Died after 18 months
It was a great TV until the screen failed 18 months after we bought it. Just a big black blob in the middle of the screen, with the picture brightening slightly toward the edges. Why do TVs have such short lifetimes these days?

Never buying Toshiba again
I've had this TV for over a year and I'm not happy with it. Out of the box the picture and sound were both good, just what you would expect for the money. After some time however you discover a particular problem. What I've learned from tech forums since purchasing mine is that many owners of this model are experiencing the same problem. Often when you turn the TV on after it's been off for a while you will get sound but no picture. So you turn it off, count to three, then turn it on and hope you get a picture this time. I usually don't have repeat this routine more than twice. Usually, anyway. Many people on the tech forums for Toshiba reported having to do this many times. Worse yet they have gone through the whole song and dance routine with Toshiba's support and the long and short of it is this: Toshiba is aware of the problem, Toshiba doesn't have a solution for the problem, Toshiba doesn't care. It would help if this TV did what a lot of others do and made a beeping sound when turned on. It takes a few seconds for every flat screen to get the video going. For this Toshiba that would be a particularly convenient feature since you don't know once you turn it on if you are going to get a picture at all. But you at least don't want to second guess yourself as to whether or not you turned the thing on successfully while you wait. Secondly when you feed video to the TV from a PC through the PC-in connector, the upper right hand corner of the screen is frequently distorted - a problem I've since been able to attribute solely to the TV and not any PC. So now I just wonder when I'll switch this on and never get a picture again, while I wish I could go back in time and buy the Sony Bravia. You pay more for Sony but you can seldom go wrong with one.

very good for its price but ....
Some problem over hdmi: you must switch the tv on only after your device has been activated or you may get the fuzzy-snow-screen.
It has *only* two hdmi(s).
Audio is good and so is the picture. 1080i format is available. It's one the best money-worth hd TV on the market.

Customer Service???
TV purchased in May. I was pretty happy with the picture for the relatively low price of the TV. TV has some limitations in picture quality that you would expect when you have a bargain price. Picture went out in October. Six weeks later find out the the part for repair will not be available till March 2009. Not a good sign! Still waiting for Toshiba to resolve the issue.

Never again!
I've bought Toshiba for years and have never had a problem. I have a Toshiba Television in every bedroom, my den and my living room but this is the last Toshiba I'll ever buy. Pro: when it works it has a beautiful picture. Cons: It hardly ever works. I have to turn the set on and off multiple times to get it to come on and at times it just goes blank. The sound goes off for no reason and you have to turn it off and then back on for the sound to return. I looked on the net to see if anyone else had the same problem and found I was far from alone. Why Toshiba hasn't recalled this set is beyond me. Bye Bye Toshiba!

Most bang for your buck
I've had this TV since May 08' and I've been very impressed. I use it for everything: TV, Blu-Ray Movies, Games, extended computer screen, etc... Only thing better would be 120Hz, but I've compared it to those screens and see very little difference. The colors are bright, the picture is sharp, and Toshiba is a great name in home electronics. What's even better is the weight, this TV is only 50 lbs! This is the best TV I've ever owned and I will definitely be looking at Toshiba TV's when upgrading in the future.

Not as good as a Samsung or a Sony, but better than the rest.
This review probably doesn't matter anymore since 42RV530U is not sold any longer.
Pros - Great picture, lots of connections (4 HDMI, 1 component, 1 optical digital audio, 1 VGA, etc), easy to operate, menus are good and easily customizable. I bought it for $1049 ($1199 - 150 discount) and at that time it was a great price. The sound is also very good for a TV speaker.
Cons - Ever since I bought this TV (more than a year before) there has been a small white light bleeding from the top right corner of the screen. This is not very visible when you watch programs during the day, but during night, especially where there is a lot of black on the screen or during a dark scene it is very irritating. I never bothered to send it back to Toshiba or to take it back to Circuit City.

The product was everything advertised. Great picture. Perfect fit in our space. Delivery was prompt. Couldn't be happier with it. Excelent value

PLEASE DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT
Please save yourself from buying this TV, I bought one a year ago and I have been trying to fix it about 4 months ago, poor suport from Toshiba and from all the part suppliers that they have, I just dont know what else to do with this piece of junk. If you want to keep your money save try other options like Sony or Samsung, good suport and good products from them.

Awesome picture!
The tv was rated one of the top 42' LCD's on consumer reports and it is definitely living up to that! As for sound we have a surround sound system so we can't say much about the tv sound. If you can get this tv for under 1K I say go for it! Very easy to set up and all you need is a digital receiver to get the channels which is only $1 more a month than the regular receiver.

