR9(refurbished) unit has performed excellantly. Very pleased with it to date.

very disappointed
I purchased the SONY BRAVIA XBR KDL-40XBR4 40" IN Dec. 2007, for $1899.98 three weeks ago the TV went totally black, the had been no surge and the TV is on its own power line; I called an authorized service center and was told that SONY has been having a problem with this size TV, if I wanted it fixed it would cost $1200 plus service charge, according to the service center it is a light on the panel, however, unlike other HD TVs you cannot just buy the light you have to replace the whole panel. This TV was over $2600 when new, 900 bucks is a steal! I always tend to buy the best TVs you can get about 10 months after they come out and you can really save. This one is no dissappointment.

Stunning!!
I researched the LCD TV arena extensively and Sony kept coming up as the "Top Dog". I found the Sony KDL-46XBR9 on sale from Crutchfield for $999.00 delivered and jumped on it. The set-up was as quick as 1-2-3. The picture? Wow!!! I was blown away. Sound quality could be better but overall this TV can't be beat for the price.

Customer Review :
Great Set !
I have been eyeing this set for about a year, now was the right time to pull the trigger. The price is about as low as its going to get before this set disappears. I decided to buy it locally after studying all the options, I wanted it delivered without hassle and in home 4 year extended warranty just in case. I got the lowest price online matched at a great store here in IL. Worth paying tax for the peace of mind. I also got a free Blu Ray player with it. I think if you have the option of buying a set locally you should with item like a large TV no offense to anyone who bought online. I almost did. I love Amazom.
Now on to the TV itself, what a great set the picture quality is amazing, with so many options you can get dizzy playing with them all. I just can't say enough how good this set looks. This is my first LCD TV. I had a 34 inch XBR HDTV tube what a huge difference. This set has every option besides WiFi. The remote is easy to use and very responsive. It controls my DVR, AVR, Blu Ray player. It has codes for just about all the brands of equipment you might have in your home theater. It lights up a nice shade of blue if you are in the dark at a push of button. I found that it handles Standard def TV ok, not as bad as some have said, but certainly not wonderfully. I won't be watching too much standard def after viewing high def. It's just hard to go back, it was already that way the last few years on my 34 XBR as it is. I found the off angle viewing better than expected, but like any LCD once you hit the 45 degree or more angle the color starts to shift and fade. still not nearly as bad as it used to be. I found this set not as bad as the Sammies for off angle. I have a desk about 35 to 40 degrees off angle which I like to sit at and watch and it looks very good.
I have the TV hooked up to a Comcast HD DVR, Sony Blu Ray player, and Yamaha home theater receiver. Plus I have xbox 360, PS3, and Wii all hooked up. This set is great for gaming. Each input on each unit is set up and the tv remembers all the settings for each item. I have not had any problems with slow down or artifacing once I tweaked each input for the specific system. This TV handles everything I can throw at it. Even the Wii looks good with ED def with component cables. I am very happy with this TV so far, I have owned it a few days granted, So I will revisit this review in a few months with an update.
In closing I would say now is the time to buy this TV, great price at this point. I looked at many other TVs I did not like as much, Edgelit LED, not as uniform a picture with other problems. Plasma too heavy, not as long a life span, worries about burn in and image retention with so many video games that I own. I looked at other brands, Samsung so many complaints with reliablity, and poor customer service, inputs that just die after a few weeks. Sony just seemed to be the overall leader for less problems, reliability. LCD was the best choice for me. The whole clouding issue with LCD is not an issue for me, I just don't see it that much. If you have a chance to buy this set, at this price point IE sub $1500. Grab it up now, I would say bigger is better in this case, so if you have the extra money to go for the 52 version go for it. 46' is still a nice size for an avg room. I just was at my limit for spending. Great set! Go grab one now before they are gone.

Very pleased so far. The picture and sound are extremely good and the ease of set-up was a pleasant surprise.
Rating :
One of the best TVs without an LED array!
This TV is excellent! Very easy to use and setup.
Features on this TV are extensive but not exhaustive. The Nextflix and Amazon steaming are great but you can't edit the que from the TV. There are plenty of other added features that are nice as well. However, loading times are long on this model (not a fault of internet speed, steaming is HQ and smooth). The type of files you can send to this TV from your computer or USB are limited. Customer service said it would handle only MP3s and MPEGs. I tried experimenting with ACC, Flack, Vob, WMV, and Quicktime files with no luck.
Sound is pretty decent for standard speakers. Midrange is well pronounced making voices easy to hear, but treble and bass are diminished. Off-axis listening is less then desirable making listening in he next room hard.
Picture Quaility is very, very good. The best of witnessed under $2k right now. The 10bit color adds and extra pop to all images. Obviously it really shows on blu-ray but I think it makes all shows a little better. Further on that matter, this TV handles SD broadcasts very well. The TVs lighting is well balanced but it definitely falls short on decent blacks when you're watching HD. When I say this I am compairing it to all TVs but for fluorescent LCDs it's pretty darn good. One thing in particular with this model I noticed is that the corners are sometimes washed out when high backlighting is used. I think this must be how the tubes are arranged.
Glare is not as pronounced as i would have thought with the glossy screen. Off-angle viewing is excellent. I have a desk parked perpendicular to the screen and I can turn my head and see everything very clearly. I mean it's not as sharp but it's hard to notice a difference on TV broadcasts. Nothing I would complain about.
Overall, highly recomended. In my opinion, this is the best TV in this price range. A full array of LEDs is the only way this TV could be better.

