Dont look any further buy this model
I buy and sell tv's part time outside my day job. So over the last 10 years I have seen a large number of good and bad models. First I rate the following brands as my top 5 starting with the best at the top. Samsung, Hitachi, Soney, Toshibia, JVC. Now JVC can take a big jump to the top here and there with some of there price deals. Anyway I purchased the Toshibia. For the money, the features and the quality you can not go wrong. Did you know 2/3 service calls for lcd tv's are for Visio. Be aware also that 2/3 service calls for lcd tv's in ANY brand are for power related issues. This happens to any tv of any brand, so a review that says the power went out after x ammount of time is simply not a fair review. In fact to since I repair Tv's as well I can tell you that Power fluctuations such as "Browning effect" will ruin any tv no matter what brand you stick in your home. Anyway this TV model is one of the best out there. 120hz, great picture and fab HD. Did you know that Toshibia TV's upconvert regular analog signal? This is one of the few tvs that attempt to do this all the time. Most DVD HD or Blue ray players will do this , but this tv does that on your cable signal. To be fair almost all hd tvs will do 1080i signal. This is a great buy

Great TV!
I'm the type of person who does research before I make a large purchase; I go to a store and see products in person then I get on the Internet and read the reviews. That is why I am so happy with my new REGZA TV. The color is beautiful and, even though I don't have an HD receiver, the picture is very clear. It is also user friendly.

Research this dog on the net and DON'T BUY It!
I bought this tv from a retailer. 14 months later, the tv would not return to ready after a SHORT power outage. The yellow standby light just blinked three times over and over. The manual said this was normal and when it was ready to start it would go to a green light. No it wouldn't. Manual and Toshiba site said to hold the power button on the cabinet in for five seconds and it would reset it. This worked...twice. The Toshiba site said unplug it for an hour. This worked...once. Now at 18 months, a short power outage from a summer storm knocked it back to the yellow lights. After four days, it is still blinking yellow. I tried every trick I could find short of putting socks and shoes on it. I found this is a common problem with this model. The store will evaluate the problem for $189. The repair to the board that has gone south is $600 parts and labor. Again, I am not the only victim of this shoddy equipment. Toshiba basically told me they weren't concerned with it since it's out of warranty. So, research the model on the net and see for youself. If you have one of these, be scanning the ads for a new tv soon, it will fail. Toshiba says they won't order a recall since the model has been replaced with this new one you're looking at now. The new one has the same boards. $1300 dollars for 18 months service.

Great TV for the money
TOSHIBA 42RV535U LCD
I bought this TV from Amazon.com. The delivery company was great.
I got this TV about six months ago and it has been performing great since I installed it.
Since I purchased the Toshiba, I bought a Samsung 120Hz for another room. The Samsung certainly has a superior picture, but not for twice the price. If you're not hung-up on 120Hz, I think this is an equal. I think I like the user controls on the Toshiba better than the Samsung.
I dont't think you can go wrong with this TV...

WARNING!!! DO NOT BUY THIS TV!
These TVs will last as little as 8 months. I bought a 42 inch 720p from Amazon in April of 2008. Within 10 months, the TV developed a solid line down the left side - LCD panel was shot. Even with the TV under warranty, I had difficulties with Toshiba to even get them to send someone to my house to address the issue, terrible customer service! After almost two months and the inability of Toshiba to supply enough replacement parts to their service centers to meet demand (because so many customers LCDs were going bad) they finally did the right thing and got me this model as a replacement. That was in March of 2009. Now after only 11 months, the brand new TV will not even turn on. My warranty expired because it was a replacement and only lasted 1 year from the original purchase date of the first TV. If you think I'm over reacting, please google on ["Toshiba LCD" "Yellow LED" flashes 3 times]. The repair bill costs up to $800. Toshiba does not acknowledge that they have a quality issue with these TVs and refuses to help their victims. I believe there may be a class action suit in the works. And oh yeah, I bought a toshiba DVD player only 14 months ago, and it is already acting up. I will never buy another Toshiba product. DO NOT CONTINUE TO ENCOURAGE MANUFACTURERS to CONTINUE THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR by GIVING THEM YOUR MONEY!

