Don't buy it from TigerDirect

The TV is what I expected with a great HD picture. Pretty easy to set up. I use a home theater so can't comment on the sound.

TigerDirect made buying this TV a miserable experience. Did not deliver on time. Would not help locate or resolve delivery problem. Be careful when you buy from a seller other than Amazon. I would never buy anything from TigerDirect.

BETTER THAN SETS COSTING MUCH MORE

I did a lot of research before making this purchase, looking at other Toshiba models as well as other brands and spec wise, this set had all the others beat hands down! This purchase has been a great experience from the purchase price to the free delivery and most importantly the performance of the set. The sound on this set was much better than expected and I should have rated that a five as well, because you can't expect theater sound from such small speakers. Everyone knows that you need to use a surround sound amp to experience theater like sound and still people harp on the sound of these sets (duh). I consider myself very particular when making such purchases and always try to strike a balance between cost vs quality. I believe this set is by far the best of the entry level 120hz/240 clear scan set out there and competes admirably with the full blown 240hz as well as led back lit sets. There have been some interesting somewhat negative reviews on this set, but honestly unless these folks received a lemon, I think they are simply suffering from buyers remorse and most likely would complain if hung with a new rope. Oh and lets not forget the reported lack of deep blacks on this set and other lower priced sets... well I can't speak for the others, but the blacks are just fine on this set so go ahead and spend $1,000 to $1,500 dollars more and see if you can tell the difference. And finally lest we forget the off angle viewing which is said to be poor unless you spend an additional $1,000 dollars... well I have gone from side to side until all I see is the back of the set and there is no loss in quality as long as you can see the screen. And last but not least glare on the shiny screen that Toshiba chose to use on this set. My viewing room has windows on three sides and yes there is some reflection on the screen from the windows at times and guess what?... I draw the drapes when watching a program that is in high definition so I get all the detail and the glossy screen adds contrast, but when watching the news who cares? I hope this helps sort through some of the reviews as some seem to rate the product a five just because it arrived and still others give poor ratings because they are in a bad mood I guess.

very nice lcd

Bought this LCD couple weeks ago, ordered on a saturday had it by the following friday. Great picture quality, pretty good sound. I spent countless hours researching LCD's, went to several local retailers, and finally decided on this Toshiba. I have a Toshiba CRT and reallly liked it, so figured this one would be better and boy is it. I highly recommend this model for everyone. Price wise beats Samsung and Sony out of the park. The finish on this set is real sleek looking really draws you in. Not sure when I'm gonna leave my house now. Toshiba REGZA 47ZV650U buy it you won't regret it.

BUY A POWER FILTER!!!

First, Amazon and One Call have been great and I continue to buy from both.

FYI #1
If you buy ANY HD TV you need to get a good power filter/ surge protector!!! I didn't and found out 3 days after plugging my 47in Toshiba 240 clearscan in that I should have. We turned it off on the 3rd night and it wouldnt turn back on. After doing some research I found that most of the service calls techs make on these tv's are power supply replacements. The three days the tv worked it worked great though. Someone plugged a guitar amp in accross the room earlier that day and i think that it may have had something to do with it. I spoke with 2 techs in the area and both said it would be the power supply and that they are very touchy. They also said a stage one power filter/surge protector (power strip type) would be fine and that the old ones can get weak so buy a new one when you order your tv.

I didnt do a lot of warranty research when I bought the Toshiba so I'm not sure what the other brands are like but it's worth looking at the replacement part shipping times. Toshiba ships ground 3 to 7 day delivery. It's been almost 2 weeks and I have yet to see the tech w/ my new part.

Do your homework.
Keep your old tv (for a while).
Keep ALL boxs and packing for 2 or 3 months if you can.
AND..... BUY A NEW SURGE PROTECTOR!!!

At the moment I have a 98lb $1200 reminder that not doing my homework can still get me in trouble. lol

Happy Hunting :-)

Fantastic.

This is my first HDTV that I have bought, simply put, gorgeous!! The picture on this tv is super crisp. The blacks are incredible, my only complaint which is minor is the sound, the sound is great but there is a bit of vibration when it's set too loud. I have noticed no ghosting at all! which is surprising for a 60hz LCD. Perfect for any type of gaming, Forza 3, MW2, Mass effect 2.

All in all for the price, this baby is great!

TV is ok but image quality not great - traces

I've had this tv for about a month now. Overall, it's an ok tv.