Sony KDL46Z5100
I bought the Sony KDL46Z5100 after doing a fair amount of research and having already owned a Sony 46" XBR4 which has incredible picture quality at 120Hz. The unit comes packaged well from Sony and the pedestal is easily installed on the bottom of the unit. This TV is much lighter than the XBR4 and I was able to tackle assembly by myself. It was so easy to set this TV up and I hooked it up to an Onkyo Surround Sound system and Sony Blu-Ray BDP-N460 (this is the unit that lets you connect to the internet through your LAN) player. Within minutes I was up and running with NetFlix watching a movie. The color on this TV is fantastic. I watched a few games to see the difference that 240Hz makes - and it makes a huge difference and you can also change the settings on the TV. Everything is crystal clear and super sharp and there is no blurring that I could notice on fast moving images! There are plenty of jacks on this unit including the nice feature of a LAN Ethernet connection. This is nice if you don't have the capabilities of hooking up to the internet through a Blu-Ray player that has the network features. As part of the setup on the TV you are asked if you want to connect to the home network.
There is a firmware download available for this TV from the Sony website. You can download the 30MB file to your computer and copy it on a USB flashdrive. Although I didn't see any reason to do the firmware upgrade I decided to do it anyway. I downloaded the file from the Sony support site on the Internet and then copied the file to a Sony MicroVault USB flash drive and then popped it in the back of the TV. Almost immediately, the TV recognized the file and provided step by step instructions for the upgrade. It took a total of about 3 minutes to load the file and the TV went on and off about three times with warning screens not to be concerned about the turning on and off. After that, the TV stated the upgrade was done and I was back to watching a great picture. I was told that Sony will also send you the firmware upgrade on a USB device if you don't have a USB drive.
The remote was larger than I expected and has every button imaginable on it. It has a lighted feature which I thought was great so you could see the buttons in dim light. Because the TV is large, if you intend on using the pedestal with the TV, it is recommended that you secure the TV to the stand or wall. I put straps around the base to secure it to the stand that supports the weight of the TV so that children don't accidentally tip the TV over. I bought a set of straps (Velcro with Buckle) at Home Depot for about $5 which I used on another LCD TV with great results. In fact, they worked great and better than some other products advertised over the Internet. They secured the TV firmly in place to avoid any tip overs.
The TV looks great in the gloss piano black and is slimmer than the older model Sony LCD TV's. I hope to have the TV for a long time.

Sony Bravia Z KDL-46Z5100 46" LCD TV
After much research and debate, we decided to purchase the Sony Bravia Z KDL-46Z5100 46" 240 HZ LCD TV through Amazon. We went with Vann's. The TV arrived several days ahead of schedule (Vann's did their part) but we ended up having to wait an additional day for delivery because the Fed Ex driver obviously did not want to deliver this big, bulky box on a wet, extremely windy, stormy day. I waited home all day the day the TV was to be delivered because of the signature requirement for the delivery, only to find at the very end of the day that the driver had arrived at 8:30 that morning, had failed to ring the front door bell and had instead gone to a garage side door (with no bell) and left an attempted delivery notice which proceeded to blow off the door and fortunately land on the porch and stick in the wet snowy slush. If you could see our house you would understand that this choice was an obvious choice to avoid delivery (down a steep driveway and off to the side of the garage when the driver easily could have walked from his truck staight to the front door). I called to reschedule delivery for the next day but was unable to do so because the postage they use with the "free shipping" does not allow you to schedule a delivery time. The following day thinking that they would deliver around the same time of day I was prepared for them in the early AM with a note on the side entrance instucting them to use the front door and to please ring the bell. I again waited the entire day, the TV finally arrived at the very end of the day. Upon arrival, the box was in bad shape, very dirty, torn and water damaged. My heart sank but upon opening the box I discovered that there was a box within a box and the original packing box was in perfect condition! Yeah! I wasted two work days waiting for the "free shipment" so my advise would be to pay the shipping cost for an upgrade so that you can schedule your shipment delivery time unless you or someone else is home anyway. My lost time was worth much more than the added cost of shipping. Another thing they don't tell you is that Fed Ex and UPS are not supposed to allow you to open a package until you have signed for it. You are told to inspect the package BEFORE you sign, checking for obvious damage and to refuse the shipment if you feel that it is damaged. I got a good driver who bent the rules for me because the box was in such poor condition but you can't count on getting one of the "nice" guys. If I had refused delivery based on the exterior condition of the box, I would have sent back a perfectly good TV and I would have been without my new set for a much longer period of time. That all having been said, we LOVE the TV! It was a great choice. We were planning to buy a sound system for it but feel that we do not need it. The sound is great. We've been watching the Winter Olympics this week and I have to say, this TV is the next best thing to being in Vancouver! And..we're much warmer! We were worried that the 46" size would be too large for our very small cozy den but decided to go with it anyway because everyone told us "bigger is better." Absolutely correct! Because it is so thin, it actually takes up much less space in the room than our older model Sony 27" TV did. The room looks larger and roomier! And we have our own personal movie theater. The colors are vibrant and great, the blacks are good and there is no blurring. We hooked it up ourselves (just us girls) using a Mediabridge Ultra Series HDMI cable that we also ordered from Amazon for $10.00. Much cheaper than the $100.00 Monster cable that we originally purchased and returned to Best Buy. The hookup was simple and the picture is great! We definitely recommend this TV! A great set for the price.