Regza 1080p Full HD LCD
Customer Review :
Don't Buy At Any Price!
I don't recommend buying anything from Toshiba. It has been my experience that Toshiba produces a shabby product and treated me in a shabby way, here's why: On January 23, 2008 I purchased a REGZA 32HL67U32" LCD HDTV (predecessor to the current model)for $720. By the last week in March 2009, the main panel failed and I was told by the repair center that the replacement panel would cost $1,900.
I contacted Toshiba and I was told by a customer service supervisor that since the breakdown occurred 15 months after the purchase, they would pay 50% of the replacement part ($950), if I paid the other half, plus labor.
Their offer made no financial sense; first of all, why does a replacement part cost nearly 3 times the amount of the original TV? They had no answer to that question. Secondly, using their logic, they could ship me a new TV and save themselves $230!
It is clear that by using an artificially high replacement part value, they are dodging responsibility for the quality of their product. The TV is a total loss to me after such a short period of time.
I will never do business with Toshiba again!

Okay product until it broke, poor customer service!
We purchased our TV almost 1 year ago and at first LOVED it. It had good sound, a good picture, and was very user-friendly. But then...
It acted up starting about 6 months in. The video display would go black upon start up and we would have sound but no picture. The problem would correct itself when the TV was power-cycled. More recently, the TV picture went blank and never came back on. We called for a repair since the product was still under warranty and it's been more than a month since it broke and we still do not have a suitable fix!
Now they want to replace the display board - which costs more than the television itself! And...its going to take more than 3 weeks to get the part in and installed!
The broken TV may be a single case out of many good reviews, but the customer service I've been receiving has been horrible. To me its unacceptable that the TV has been out of service for more than a month and I'm still waiting. The good news is that the TV broke while under warranty!
I'd really watch the company you buy the TV from. They are ultimately honoring their warranty, but the customer service is poor and the timining is worse!

Great TV until it dies
I have the same problem many others are having with Toshiba.....Screen goes blank. After I turn it on I briefly see the picture 2 times and then nothing but sound. Many have been fortunate for this to happen before the warranty expires, I did not. Less than a month out of warranty and I now have a dead TV and I agree with the complaints about Toshiba's customer service....I really got the impression that they know this is a problem but really don't care. Save yourself the headache and the waste of money....DO NOT BUY A TOSHIBA!!!! At this point I can not even afford to fix it. It was truly a waste of $900.00

Can't beat it
I've had this TV for nearly a year now and I have absolutely no complaints, except that since I live in the boonies, I can't get the DirecTV HD Satellite so I can't take advantage of that feature. However, the picture is so much better than the one on my old Zenith 27" that I feel as if it is HDTV anyway. Easy setup, flawless performance, bright and sharp picture--and the prices are down now from what they were when I bought it last year. Compare it to the SONY, which has a similar picture quality and it's a no-brainer. Go Toshiba!

Getting This Next! I have the 720p and LOVE IT!
If I had a living room this is going in it. I have the 720p & the HD channels are incredible. Can't wait to upgrade & enjoy the 1080p!