My biggest issue with the image quality. I've fiddled with the preferences a bit but still can't fix the problem. The overall colors are alright, black levels are good. BUT - there is a noticeable and irritating "trace" effect with the color red. Especially if a person has really red lips, as their head moves, there's a trace of red that follows. Same affect with quick body movement. I have over the air tv (which I understand, is part of the problem) - so even programs that are broadcast in HD still have traces. And I still have this problem with DVDs and video games, even when I use higher end connections (like the hdmi).

Is there a certain setting I should have? Or this a problem with the tv? If it is, I am very disappointed in the quality of this tv.

Very Happy

Pros:
-Great picture
-Great viewing angle (practically 180)
-True Wide screen (no more stupid bars!)
-Clear QAM channels work great (nix your set-top box!)
-Lots of input options
-Toshiba Customer service reputation
-Good documentation
-Light weight (30 pounds)
-Decent sound (you will still want good speakers though)
-Very Nice looking
-Good for Internet TV & HTPC use
-Remote glows in the dark
-Allows 1920x1080 computer resolution if you want with HDMI cable
-Screen is virtually glare-free
-Nice Picture setting presets & customizable too.
-Nice buttons on remote for PC use ("PIC Size" button is key for 16:9!)
-Can hook multiple PC's to it and flip monitor inputs instantly (no kvm switch needed! 5 PC's could be connected.)
-Same computer can be input multiple times for different desktops (haven't tried this yet though.)

Cons:
-Doesn't automatically turn off with PC (keep remote near by)
-No difference in 720p & 1080p (see below)
-PC Text looks better in 1360x768 (768p) than in 1920x1080 (1080p)
-Too big for some low quality Internet Video
-Shows finger prints
-Connecting PC with S-video was almost unusable. Looks terrible.
-Half inch border all the way around in default 1080p or 765p mode. Use 768p with a PC if you can.
-Remote buttons are a little stiff and small. Hard to navigate if you have long nails.
-Only 1 custom preset available for picture settings.
-No DVI connection

Generally I think this is a fantastic TV and monitor. I use it as my primary HTPC monitor with Windows 7 media center and a simple indoor TV antennae. I really enjoyed recording the Olympics in HD and playing back stop-motion ice skating. My roommate has the same TV and is using Comcast clear QAM with no set-top box and no computer. He gets all the digital tv channels.

I surf the Internet and watch a lot of Internet TV and it works great for this too. (Hint: turn down the backlight level for better text reading with less eye strain. Use the "Sports" mode for Internet TV which tends to be very dark.)

All the various inputs allow many advantages over a regular monitor (see pros above.) I can read text clearly from up to 15 feet away. (Great for lounging in bed or on the couch.) The only disadvantage of using the HDTV this way is the limited variety of resolutions.

I saw no difference in quality with HDMI or VGA cable as some other people said. I am not sure what the story is with the S-video PC input. It looked really terrible when I hooked up my laptop. However it looks great with a VGA cable. I will report back if other devices such as DVD players have this problem.

Watching Internet video is good but sometimes not great on a 32 inch. You really wouldn't want a screen any bigger than this because Websites save space by converting the videos to very low quality. I have opened some Youtube videos that I actually could not see. My 14" laptop handled them better.

As you can see from the list above my Cons are no biggy: I find I need to switch the picture modes a lot when going from Recorded TV to text reading to Internet TV, so I wish there were more customized presets allowed in order to tweak them.

The only big thing I regret is I could have saved $100 by getting a 720p Samsung. Some reviews said I might need 1080p if I were using this TV as a monitor. It actually looks worse in 1920x1080 and the the text is harder to read (even zoomed.) In TV mode you will not see a difference with 1080p unless you use a Blue Ray DVD player and sit 2 or 3 feet away on a 32" screen. However I am still very happy with this and feel I got a top of the line product for a steal.

I hope I've provided some good information that is hard to find for people looking for large monitors.

*Note: to get Clear QAM channels in Windows Media Center without a cable card or set-top box you need a TV card known to receive them. For example: Avertv MTVHDDUWB HD Duet (White Box) & Here: Hauppauge 1229 WinTV-HVR-2250 White Box for System Builders Dual Hybrid PCI-E TV Tuner Board

Great value for the price!

I purchased this for secondary television in a "sitting room/retreat" we couldn't be happier, it was exactly the right choice. I made the decision based on a higher end Toshiba model that we have as our main Television, we are happy with that one so this was an easy choice. It has good picture quality, sound is good, it is very stylish, much more so than other lower priced televisions that I considered. We have used this as a monitor for a dvd player and also connected it to a laptop. I highly recommend, this especially for a secondary television, I would purchase another one with no hesitation.

