Great performance and value
I researched and compared all the major brands, both plasma and LCD, in 52- to 55-inch size before making my purchase. Looks very good when off, and great when on! Very good sound from internal speakers, great amazon delivery service, and great value. In "real-world" viewing, I've never noticed any of the few shortcomings that some online and print reviews have mentioned as minor issues.
I'm not a videophile, and there may be units with better specs, but you can't beat this Toshiba's 55SV670U combination of features, performance, and price. Thoroughly satisifed with purchase and highly recommended.

A TV to Love ...
I consider myself a tech savvy. I've been following consumer TV lineups and technology for months. from samsung to vizio, yes I checked them all out! This Toshiba does it the best in its class with solid picture quality and performance. if you are looking for an eye candy go get a samsung, but if you want performance in all aspects then this TV is for you.
I bought this set from amazon and had it for about 2 weeks now. The picture is amazing and the blacks are inky, deepest I've seen around! video processing is outstanding, handles motion really well. This LED TV delivers a great cinema-like experience.
Pros:
-Stylish single glass design -Deepest inky blacks - Kuro like -superior video processing - nicely removes judder and blur without adding video-game look -amazing screen uniformity -packed with pro-settings and tweaking menus, graphs, ambient light sensor and auto brightness feature -Local dimming in its best -no blooming, clouding, ghosting or flashing issues (known issues with LCDs) -details in gray-black tones visible -great value
cons:
-reflective screen (helps to achieve better contrast but could be an issue if you have a lot of windows) -heavy
I'm very happy I returned my samsung LED for this unit. samsung LEDs (6000, 7000 and 8000 series) suffer from screen uniformity issues! Buy this unit and you won't be sorry.

Excellent 55 inch TV
When I was looking to upgrade from my 46 inch Sony Bravia, which I loved by the way, I looked at everything out there. I read reviews on all the 55 inch models and kept coming back to this Toshiba. It is a beauty. Picture quality is amazing. This tv is Huge compared to my old Sony. If you are in the market for a 55 inch LCD/LED, this tv is a great choice. It has more features for less money than any television out there. Bought mine at a local appliance store, which came bundled with a blu ray player and HDMI cables, surge protector, etc. for under 2k. Compared it to plasmas which all seemed too dark to me. I even looked at a 58 inch Samsung plasma on the display which had burn in on the screen. The clerk said it had only been there a month. When the screen went dark you could see the burn in. That completely turned me off to plasma. You cant go wrong with this tv for the money!

Over-all a fantastic experience thus far - 1 month
After sniffing out specs on new HDTVs we went to the store to try to compare screens (mostly between the Sharp Aquos, Sony Bravia, and Samsung - in that order.) In the end we decided this one had the best overall brightness and clarity. (This wasn't so easy to determine though because all of the stores feed crappy (relatively), and varying signals into the TVs so that it is difficult if not impossible to compare them. Why? I don't know.)
After using this TV for a month, I'm still very happy with it. Compare that to my experience with our previous HDTV, a DLP type Samsung. This TV starts fast (relatively) and the sound is good even from the built-in speakers. I'm much, much happier with the screen and general response time. Switching channels, turning on, turning off; these may sound like no-brainers but the Samsung DLP would sometimes take over a minute to start, almost as long shutting off, and even took tens of seconds on occasion to switch channels. Also this TV uses about 50% less power than the DLP and was about as low-power as anything in this size of TV we found (because of the LED backlighting it uses less lighting power.)
The main flaw with the Samsung came when it failed completely (green screen of death) after only a little more than two years of use. The problem appeared to be on the board that controls TV signal decoding. Because that problem is possible with any display tech, I'll just have to wait and see if this TV turns out to be more reliable/long lasting. For now it is an order of magnitude improvement over the Samsung DLP, and appeared to have better image quality than the current competition.
Some drawbacks that keep it from perfect scores: 1) There is a border around the screen several inches wide. Obviously the closer to edge-to-edge screen the better since the rest is just distracting away from the image. 2) (a complete surprise!) there is only one coaxial input on the TV. We have been using analog cable and HD over the antennae (airwave broadcast) for years. With this TV, it took us a while to figure out that we could still do this by buying a coaxial switch. Unfortunately that means that to switch from Antennae to Cable requires flipping the manual switch and then changing a setting from the remote control menu. This is tiresome so we have all but abandoned the cable channels completely (on this TV anyway.)
Non-issues: some complain that this TV is too thick (mostly compared to the Samsung model.) We don't wall mount, so for us this is a complete non-issue as you can't tell how thin it is in the entertainment stand. I suppose others might prefer the svelte look of the Samsung but there is something to be said about people who would buy a TV for the look of the case over the look of the TV image it produces (and the reliability of the product too given my previous experience with Samsung TVs.)