Toshiba 52XF550U is a full-featured HD LCD TV that's practically all screen. This 52.0" (measured diagonally) model combines Toshiba's Super Narrow Bezel design with cutting-edge technology to deliver a beautiful picture in an equally beautiful package. With Full HD, there's no need to scale down a 1080 signal: Full HD creates the pinnacle in picture quality. ColorBurst technology expands the number of available colors and improves the color accuracy. This significantly improves both color purity and color saturation. The combination of ColorBurst and superior video processing creates colors that are more vibrant, more natural, and more enjoyable. The advanced Anti-Blur system virtually eliminates motion blur without decreasing image brightness, or adding flicker. Images are now crisp and clear regardless of image motion.StableSound audio technology eliminates the annoyance of normal program volume being followed immediately by extremely loud commercial messages or drastic volume fluctuations while changing channels.
Customer Review :
There will never be a "perfect" HDTV, but...
I have searched far and wide for the "perfect" LCD HDTV for at least 2 years, and there isn't one. If you think you've found one then do not go searching for Reviews -- and stay away from the heavily-active Forums that discuss these items because you will become discouraged.
The first problem is in knowing what to look for. The next is in knowing what to avoid. The third is figuring out if any of this matters to you, in your situation, for your specific needs.
This Toshiba 52" is the latest iteration of their top-line products. And if you're into minimalism, it's a stunner. The bezel is amazingly thin compared to other sets. Advantage? It allows you to fit a larger screen into your available space, if the conditions are right.
But, ah -- the catch! Next out will be Toshiba's super-light, super-thin sets that are 2" less thick. Can you wait yet another year? You'll never defat the "What's Next" Catch-22.
It has every major feature you could think of, but I won't go into the merits of these because you'll soon find that beauty and "merit" are in the eye of the beholder. If you want easy setup, this TV has it. HDMI? It has 3 inputs and one output. Nice Black Levels -- definitely, yes. Great color accuracy out-of-the-box -- yes... to my eyes. I'm sure a professional reviewer will find fault with this compared to the Pioneer Kuro excellent line of plasmas.
Like every other set, does it come from the factory over-tweaked? Yes. It will take some research to fine-tune the picture. The darn conrtrast and backlight were set at 100% -- which hurt my eyes terribly in a dark room. Is every LCD perfectly glare-free? -- not this one. The reflections of overhead lights are annoying (like reflections off Scotch "Magic Transparent Tape"), but softer than any Plasma or Glass-fronted screen I've seen. The speakers on this set are nearly invisible and perfectly adequate (much more so than my 37" Sharp).
If you insist on looking into the nitty-gritty, please note that -- at this time -- I've been unable to find any professional Reviews on this set. And it's been out there in limited quantities for a few months. Finding it locally may be difficult. Why? Because the guys in the know are snatching these up as fast as inventory comes into stock. My purchase from Beach Audio was very easy and they communicated very well. But they are, technically, not an authorized Reseller. Their Distributor and Amazon both are, and I've been reassured that Toshiba will not simply walk away from their Warranty.
UltimateAVMag.com is working on a professional Review, right now -- due out shortly. AVSForum has a raging online discussion that has most people very excited about this set -- and it has gone on for months with some great insights and advice (even tweaking tips on how to squeeze out the best picture) -- and no "This kills the deal!" discoveries, as happens on so many other seemingly worthwhile sets. These participants are not pansies. They'll eat your lunch when it comes to discussing esoterica about these sets that you never knew existed.
But beware! These Forum settings can destroy the unprepared or uneducated casual visitor by nitpicking the least-likely of all problems, and blowing it completely out of proportion to most viewers experiences. Sometimes, you'll wonder if these participants ever enjoy anything! Ahhh, the joys of fanaticism! Having said that, it is perhaps especially telling about this model that they have not found too many Achilles' Heels... yet. Not too many people actually own this set (I do). When they hit the big consumer stream, this may all change as newer sets rise to the occasion. You cannot stop progress.
When turned to no picture, my set displays "brighter" dark regions in every corner. Some guys find that unacceptable, but I've only ever seen a true black on a Pioneer plasma. And I've never noticed these regions while watching any video or TV images. If these types of revelations bother you -- DO NOT VISIT AVSFORUM!! Your enjoyment of ANY set may be doomed if you read these discussions too deeply. Or if you have a thin skin.
Biggest observation I can offer... If this is your first "big" HDTV, please beware -- the bigger you go, the worst your "normal" TV channels will look. Unless you invest in a Video Scaler (several thousands of dollars, although Gefen has one coming for HDTV that runs about $600) or an Audio-Video Receiver that includes an upscale HQV Processor (such as Onkyo's TX-SR875, at slightly over $1,000), you will NEVER improve regular programming by buying a fancier or larger set. Most homeowners not versed in resolution and scaling issues will be frustrated and angry about this. I think it will become the Number One misleading "thing they never mentioned in the store" -- where they probably only ever viewed demo discs of Blu-Ray movie clips.
You buy an HDTV for viewing HDTV content. NOT for improving SD or sub-par video or compressed cable source material. Blu-Ray movies will be so darned perfect, you may cancel your cable and FIOS and satellite movie bundles and decide to only rent Blu-Ray discs through great services such as Netflix. Local or piped-in HD stations will vary in quality. The good ones will knock your socks off -- but poor video sources are MADE WORSE by large and expensive HDTVs, just as they are by the cheap ones. A few of these do offer better video processors, but there is no easy source to look at, telling you which ones they are. That's where the Forums do help -- some of these guys rip their sets apart and tell you which processors they found inside. Remember I mentioned the word "fanaticism"??
This Toshiba is one of the best LCDs available, so far (at least, until the professional reviews come out telling us Early-Adopters that we're wrong). So stay tuned...

