Beware of this TV
We ordered this TV in July 2008. The first unit we received had defective sound quality - sounded like bad speaker wiring. We thought we were in luck when we could ship it back for free and get another one. After considerable delay due to back-orders, we received it in late AugustToshiba REGZA 37RV530U 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV 2008. The TV was in a room where it was used only a few hours in the evenings. Although the picture quality was beautiful while it lasted, in December 2009 it disappeared completely. With only the sound working, of course Toshiba won't offer any warranties because the problem was outside of the one year purchase date. I think it is criminal that companies can sell a super expensive product that should last a decade, without any repercussions if it lasts only one year and one day. Build the price of the warranty into the product and then we will buy it. Until then, no more toshiba for us.

Great Bargain!
I purchased this item several months ago and it has performed up to expectations with not one problem. This unit compared to the other manufacturers of this type of product is priced affordably and is not difficult to setup. I saved a minimum of 350.00 or more and the difference in quality is not noticeable. For the money, who cares!!

Be afraid, be very afraid
I still have all but one of the TV's purchased in my lifetime with only one repair bill amongst them. Until I purchased the Toshiba 37-RV530U that is. There is a one year warranty. Toshiba will stretch that an additional 3 months under certain circumstances. So my problems began in month 16: replaced the inverter box...over a $300 repair. Now in month 20: replacing the power supply box...over a $350 repair! I am not optimistic of the lifespan of this TV as I have already paid for it half again in repairs.
I have experienced the pixel loss problem mentioned in an earlier post but I choose to live with it. Very disappointed in Toshiba quality and warranty.

Failed after 15 months
Set was 15 months old (just 3 months out of warranty). Picture went out. Failure trouble report stated it was a inverter that went bad. However Toshiba won't sell the inverter without the panel assembly which cost...$1200 (I paid $1000 for the set 15 months ago). Toshiba's position is this is an old set (that was their exact comment) out of warranty and no consideration will be given...so much for a quality product. If you buy this set make sure you have a extended warranty or you will be very, very sorry. Last Toshiba product I will buy...

BE AFRAID of POOR Toshiba Quality
Like many of those who have rated this product I am really disappointed. We bought this TV for our father, a birthday present, at a cost over $1000. Less than 2 years in, the picture went black and the only answer we get is that the TV is out of warranty. Thank you for your $1000, now take a hike. It is clear that Toshiba knows they have a problem with this model, but I guess they, like Toyota, do the math and screw the customer. BE AFRAID

Cinema Series Regza 1080p Full HD LCD
Customer Review :
Outstanding
While this is my first HDTV I did do a lot of shopping around and checked out a bunch of tv's before I set my heart on this one. The 42xv545u is a 1080p 120hz tv that is very affordable! The color is amazing and so far I've had no problems with it besides a dinky hdmi cable. SD channels are so so and not great quality and the upscaling technology basically sharpens the image but it can only do so much. Any HD content looks breathtaking and no lag present. I am currently using a PS3 and comcast for my HD needs. Even with comcasts compression on HD channels the picture still looks pretty good. I recently watched Resident Evil Degeneration on Blu-Ray and it was crystal clear! The only gripes I would have to throw out there would be that there is no picture-in-picture on this set, and even though the tv remembers your video settings for each input; it does not save "game mode" for any input. So every day when I turn on my ps3 I have to go to the menu and select game made. It doesn't sound like much but when you do it everyday it kind of gets annoying. So all in all I am VERY happy with this purchase and I recommend anyone that's on the fence about this set to definitely buy it!
UPDATE: It is now September 11th about 7 months owned now and it still works exactly like the day I first received it. price dropped by 200 dollars from when I bought this tv so I would still recommend this tv highly!