Customer Review :
Toshiba 46XV540U is great!!
I purchased the Toshiba 46XV540U at my favorite volume wherehouse store for $1199 one week ago. I originally planned on buying a Panasonic 42" 1080p Plasma, but after discussing Plasma panels with some video engineers at work, I was NOT convinced that it would be free from image retention (burn-in), especially since I watch a lot of 4:3 programming and I didn't want to lay awake at night worrying about having left-right bars burned into the screen. Then I set my mind on either a Sony W4100 or Z4100, but my local wherehouse only had a 40" Sony. The 46" cost too much. I settled on a Sony because I own a Sony 55" SXRD, which I find stunning, and as good as any Plasma or LCD, and it's 120Hz and 1080p/24 display. Then I saw the Toshiba, which stated that it had similar specs as my SXRD. After obsessing and doing extensive research, I decided to buy the Toshiba. I was hesitant since I really liked what I saw on the Sony LCDs. Out of the box, the Toshiba looked good, but the levels needed to be toned down. I initially used a THX DVD (any DVD that is THX certified, like Toy Story, Monsters, Inc), and the disc has a THX setup menu that will help you adjust any TV to look pretty darn good. Later I used the Video Essentials DVD for further adjusting. After setting the color, tint, brightness and contrast, I couldn't be happier. One of my biggest necessities of any HDTV is that it displays SD (standard def) channels well, and I'm happy to say that this Toshiba does a great job. HD on my Charter cable looks stunning in 1080i. Blu-Ray is jaw-dropping. I also watch a lot of sports and the 120Hz option looks great, and from what I've read in test reports, the Toshiba handles this better than Sony, and I condider the Sony better than Samsung for this. Anyways, the Toshiba colors are excellent, it gives deep blacks, I don't see any pixel blurring or lag and fast motion on sports looks rock-solid. AND, this 46" Toshiba cost about $500 less than a similar-sized Sony. The speakers in the Toshiba give satisfactory audio, especially for my bedroom, where I have this set. The image looks pretty good even at extreme angles. The screen is matte-finish, which is essential in my opinion to control reflections. The bezel of the Toshiba is gloss black. I would have preferred a satin-black bezel, but no problem. The Toshiba remote is well laid out. I recently owned a Toshiba 50" CRT rear projection set and I loved the remote on that set because of two things: 1) Mute does a half-mute first, then a full mute with a second press. Half-mute allows you to turn down the TV if answering a phone but you can still hear the sound. 2) The Channel Return will actually return you to a previous Input. So, if you are watching a DVD then switch to a cable channel to check out a football score, you can immediately return to the DVD by pressing the RTN button without the need of it bringing up the numerical menu or cycling through the Input options to get back to the DVD. This new Toshiba remote keeps these two great functions!! The 46RV540U is a terrific TV!

Great TV!!!
This is one fantastic TV! I have had it for about a month now and have enjoyed every minute. The picture is sharp (really deep blacks) and the 120Hz technology really does make a difference. I was amazed at the lack of pixelation, especially when watching sports and blu-rays. I bought this and a sony bdp 350 from Amazon Warehouse Deals (both open box units) and each has performed beautifully. They shipped free and INCREDIBLY fast. I cannot recommend this product enough.

Worth the price!
I've purchased refurbished items in the past and have always had good luck with them. Though with this item I was a bit worried since it is my most expensive refurbed! Let me say that I wasn't disappointed at all! Item was totally brand new and it had tons of features.
I'm still playing around with the settings but even the defaults look nice!
Audio and video display are crystal clear! Especially watching last Sundays SuperBowl!

Excellent Value
This set is performing well. The white glove delivery set it up and all I had to do was set back and enjoy. Wasn't sure about ordering a television of this size online, but I would have no hesitation about ordering anything of this size again. My sister had bought a 42 inch Toshiba Regza from a store and I bought this 46 inch unit at less cost than her purchase. The set has excellent picture and the sound is better than I expected. The menu is simple to navigate and make any changes you may want to tweak.....I would recommend this set to anyone looking for a good price verses performance.

As good for less, Toshiba has out done itself again!!
2nd Toshiba tv, have never been as happy as I was with this purchase....saved $400 instead of Sony or Samsung and got a 120hz hdtv that rivals the performance of the biggest brands!! I researched tv's for months and you can't go wrong with this one.....

Questions & Answers
Question : i have a Toshiba LCD TV that has a TV guide fetcher . it does not recognize my cable box?
i hooked up the g cable and followed all the on screen instructions but it wont acept my scintifac atlanta box. any sugestions?
Answer:
This is a common problem, the cable box and the cable company enter into an agreement with a provider to supply the TV Guide menu. Even though your TV is capable of getting this guide, without the cable company providing the link to the guide, you can't get it. Samsung TV (many of the new ones) are capable of taking the signal directly from the cable (omitting) the cable box and provide your signal, and maybe the guide if the cable company has it as part of their programming. This may be the case for your Toshiba too. There might be a bonus for you when you skip the cable box. Sometimes the TV will pick up premium channels that you are not subscribed to because the box is what is blocking them.Good luck

Question : Need help choosing a 32"lcd tv, the Toshiba 32AV502R or the VizioVO320E. Which is better in terms of hardware?
I don't want answers based off of "brand image". I've just been trying to figure out which one has more features and offers more performance but they seem pretty neck to neck. I can get the Toshiba for about 30 dollars less than the Vizio.
Answer:
Between the two the Toshiba is a much better tv. Vizio is a cheap brand and made in China, they also have a none responsive customer service center if you have any problems you want answers for. If you can look at the Panasonic or Samsung they are a bit better. Hope this will help you out.

Question : On my Toshiba LCD TV there are certain area's where I can see horizontal lines on my screen.?
I bought a 40" Toshiba LCD about 3 or 4 months ago, I noticed about a week ago that on the left most side of the screen there began to show horizontal lines on the screen. They are equally spaced down almost the top half of the screen each extending to a random point straight to the right. It is most noticeable in the far upper left, which can be seen from far away, while the others appear only when I sit close to play xbox. They were not there before, and as an avid gamer they are becoming a bother, I have the warranty on the thing from Geek Squad but I really would rather know if I can quick fix it myself. I read that it might be interference, it's not, I unplugged everything from the sockets save the TV and the lines remained. I messed with every setting, from backlight to contrast in an effort to dull or erase them to no avail. It bothers me when I cannot fix things myself and I would like to have some idea as to what is wrong when the tech gets here (if i have to call him). I'm thinking that it might be something wrong with the backlight, but I honestly don't know how one of these things works! Help!
Answer:
this is a bad panel. Nothing you can do save calling a technician to replace the panel. You may want to take pictures of the problem and e-mail it to the tech. He will need pictures to get toshiba to authorize a panel replacement. This way the tv may stay at your house while the panel is on order.