Very Impressed out of the Box
Just got this lcd last night and without even tweeking it yet I was very impressed by the color compare to the vizio 46 that I returned from costco.Comparing the two tv's is not an option. Now I can see real blacks and the color is so amazing. How much more if I tweek it, but i dont have time right now due to busy work but I know it will be better when i start tweeking it with my calibration software. Like I said, just right out of the box I am very impressed... Im glad I chose this TV...For so many months of studying the next HDTV for me. THis is the exact TV I really wanted.

Best LCD I've seen to date
I have to echo what's already been said here; the gloss of the screen is less than you'd find on a plasma but a little more than on the matte LCD's, though the only LCD sets that I think are actually comparable to this one are the higher-end Samsung and Sony panels, and they both have glossier screens than this Toshiba.
Black levels are stunning, especially for an LCD. Hi-definition sources such as Blu-ray discs are absolutely amazing on this set, the image has that 3D feel to it and the colors definitely pop, though you'll need to fix the settings to get things accurate and to make movies, especially hi-def movies, really shine.
Upscaled DVD from my PS3 looks mostly superb, though discs with poor source transfers can't be helped all that much.
Games from the PS3 look amazing as well, it's a huge upgrade from my old Sony 720p RPTV (LCoS), a KDF-46E2000, which was a damn nice set in its own right. The images, games and films are just a great deal sharper and have more of a life-like feel to them...the extra 6" of diagonal screen size doesn't hurt either.
If you start with the settings found at the following link and then adjust based on your room and preferences, you'll have a solid looking picture without much trouble at all. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=14269299#post14269299
This is a great set, well worth under $2500.

Annoying red pixel in the right of the screen
I wouldn't recommend any Toshiba lcd tv's. After a couple of months of use, a red pixel started to appear approximately 5 inches from the right panel, centered vertically. I called for support, and all they said that this was a "feature"; well, I call it a defect. I have a Sharp Aquos 32" about 4 years old and a Pioneer 43" plasma over 5 years old now, none of them have any problems. Stick with Sony, Sharp or Pioneer but stay away from Toshiba or you'll be stuck with their "features".

Toshiba 52" Masterpiece
This TV is a stunning LCD panel.
5:5 pulldown, great upconvert, small bezel, hdmi 1.3a for future...
I still can't believe how good it looks.
If I had to say the negatives...
Panel is in between a plasma and lcd as far as gloss (I think they call it new matt or somethign)... It does reflect some light not as bad as plasma but it does reflect.
Inputs in back are kind of in a bad place for wall mount
Unit is 6 inches thick --
Positives are many - great blacks, great sports, great games...
Color settings in service mode are great...
Price at under 2500 is a steal -- if you can find one...

One of the best LCD's available, but...
Terrific HD picture, but standard def is mediocre at best. Sound is good enough; fortunately, it does supply an optical-out delivering terrific digital audio to a stereo. Beware the Thinc Home Networking for connecting to a PC and displaying pictures and playing mp3's; it works great with Windows XP, but not Vista. Toshiba is "working on it" but wouldn't tell me when a firmware update will be available.
I would buy the TV again if I was in the market for LCD, but plasma still delivers a better picture. Especially in standard def.

Excellent TV
I purchased this Toshiba TV after considering similar Sony and Sharp versions. The 1080p picture from my Blu-ray DVD player is breathtaking. I get my HD via cable and the picture is remarkable. This set replaced a 42" LCD projection Sony WEGA set which I thought had a pretty decent picture- but nothing like the images on the Toshiba. Overall: 1080p images are spectacular, 1080i cable HD looks terrific; the 120 Hz virtually eliminates motion blur. The picture in picture is fun, as is the favorites browser. An added bonus for those so inclined-you can hook this TV to your home network and access music and picture files on PCs or Macs in your house. It takes a few moments for the picture to "draw" on the screen- they don't instantly appear. You can even set the TV up to check your email, and when you get a new email a message appears on the screen. The super-slim frame is possible because the speaker "bar" is hidden across the front bottom of the set. This is one of the things that could be better. I think the audio is a bit weak coming from the TV speaker- but if you listen through a home theater setup that won't be an issue. The remote can be used with other devices, and is backlit. While the TV does have 3 HDMI inputs, it "only" has 2 component and 2 composite. Depending on how many devices you are using, these may or may not be enough. I have been a Sony buyer and believer for a long time, but this Toshiba set is the real deal. I believe this set is due to be replaced soon with a newer model as I got mine on a close-out deal.