Had for 4 months and is great
I got this in November and it's now February. The picture looks great - I highly recommend the 240Hz with LED backlight version. It looks even better with blue ray. The picture has fuzz when it's not an HDMI connection, but that's the type of wire used for the connection. They used AIG for shipping and they showed up on time and helped me carry it upstairs to my apartment.
I would definitely buy from them again.

This TV is a superb TV!!! The colors POP because the black levels are the best on the market, 240hz refresh rate makes sports look AWESOME!!! Not a better TV out there, especially for the price!!!

Garbled audio
I purchased this TV on Jan 2, 2010. This is a great TV and the picture is awesome. The on screen menu is okay and slightly complicated for those that are not tech savvy and there are many things in the book you really need to read.
This TV has the newest in technology when it comes to picture quality and it could have improved on the sound quality, but most of us having TVs like this hooked up with surround sound systems. The speakers are hidden and there are preset sound outputs you can have to create standard and simulated surround sound from two speakers.
Other than the picture, the TV has an issue with the sound. When you play a DVD disc from a regular DVD player with HDMI capabilites to this TV, the sound garbles and reverberation begins afer an hour of play. Toshiba America says I am and a group of people have this rare problem. They did not offer to fix it and they said they were working on the problem. What does that sound like to you?
So, I purchased the newest Toshiba BDX2000 Blu-ray player and played a blu-ray movie with the sound output from the TV and the sound never garbled throughout the movie or even skipped a beat, Great!
I then played a regular DVD disc on the blu-ray player and after an hour of play, the sound starts garbling from the TV again. Toshiba had instructed me to turn off certain features to prevent this, under the HDMI settings, you are to turn off Deep color, lip sync and instaport. If it did not resolve the issue then use RGB (red, green and Blue) cables instead of the HDMI cable and for the sound, use left/right audio patch cords.
We as consumers or customers should not have to fiddle around with this. We buy these expensive TVs to utilize the newest technology, HDMI.
The cabling is not an issue. The versions of cabling is another gimmic for manufacturers to charge you big money for pretty cables.
I was going to retire the older DVD player, but instead kept it to play DVD disc with the RGB cabling and the sound connected through my stereo so I did not have to keep dealing with the garbled sound. I have over 600 DVD movies. I now have one blu-ray player with no blu-ray discs.
So, you make the choice. Do you want to be apart of the rare group of people with this problem and how will you know if yo are getting a good set or not.

Good TV that might just be great, once the sound bugs are out
I went to our local electronics store to buy a Sony 46"LCD, when I saw the Toshiba, for $1099 I was blown away! An LED backlit LCD TV for that price, I had to have it. I've had it 9 days, and I really do like it in many ways. Amazing picture, esp. on HiDef. But, I have the dreaded "garbled sound" after 2-3 hours. I contacted the store, and they agreed to take it back if I wanted, but I really don't, if I can get it to work correctly. Toshiba suggested replacing the HDMI cable with component video (DVD to TV), and also audio cables, I find that unacceptable. The Tech on their hot line, call 1-800-631-3811, was very helpful. He first suggested ditching my 1.3 HDMI cable & replacing it with a 1.4 cable. I ordered one, will find out in a week, after it arrives. He also suggested going into the setup menu, and under AV, HDMI, shutting off the "Deep Color" option, I did this tonight. Lastly he acknowledged that they had a firmware update they were working on, and it would be sent to me on 2/17, in the form of a USB flash drive that I can plug into the service port on the side & I could update the firmware myself. I will know more in a week or 2, so unless I have further problems in the meantime, I will wait & install the new cable, & then the firmware, & will update my comments then.
I took a chance on it when I bought it, I believe this model just came out in Sept 09', so I will be patient, to a point.