Great TV
This is my first HDTV purchase. I've had it for about 3 weeks and so far it has been great. It's a pretty sleek looking TV and the picture quality is awesome and the sound is good too. The only downside I've noticed is that the pre-set picture settings are pretty bad. They're very dull and not vibrant at all. But you can create your own settings to your liking and once I did that the picture became really great...full of color and really great HD picture.
Some people have complained of seeing too much green at times...I do notice it at times but it's pretty subtle. I don't think the average user will care. And even if you do care about that it looks like you can add / subtract green levels as well as blue, red, etc. Some others have complained that the remote is too large and bulky. I think that's up to interpretation...in my opinion it's a normal sized remote.
Bottom line is this is a great TV. It's a really good value for the feature set. I bought it from Costco for $[...]. They give you a 2 year warranty. But then if you buy it with your AMEX card, AMEX gives you a 3rd year on your warranty. You can't beat it.

We really are pleased with our new tv. The service was great, and we, as "seniors", are enjoying the first video games of our lives.

Excellent LCD TV!!
Bought this TV new in May 2008. Not a single problem yet. Excellent, clear picture! Great sound! Highly recommend this LCD TV. If we ever get a second TV will definately choose a Toshiba Regza!

WOW! A treat for the eyes!
This unit is my 4th HD TV, and is the "best of show". I have another Toshiba Regza upstairs, but the Cinema series screen on this unit is great. Combine that with 120hz and Toshiba's SRT technology and you get a stunning picture. I plugged in the Blu-ray player for the ultimate WOW! If you want a TOP NOTCH TV for a reasonable price, here it is.

Won't be Disappointed
I have been doing my research on HDTV's for about a year and a half until finally coming across this TV. I have a 32" Toshiba Flat screen tube TV that I have had for about 4 years and I still love it for what it is used for. I have the 46XF550U hooked up to a Denon AVR 1908 and a Sony Blu-Ray player w/ Polk Audio 5.1 surround. I put in Dark Knight on Blu Ray and any of my worries about this TV melted away, the picture is absolutely amazing, colors are bright, blacks are true. For the price you won't find a better TV (trust me I have looked). Not only in the picture quality but the sound with out the surround is actually pretty good. Also another high point that turned me on to Toshiba 4 years ago is how easy the set up and functionality of the remote control is, that still holds true with this TV. The big box electronics stores in my area don't even carry this model and if they did I highly doubt they could do this good on the price. It's awesome you will NOT be disappointed!

B-E-A-Utiful
Pros: 1080p/24hz 120Hz Great Picture Narrow Bezel Swivel Base Great Blacks Great Colors A lot of Picture Adjustments
Cons: Brightness in corners when there is no image on screen
Summary: This is a great TV. Got it at Costco for 1299. So, I think that is the best deal. Was going to choose between W4100 and XF550U, and I am very glad that I went with the XF. My brother in law has the W4100 and I was a little disappointed with the picture, and more so with the picture adjustments. I did like the menu on the W4100 over the XF. But, aside from that the TV is great.
I have the Onkyo SR606 and the controls from either or control each other through the CEC capability. Very nice feature. This TV has all the bells and whistles.
The SD picture quality was better then I expected. The HD picture was absolutely amazing. The 120Hz does seem to jutter a little more then I expected, but most TVs that have that capability still to work on it.
The color is spot on and the blacks are surprisingly good for an LCD. Not as good as a plasma, but very good.
The swivel base is very very cool. It allows me to move the TV away from a window that gives me a lot of glare, and allows me to move it to get the best angle when I am on my other couch. Very very cool.

AMAZING !!!
I shopped and shopped . Bought 2 TV"S at Costco and took them both back because I wasn't satisfied with the picture quality. I have had my 46"XF550U Toshiba now for nearly a year and I still marvel at the picture quality of this set every time I turn it on, not to mention it's beautiful thin bezel design. This LCD 's blacks are as close as it will ever get to plasma blacks. Truly incredible. Buy this set, it will not disappoint .