Undocumented incompatibility
Having owned this TV for 6 months now, I am unfortunately finding out an incompatibility with certain cable boxes. When I switch from my game console running at 1080i to the cable box input (both using HDMI), the screen will split into 4th's with the cable signal appearing in the top 2 quarters. The audio makes a loud popping noise. To correct this, I've been successful in switching from SD to HD channels and turning the TV on then off several times. A Toshiba authorized repair center tech confirmed Toshiba is aware of this issue and is not planning to address the issue. This TV has some bugs. As other reviewers have said, the HD picture is great, but the SD picture is pretty horrible. I've also found it very difficult to get the picture settings dialed in for optimal viewing. For the money you can get a much better TV.
Rating :
Terrific!
I read review upon review of this TV before I purchased. The two drawbacks that I read were 1) price and 2) green color in lieu of black. I purchased the 2007 model on closeout, and received $500 off, so the price of my TV was heavily mitigated (and I would recommend Video Only for this purchase, not only were the staff helpful and knowledgeable, but they did not push and offered discounts on accompanying merchandise like the wall mount and HDMI cables). The issue with the green tint/color on black simply does not exist on this set . As soon as I got the TV (I purchased the 46"), even before it was completely out of the box, I hooked up my standard DVD player and played scenes from movies like Star Trek, Transformers, The Matrix, Spiderman, Lord of The Rings, Serenity, and many other special effects movies and I can say that the black is VERY black and the picture is lifelike and wonderful!
The one oddity that I did find: For some reason the Video 2 jacks do not have the picture clarity of the Video 1 jacks with standard DVD players. The Video 2 jacks are on the side of the set, and therefore designed to use with gaming stations, so perhaps they are formatted differently or something else along those lines. The picture is still very good with a DVD on the Vid 2 jack, but it is better on Vid 1. I believe the set is a bit thicker than others, with the mount (swivel mount that extends) it sits about 7" from the wall, and the set does generate a bit of heat, but I believe this is common amongst most larger TVs.
I would heartily recommend this set if you want a nice LCD Flatscreen.

Unbelievable TV
I bought this TV a week ago and the picture is superb -- crisp and bright with great blacks! The 120Hz screen eliminates the problems with choppiness when fast action is on the screen.
The best feature on this TV is the audio pass-through. I do not own an audio/video receiver with HDMI so this feature has saved me some serious money.
Instead of plugging all of my outputs (video & audio) from my DVD player/Games consoles/Cable Box plug into my audio/video receiver, I use the TV inputs. I then run the optical cable from the TV to the receiver and ALL sound (analog & digital) now gets played through my home theater receiver instead of the 2 TV speakers. This works especially well with my HDMI cable box and Game consoles using component cables.