Great TV!!!

I've had this for about two months now and I bought this together with Onkyo ht-s7200, briteview cinematube, and a sauder wall mount furniture. I also bought an inexpensive cheetah wallmount which I used to mount this to the sauder furniture. At first, I felt the TV was too big, I got a bit nauseous staring at it but I found out that it was just too bright. So after a couple of adjustments, it was easy to look at.

The TV is not really 240hz, the software only projects a 240hz but still the picture clarity is very good. Rated high in consumer reviews so I am glad I bought this one. The only thing I wish it had is an automatic picture adjustment to that if scene is in 4:3 it would automatically adjust to 16:9. There are a lot of features which I don't really use that much. Viewing angle is ok although it reflects some image from my window.

It's a perfect blend to my new Onkyo home theater. I enjoy watching movies again.

Toshiba REGZA 55ZV65OU is a very good 55 inch LCD 1080P HDTV.It has clearscan 240. My wife told me to buy it, because my old Toshiba 44 inch HDTV was so bulky. This will be wall-mounted. The pictures are great, sound is good, and it's easy to set up. The sharpness is good, even at an angle. My dogs brains' can process the pictures at 1080P. The first week, they would bark at the intruders on the screen and look behind the set to see what was going on. Sometimes they sit on the couch with me to watch TV. I would buy it again. It came quickly, undamaged, with a minimum of fuss from Amazon. No taxes or shipping fees made it an even better deal.

We are pleased with our choice.

This upgrade was well worth the investment of approximately $350. The picture quality with the HD cable channels is excellent. There are TV's out there now with a more fine resolution; however, what we see on the screen certainly works for us. The sound is also very good. The only cons I have are the length of time needed to go from HD to non-HD and vice versa when changing channels. The remote is not that difficult to use, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it easy. This TV is a great value at this price and especially recommend it to first time flat screen LCD HDTV buyers like my wife and me.

It's a good value and a very nice tv

I bought 1 of these for my bedroom after having a big (46") Toshiba in the living room for several months and was quite happy with this one as I was with the bigger set. After using it for a few months I bought another one for our RV and we have been more than pleased with all our Toshibas. We also have a 55" Samsung which other than being bigger is basically the same basic product and good quality. My biggest "like" for these Toshibas is their good selection of input options, we can connect a wide variety of gadgets to them and switch between them very easily. So far we have had no issues of problems or any complaints whatsoever. (Got all 3 from Amazon with whom we are also very pleased)

Great price and has everything you need!

I'm not a big spender and so I was very happy to see that the Toshiba 26AV502R 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV was being sold for under $250. I bought it refurbished and it seems to be in perfect working order (no dead pixels) and I couldn't ask for any more quality for the price. The TV has enough inputs (2 HDMI, 2 components, PC, s-video, analog) and works well with my setup. The volume isn't a problem, but I prefer it hooked up to my stereo. The picture does look like it leans slightly towards the red spectrum, but for the price, you can't beat it. This is a small detail and colors can be adjusted through the menu. I have a Xbox hooked up through HDMI (at one point, through components) and the picture comes in great with no lag at all. The PC input is great and I was finally able to project to my TV even though my graphics card doesn't not have a TV out feature. Since this is a monitor, it was able to project up to the 720p quality of my computer. Hulu never looked better. Overall, I would definitely recommend it to the bargain HDTV buyer. If you have more cash, of course, spend it on a Samsung or a Sony.

Excellent picture and okay sound.

This is a great TV.The set has 3 HDMI inputs which is nice though many in this price range seem to have 4. It is the ease in set-up. You literally plug it in, turn it on, answer a few easy questions, and you're done.
The set also features advances picture controls many of which I have not had time adjust but should provide enough control to satisfy any one who considers themselves a video god. Also this TV features basic audio controls (treble bass & balance) as well as features like stable sound, voice enhancing, and bass boost so the control over audio is pleasing.

In short, if you are on a budget but you really want a good lcd tv at least 40 inches then this is a fantastic buy.

Good price, but you might want to look elsewhere

I bought this TV after much research of models in the under $1000 range. This TV has a good price and, when it works correctly, is a nice TV. However, mine has some problem with its sound, where the sound starts echoing after a little while of watching. I can easily solve the problem by turning the TV off and on, but it's still unacceptable for a brand-new TV. I haven't called Toshiba's tech support yet to see about a solution.