Questions & Answers
Question : I can get a good deal on a 740 37 inch Sony LCD TV. If all stations start broadcasting in 1080 will my TV ?
in 740 still look good?
Answer:
Im guessing by 740 you mean 720p? if so no worries because no one will go exclusive 1080p for a long time to come. As for a good deal on a sony, I'd save some more cash and buy something better like a Samsung

Question : I have a 32 inch sony lcd tv, would a blu-ray be good for this size screen?
I want to get a blu ray player, but my tv is only 32 inches, its a lcd sony, would this be a good tv with a blu ray player? Its a 720p tv
Answer:
The question I have for you is, what is the resolution of the TV? 32 inches is a pretty good sized TV, and if the TV was capable of a high resolution (1080p would be the ideal) then Blu-Ray would look very nice on it. Another thing to think of is, what kind of audio system you have, since Blu-Ray has some incredible audio. If you have a nice surround-sound system, and a TV with a good resolution, then I think it would be well worth it. I have a 42" tv with Blu-ray and I absolutly love it, will never buy a standard DVD again.Just read that it is a 720p...at that resolution, it will certainly be nice, just not as nice as the 1080p. keep in mind, when you see a Blu-Ray display at a store, they are using a top of the line TV at 1080p. I would suggest that if you truly want to buy one, go to a retailer who has a forgiving return policy....buy it, try it, and if you aren't completly happy with it, return it. Also, keep in mind some scientists believe that we can't truly see the difference between 720p and 1080p. Hope this helps...good luck and if you buy it...enjoy!!!

Question : how do i use Freeview in my Sony LCD TV?
i bought a 32" sony bravia tv. it says it comes with freeview. i connected my regular antenna to it but it didn't show any channels. how do we tune it please? i used that antenna to watch all the standard five channels on my old tv. now how to receive the same channels on my new lcd channels through my antenna??
Answer:
Have you followed the "SEARCH FOR CHANNELS" procedure? You need a good quality signal, your existing one may not be good enough, or you may need a booster.http://www.freeview.co.uk/freeview/Help2

Question : how do i use 32" sony bravia lcd tv as my computer monitor?
Hi...i wanna get the 32" sony bravia lcd tv to use as monitor for my computer. What cables do i need to buy for that? Is the quality gonna be as same as using the regular computer monitors? Or is everything going to be pixelated? Can i watch videos from youtuves in fullscreen wihout compromising the quality? Any help would be greatly appreciated..thanks!
Answer:
Keep in mind most YouTube videos look pixilated even on regular small computer monitors. If the quality of the video is bad to begin with, it won't look good on an HDTV either.Anyway, the 32" Bravia LCD does make a nice computer monitor. As Rodger says, use a DVI-to-HDMI cable to connect your computer to it if your computer has DVI ports.I'm using my computer on a 52" Bravia LCD HDTV myself. The DVI-to-HDMI cable works very nicely in my setup.

Question : Why does the screen on my Sony LCD rear projection TV flicker?
Sometimes the screen on my Sony LCD rear projection TV will flicker. It won't go off or anything and it's mostly around the edges but it's pretty annoying. We called Sony and I don't think they knew what they were talking about. They said something about leaving the TV on the same channel for a few hours and that should take care of it. That doesn't do anything at all. It seems to be happening more and more now. We are thinking it could mean that we need to change the bulb. Is that a possibility? Thanks!
Answer:
Flicker around the edges? High possibility it being the bulb, if you had it for 1.5-3 years with out replacing it then it could very well be that. Also AC lines can cause a flicker at a certian frequency.

Question : My Sony Bravia LCD TV has developed a blurred image problem. How do I fix this?
TV model KDL32ML130. The TV has started to have a ghosting problem and all motion on the TV is blurred. As well, the TV has developed a orange tint and is darker than normal. I know that a piece of hardware is bad, my question is which piece do I need to replace to fix it? Is this the LCD going bad, a bad LCD driver board, or the video processing main unit board product number 1-874-195-12? All help would be greatly appreciated.
Answer:
You have to decide if the Blur follows people or if the Blur is stationary overall...Moves.....Video boardStationary...TCon or FPS board...Triple image....FPS board. TURN off your 120 Hz Auto Motion, because that is not supposed to be on all the time, only when the picture looks bad and it corrects it.

Answer:
Well, it could be the 120 Hz Frame doubler, if it is a 120 Hz model.Other than that, it would have to be the Video board.Check your menu....is it doubled too?? If so, it points to the Frame doubler.