Well-balanced
This TV is something that at first sight doesn't amazes you that much, it pretty much looks like a regular production TV, but after you spend time with it, even though (at first sight) the images don't look that sharp as compared to other TVs, if you pay close attention you find out that the image looks more unabridged than compared to other TVs, it doesn't show you that fancy look other TVs advertise but in deep this TV shows you a much more accurate perception of images. It doesn't show that fancy colorful image that sometimes deceives your eyes, instead it shows you an image as real as it could be.

Nice item, Great appearance!
I like very much this item, I have purchased it as present and was really excited!
So far, I have no complains about it, except the fact that when connecting to a DVD player, for the sound to come out, you have to make sure that the DVD player is off when connecting, otherwise you will get the picture, but not necessarly the sound...
But overall experience, especially now that I know how it works, I'm happy with that!

Better then the compitition
I finally found a flat screen that I could mount under the kitchen cabinets that had both good picture and sound. A salesman pointed out that Toshiba had front mount speakers directed out into the room rather than speakers that were mounted on back or bottom of TV like all the competition. I think the quality of speakers is better as well. Picture quality is great. I am using it in the HD mode. I found an under cabinet mounting system so that the counter is totally clear.
I am a happer camper!

Gave this TV to my husband for his office for Christmas. Amazon offered it for 100 dollard cheaper than other retailers. Did research on this size TV and this got the best reviews. The picture quality is great and so is the sound.

happy with my purchase
i am really happy with my purchase- it is exactly what i was looking for- the picture quality is great, and the HD signal is incredible- I originally bought this tv for my work out room, but i am using it right now in the office and living room in place of my huge projection tv that has terrible picture quality- it is extremely portable- the size is great. i have not found anything to complain about, but i have only used it 2 days. I moved it from the upstairs bedroom to the downstairs den- and it took little effort. The audio is more than sufficient.

As well as Full HD 1080p resolution, the RV series gets the best from HD content by using 100Hz Picture Processing which virtually eliminates motion blur often associated with fast moving sports action with its 24 frames-per-second display - so you're watching exactly what the director intended. A special Game Mode ensures you get high-grade pictures from the latest games consoles.

Toshiba 37RV525R 37" LCD
I am happy with the TV. Got it for the bedroom & is installed on wall using Peerless PA740 articulating wall mount. The picture quality, after some fine tuning is very good. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rank it at a "7" when compared to my 50" Panny plasma that would rate at a "9".
The TV was delivered on time but the outer box had a 4" hole with the popcorn packing visible. Luckily the TV was double boxed & the original inner box was not damaged. I made sure of this before signing off on the delivery confirmation.

Just What I Wanted
The day after Christmas my old Toshiba started to get a little funny. Well, it was time to get another one. I had had it for years too long to remember. I bought another Toshiba for my bedroom the year before because of the quality and service it gave me. Since HD is the "in" to have I bought it and was impressed. So now I go for HD on this model and again I was impressed with the picture. Since it was going into a small room I didn't want to get anything to big. However, maybe just a few inches larger would have been nice I am not complaining. I basically use it for movies and it is like being at the movies but on a much smaller scale. The sound is good for those movies where you don't need lots of sound effects. I have components hooked up for those when needed. It's a good looking set and was easy to set up and get started. The picture is wonderful. Bright, clear and detailed.

Excellent buy for the money. Replaced a Sony Bravia 32" that lasted just 2 years. My wife has a Toshiba 26" LCD we purchased over 2 years ago. Purchased TV thru Amazon and was shipped from Tiger Direct. Excellent service from both. TV is a perfect fit for my bedroom. Picture quality is great.

GREAT overal, FANTASTIC when you consider the price
I bought this TV directly from TigerDirect (not through Amazon), but Amazon influenced my decision and just went for direct buy. Once I turned it on, I noticed it is barely warm, not HOT as I used to with my older AKAI LCD TV. Talk green! Controls are adequate and picture quality is good in terms of default settings. Adjusting it with recommendations from Michael D'innocenzio made it better. I like the color and saturation, where colors are natural (e.g. not "screaming"). I use it as a TV for media-center, so it goes with DVDs and my WD TV Live. It performs 100% of my expectations. Price was great!