An all around contender, a steal for the price!

I was looking for a replacement for a 32 inch Toshiba LCD which has served me well over the years. Deterred by mixed reviews I was looking at everything but Toshiba. I purchased a 37" Vizio XVT series which is an excellent all around television...except for very muddy black levels. It just wouldn't make it as my primary display. I came back to Toshiba and could not avoid the value. A 40 inch LCD with 120 hz processing for less than $700.00...how could I not at least give it a try? I will say that out of the box I thought the picture was just o.k. It took me quite a bit of tweaking to get a satisfactory picture but now I would put the set up against anything else out there. Here is my detailed review:

Design: Nothing fancy here. Glossy black frame with the highly touted deep lagoon design along the bottom. It adds a nice touch but still a very basic nice looking lcd tv. The base does not swivel but damn is it a sturdy platform for this tv. You can also choose to turn off the lit Toshiba logo on the bottom of the screen.

Blacks/Whites: WOW! This is the strong point for this tv. The black level is easily equal to anything else out there and better than most. Letterbox frames are as dark as the bezel! Whites are equally bright and impressive. This being considered it was a nightmare to get the tv to produce satisfactory shadow detail. Finally, I adjusted the static gamma to level 10, and along with my other adjustments have found great detail.

Color: Another setting that I had to mess around with quite a bit. Now I have reds that pop without becoming orange as the Samsungs tend to do and I have an all around natural color palette.

Motion: I have found no problems with motion on this set. Actually, I would rate the smooth motion feature far ahead of the competition. Unlike other lcd's there is no soap opera effect, it is very subtle. Watching blu-ray discs you really get a true film like presentation.

Viewing effects: I would say that the off angle performance of this tv is very good. The matte screen deflects all but direct light. I have read poor reviews for viewing angle but I have to disagree.

Sound: When I first turned this tv on I was horrified. I had read that the sound was terrible but didn't expect it to be this bad. Thankfully after turning off the extend feature, which is virtual surround, the echo was gone. The sound quality is fine! It is not like listening to a hi-fi system but it is clear and fine for normal viewing.

Remote: I have always liked this remote and the Toshiba menu system has gotten even better over the years.

Conclusion: With a little tweaking this is a very good television at an incredibly low price. In addition to sterling high definition performance, standard definition looks better than on most of the competition. If your budget is tight you can have a truly high end television with the Toshiba 40xv645u. I highly recommend this set.

Manufacturer Defect, Beware!

My husband and I bought this television at at retail store and not at Amazon. Since we have had the tv hooked up there has been a reoccurring problem: the sound of whatever is on will suddenly sound as though it is underwater! I instantly called up Toshiba and they told me that they are aware of the problem but have not found a solution as of yet. They advised me to buy a deep color hdmi cord and make sure that the deep color is turned on in the settings. I had done all of this and nothing has changed. In order to make the sound go back to normal I must turn the tv off and then on again. I have continued to call them every time that this issue happens and they tell me that they are logging my complaints. They said they are not going to come to my house to check this out because they say that they can not do anything for me. I say that this is a manufacturer recall and they should not continue to sell an item that they know is a problem. Just thought that I would warn anyone interested.

I bought it new three weeks ago. For the first few weeks I had Analogue and Digital channels working fine then the picture went on the digital channels leaving only sound (Not blue screen but Black). I've retuned it, I've gone back to factory settings and still nothing. Any ideas?

Question : What cable do I use to connect my laptop to LCD TV?
I have a new Toshiba LCD tv and I'd like to connect it to my laptop and/or netbook.I have an IBM T61 Laptop and Acer Aspire One netbook.Anyone know if I can use the same cable for both or would I need an adapter for the laptop? Does the netbook even support a connection to the tv?Thanks!

Answer:
You have to check and see what your laptop provides for video and audio output. The best cable to use is the HDMI cable if your laptop has one.

Question : how do you change resoloution on a toshiba 37av502u lcd tv?
don't have a manual so need step by step Thanks in advance! It says 480i at the top of the screen i know it has to at least go up to 720i

Answer:
If you mean the display resolution, it's made that way, you can't change it. To change it, you would have to get a better TV set.If you mean the resolution of the video, that's determined by the video itself. You can't change it.