OMG (Oh My Gosh) What a TV!
Ok, I am not a pro by any means. I am just your average person when it comes to electronics but I LOVE this TV! I am still amazed and can't get over the quality of the picture. I do my research ahead of time and frankly I agree with all the people who rate it tops. For those who don't like this tv, I have to ask WHY? The colors are great, picture is great and the small bezel allowed me to put it in a space the other 46" lcd tv's would not fit. Out of the box set up was easy. I went through the menu and settings no problem. I did have a question that I couldn't find the answer for in the manual so I called the 800 number. The phone didn't even ring on my end and I had a real live human being on the other end. How often does that happen? He was very helpful and nice. I bought it from amazon.com since they were an authorized etailer recommended by Toshiba and the price was better than my local store could even get it for. I had it within 8 days of ordering. This was my first major purchase on-line and I can say it went very smooth. Want to invest in a winner? I did!

This is a great TV!
I purchased the Toshiba 46XF550U from Amazon in late November. The TV arrived in pristine condition in the expected delivery window. For the first week I was waiting for HD to be installed and was forced to watch SD programming. I think that the Toshiba does a very good job handling SD signals and looked great via Direct TV. The picture was very clear and after initial setup looked much, much better than I expected. Even after stretching the screen out using one of the Theater modes. I had a friend come by with his Xbox360(yeah, I don't have one) and the games were AMAZING! He said numerous times how he was able to see details that he had not seen before. The game intros were incredible as well. Using an Upconverting DVD player I was able to view the TV display in 1080p. Absolutely blows you away! Definitely get the most of standard DVDs. Once the HD upgrade was complete I realized TV viewing BLISS! The picture is very good right out of the box with very little picture adjustment required. Like most all new TVs there a a few basic tweaks to make, but after that, AHHHHHHHH!!! Watching all of the playoff football this year has been much more enjoyable because of the brilliant picture quality of my new Toshiba LCD HDTV. I can't wait for the Super Bowl!!!!!

Questions & Answers
Question : Why does my Toshiba 42" LCD TV keep switching off when repair-shop says its just fine?
I have recently moved into a new flat and my 42" Toshiba LCD, which was working fine in my old flat, keeps switching off after 2-3 seconds. I sent it to a Toshiba recognised repair shop and they told me the TV worked fine in their shop. Can this have something to do with the power supply of my flat (other appliances works fine), or is the repair guys simply lying to me?
Answer:
Does the TV have a 'sleep timer' on it? That may need adjusting, but to be honest it doesn't sound like it.It may also draw so much current off your mains supply that could also cause it to switch off because it doesn't get enough.Have you actually seen the TV working in their repair shop or are you taking their word for it that it works? Could you ask a neighbour if they would be willing to plug an extension lead into one of their sockets to try it out? Just explain you think your electricity supply may be faulty and ask (nicely) if you could borrow their one for a few minutes. If it still plays up, I would give your local electricity supply company a ring and see if they can suggest anything that may be at fault.Perhaps get your sockets tested.Do you plug the TV into the same socket each time? It could be the socket itself is faulty, so try it with something else like a table lamp.

Question : Need help choosing a 32"lcd tv, the Toshiba 32AV502R or the VizioVO320E. Which is better in terms of hardware?
I don't want answers based off of "brand image". I've just been trying to figure out which one has more features and offers more performance but they seem pretty neck to neck. I can get the Toshiba for about 30 dollars less than the Vizio.
Answer:
Between the two the Toshiba is a much better tv. Vizio is a cheap brand and made in China, they also have a none responsive customer service center if you have any problems you want answers for. If you can look at the Panasonic or Samsung they are a bit better. Hope this will help you out.