Toshiba 47HL167 47" Regza 1080p LCD HDTV
Customer Review :
Great picture, for the price!
I bought a Toshiba REGZA 47HL167 in April of 2008 (4 months ago) [...]. I waited a while before writing my review because I wanted to make sure the TV didn't die on me after a month of use. So far, I am pretty satisfied with the purchase. As some other reviews have stated, there is a slight color shift problem, however, it does not really bother me. I played with the color settings, and have found settings that satisfy me. However, I notice that some channels are more problematic than others (HGTV is way too red!).
When I first received the TV there was a huge black shadow on the right side of the screen, but I sent it back and have not had the same problem with the replacement. I later discovered that the shadow was due to improper storage of the television whilst in warehouse.
Picture Clarity: True, the Samsung does have a clearer picture (the whites are more vibrant), however, at the time of purchase, the Samsung was $900 more than the Toshiba. If you can get the Samsung LNT4665F for a cheaper price, than I would go with the Samsung. That being said, I think the picture quality of the Toshiba is wonderful for the price. I have a Sony PS3/blu-ray, and by connecting it with a cheap HDMI cable purchased from Amazon, the picture clarity is amazing! As mentioned in other reviews, the 1080p converts to 1080i in some instances, but I'm willing to compromise for the price.
Matte Finish Screen: I am extremely happy with the matte finish screen, because when viewing television during the day there is absolutely NO glare! (Perfect for weekend afternoon sports!) Because of the way my living room is positioned, the windows have to be directly opposite of the television, causing a very bad glare on most TVs. However, with the matte finish, that problem has been solved! Wonderful!
Remote control problems: The remote control is too big! However, I solved this problem by programming the TV into my satellite remote, so I use the Toshiba remote very rarely now. Unfortunately, I still have to use the Toshiba remote to switch in between inputs, and I've noticed that sometimes the arrow buttons don't work - very annoying! However, I think I may have gotten a defective remote, because I haven't seen any other reviews that complain about this problem.
OVERALL: Overall, I am very happy with this television. It was a big purchase for me, and I'm glad I made the right choice!

Flaw after one month of purchase
I bought 47HL167 for a month. I just found a red line on the right side of the screen this morning. No matter what chennal or input I tried, the line had always been there. One hour ago, the line is gone. What should I do with the TV? Will the line came back?

Horrible Quality
Main board went out after 13 months. No warranty. $700 for part alone to fix, $1000 to repair with labor. Basically the TV is now a big paper weight. Horrible quality TV if components can't last more than 13 months. Called Toshiba, no help at all - "out of warranty". Do not purchase Toshiba products

Right Half of Screen Dark
I've just got this set, and enjoyed it for 3 days, when suddenly right half of the screen went dark. I was using HDMI input when this problem arose, then I tried several different input, without making any difference. I saw another review that has exact same problem I experienced. Plan to return this set to get a refund, and buy a different brand. All and all it makes a good excuse to return this item since I've just discovered that it doesn't support wide screen resolution for PC input. Only support 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768.. very dissapointing. Wasted my time and effort to mount this set on the wall.

Limited Quality Viewing Angle
I purchased this after my 42" Plasma broke. I decided to get an LCD as I live at an altitude of 6200 ft and have been told that Plasmas are not recommended for such high altitudes.
After having a Plasma, the image quality of this LCD comes nowhere close to as being as good. The colors appear more muted. Also, as others here have commented, the colors are further faded as you move anywhere greater than 30 degrees from center. It is a significant fade, not something to discount in your purchasing decision.
As I bought this from Costco, I'm returning under their return policy.

Question : HI I need help with a TV...Toshiba 26"LCD?
I just bought a 26" Toshiba LCD TV from circuity city. I turn the TV programmed it but it not picking up any channels whats so ever. I thought it was suppose to pick up over the air digital or even analog channels. When it searches for the channels comes back with none found. I am not using Cable or Antennae. I was under impression it would pick up with the built in Tuner...Thanks
Answer:
You still need an antenna to pick up over the air channels. Don't be fooled into buying "HD" antenna's you can use rabbit ears just fine.

Question : Faint Vertical Grey Line on Toshiba LCD TV?
I have a 42in Toshiba Regaza X3030D which is over 2 years old, over the past year I have been getting a faint grey vertical line running right down the middle of the TV. Does anyone know what could be causing this?Is there a fix for it without having to send for repair.I may have found away of getting it fixed so will keep an I eye that, thanks for the answer, I was hoping it wasn't gonna be that
Answer:
with out a warranty you are not going to want this fixed. it's the lcd panel itself. You should have called toshiba when you first saw it. Good luck at this late date. Give them a call and explain how long this has been happening and they may help in some way. the price of new panel are usually close to the cost of a new set.

If you mean the display resolution, it's made that way, you can't change it. To change it, you would have to get a better TV set.If you mean the resolution of the video, that's determined by the video itself. You can't change it.

Going to buy my mom a 37" or 42" 720p tv. Not so much worried about the best pic quality, but i don't want some tv like vizio or westinghouse that will break in a year.