Great TV
First of all, and this has nothing to do with the TV's performance, I placed the order on February 8th, the estimated delivery was for the 15th and finally I got the TV the 12th with free standard delivery, the guys placed the TV in my entertainment center and I couldn't be happier. Lest begin with the antiglare. I placed the 52" Toshiba Regza in our living room, next to a 8 feet sliding door and same length semicircular window 2 feet above the door, the most illuminated room in our house during the day, specially the morning when the sun light comes to through the window. I previously had a 42" LG which did a better job with the glare, the Toshiba isn't terrible but is not as good as the LG. Colors are very accurate to real life and the TV comes decently calibrated from factory, but I adjusted it to my personal taste. Sound for me hasn't been an issue, we sit 12 feet from the TV and it sounds fine, though to watch movies or play games I use my Yamaha 6.1 surround sound system to get the best out of them. The remote is in the ugly side but is very user friendly (I don't use it anyways, I use my Harmony Universal remote ). I find black levels good, black to my eyes looks black and still can see the details like lets say the wrinkles in black shirt can be noticed, and the shirt still looks black. While playing with the colors' settings the difference betewn maximum color and minimum is not that much as in my LG which can go from very pale to over-saturated. One thing that scared me was when I connected my Satellite Box, Blu-Ray player and X-Box all via HDMI cables the TV was not recognizing any input signal, I turned it off checked all wires everything was fine turned on it again and it only recognized HDMI 1 did the same thing and recognized HDMI 2 and 3, I searched for that problem online and red that if that happens it might be that the TV needs to be reseted by turning it off. After that it worked flawlessly. Picture quality is excellent even in 720p. When the TV is turned on ( which takes longer than others TVs) and detects a HDMI signal, in the left corner of the screen says what HDMI input is (1, 2 or 3) and the resolution it's getting from that signal in the top middle of the screen, and here comes my question to anyone who has this TV. Are you getting full 1080p out of your blu-ray player? I only get 1080i, the picture looks great don't get me wrong but it says 1080i, it get full 1080p from the X-Box though, so I guess it has to do with the HDMI cable I'm using (got it for $3.00) I just ordered a 1.3b category 2 HDMI cable to see if that;s the problem, I already tried with the one that came with the X-Box and picture is much better with DVD's and with BD disks but still says 1080i. About the 120 refresh rate, I believe it does a decent job, experts say it could do better... I don't see any motion lag whatsoever but I'm not a TV specialist. Another thing I've noticed is it runs very cool even after long periods of time on I get close to it and I don't feel any heat, I was expecting a heater since my LG gets quite hot and it's 10 inches smaller. So far the only negative thing is I'd like it to have more HDMI inputs and I don't really care for the REGZA logo on the top left corner or the illuminated TOSHIBA logo which can be turned off. All in all I think is a very nice TV set my wife and I are very happy with it and happier than didn't spent the extra cash on a LED LCD as I initially wanted, I went to a relative's place on the weekend they have a Samsung LED, it looks nicer than my Toshiba cause is a lot thinner but picture quality isn't any better, and since I was gonna put it inside a wall unit I didn't really care much for the thickness. I'll update as soon as I get the new HDMI cable.

Excellent Television at an excellent price
We moved into a new house and were on a mission to buy 3 televisions. After looking at all the televisions out there in our price range, and looking at all the displays next to each other, this one instantly popped out at us. I know we aren't supposed to judge a tv when it's next to a bunch of others, but I couldn't help looking at all the other ones and how my eyes just kept coming back to this model. The blacks seemed darker, deeper and the colors were more vivid and crisper. I ended up buying three 52" for the house. I'll start of by saying that the picture is beautiful. It has full side inputs and a lot of rear inputs. One thing to mention is if you are hanging it, the rear inputs are almost impossible to reach and since they point straight back and not downward, there may be a problem with some cabling. Toshiba, like any other manufacturer, put their light up logo right in front and under the screen so it's in the way when you are watching tv, however, they were smart enough to allow you to turn it off. The control on the tv isn't great - it feels cheap and doesn't light up, but does glow in the dark. Changing between channels is pretty quick, not like some tv's where you have to wait a couple seconds. Watching Planet Earth on BluRay is excellent, except when there is quick panning, such as when they pan to follow a hawk, you can notice some jitter because the refresh rate isn't as fast. I haven't seen a football game on it yet so I don't know how that looks. The sound is not very good, but then again I am not sure of many tv's that have great sound. I have to really turn up the volume in order to hear it clear. It does have different picture modes such as sports, theater, store, etc. I find store to be the brightest, most vivid and yet retain some really deep blacks, however, this mode is not energy compliant. The tv itself is very sexy. It features a matte screen and it's anti-glare is very good, expecially in our master bedroom where windows are next to and in front of where the tv hangs. The casing is a glossy black which does tend to gets fingerprints when touching it. Overall, I think this tv is well worth the price and you will be very happy with the picture quality. Take it from someone who owns 3 of them!