Question : What are the best settings for my new Toshiba LCD TV?
I just bought my Toshiba 32AV502U and tried to play my Xbox 360 on it. My only problem is the that there is a bit of a "delay" (lag) between my button presses. I have turned on "Game Mode" or whatever it is, but there still is that little bit of lag that is really noticeable. Any ideas on what I could do to fix it? Should I just go return this TV and get a different kind? Thanks in advance.

Answer:
Hmm....Delays occur due to excessive VIDEO PROCESSING or Upconversion/Downconversions....I would start with making sure the XBox's video output is set to the TV's NATIVE RESOLUTION....If the TV has a Native resolution of 720 (the display panel's actual resolution) then you want the Xbox to output a 720 signal...Then if you have the ability to use HDMI, use it....Now....you're not ONLINE gaming are you? If so, the XBox is just way too busy making an HD picture AND accessing the Online game at the same time...If so, you may be forced to reduce the Video ouput resolution on your XBox even further because it's spending too much time building a picture for your TV set....And that would suck....after all you bought the TV and the XBox for HD Gaming !TVs really do not cause game lag as much as the Xbox does...they can cause MINOR lag if you are outputting a 1080 signal to a 720 TV...the TV would then have to DOWNSCALE the video to fit the TV screen, and that takes a little time...

Question : How do I reset my Toshiba LCD TV, the model is 19w330db?
When I turn the TV on there is just a blank blue screen. The owners manual says to select "menu" and then scroll down until you see the option to "reset" but when I press menu I cannot find anything that says about resetting. It seems to me that the menu I can view is not the menu you should be able to choose from if the TV was working properly. The owners manual also says about a menu only appearing when you first switch on the TV, this is the menu I can't seem to get.

Answer:
This Blank Blue screen is caused by LACK OF SIGNAL to the INPUT you have selected.....When you have it set to tuner, IF you are on Cable and are above channel 13....you have incorrectly accessed the Air/Uhf tuning and you need to set it to CABLEAnd there's ususally TWO ANTENNA CONNECTORS....One for AIR reception and one for CABLE reception...And the units with ONE connector...they have an Autoprogram mode with the choice of AIR or CABLE....Wrong input or Wrong Type of Tuner reception and the BLUE SCREEN comes on when there is no signal....SO.....you should check your antenna wire first and put it in the CABLE connector if you have 2 Antenna jacks (IF YOU HAVE CABLE or Satellite)Then pull out your instruction manual and read about how to set up your TV set....Sure, it may take an hour to read it, while walking thru the setup, but it's CHEAPER than getting a TV tech out to your home to do the setup....What is it now, $55 for in-home setup or $85 ??But that's your next choice....You don't need to RESET your TV, that reset just recenters your Video settings, like color contrast brightness....That's NOT your problem...Your problem is NO Signal to process, because you're off channel, off cable/air or your using a video input that has the device not connected or the device is turned off and not providing a video signal.....

Question : I have a toshiba lcd tv. My pc is hooked to it. How do I get sound? Do I need a cable?
PC problems. Need to know how to get sound on lcd tv from pc.

Answer:
You will definately have to get a cable to run from your sound output on the pc to the audio input of your tv. Read you TV's manual to see what kind of audio inputs you have and then go get a cable that matches both the pc and TV. Good luck.Hope this helps,Shawn

Question : On my Toshiba LCD TV there are certain area's where I can see horizontal lines on my screen.?
I bought a 40" Toshiba LCD about 3 or 4 months ago, I noticed about a week ago that on the left most side of the screen there began to show horizontal lines on the screen. They are equally spaced down almost the top half of the screen each extending to a random point straight to the right. It is most noticeable in the far upper left, which can be seen from far away, while the others appear only when I sit close to play xbox. They were not there before, and as an avid gamer they are becoming a bother, I have the warranty on the thing from Geek Squad but I really would rather know if I can quick fix it myself. I read that it might be interference, it's not, I unplugged everything from the sockets save the TV and the lines remained. I messed with every setting, from backlight to contrast in an effort to dull or erase them to no avail. It bothers me when I cannot fix things myself and I would like to have some idea as to what is wrong when the tech gets here (if i have to call him). I'm thinking that it might be something wrong with the backlight, but I honestly don't know how one of these things works! Help!

Answer:
this is a bad panel. Nothing you can do save calling a technician to replace the panel. You may want to take pictures of the problem and e-mail it to the tech. He will need pictures to get toshiba to authorize a panel replacement. This way the tv may stay at your house while the panel is on order.