Question : Samsung vs Toshiba lcd tv HELP PLZ (best ANSWER?
Samsung 40" 1080p LCD HDTV** (LN40B500)_________________VS________________Toshiba 40" 1080p LCD HDTV** (40RV525R)im going to buy a hd tv to day but i dont know what one to get... both tvs are $699.99 and they both look nice... this is what i want the tv for: 1) gaming, 2) movies, 3) watching tvhere is a site to compare the 2 tvs http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/compare-result.aspx?ProductIds=10134111,10121903&returnPath=%257e%2 52fcatalog%252fproductdetails.aspx%253fpath%253d780dd1eeacd1c5b7615a40f6b6be5113en02%2526sku%253d101 34111%2526lang%253denand here is what some one send about the Samsung tv.. "Seems like a good TV but we've had issues with the TV speaker...raising the volume past 30 or so causes a constant buzzing sound, loud enough to disturb you while whatching a show. Also we've had it for 20 days now and the color went on the TV a few days go...no more blue...all we see is everything very red/brown and green. Also noticed that the non-HD channels and any channel where there's writing on it, the wrting is fuzzy...e.g. when you turn on the Guide function. Maybe we got a lemon...will try to exchange it and see what happens."
Answer:
While it is good to read customer reviews, you have to take them with a grain of salt. People who have bad experiences with their products are more likely to make postings. So if 1,000 units are sold any only 2 had issues, you'll hear about those 2. But does that make it necessarily a bad product? It could, but you don't know for sure is really the issue. The Toshiba sounds like the better option in that deal though. It has 1 extra HDMI and 1 extra component. So without any extra devices, you can hookup 5 HD sources directly to the Toshiba TV. You can only hook-up 3 to the Samsung. Or you can hook up 3 HDMI to the Toshiba and then have 2 component left for a high quality SD connection for things like an older DVD player, a Wii, etc. But generally, I like the extra inputs the Toshiba offers. Also, it has both Digital Optical Audio and Stereo Audio outputs, whereas Samsung only has the Digital Optical. Stereo Audio output is the Red/White leads. So that can be handy going to older speakers or amps. Its not as good as Digital Optical, but depending on what kind of gear you own, it could be a valuable output. Or as neither TV has a headphone jack, the Stereo audio output is much easier to turn into one (you just get a Y cable for a few bucks). Digital Audio to headphone requires a much more expensive converter box.Frankly, at that price point, the TV I'd be more interested in comparing the Toshiba to would be the LG 42LH30. My main annoyance with that one is the lack of audio outputs on the TV. But if you don't need that (because you're feeding devices directly into an amp or not using an home theatre system), then it might not be an issue. LG rates well in many consumer reviews. At that point, I might actually go to the store and look at the TVs rather than just go from their specs. See which one your eyes like better (just remember to stand back at a natural viewing distance).

Question : I bought a new toshiba regza LCD TV and it has a low humming that is always present.?
You can really only hear it if the TV is muted or at low volumes. Is a slight humming or buzzing from the speakers normal for LCD's?
Answer:
Hi,Are you sure its really coming off the speakers, not the TV itself? Here's something you can try, turn the internal speakers off by going into your sound menu. Do you still hear the sound? There should be absolute silence from the speakers since the speakers are now cut off from the internal amplifier. If you still hear the sound from the speakers, there's there is something wrong with the internal circuits of the amplifier. So since its not too late for you to replace with another model or perhaps get it exchanged if you like the same tv, then please do so.Oh, did you know you can connect sound without going through your tv to your sound system or stereo if you got audio in on your sound system.I never use the tv's speakers at my place, well its up to you.Good luck!

Question : My new Toshiba LCD TV keeps switching it self on and off?
We got a new Toshiba LCD TV, about a week ago now and it's starting to keep turning itself off and then turning it self on about every hour or so, we ignored it but it's starting to get really annoying when watching a movie or playing on the PS3. We've try'd unplugging it for 4 hours and plugging it back in but still it keeps turning off, it turns off for about 3 seconds and turns back on.Help?
Answer:
Both answers posted before me are correct, but that's only half of it. if the sleep timer isn't the problem then the tv may be suffering a power issue. the TVs internal power switch may be going haywire. If that's the case you should consult the corresponding retailer and have it exchanged. Before you consider taking my advice, I highly advise listening to the 2 previous answer posters before me.