Like it but....
This is my first LCD tv and hopefully the last one for a while. I still havent hooked it up to my hd dvr yet. It'll happen in a couple of days. I really like all the features and how good the HDTV reception is.
My only disappointment is the standard definition channels. Its kind of scary when you buy a new tv and many of the channels look worse than they did in your 15 year old tv. I hope that it gets better when i connect it to a cable box.
Plus, I am not sure if all LCD's look this bad with standard channels?
Can anyone comment?

As good as advertised
Just got the TV yesterday and think it's great overall. The picture is terrific. Tested it out with the Dark Knight blu ray and it was phenomenal. I know there's a lot of hype about moving to 240hz, but I think 120hz is just fine for my viewing needs. A lot of the negative feedback on the durability and problems of Samsung and Sony LCDs in other reviews led me to Toshiba.
The sound is the weak spot, but I had heard that criticism going into this. It's weak, so to really enjoy blu rays, you'll need to spend some money on audio equipment.
Probably the best value for the price at the 52 inch size category. Fortunate that I was able to get this as a replacement to a 4 year old TV under extended warranty that crapped out.

Good set but sound quality is very poor
I purchased a 32" Toshiba Regza 2 years ago and loved it. We wanted a bigger set for the living room and decided to go with the 52" Regza set again. Someone else has complained about the sound system and so do I. On the 32" set the sound speakers were built in on the front frame of the TV -- the sound pointed out and into the room. On this set the speakers are built under the TV frame -- the sound points down. The sound is also louder behind the TV than in front of the TV. I don't have this hanging on a wall so I don't know if that would make a difference. I have the TV sitting on an entertainment stand and the back is open out to a hallway. When I walk down the hallway the sound is twice as loud as it is in front of the TV set. I'm very, very disappointed that Toshiba set the speakers into the TV in such a way to make the sound quality so bad. I love the 32" and if I had read more I probably would've gone with a Samsung or Sanyo set instead. But, I was happy with the 32" and thought the 52" would be the same.

Questions & Answers
Question : Which is better a Toshiba or a LG LCD Tv?
I'm getting a new TV for Christmas, so far it's a choice between a 32" Toshiba LCD Tv or a 32" LG Tv and I can't decide which. Can anyone tell me which one they think is better?
Answer:
Toshiba, definatly. I work with large screen TVs on a daily basis, Toshiba have a far better image, and far better customer support. LG used to be quality TVs, but these days are becoming more and more like cheap crap. Avoid if possible.

Question : could iget a review of the toshiba lcd tv model 42HL57?
I plan on buying this tv this weekend would like to hear some feedback about it
Answer:
Consumer Reports reviewed a similar set, the 42HL67 set in it's March issue. The top rated set in the 40-42 inch range was the Samsung LN-T4053H, with a grade of 77. The Toshiba was eighth out of sixteen with a grade of 71. The weak points were SD performance and sound quality. They also didn't think much of the remote.

Question : No Digital Picture on Toshiba LCD TV?
I bought it new three weeks ago. For the first few weeks I had Analogue and Digital channels working fine then the picture went on the digital channels leaving only sound (Not blue screen but Black). I've retuned it, I've gone back to factory settings and still nothing. Any ideas?

Question : I have a toshiba lcd tv. My pc is hooked to it. How do I get sound? Do I need a cable?
PC problems. Need to know how to get sound on lcd tv from pc.
Answer:
You will definately have to get a cable to run from your sound output on the pc to the audio input of your tv. Read you TV's manual to see what kind of audio inputs you have and then go get a cable that matches both the pc and TV. Good luck.Hope this helps,Shawn

I looked up the specs on this unit and it looks like this will work almost anywhere. Canada uses the broadcast system that we do(NTSC) and if it'll work here, it'll work there. Your playstation should work just fine
